[MOD] Disable CPU Rendering for ICS/CM9 and GB - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Ok. Forget about the Near Project Butter for ICS that i´ve ported to our device.
The tweaks contained there that are added to the build.prop, may cause misbehaviour on your SGW. But because some people ignored my warnings, I decided to remove the ported MOD. Beside this the tweaks added to the build.prop are not needed as I couldn´t see any benefit in using them.
So you only need to disable CPU Rendering to get it faster and smoother.
Therefore I made a MOD that just disables CPU Rendering.
>>>Disable CPU Rendering.<<< This one works with all ICS/CM9 and GB ROMs
Dropbox Mirror
You can also enable 16-bit-Transparency in your CM9 settings to make it even more faster.
Flash it as a zip file via CWM Recovery.
The Disable CPU Rendering MOD will create a backup of your egl.cfg file and your libGLES_android.so file.
To revert back you simply have to delete egl.cfg and rename egl.cfg.bak into egl.cfg. The same with libGLES_android.so.bak. Reboot and you are done. Or simply restore your Backup you made hopefully before flashing it.
[Edit:] I´ve updated the Disable CPU Rendering file. Now it works in GB as well. There was an unmont command to much in the script i´ve used, so the egl.cfg file was not updated in GB. Now it works and will also create backup files of the modified files.
[Note:] Do not expect higher scores in your benchmarks by applying this mod. This mod just disables CPU rendering completely so the UI will be rendered by the GPU and so running smoother.

downloaded, making a backup. will install.
(i thought rapidshare was long gone. )
thanks.
flashed, performance is ok. (i haven't seen any difference.)

does it takes more battery?
verbraucht die gpu mehr batterie als die cpu beim UI rendering?

so if i want it i just flash the first, if i don't want it more i have only to flash te second one?

Topic quote:
"And in case you want to revert back, simply restore your Backup you made hopefully before flashing it."
if you didn't made the backup, you should best reflash your ROM

No. At least not if you just disable CPU rendering. Not sure how about the additional tweaks in build.prop because I didn´t test them for a long time, but without them there is no difference in consumption.
I´m also not using these tweaks in build.prob because I couldn´t see a difference with and without them. So just having CPU rendering disabled and 16-bit-Transparency enabled.
Just ported the whole MOD but personally disabling CPU rendering and enabling 16 bit transparency is enough for me. This will already make CM9 smoother, even without adding the additional tweaks into build.prop.

I thought it´s clear the one called Buttersmooth is with the tweaks in build.prob and the other one is without them. Both do disable CPU rendering.

This is exactly what the Disable CPU Rendering MOD will do. Exept adreno_config.txt is not added because it´s not needed. So you can do it manually, but flashing it is more comfortable.
The Buttersmooth MOD will also add the adreno_config file as well as some tweaks into the build.prop file, but like said previously you don´t need them either, so it´s enough to flash just the Disable CPU Rendering MOD.
You can apply this mod to any CM9 based ROM for the SGW.
I was told it even works with GB based ROMs.
So it´s rather an easy MOD and quite easy to undo unlike all the other engine MODs and scripts.

ok instead of "0 0 android" I should write there "libGLES_android.so" and then save it as "libGLES_android.so.bak", right?
because in gingerbread there is also the egl.cfg.
edit:
nevermind I had a brainlag, now I understand ...

tried on mutant rom only with Disable CPU Rendering, the result is better than update newer driver. but if i flash buttersmooth for cm9(but i still using gb),the performance drop like hell.
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda app-developers app

You shouldn´t flash the Buttersmooth for CM9 in GB. The tweaks there are only for ICS/CM9 and will cause a drop in performance. So only use Disable CPU Rendering.
But you can edit build.prop and remove the tweaks added there.

when I delete the line "0 0 android" and then save it, it wont save. when I open the file then, there is again "0 0 android". and when I rename libGLES.so.bak its again libGLES.so after.
so it doesnt work with gingerbread? I already restarted, but there is no difference.

You need to mount the directory as Read/Write as its mounted as ReadOnly, but why are you doing it manually if you simply can flash the file and all will be done for you?

[ROM] Cow ROM v7 (Bionic Cow 2)

Version 7 of Cow ROM: Bionic Cow 2.
- For arco68
It's basically an update to Bionic Cow using latest firmware from Sammy - I8150DXLC1. Features:
1) The OC kernel has been rewrote. It should be more stable and graphic score improved.
2) Bionic Scorpion Optimization library. Using NEON instructions for faster memory operations. Learned from arco68 github for ICS.
3) CowPanel 2 - use this util to configure VSYnc on/off. For speed, use VSync off. For smooth, use VSync on + triple buffering. Read more here. You also may configure zRam option here. zRam is off by default. Read more here.
4) Many CPU governors: Default using OnDemandX for best battery; 80% left in 24 hours. Use "Performance" for benchmarking.
5) More RAM - 358Mb available, compare to 351Mb in stock ROM.
6) Using a super light Zeam Launcher. Thanks cloakt for permission to use.
7) Internal / external sd card swap, CRT screen off effect, Low Memory Killer Tweaked, OnDemandX tweaked, Custom Bootup animation and Larger SD Card cache, Voice Search, etc.
8) Based on arco68 GB kernel. Without which, none of this is possible.
Special thanks to arco68, tch9, andynroid and pinkyunki, Murny Umairah, Myrule Anarki, Santos San Martin and Mohd Fazrin Daud from SGW group.
*WARNING*: Don't use OC ROM unless you know what you are doing. The ROM will automatically reset to 1.4ghz - OnDemandX after reboot as a safety precaution. I only set to 1.8ghz OC for short time during Cheat Engine hacks, zip / unzip, benchmark, etc. I always reset back to max 1.4ghz for normal used. I strongly recommend you to set a temperature profile if CPU ever get above 50C you should lower max clock back to 1.4ghz.
So, here is the link:

Here is how to install the ROM:
1. Enable recovery.
2. Use 7zip, right click on xxxx.001, extract. It will create the zip file required for flashing. Copy this zip into your phone. (Don't extract xxx.002)
3. Boot into ClockWorkMod / RZRecovery, backup your current ROM using nandroid (just in case).
4. If you are upgrading from my previous ROM;
- BEFORE installing the ROM, Uninstall CowPanel: Setting, Application, Cowpanel, uninstall
- Wipe Dalvik-cache. All your settings and app will remained. Theme will changed though.
5. If you are installing from stock or from other custom ROM, best to wipe everything using CWM, including your USB and external sd card. Reinstall everything from fresh, don't restore anything from Titanium Backup or anything.
Google Map? Missing apk? Original theme? If you want to restore to stock theme, get all the apk here.
Report Problem: If you encounter FC or any problem, please provide logcat so I may trace it:
1. Connect phone to USB
2. adb logcat > log.txt
3. In your phone, reproduce the crash / FC / etc
4. Kill all adb process in your PC
5. Zip and send me the log.txt
Update Radio Firmware
I8150DXLC1 comes with an updated Radio firmware. This should improve voice call quality. Check if you need to update this, go to Check "Setting", "About phone", "Baseband version". If you already have I8150DXLC1 or newer you dont need this. If not, use Odin to flash this. This will only update the Radio firmware, nothing else will change. You can do this before or after install Bionic Cow 2 ROM.
1. Get Odin.
2. Get ancora.ops.
3. Get radio firmware.
4. Boot into "download mode". Connect phone to PC. Start Odin
5. Select OPS file = ancora.ops. Select One Package = radio firmware, check "One package", "Auto reboot", "Protect OPS".
6. Start and wait till it complete.

I really love the theme, very nice!!
Thanks my friend!!
As now, i'm using your Bionic, Cow. Love the green-ish theme, seems smoothly smart!
A few things btw :
1. When booting up, there is still sound of the boot animation. How to disable it?
2. When locking the phone, the transition is somewhat like distortion-type, not like the scale-old-tv in your previous ROM. Is it supposed to be that way or my phone goes wrong?
3. The "3G icon" in status bar alternately goes from small to big and vice versa. Also is this meant to be as such? :/
Apart of those, it is indeed a GREAT and SUPERB ROM.

min speed ? ondemand or ondemandx ?
I must be dumb.
I download xxx.7z.001 and xxx.7z.002.
Right click on 001: extract here puts META-INF, data and system folders and the other files in the folders I am working in. If I right click and extract to GT-I8150-BIONIC it just puts those files in a folder. No sign of a flashable zip.
What am I doing wrong?
Bomoh, an user who doesn't have permission to post in Dev section yet, told me this solution and it's working. Thanks to him!

Hi
I don't know but the developers missed one "important part"
The lib "libncurses" doesn't included
This file needed for sqlite3 to run and defrag the database
So the sqlite in this script will not run
Maybe the developer just get it in ACE thread and never know it
and
This script in init.d folder cannot run automatically
Because wonder kernel "this time" cannot start the init.d
so you must run in manually by script manager
Meanwhile i used some thing like this optimization for Black Notes
Regards
thank you rio for your professional review but now i dont think we need this script anymore because cowitgun already optimized I/O performance in his newest bionic rom.
im running on RS(rio saputro) custom blacknote chapter 3 rom and i flash the adrenaline but my quadrant I/O doesnt seems to increase as much as your tomatoman ... how come ?
i also dont know how come my quadrant score increase by the fact that our kernel doesn't support init.d script and im not running it manually and also we all know bionic v6 score quite low in I/O. Maybe because im using the overclock one. But dont rely on quadrant because as long as the rom is fast and smooth enough, it doesn't matter.
yeah true to that ...
but im just worried about my battery that's why i tried flashing the adrenalin
i think i need a new battery .. good thing the warranty for the battery is still available

[MOD] **EZ InitD for the S3 - And Busybox**

This will enable the loading of scripts in /system/etc/init.d without editing the boot.img.
This will work for ALL dual core S3 variants.
There are two versions, one with my ondemand profile and one without. The one that has CPUProfile has it, this is a script that runs at boot setting the ondemand options to favor battery without sacrificing performance. Most user saw a GREAT increase in battery life especially when idle. See the link in my sig to use the full cpu editor. (works on the S3 with this mod)
To add init.d manually to your own rom just open /system/etc/init.qcom.post_boot.sh and add this line to the end of the file:
Code:
/system/etc/init.d/*
This mod also installs busybox which enables alot of tools native to busybox see here for busybox usage.
To install flash in recovery.
Download:
Add init.d ONLY:
EZ_Init.d ONLY
Add init.d and CPUProfile Script:
EZ_Init.d AND CPUProfile
So does this tweak the onDemand governor? Is it safe to use with setCPU? Is it safe with the Sammy kernel?
Nevermind...found the Sammy kernel thread under "original development"
good work man nice another great addition to the gs3
Works as advertised, thanks for this!

Not sure why do you need to mount /system as writable in init.d script. Does that mean regular init.d scripts won't work?

Is it because of Odin?

Can we see some proof or evidence from users that this does indeed give significantly better battery usage when idling without impacting performance?

Do you flash this in stock recovery or cwm?
Worked at flash... Does this conflict with the CPU disabler script?

This mod also installs busybox which enables alot of tools native to busybox see here for busybox usage.

smokin OP and Dev of this mod.
I copied the CPU Sleeper script (Eugene373) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745517 and the Ram Manager script (Juwe11) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745517 into the flashable you made...can I share it if I give you props?:fingers-crossed:
I flashed this in CWM and found the init.d folder with scripts installed.
When I opened the 99test script, I noted that a test file with "done" should have been created in data/local/tmp. I could not find this file anywhere.
Am I looking in the wrong place or am I correct in assuming that init.d functionality is not working?

[Q] Two questions in cm10

1) i want change apps system for example Apollo, Message, Keyboard with apps from other rom...how do?
2) i have read in the fxp before 141 that if i do a nandroid backup i delete all file in sd...this problem is solved in fxp141 true?...
the first is more important!!...
for 1: -
I think the easiest answer here is to do this: -
Open the zip file that is the downloaded rom
go to folder "system/app"
Delete any apk files that you don't want installed
Dray ang apk files that you do want installed into this folder
You can download "7zip" for free - it allows you to delete and insert files into a zip file.
for your 2nd question: -
CWM backs up and restores correctly using one of the custom kernels (no formatting of sdcard).
I've used Lupus, and ArcFusion - they both work.
There is a "glitch" with all CM10 versions of CWM - each time you move up or down in the menu the display does something funny (@besttt describes it as "dances"). This doesn't affect the way CWM works, only the way it looks.
Enjoy.

thxxxxxxxxx it was what I was searching!!!!
moreover i knew the "glitch" because i have arc fusion xD but i'm curious....in your signature i have see that you have fxp141 with corrections...which are this corrections?? and v6 supercharger isn't included in the rom??
You need to search the thread for fxp 141 fixes by @besttt.
The fixes for 141 are not complicated. Just one file to be flashed after install.
I just run supercharger to set the "min frees" and to bulletproof my phone app. You don't need services.jar modified on this rom.
It is fast!

SS|DS|UB |SCRIPT| [CM11/KK][JB] Blazing Thunder [Speed|Performance] [Tested On CM11]

I noticed that there are a lot of great tweaks out there for android phones, but most users cant find them because they're distributed all over XDA. So here i am, with a collection of those tweaks, in an All in one flashable zip. Merged some, modified some, add a lot. Its pretty much a universal tweak, it will work on every device, except for 2 or 3 files modified to work on our Xperia M.
And if your going to add this to your ROm, please let me know and add me to the credits!
How to's-
Install:
1. Boot into CWM
2. Wipe dalvik cache
3. Flash zip
4. Reboot
Do note that the ROM will take time to boot up, so don't go on doing something crazy like removing the battery.
Thunder Features:
-Cleaned up
-MUCH better Ram usage
-Cache Cleared at every boot
-SD speed tweak
-Logger removed
-Better browser performance
-Sysctl tweaks
-Added modified Zram script
-Better battery life
-Lag? GONE
-Faster GUI
-Loopy smoothness tweak
-Apps zipaligned at every boot
-Faster Networking
-Smoother LWP animation
-Adrenaline boost
-Kernel Tweaks
-Better gaming
Supported:-
All devices with init.d support
-All GB ROMs
-All ICS ROMs
-All JB ROMs
-All KK ROMs - Found some tweaks working here, tested.

Choice is yours..
gonna try this..
but first, I need to ask permission first to my wife coz the device isn't mine..
One question before o try this...
Instead of init.d from kernel, can i run the scripts from init.qcom.post_boot.sh?

Don't know much bout this method... Since, this device is new to me.. I'll suggest you to flash via cwm for safety..
kaustubh.rockstar said:
Why try something hard when you have an easy method available. .sh method may not work or it may. I don't know anything 'bout this method. Since, I have bought this device just now few days back.
Coming from the Samsung Series, I have very less idea 'bout this phone.
Cutting the **** in short - Test it via init.d method, or via that .sh method you stated. Tell me bout it if you don't mind..

Let me explain. Stock kernel doesn't support init.d and i don't have an unlocked bootloader. I will flash the zip with Flash Gordon. To execute the scripts I will modify that file, which executes post boot obviously, to execute those scripts. Just by adding the line:
/etc/init.d/*
you get init.d support in stock kernel

Hey mate.. ive modified the file you said and added the "/etc/init.d/*" at the very bottom of the init.qcom.post_boot.sh file and flashed in flash gordon (i also dont have an unlocked bootloader).
Nothing seems to have happened though... am i missing something? Did you get this tweak to work?
Regards,
Chris.
---------- Post added at 05:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:40 PM ----------
ok so just to clarify, ive scrolled to the bottom of the init.qcom.post_boot.sh file pressed return so there is a space then added the /etc/init.d/* so it looks like this...
" ;;
esac
/etc/init.d/*"
Is this correct? first time i did it i got a bootloop :S so i just took the battery out and back in and it booted fine... the phone booted normally though - didnt take ages as suggested, not sure if its working or not :S the phone seems fluid and fast but it always has since i got it (thats why im not overly stressed that i cant unlock my bootloader and get elixer yet) and i haven't added any mods/or tweaks apart from AC!D audio mod and the x-reality engine.
Any info from the OP or you Antrikos would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
**OK i think i have it working, but i just did an Antutu benchmark and ive gone from 1163 to 10602 :S surely that cant be right?**

For confirmation of script's installation, head towards system/etc/init.d to see if the folder exists, and if there are same files as that in the zip.
And antutu benchmarks are never stable. All I want is that your phone remains lagfree and smooth regardless of the antutu or other crap.
Thanks.

Hold on a second... Elixir don't support init.d. We need to create a folder manually for that...
Don't flash with Flash Gordon. Copying and pasting the files from the zip to their respective paths is much easier imo. That's how I did it. And I edited the init.qcom.post_boot.sh manually, didn't flash it.

Right I tried copying the files to their respected folders from the zip but my phone just restarts...
ive installed the init.d apk and im reflashing using flash Gordon now ive rebooted and it says its optimising applications etc
OP if I copy the zip contents to the init.d folder do I just copy them all as they are i.e the bin folder etc folder and the the other one into the init.d folder
sorry to be a pain, im hardly a n00b to this stuff (I had an xperia ray before this modded to f**k) but ive tried running the supercharger script and EVERY time it just reboots my phone, so im trying this one and ive modified the init.qcom.post_boot.sh like antrikos said.
ive got FULL root and ive flashed using flash Gordon, but it wont let me copy the files to their respected folders using a root explorer EVEN after changing the permissions (EVERY time I copy a file to the system my phone just restarts :S) never had this problem on my ray.
Oh and btw to the person that asked I flashed the v7 acid mod using flash Gordon... worked perfectly first time... dno why you might be having problems mate sorry...
grrr I wish I just could unlock the bootloader - would make things soooo much easier.
***update right now flash Gordon is telling me that its not a flashable zip?? :S confused because before it said it was fine***
