I think it's S Voice. Go into the app and uncheck the below options.
Open via the home key
Wake up command

Power button, not sure.
Home button is defintitely s-voice, which hijacks the home button. It makes a delay so to wait for a double tap. Its very annoying.

I had the same delay and just tried this. It works! No more delay with the power button! Thanks americasteam.

Thanks, it works

Yes thanks americasteam! Only issue so far, everything else is butter.

I deactivated the S Voice option but there is still very noticeable delay when waking the phone with the Home or Power button.
Any suggestions?

Anyone?

There are thousands of threads all over this forum and other forums considering this issue.. This is (by the opinion of the majority) caused by Exynos.. When phone enters deep sleep state it takes while until Exynos wakes all 4 cores or smt like that...

MOD --> disable home wakeup

Hello,
For the S3.
the home button & the volumes button are disabled with this zip.
Just the power button will wake up your phone. Battery saver
Flash it with CWM.

Grtz!

Hi, nice feature. But please can you provide a undo .zip?

I would prefer one that ONLY wakes the phone with the home button

How is this a battery saving mod? Does the home-button wakeup feature actually consume some battery?

Me too! Very useful when out at concerts etc. I found that the constant movement would cause the power button to be hit, then screen would stay on for a minute with contact through thin trousers/shorts.
Eventually I found phone was quite warm and battery was slightly reduced.
And I have no idea what the volume wake does, but I have left it enabled.
How about wake up with volume keys

Basically, the file gpio-keys.kl contains four lines corresponding to both volume keys, power button and the home button.
The zip I posted removes the WAKE from just the power button. So the volume keys behave in the same way they would without the modification.
The zip the op posted removes the WAKE from the volume keys and the home button, but not the power button. (so the volume keys will no longer wake the device).
I don't know what this difference means, I assume it may have something to do with volume changing when listening to music? But I have no idea.
Does this clear it up?
But the volume keys dont wake up the phone by default right?

Nope, not as far as I have ever seen.
But they were set to WAKE, so I left them that way.
Is there a flashable file that can enable that?
Thanks1

the button doesn't, but the screen coming on does. Disabling the button is handy, when phones in pocket, and button keeps pressing.

Enable wake on volume key press? I honestly don't know how, according to the file that I modified they already do - but we know that they don't actually visibly affect the device.

I think acccidently pressing the power button is much easier than accidently pressing the home button, so arguably, you would save more power disabling the power button, and not the home button?
ThankĀ“s for this, love it.
i have a case on my s3 so pressing the power button is eliminated accidentally, however the home button i seem to press accidentally every time i pull it out of my pocket or even just shuffling it around.
Hey,can't test it because i have cm9!
Looking good though...
Could you make a zip for cm9 too?

Fair enough, I foolishly don't have a case for my phone. But I have insurance so that helps? (worst reasoning ever)

I just downloaded a CM9 nightly, the same file exists which this zip modifies.
This *should* work for you no issues, with the revert working aswell. Of course, nandroid first...

Tried with your Power button disabled mod.. Doesn't work.. After flashing, it still wakes up my phone.
I am on Stock firmware with Siyah Kernel.. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Home Button Question

When my screen turns off and I press the home button to wake the screen, any applications or notification popups I had disappears as the home button is being too "aggressive" and immediately takes me to the home screen.
Did I miss a setting somewhere to prevent this?
Thanks.
It seems the only way to prevent this is by enabling Swipe Lock. I guess this is why it's enabled by default?
I'm having the same problem no matter what I do when the screen times out and I press home it takeme back to my home screen. ..Have you found a solution yet?

In S-Voice app, bring up settings, make sure option to "Open via the home key" is checked. This will allow the home button to only wake the device when the screen is off. Unfortunately, this also introduces some lag when pressing the home button, as the software is waiting to see if you register a double click.

I hate that lag, that's why I unchecked it and ran into this Home Button problem.
The lag is pretty bad, like 2-3 seconds. Not practical.

home button delay problem

I searched but could not find any solution.
when I press the home button I have 2 seconds delay. the same if I press the other key on the right side.
after the delay if I press again it response quickly like it should but after sleep it happen again.
is there a fix?
Which launcher are you using? Home button lag is often associated with launcher redraws.
If what you mean is a delay when leaving an app to get back to the homescreen....turn off 'open via home key' in s voice settings. The delay when walking the phone is related to the processor and is unavoidable.

did that and still no go.
When i leave an app it works fine.
I mean when i did not touch the phone for some time and the screen is off. then i press the home key the i have the 2 seconds delay.
this is normal for the Galaxy note 2?
by the way I am using the CLEANROM SE 1.5.

Apps to launch camera

Are there any apps that can control the buttons to launch the camera? Double press power button or something like that?
you can jus swipe down twice when the screen is off/locked

Yea but that is far slower than double clicking the power button as pulling it out of pocket

Double power-button press is definitely easier and faster. You can press them right in your pocket and whip it out and take a photo. I hope HTC adds that in as a gesture.
With Nova launcher I set up the camera to launch when I double tap the screen. Very convenient.

That's not what OP asked for though. You can already swipe down twice to launch it, but having it operated by a double button press would be nicer.
I seem to remember you were able to wake to camera on M9 by holding it landscape and hitting volume up or dn. Doesn't work here, I kinda liked that feature.
just pick the phone up in landscape mode and hit the volume down button.
edit: wait a minute, i just re-tried this and it doesn't seem to be working. i could swear it was working a couple days ago

Long time to turn on.

Not really a problem but I was curious to see if it is normal for this phone to take a little while to react after pressing the power button. Seems to take a few seconds to vibrate after pressing the button.
