I recently updated my CM7 rom... I didn't checked the "erase dalvik cache" option...
So everything went fine... But now phone goes white everytime I open Gmail... I tried uninstalling it but then I can't download it from play store because when my PC it says that app is already installed. And I can't access play store from my phone since I need to sync my gmail account.
How to fix it... I mean maybe downloading the right Gmail app
And thanks for taking the time to read and help my problem

And here lies your problem, wiping dalvik cache is a crucial thing to be done when installing a new ROM or when updating your currently installed ROM.
ALWAYS WIPE BOTH CACHE AND DALVIK CACHE.
So, i've got two solutions for you.
1 - Uninstall Gmail app, clean Play Store's app data, reboot into recovery and wipe both cache AND dalvik cache.
If the solution above does not work, do this:
2 - Format everything (cache, data, boot and everything else) and reinstall your ROM. (this one is fail-proof, I mean, it WILL work but will erase EVERYTHING in your PHONE)

Hey guys, I'm starting have some problems when installing applications on my mt3gs.
First I thought it was the apps, because only like 2 apps wouldn't install, but now NO apps will install.. I keep on getting the error, "Package file is invalid.". I have no idea what it means, I was hoping I could get some help..
Here's some details,
I'm using the "SLIDE MR1.v4 With Eclair" rom.
I've had it for a few months, haven't had any problems with it.
Then about 2 or 3 days before the 14th of august, I set up my sd card and phone for Apps2SD, it worked.
I don't know if the rom is the issue, or the app2sd is the issue, but I'm just looking for some help.
If you need anymore information about the phone, just ask I'll glady provide you guys with it. I REALLY need the help, because as of now; I'm unable to install any applications.
Got It...
What I did to fix this was...
Clear Market Cache (Settings->Applications->All->Market->Clear Cache)
Clear System Cache
Clear Dalvik Cache
The step that did it for me was clearing dalvik cache. Just posted this so it was up for anyone who needed to find it (one of the first pages on google). Couldn't find the proper solution anywhere else.
P.S. Your phone has to be rooted to do the last two steps. (Google "Android Clear Dalvik Cache")
P.S.S Your phone will take a while to reboot after clearing the Dalvik Cache. That's normal.
Ok, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can never get rid of stuff completely.... like my Gapps are still there after everything and all I install is CM
I tried:
Wipe data/user settings
Wipe Cache
Wipe Davlik Cache
I also tried:
Wipe data/user settings
Wipe Cache
Wipe Davlik Cache
Format Data (in Partitions)
Format Cache (in Partitions)
Format Boot (in Partitions)
Format System (in Partitions)
I have tried both these options and I am still left with remnants of previous ROMs. Any suggestions? Do I have to load PC36IMG.zip and then root everytime to have a clean install? Seems a little extreme...

Clockwork 2.5 (previously), but I just switched to RA Recovery v2.2.2 still have Gapps on my phone... CM doesn't include Gapps right? I remember having to install them before unless something changed
Can't get rid of gapps, dude. CM requires it that they be there so they're protected files that you can't erase (unless you flash a new rom, which has all the gapps built in anyway).
I hope you like Google programs, because you are stuck with em

I love Gapps! I just suspect some of my FCs is because I had an older version of them. I am running CM7 now and I have the new GB Gapps but I thought it was odd that Gmail, Maps, etc was still on there before I even flashed the new Gapps
So to answer my original question, there is no way to completely wipe short of reimaging with PC36IMG and rooting again?
Run FORMAT_ALL from the post below. Once its down booting your new install, do not put your information into the setup wizard (just keep hitting skip). This will get you a clean install. REMEMBER FORMAT ALL WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE (not sdcard/recovery/boot/s-off).

I'll give it a go, but according to Caulkin's thread all it is doing is what I did already! (wipe data, cache & format boot/system) I will try it out though. Thanks!
I did never try skipping the setup wizard... Hmm

This is the key, it will not restore the old apps, if you skip the wizard.
Well, I did it! Yippee!
I did the following this time around:
Wipe data/user settings
Wipe cache
Wipe Davlik cache
Ran Caulkin's Format_all.zip
Installed CM7 nightly
Funny thing is, it bypassed the setup altogether... I'm guessing because Gapps were finally gone! It brought me right to the home screen, I opened up apps and no Gmail, no Market, nothing! Finally!
So I rebooted Recovery, installed GB Gapps and I am running smooth as butter (No FCs yet!)
Thanks everyone! Especially bwcorvis for the link to Caulkin's script
Glad i could help
Hi all!
I got an app called "App 2 SD Free" made by Sam Lu today. And it suggesting clearing my app cache (clear app cache, that what it says) and I am confused with what will it do. For example, will it clear my Facebook App sign in data? And is this app cache is Dalvik Cache?
Edit: Oh, guys it's too late. I accidentally cleared it And looks like no change.

Im also a user of that app. And i cleared it many times and nothing happened to me. Sign-in data's will not be cleared even if u clear the application cache and application data (checked for gmail, market).
Cache is a storage space for temporary files. And clearing cache will speed up the applications definitely. And that's also a way to free up memory.
Coming to dalvik cache,
Dalvik cache is a program cache area for the program dalvik. Dalvik is a java based virtual machine that is the bases for running your programs (the ones that have the .apk extension), in order to make access times faster (because there's not JIT compiler installed by default). The dalvik-cache is the result of dalvik doing a optimization of the running program. It's similar to the prefetch files in Windows.
[sorry if im wrong]

Sorry for that. Like i said, i checked it with gmail and market only. Later i came to know that gmail once attached to the wildfire cannot be deleted. The only way to remove gmail is hard reset. And market uses gmail login data.
And im using stock 2.2 wildfire. And i checked facebook for htc sense and plurk. These login data's will also be not deleted by clearing cache/data. And maybe we cannot expect 3rd party apps to retain their login data even after clearing cache/data (example: XDA app).
I just installed the newest version of Blu Kuban, everything went fine. I cleared everything and was a clean flash. Now when I try to re-download all my apps the market is giving me this error "Error retrieving information from server. [DF-BPA-21]" I looked it up on here and google, and I tried what other people did, clear market cache, data, clear framework data, turn wifi on-off, and it's still giving me the error. I even tried to install them from my computer, and it's says this app will be installed on your device shortly, but they never get pushed through. Can someone please help me.
Settings....applications.....find google play and then clear everything you can clear associated with it. Restart the phone....clear cache and dalvik cache.
This should clear everything up <-- pun intended.:cyclops:
I wonder how to do a full wipe before flashing new rom. Few methods tried;
1. Factory reset
2. Format ext/ format data/ format system and etc
3. Fastboot erase cache
But after new rom installed, It will automatically revert back to my previous old rom wallpaper. I suspect some old data still there. Please help
Clear everything. Cache, dalvik cache, data, system, factory reset....that should do it

...yes, and you do it in Recovery...
you can also flash this super wipe script: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1806349&stc=1&d=1363334830
Hi both, yes I'm doing it in recovery. Really clear everything that can be clear + format. But after installing new rom (renovate3, ARHD and ordroid), unfortunately still same. Before doing first reboot, the wallpaper automatically revert back to old/previous rom wallpaper. And new rom even remember my wifi password... zzz
If enabled, your google account will restore your settings, wifi passwords and the Play Store can be set to automatically download your apps
So if your are setting the device up providing your google account, this is the reason.
