I think we should pitch in some donations or something to try to get a dev to create a dual/tri boot for this phone
.. If it's possible for our device.

As far as I know it should be possible. The international S2 has dual boot...

It would be nice if bootmanager worked on our phone but the zImage kernel causes issues with the way they handle the boot from SD function

From what hes saying it may be possible, but a huge PITA to actually get off the ground. Just for curiosity, why dual boot anyway? (Phone wise) i do on my computer but for phone never really saw a reason. Just thought i would ask.

Options from Stock to AOSP possibilities. I would much enjoy being able to switch back and forth, even if it's between CM10 and AOKP, without the hassle of having to backup, restore, etc. And from what I've heard of dual booting on Android devices, the apps stay up to date with eachother. Like data from apps, and text messages will carry over etc. But I may be wrong.
It would be nice to be able to have a stock image as well as your favorite rom so for GPS issues and prl/profile issues you could just boot back to stock real quick, update and then be on your way.
Dual booting is possible.
If the I9100 developers can do it, so can we... We just need a kernel that makes this possible.
Here is a link to the Siyah kernel which has dual boot capabilities.

And please, don't be an idiot... DO NOT FLASH THIS ON YOUR EPIC 4G TOUCH!!!

Mattix, I googled and found that, that's what really made me think it's possible. But our kernel is way different, so I didn't take that just as a possibility.

The hardware us the same except for the radio and nfc... We can dual boot with the right kernel.

Chris is good with that. I wonder how we could persuade him to give it a shot.
Sent from my SPH-D710 Sprint Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch
Either him or agat, and possibly get the Siyah dev to jump in. A combination of all 3 would make one awesome kernel.

Dual booting is not impossible, but the bootmanager app which allows booting numerous roms from sd would need an entirely separate app for our device due to the zImage needing to be implemented into a bootmanager specifically for devices with zImage kernels. Combining it into the existing version is impossible due to the boot from sd function needing

I believe lithid-cm already started to work on it indirectly. By indirectly I mean they need a working AOSP kernel/build first. So that's what he is working on right now. I believe the kernel is giving them issues.

I rocked Miui on my OG EVO 4G almost exclusivly.
Having finally jumped ship to a stock phone (I rooted ;-)) there are some concerns with going back to miui:
1) NO 4G!!!
2) On Evo, there was no 720p recording with Video... I'd hope we can take advantage of our 1080p cameras!
3) DATA WAS SLOW
That's it... If those 3 things were fixed I'd be happier than a stuffed pig!!
MIUI PROS:
1) customizable like no other!
2) smooth
3) Clean UI
4) overall fun to use
T-Mobile sgs2 has miui and cyanogenmod... what the ****? Where our roms??

All I can say is patience... It is a little dis heartening I will say though because it took the Vibrant nearly a year to get a stable version of CM7 on it.... But Koush is working on the EpTouch so all I can say is its only a matter of time and patience.

LOL, if we had a DEV from CM that had this as a personal device we would be rockin CM7 already. Being that we dont and all of our CM support is being done in spare time by one CM DEV at a time, it will take longer than usual. Rather than having that ICS ROM bounty we should pitch buy a CM DEV a device for his/her personal phone, lithid for example

Yeah, it will probably be a while before we see a beta or alpha rom. It will probably be January or longer before a stable ROM is available.
Better luck on the Nexus S 4G though, or maybe even the Evo phones since they have worker CM and AOSP kernals.

I can say that it probably wouldn't be that fun of an experience... The E4GT doesn't use a boot.img like the Evo does, it has ramdisk and zImage separate. Samsung modems and drivers would take some work. I believe it uses BML and not MTD.
Not saying it is impossible, but at the very least whoever took that up would have a huge challenge.
I've been around for a bit from the tmo dash to the touch pro to the evo and soon to the epic touch. I have a few questions which i hope some of.you can help me with. Does this have the same weak radios and horrible battery of the ns4g? And what's with all these build numbers fh this and that? What would changing the modem do? Is cwm still the most popular recovery? And finally, it has ics on it so will I be able to root?
I have been trying to read but I'm getting confused. I was able to only update the radios, rom and kernel now there are all these options.
Thanks in advance for any useful info

I got this from a friend who is getting an iPhone. He just had his S2 replaced like a month ago so I get a new phone for cheap. Im holding out my upgrade for a quadcore phone. I refuse to go with the LG only because I dont think the developer or factory support will be there. This should make my wait more bearable with my huge leap from NS4g.
I have jelly bean right now with everything working ok (except the massive battery drain) on my NS4G. Anything close to that on this phone? How is the developer support? Im coming from a phone with ok support and maybe like 3 choices that are updated consistantly.
Yes all modems are compatible with any rom and we have cm10 and aokp versions of jellybean. The brick issues are much much less now that we developers have identified the problem and made safe recoveries. Don't flash anything in stock recovery.
