When my text messages reach cap my ring tone starts to lag and not play fully. Also my screen flickers sometimes. I'm sorry if this has been posted already but I can not find it. I assume most people on here don't reach text cap. We are most likely nerds right?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Nerds indeed ha. But I have not had an issue with any sort of ring lag. I just use the beep for messages though.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I have seen this asked once maybe around 2 weeks ago if I'm remembering right. But I don't remember if they found a solution or not. If I can find it ill let you know.
When you say they reach cap what do you mean exactly? Do you mean the point where it starts auto deleting when you reach the set number of stored messages?
If you delete some/many/all of your texts does it work right again? If you do have auto delete set , does it still happen if you turn that off?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yeah when they start auto deleting, I have it set at 200. And yes it does stop when I delete the thread but I don't want to have to do that. It does stop if I turn off auto delete but when I did that my text app was super slow opening because it got to full.

Ok. Well at least now we can be fairly sure we know what causes it. I know its not what you are going to want to do but you could either turn off the auto delete option, manually assign a much shorter tone to any contacts that get this high, or try this.... set the limit to something like 500, then when you reach that point set it back down to 200 and see if it deletes everything back down to that point. Then set back to 500 until it happens again. Or try turning it off and when you feel its time to clean house turn it back on, let it delete everything back to 200, and turn it off again. I don't know if it'll even work this way but may be worth a try.
I know these are just workarounds, but they may be easier to deal with than messed up notification tones at least until a fix of some sort is found.
Another possibility is using a 3rd party app, but I couldn't tell you which to go with there.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I'm going to try that 500 to 200 thing because I know I would forget to delete them. Thanks for the help.

Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Very cool! So when you get to 500 and set it back to 200, it does delete the 300 oldest msgs? Then you set it back to 500 till next time right?
I know that's pretty much what I said earlier. Just making sure it worked how I thought it would.
Anyway, I'm glad it did!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yeah it did, well I think. There is no way to count them as far as I know. It does work now though, the ringtone that is. To be honest I don't like that u gave to do this.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I don't blame you. Like I said, its just a work around, not a fix. Maybe another build would be better?
Actually I just thought of something else. A lot of audio issues have been solved by removing MusicFX.apk and .odex from /system/app. If you're rooted you could try that as well. If it fixes it flash DSP Manager to replace it. I have a copy if you need it. Just let me know

OK I changed my screen density to 200 and now every app on the market says its not compatible with my device
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
There is an easy and obvious solution to this problem.
You may be exaggerating a little, but you're having the issue because a density of 200 isn't one of the "native" densities that Google's Android Market apps are meant to work at:
The "native densities" are 240, 160, and 1(20) or 1(40), I can never remember the last one, lol.
Simply switch back to either 160 or 240, and all those apps will "magically" become compatible again.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Reset to 240 or 160 , manage apps, select the market app reset cache then defaults, reopen market u r good 2 go

Yeah I could tell you something useful but it would take more time for me to type out an actual response than for you to find a solution by simply SEARCHING. Just to test my theory, I searched for a solution with the search tool conveniently provided by xda and found one in about 15 seconds. You should try it next time, it does wonders.
In fact, there is a solution in the OP of a thread on the FIRST PAGE of this forum. What a coincidence.
I've mentioned the fix and why in several threads, searching would have found the answer.
You can get your apps from the Amazon or Samsung market apps also. Those markets don't have a issue with your "density"
Its funny the market suddenly doesn't have a issue now

I have a weird problem with my phone. Every so often, my phone wjll vibrate twice, in two really short bursts that arent powerful at all. It is completely random. What apps do you have that give off frequent notification? Do you have facebook, friendcaster, word w/f, etc.? Can you give us a small run down?
you can also download betterbatterystats (free here on XDA) and look at what frequently runs perhaps it appears as a wakelock.
or you can always look at logcat

It's a kernel crash. It's a part of android. It usually happens to let you know that it crashed but android reloads where it last left off. Hence the reason for the gap in music. If you press home immediately after you will catch it trying to finish reloading.

Is the same app running every time it happens? It may be a 3rd party app that isn't completely compatible running on your phone. Try deleting any third party widgeta.. then going into your task manager and clearing your memory. Then add one widget at at time til it starts doing it. If it doesn't do it, then open one of your e eryday apps at a time till you have the vibrating again. You may find some crappy lil app that you installed is causing all the problems.

I found a few apps that tracks your phone down or even takes pictures of the person trying to unlock it, but like the title says, is there any app that blocks hard reset? It's kind of pointless if your phone gets stolen if they can just shut the phone off and do a hard reset to it and sign in with there email,
Thanks :-D

I guess in theory you could place an app like Seekdroid in the system folder and then do a hard reset. Usually a hard reset won't affect system apps.

you can't really avoid physical maneuvers. and anything baked into the phone's startup has to be a modification to the actual ROM. so no.

This is how I got around the GPS toggle not working:
Since AndroidLost.com allows you to send texts, I have setup a tasker profile which waits for a text that says "androidlost" and if it receives it, it enables GPS.

Did you make a nandroid backup after you installed a custom recovery, if you did you could test things from earlier. I'd look in an earlier backup for the problem as part of the process of elimination, as well as data wipe/reset. Is it possible it is your network? Use another phone and call your phone, can you reproduce the event? Does it put you to vm? Does it keep ringing? Do you have a 3rd party app that could be tied to it? How about Google voice?

Yes I have a backup. I have yet to do a factory wipe I was hoping to avoid it but I will do one to see if that fixes it. I don't have any app that I think interacts with my ringing other than zedge and trays just for ringtones. I can replicate the error every time from any network that calls. What would Google voice do for me?
The best advice I can give you is to start fresh and add things one by one testing each time for the problem you experience. When and if you find the culprit you can go from there.

I've seen similar things happen, seemed to be a network problem, account problem or phone not checking in type of problem.
Has it continued since she got all the back texts all at once? Does she receive texts from other people or miss those too?
First try a simple reboot if you haven't already. Send her a text and if she doesn't get it have her toggle airplane mode on/off. Try with wifi calling on and off.
Back up contacts and messages and in Application Management clear cache and data on contacts, dialer storage, dialer, and messaging.
It'd be strange for the battery to cause that, but put the old one back in and test it out.
If her phone is rooted, make a nandroid. Try a different modem. Try clear dalvik, cache and if needed data/factory reset.
If all fails call tmobile and ask to reprovision the account.
Good luck!
