[Q] Rom reccomendatioin!!!!!!! - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I need to migrate to JB but am unable to find any compatible rom. I am using Bell version I747m. Please any suggestions. Currently using kyan 1.5
also would like help with updating CWM, currently using 5.0.4 version.
Merci!!!

First question would be do you want Touchwiz or more of a pure android build (jellybean without touchwiz)? Anything in this forum (the AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus section) should work on your phone. Just be wary of flashing modems, they are carrier specific so you should only flash modems for Bell. Here is a nice summary of available stuff for you.Included in the link I gave you, recoveries are also covered including the newest cwm, Although might I suggest giving twrp recovery a try. It's a great touch based recovery with many more options than cwm. The only hiccup with twrp is finding your internal sd card which is located at /data/media. Here is link to a post in the twrp recovery thread that has a cwm flashable version of the newest twrp recovery for ease of installation.

Thank you so much jethro650 I am trying trwp right now wil let you know how it works. As of for the roms I tried few miui, and some others but it always fails. I think because of the file ext .d2att. I think it does not recognises it. Any suggestion or am I doing something wrong?

I think if you install the latest recovery either cwm or twrp you'll find flashing rom's easier and less errors. Some of the earlier versions of cwm looked for a file in your build.prop and if it wasn't right you'd get error status 6 or 7. It was a failsafe so you couldn't flash the wrong version of a ROM. Now that its known that AT&T, Bell, Telus, Rogers can run the same ROM recoveries are a little more lenient in that respect.

Thanks so much I just installed twrp and m loving it will try again(faster thn cwm). Trying ARISTODEMO rom right know. hopefully will work.

yes my firend u were right updating recovery does work and new rom is running smmoth thanks once again..

My daily driver
Tried this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869300
50GB in dropbox for international version , configurable toogles, super stable. That's my daily driver so far, more features look in the changelog in their website.
I came from Kyan to this rom and is worthy.
Hope it helps,
It's jeally bean by the way

My daily use build is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869300.
It has proven to be stable with only a minor glitch here or there. You can also use Mobile Odin to flash ROMs if you like. I have used that and CWM with succes.

Thanks ATS2 trying now, the serenity dg

Assert Failed when Flashing CM - Telus SGSIII

My friend Bought a SGSIII from Telus, i hope to get one to if this all works, and we were using the Android toolkit 2.3 to get Clockwork and TWRP onto the phone which worked(we tried both and got errors which ill show in pics)
When i copy the latest CM nightly to his SD and try to fail, i get this 'assert failed' error. Screenshot attached.
Current its on stock and rooted, but thats as far as we can go.
IS there a fix for this? I flashed using the latest toolkit.
Also, i cant seem to find a definitive answer on these forums regarding this, just alot of uncertainty and different opinions.
1.) Is there any harm in flashing a Rogers modem on a Telus device, or vice versa, wouldnt that just convert the phone into another carriers device since they carry it to.
2.) Are there ANY restrictions on what can be flashed, i realize 90% of roms will be AT&T, is there any chance of bricking by using this.
Thanks!
Update to newest cwm, or use twrp
Open the updater-script and delete the first few lines which check if you are flashing on the correct device.
Alternatively, you can just change your build.prop to "d2att" and it will flash. I'm pretty sure that the i747m will run the i747 ROMs, as long as you have the right radio flashed.

Steps were
Use Tooklit to Install TWRP and Root Phone
Download a build.prop editor and change all d2can to d2att
Reboot phone
Install goo manager, menu button, install recovery script(should install the d2att one)
Reboot into recovery..flash CM
CM's self updater works after this cause i think the ATT boot loader is on there. Very good stuff!
You COULD maybe skip alot of it, and install the ATT boot loader from the toolkit, but this is what worked for me on 3 devices(coworkers/mine)
Or, you could have used ROM manager to upgrade to cwm 6.0.1.2 or newer.
Rpm manager supports sgs3? I was under the impression never use rom manager from s2 days.
Suped up S3
It works on s3. I've used it a couple times. Worked great on my old Inspire too.

T999V-Wind Mobile-TWRP problem

I've tried 2.7.1 and 2.7.0 of TWRP for both Tmo and the Canada version they have, they all install fine, but when I try and do anything, it can't mount any partitions, so I can't wipe or install anything. I am rooted with the root66 of the latest Wind firmware.
Any other wind users know a good working TWRP ?

Are you running a custom rom and/or kernel? Im wondering if this may have something to do with selinux. If not using one already, try flashing an insecure custom kernel. You might also want to try flashing CWM, just to see if it has the same issue.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure, I'm only running stock+root from the root66 package for the MK5 ROM for my phone from Wind in Canada. I tried installing CWM and it ran the first time, tried clearing cache to see if it had any permission/mount errors, and it froze, pulled the battery and wouldn't boot anymore. Had to reflash root66 package to get my phone to even boot. Rootchecker says I'm rooted fine, SU gives permissions to everything fine, busybox is fine. Donwload mode shows security bit disabled, so the root66 disabled knox. Not sure what to do try next.
EDIT
Installed CWM from ROM-Manager, and it worked, installed liewise ROM and it's working fine. I unno. lol.

Sorry that caused you so much trouble. When you are booted into recovery though, whether or not the rom is rooted makes no difference. What is important here is if the kernel is secure or insecure. I am still fairly certain selinux was causing you your problems with mounting though. If you are running any rom based on my Sprint ND8 port (such as likewise), you shouldn't have anymore problems (if I am correct about it being selinux of course). The kernel included has selinux disabled. Glad you got it working though.
Just curious, what do you mean by download mode shows security bit disabled? I think you might mean selinux? The warranty bit, which is often referred to as the knox counter cannot be disabled and is actually separate from Knox itself. Removing knox is something done only in the rom, not the kernel, and has no effect on what is shown in download mode. Also, selinux is not knox, they are two different technologies. Just fyi for future reference.

Ah. Maybe I was looking at the QualcomSecureboot or something
Either way, all is good. Not sure why TWRP gave problems or CWM did via Odin. I'm using likewise rom, which is based off your sprint so shouldn't have any more problems now anyways. Not a stranger to flashing Samsung phones, just my first newer samsung flash with this whole knox/selinus thing and all that. My old sammy S 4G was flashed hundreds of times while I worked on ROMs'. lol.

Be careful with that! I always advise against using it because it is very rarely updated, the op does not provide any support for it, and it has bricked several devices.
yes i forgot that in my post i always back ups of everything before i do anything.
i have also fixed bricked devices befor also but ya you have to be carful tho.

How are you trying to install TWRP? There are several ways to do so. Odin, recovery, Goo.Im app..... You can get the twrp files from my sig if you want to try those. No guarantee you will be able to unlock when flashing the 4.1.1 modem, let us know if it works for you.
I had tried TWRP through Odin flashable and also Goo Manager. I tried 2.7.0 and 2.7.1, both Tmo and Can version, and none could mount anything . CWM through Rom Manager works great though.
I know, from my experience working on ROM's and getting the first Heimdall flashable package to upgrade the Galaxy S 4G from Wind, that the Wind models of phones are slightly different than the Tmo versions. It took me a dev a while to find the right files, lots of soft bricking ,etc, to figure out the minute difference to allow Heimdall to flash a package, and even then, Heimdall could never flash a modem to the 4G-Wind Variant. I even tried working with the Heimdall dev to find out why, and never could. Modems would flash from CWM or TWRP, but not from the PC, even though Tmo firmwares and ROM's worked, so maybe the Wind phone is slightly different in partition layout that CWM can adapt for, but TWRP can't. Maybe I'll contact the TWRP team and see if I can help them figure out why, although now I'm working a lot more than I was and don't have a lot of time to flash my phone 100 times and brick it and flash again like in the older days.

As far as partition layout goes, all of the T999 and I747 variants are the same. I believe the Sprint and Verizon ones are as well, but am not 100% confident in that. You said you tried the d2can and d2tmo versions, but what about d2lte? Everyone should be just using d2lte now as ALL the S3 models have been consolidated into that one. Where did you download it from btw? You can get it from the link in my sig. I know for sure it works. (I think I still need to add 2.7.0.1 though. But 2.7.0.0 is there.)

I looked in your sig but don't see a D2LTE TWRP, only the 2.7.0 TMO one, which I downloaded from the official TWRP site, as well as 2.7.1 and neither worked. I also tried installing from Goo Manager. Maybe I'll try yours since it is a CWM flashable zip as opposed to an odin tarball and I have CWM working

[Q] Rom for Gs3 t999l LTE TMobile??

I have just rooted my phone, but CyanogenMod Installer didn't support my phone. I have done research, but seems like there isn't much out there for the LTE version. I am a noob pretty much, just feels like I wasted time to root it. Also I don't want to brick my phone either. Thanks for the help.

Ok you have a few options. 1. Use the root66 stock/rooted/knox-free rom/install method by Doc77 (great job doc77) 2. CM 10 or 11 4.4.x custom rom flashed with custom recovery. 3. Or use odin to flash roms/mods the most comfortable method for you and your experience is up to you ALWAYS read the thread thoroughly and ASK questions if you need to before trying something without understanding it LOL I learned tje hard way lol good luck and have fun.
The vest way for the T999 and T999L for root is to Towelroot, then flash recovery in Android via Terminal or a software method. Do not use Download mode with a custom binary if you cab avoid doing so.
He said he already rooted though, so we are last that point anyways. Any ROM labeled D2LTE or D2TMO will fully work with your phone. Stay on the NC2 baseband and flash as preferred. I have found SOKP to be amazing but battery life suffers some, otherwise as a newer user to Custom Roms, Beanstalk Carbon Omni or the proper CM are great in different ways but stable SBD very approachable. Flash through TARP and follow thread instructions.
Trouble with CWM Recovery
I installed clockwork recovery and when i go through the process manually it just goes back to the original menu, also when I try to load a zip file it says failed to mount SDCard. Should I use another recovery program? Maybe I have the wrong version, but I can't seem to find one online for my t999L running 4.3. Also I can't seem to find any other mod except for CM for my phone, which I heard there are camera issues and not very stable. Hope that info helps : )

I have read through many threads, but not sure what's going on?? I go to restore and it's blank to select anything to backup. I look at the log and it just says unable to mount to pretty much everything. It's rooted and it just seems like from reading this phone is harder than others to flash, at least from what I saw. I'm at a loss right now.
I was more referring to what you said about installing cwm and it booting stock instead.
As for mounting problems, try cwm or philz recoveries instead. Not sure why twrp does that for some folks. The T999 recoveries are recommended, but if you want to try the T999L version, I'm pretty sure you can get that from their website. (You might want to send them your recovery.log to see if they can find why it's having problems mounting partitions.)

Need some help

I got a g pro given to me. AT&T. I want to root and put a recovery on it.
Towelroot, and then the apk with recovery package? Thank u guys
Here's a picture of what I have.
Run towelroot, and if that works out, go to the play store and download freegee to install either twrp or cwm recovery, your choice. I don't know what is in the TWRP folder, probably the flashable zip file. GPRO recovery is probably the stock recovery. I'm guessing the plan is to have you get rooted first with towelroot, then run GPRO_Recovery, and flash TWRP zip file. That is way too cumbersome, download freegee, run towelroot, then run freegee and choose your recovery, and you don't even have to leave.
OK. Cool bro. thank u my dude. Also what roms can we run? Any suggestions?
Ok towelroot did work! Bout to run freegee
Ok I'm good to go. Got twrp, backed up my stock setup. What Roms are we able to run on AT&T variant? Thanks for the help too. Appreciate it.
Can the TWRP recovery b updated once it's on my device? I noticed the one freegee provides is an older version.
Cm11 and vanir are two of official released ones you can download. There are many unofficial released ones (somebody takes the ROM's source code and compiles a workable ROM for lg ogp, but it's not affiliate with the ROM's Dev) you can download from the xda forum's optimus g pro development section. If you're not sure which ROM to get, I suggest you start with the official released ROM.
Regarding the twrp update, yes, you can flash twrp that comes with your phone if it's newer. Also, you can try download the latest version from their web site, and flash it with twrp you currently have. I'm not familiar with twrp since I'm using cwm. You can also get the newest twrp through these two apps: ROM toolbox or ROM manager. Just make sure you don't pay for the twrp if either of those apps ask you to buy it, because it's free.

I don't think you'll find a newer TWRP for that phone. It will, however, work just fine for most ROMs.
Recommended:
Pac-man ROM is the nicer of the US/English CM roms I've tried.
If you don't want a CyanogenMod rom, then Bountyman's G3 or VUPMP G3 roms will be great: both are better than stock. I've had better luck with stability with the VUPMP; mileage is variable etc. and whatnot.

can't get a rom to load, probably a newbie think on my part.

Now that i'm in the correct thread.......

when you install stock rom through odin. it removes everything. everything means your device is as new as you bought it. so when you installed stock rom, it always removes twrp and installs stock recovery. same goes with any custom rom you previously installed.

now sadly. the twrp version you mentioned above is for n9005 international version while you're having n900t (t mobile version) so you'll need correct twrp the says "tmo" or something like this.
above i said you might be installing wrong version of rom because you're not using correct twrp and pretty sure about it. thats why i assumed you may also have d/l wrong version of rom.
long story short : you need everything regarding tmobile (tmo) not any other. just in case please check if you really have n900t or not by taking out battery.

now sadly. the twrp version you mentioned above is for n9005 international version while you're having n900t (t mobile version) so you'll need correct twrp the says "tmo" or something like this.
above i said you might be installing wrong version of rom because you're not using correct twrp and pretty sure about it. thats why i assumed you may also have d/l wrong version of rom.
long story short : you need everything regarding tmobile (tmo) not any other. just in case please check if you really have n900t or not by taking out battery.

after installing the correct twrp, I was able to install Lineage, thanks for the help. I have a better idea of what I'm doing, I'll continue to play around with it.
