I have newborn twins and don't have time to flash and try out everything like I used to. I want to flash an ICS ROM and it appears BluKuban and MIJJz ICS GOODNESS are both excellent options.
Knowing they are probably both awesome, all I really want to know is if either one, both, or neither is capable of looking like stock ICS theme (like the screenshot).
Besides that, any additional comparative info between the two (pros/cons) would be nice to know as well. THX.
Congratulations, first and foremost.
The goodness rom can look more like stock than the blu kuban. Both have the rom updater feature in the settings.
Since they updated the goodness a few days ago, a lot of the mods are missing from the updater so give them some time or get the second newest version.
The Blu Kuban is almost completely blue and black. It's too dark for me personally so I moved to the goodness.
But they are both pretty stable.
Of those two options I prefer Goodness. With that being said I'm currently running the vanilla AOSP ICS rom from times infinity and I love it. If you want a plain rom that works well check that out.
Goodness has the most views and downloads for this phone for a reason, go check it out.

Goodness v16 had a "stock theme" that could be flashed over the Goodness default theme and was about as close to stock that you could get while still enjoying the benefits of the custom ROM. As someone mentioned, the large variety of customizations available in v 16 have not yet made it to 17, but I suspect they will soon. In the mean time, the default Goodness theme is not a huge departure from stock. Just use the Updater once its loaded to remove the Extended Toggles and restore the standard ones.

AGREED nd if the mod and such are in the updater you can always use v16 which is (PACKED to the gills) until the server move is finished ...then fi25 will be PACKED sooner than ya think ...personally myself I've ran a few themes from v16 and haven't encountered any problems thus far! Currently playing with it.

I see a lot of ICS themes and they are awesome man. But I do miss the ole AOSP GB look and feel. I have tried my best to make my own but honestly I don't have the time I wish I did to dedicate to it right now. If anyone feels up to it and wants to make one that would work with the latest ROMs I would be ever grateful.
Pretty much what I would like to see is a Vanilla GB style Theme. But anything AOSPish would be awesome. Thanks in advance to anyone that considers this.
Download latest blazer and instal gb launcher or go flash cm7 from the other site everything but GPS works

Appreciate the suggestions. I'm not ready to sacrifice functionality for true AOSP yet on this phone. I have the aosp launcher running on Calks and have modded most of the apks to have the aosp icons. What I'm looking for is like a aosp dialer and true aosp mms.apks and such. Once CM9 is released I will go towards true aosp roms. But not until. I did the whole aosp flashfest on my GS1 and not ready to do that yet. Plus the CM7 build you speak of wiped my SD card twice soso it still has some little bugs.

have you tried the "clean" overlay from sprint ID?
Try this rom out. Looks like its picking up with some.

Yeah I was hoping that ROM would get updated and it did. I was so Happy to see it. Running it right now with a few personal Mods and loving it. Also I have never messed with sprint ID so not sure what that is. I will have to look into it.
so i got this phone today and got it rooted plus got clockworkmod now im ready to try some things can someone please suggest a good rom plus a kernel that would help with battery life, any help is much appreciated
I will also like to know if there is some kind of mod to wake phone by bolume keys
Cant go wrong with Calk's or Blazer ROM. I have run Blazer since 3.7 and have been very impressed.

My two favorites would have to be StrongSteves Odexed Blue and Phantom Hackers Blazer rom. I tried calkulins it was good but for some reason it was kinda laggy on my device. All devices are different though so you may have a completely different experience. In my opinion though the most solid ROM out there right now is StrongSteves Odexed Blue. He just came out with an update today too! Definite win!
I am currently running Calkulin's E4GT 2.8.1 with the Venum Minimal Black & White theme.
The minimal black theme with a pure black wallpaper I made using Paint makes my phone look just the way I like. Simple and sleek.
I have tried other ROMs and they all felt pretty good as far as battery life and smoothness/quickness. (Blazer, Tnz Blend, etc.)
I keep hearing good things about Strongsteve's Odexed Blue, so I'm looking to try it with the Minimal Black theme, although I am not sure they are compatible.
I never heard of a wake-by-volume key mod, but sounds like something I'd want, too
As far as kernels go, I am on the latest version of Rogue's "stock el29" because their non-stock ones (1.4.1 Gunslinger, 1.5.0 Hitman) keep giving me a laggy homescreen. something to do with Calkulin's ROM's battery saver script i think. Apparently the lag goes away if you install SetCPU.
i was reading some of the features in those 2 roms and didnt see one im particularly interested on and that is wake the phone by volume keys you guys know if thats something included or is there a different mod i need to flash to get that

I have that on StrongSteves Odexed Blue but I am running a custom lock screen app so I dont know if it is that or the rom that does it. Keep in mind also that the screenshots of these roms do not do them justice. You need to see them on the Super AMOLED display to really see how gorgeous they are!

im about to try one of them now
So I'm looking for a new ROM now that Calkulin has apparently moved on to greener pastures. I was looking at the Blazer ICS ROM today, although it looks like perhaps PhantomHacker has started focusing on the SGSIII as well. I figure that might be somewhere in the hundreds of pages of comments, but thought I'd just ask if anyone's aware of whether that particular ROM will continue to get attention from the developer.
Still trying to decide whether to stick with a TW based ROM or consider something like CM or AOKP.
I can't comment on future development but I can say from experience that if you flash the rom and also the various mods and enhancements posted within the thread it is a very satisfying experience. It all depends what you are in the market for. I like Blazer ICS because it feels very basic and stock but has some nice subtle theming and tweaks. On that note, the gingerbread version of Blazer is so amazing I'm having a hard time justifying ICS.

I see no reason really to flash an ics ROM until it can surpass the perfection that is blazer gb ROM.

I believe Phantom doesn't actually have an S III yet but is developing blindly and using testers. He will soon have one though. But one thing to understand about Blazer is that it's not for flashaholics. Phantom didn't update 4.1 (GB) for months because there were simply no bugs to be fixed. He doesn't update to add cool new features or anything - just to make it stable, fast, and battery-friendly. That said, Blazer ICS isn't at this state yet so hopefully Phantom will update.

this is me as well. ICS does feel snappier. And android wifi tether supports infrastructure and I want to run chrome. Also samsung Ics email has a nasty exchange bug that is keeping meoff my work email. I may have to move to a AOSP rom to get that bug fixed.

I can attest to the fact that his Blazer Rom 0.3.1 is outstanding. Like stated above, its more of a factory TouchWiz feel with some very nice added features and outstanding themeing. I am a rom fanatic and I think I will be sticking with this one for awhile because of how stable and smooth it feels. Very nice and you wont regret flashing it, be sure to look for TDunham's posts with all of the extras.

That's actually what's appealing to me about this ROM as well. I've flashed exactly one ROM to my phone. Did lots of research and landed on Calk's GB ROM and never looked back. Also to your point, that's what I'm trying to decide is to stick with what I've got now or whether this the right time to jump to Blazer's ICS. I love that I'm able to flash whatever ROM I like, but I simply don't have the free time to spend a lot of time ROM-jumping.

That's really good to know. I MUST have my work email and calendar on this phone, so if there's a serious bug that'll be a big factor for me. I'm using the native ICS email client on a tablet I've got w/o trouble (as far as I can tell). Do I understand correctly that Blazer's ROM will have a Samsung email client and not the native ICS email client? Forgive me if I've misunderstood.
That is correct. It doesn't affect everyone though, so it's possible you would not be affected.

You can always load the stock ICS mail and exchange apk's on his rom. Thats what I had to do in order to get my exchange working.
Blazers rom was pretty great and all but for my phone it was always a lil buggy its honestly been too long since I flashed it to remember the bugs I had I think it was a browser issue if I'm not mistaken. but I've found a great balance of calks rom with blazers framework and system ui. I flashed these together and it is perfect haven't had a problem since. blazers tweaks to the system ui with the scrollable shortcuts are awesome but calks battery life is 2nd to none together its perfect os till a better ics experience comes along imho

As for an Exchange solution, goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hange+security and follow the link in the OP to download the zip. It is the stock email and exchange apk's and follow the directions.
Basically you have to delete your Exchange Account, force close, clear cache and clear data for both, rename the old email and exchange apk's in the system/app folder, then put the two apk's in the zip in the same folder, make sure you give them the same permissions as all of the other apk's in the folder. Restart your device and start a new account, you should be good to go.
Unfortunately I really liked the newer mail app, the black updated version but I havent found a fix for it yet. If anyone knows of a permanent solution for the newer one please let me know.
What rom is running on your Sprint s3?
What made you go that way? Currently am using Freegs3 latest build. Using Ktweak
I am wondering which is best. It's been about a month since a rom from Free GS3 I am wondering if i am missing out on new features or is the rom just that damn good that updates are few and far between. I am kinda wanting to keep sbeam and svoice or i would just flash cyanogen.
Whats your guys' take on it?
I am using FreeGS3 myself and it is my favorite rom to date. Clark44 has been busy with school and said that as of 12/21 he will be able to start working on an update. In the meantime he said to check the UpdateMe app for additions in there. I use FreeGS3 because I am not big on color themed roms and just prefer a smooth rom with great battery life and some added features here and there. So my choices with that are basically FreeGS3 or Freeza's Fre3 rom (don't remember off the top of my head what exactly it is called). I have used both roms and they are both excellent.
Aokp cuz it's the best
Also using FreeGS, I've tried CM and AOKP and MIUI, keep coming back to this room for the motion features plus it just works!

Couldn't have said it better. FreeGS3 is the one. Performance, battery life and features are solid.
I'm not interested in flashy coloured ROMS with 3 breasted elves and tooted serpents, etc. Those things irritate me to no end.
freegs3 here too.. main reason was i wanted something stable, upgradable, unthemed, and it had options to NOT install tweaks i didn't want. very stable rom, battery life's great, does everything i need it to do.
Yeah I hate themed ROMs too, not to mention 95% of them look gaudy and make my eyes trickle blood.
I'm running LiquidSmooth for 2 reasons:
1. It's unimaginably smooth, like the UI is consistently at 60 FPS. The only time I ever notice slowdowns is when I scroll to the bottom of my apps from the Play Store while it's loading icons
2. I love the Nav Bar, coming from the Galaxy Nexus, and prior to that the iOS, it really changes how Android works. My last phone before I switched was the EVO 3D, before that the EVO 4G and then the Hero. The menu button was relevant then, but now it's really dumb guessing if an app has a menu or not. Even with the Nav Bar (set to 44p instead of the default 48p) it really doesn't use much of the screen. In fact makes it more comfortable for me to use one handed since I don't have to contort my thumb to the capacitive back button that is usually where my palm rests.
I like FreeGS3, but Samsung's implementation of the Nav Bar sucks, especially without the slide up for Google Now shortcut.
I questioned going back to the Nexus after a couple days with the GS3, because almost all ROMs on that are fully featured and are only without camera, MMS, etc. for a short amount of time, but LiquidSmooth has kept me for the long haul. Over the 3 years I've spent with Android, I never imagined it would be so fluid so soon. Not even CM or AOKP give me the same fluidity.
Currently on The People's Rom. Great options, almost weekly updates. Performance and battery life are great. (Used to run TPR on my OG Epic as well). The Nexus nav bar can be added to most roms by adding a line to the build prop.
I'm running FreeGS3 also. I've tried many of the other roms but keep coming back to it. I don't like the themed roms either, I prefer to just use morphology to change the things I want.

Exactly this, but I'm running Freeza's DeoDeoxed stock ROM. Love everything about TW..!
I run Odex Blue because I like TW functionality and the color blue and inverted apps. Also, steve is very responsive and has some great assistance that allows for fun options on an Odexed Rom.
I've been using the stock rom, I love things that AOKP can do (If you hate touchwiz and Samsung, I would go with AOKP) like emoji and stuff, but I find myself coming back to touchwiz because I like the features they did. They got it right for me so I stuck with it.

Running Team Nocturnal's "Goodness" JB rom.
Using it because there are awesome devs (themers, coders, etc) working together every day on it so updates come regularly. It is stable, fast, smooth, has great battery, and the colors added are just right. It has options galore due to the built in updater so everything from lockscreen to notification bar can be changed. It integrates with Rom Toolbox as well. Has all the compatible 4.2 apps and latest features so it never feels like your phone is being left behind. Support in the thread is great as well due to the dedication of the devs/contributors to this rom.
Has anyone found a way to get the touchwhiz featurs on an aosp rom such as cyanogen. I would love cyanogen but i like sbeam alot

The biggest difference is the updates. You gotta stay on top. So kenny is da man right now.

I highly recommend Whompasaurus, I've settled on it after trying several others. It gives you stock functionality, and more. Plus, it's easy to tweak and theme to your heart's content. It's fast and very stable and the latest version (4.2) was just rolled out today by the dev.
Another note: The Morphology zip flashes on top of Whomp flawlessly in case you want the additional theme options of that program (You just have to flash the Macks Updater zip first). Definitely check out the screenshots over in the the Android development forum to get a better feel for the various ROMs, but I really have to recommend Whomp. Let me know if you have any questions.
