I was wondering if anyone knew anything about us getting S-Off because I really hate not being able to switch between rom backups on the go because I have to flash the right kernels.

but you can't if they have a different kernel needed for each
your right about not being able to swap kernels on the go.. that does need S-Off, but I usually dont change Roms on-the-fly...
Apparently according to kim9988, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902578 some roms do actually come with a kernel flasher....

i have had an idea but chances are it wont work, once i have the time to get it finished and tested ill know for sure, but if youre desperate find a phone shop that has a riffbox tool, they can s-off/supercid a one v via jtag
What is a riffbox tool
Sent from my One V using XDA Premium HD app
its a jtag box for reviving dead phones, but many htc phones are supported by usb alone, no soldering or jigs required you just have to jump the Vdd test point of the emmc to a ground to reset it into qualcomm dload mode (so youll still need to crack your phone open) theyre not terribly cheap mind, around £130, so unless you have a few friends who need supported phones s-off'd and chip in on it then its probably not worth your while unless you REALLY want it. just google for riffbox and im sure youll find it

lol.
you are the guy who did knew about rooting and stuff..
1. rom = OS a.k.a android
2. cwm = is the name of a custom recovery
3. you've just answered yourself at number 2 with this.
4. the best developers gathered under one roof which is called Cyanogenmod. They make Android OS'es. Search on google, they have a website.
5. Kernel is like the motor of the OS. Without it, the rom will not start.
6. stock means default. if it refers to stock rom it means the OS that came with your phone untouched by you in any way.
7. nandroid backup performs a backup as per the name, of your current rom.
Quick reply.
1. A ROM is the operating system of your phone... Like windows xp is to a computer. you can change this and try different ones.
2 & 3. Is a Recovery from there you can do functions that are necessary to flash ROMs Kernels and even backup your phone
4. A ROM made from the released source code from google... All Vanilla which means that it doesnt have the HTC overlay.
5. A Kernel is the underlying software that communicates with the hardware of the phone in this case
6. Stock means that it has not been modified.
7. A Nandroid is a function that is incorporated into the Recovery it allows you to backup the system in your phone so you have the possibility of recovering it at some other time.
You have a lot of reading to do... The learning curve is steep; start climbing

Probably better to point him to the original link...
Dictionary for n00b - What is.../What does ...mean?
As to the antennas, the body is metal so they have to put the antennas behind the plastic parts so that the radio signals can get through. The only solution is to change your grip so that you don't cover the bottom of the phone.
Is it possible to dual boot my one v [cdma] phone? I would like to have the option of either booting into custom rom or just stock.
As of now no not for us once we get s-off then it will be a possibility. The closest I can get is duel profile which is not duel boot

S-off is another way that HTC has there phones locked it controls alot of other options to total phone control some phones with s-off have full boot screen customization, we can change our booting img. But with it off that stupid HTC devoloper screen with the red letters can be cuatomized... even to make it look like a non boot loader unlocked phone. I even read a post a few days back that said it will allow for us to us the phones internel storage instead of the roms storage space it will even allow us to compress the storage space our rooms take up..... and even heard that this phones 0.89 g storage internally is really a 1.5-2.0g storage used up for ota updates and other HTC crap so THANK u HTC for a way to only give us half run on the phones but there r a few good ones working on it.... it will be soon just stay patient.
Hit thanks if I help u in any way........ :[

My HTC One V phone is not booting up. I dont even know if its charging or not because LED lights is not present. However when I plug it to a computer its being recognized by the computer by giving out a ding sound like when you plug in a new device to the computer.

Hey guys..
Straight forward question..
Is it possible to password protect our Download and Recovery modes?
And i mean when you press and hold vol dwn+home+power method. Not through the android software reboot menu.
I want/like this idea because if someone were to steal my phone. They would NEVER be able to flash a custom ROM or even flash a stock ROM img. They would be completely locked out making the device useless to them.
The only way i think they could get past it is by using JTAG to overwrite the download partition with a stock one. But hardly anyone has a JTAG device.
Well this would be awesome. lol
Have at it
Im guessing it would require a modified bootloader. Not really sure though. Ive wondered about this myself. Never seen it done though.

I think it would be the ultimate level of security. And i agree a modified bootloader would be necessary. How one would go abouts creating one i am clueless.

As am I lol! This ones a bit above my skill level!
Problem is, itd have to be redone for each model. Unless there was a way to have sonething that could sit on top of or intercept power on and run before the bootloader....I really have no idea though, just tossing ideas!

that is a great idea indeed.:good:
Very interesting topic, but I think it is impossible to do (Recovery & download) are design to prevent forgotten password issues.
What a pity
Guys i thnk if it can be done
It will be easy to install it on our devices if rooted (stock android)
As companies like sammy ,htc have diff kernals
I thnk we can successfully do this fr nexus ,micromax ,karbonn etc.....
Lets have a try
Ny one tried this before
If so plz gimme a guide of it so that it will b easy fr me
Lemmi try my best fr us to have ultimate theft protection on our android devices
I hope if it wrks google may add it on its future devices
The "ultimative" protection would be:
When a phone is stolen, you can remotely trigger "the suicide button" xD
When it is triggered and the phone receives the command (Even if the phone is running other ROM) it reboots the phone and erases the Bootloader and some other things that are important for the phone to work.
Best. Protection. Ever.
Second thing I could imagine is that phone companies could protect the download mode with a password (12 digits or so).
That password will come printed on one of the manuals when you buy the phone.
If you attempt to flash an image in download mode, you will be prompted for the password.
And, optionally, if you put the password 10 times wrong, it will erase bootloader and etc.
Third idea: The download mode only will prompt for a password (printed on the manual), if you atempt to flash another ROM on it... Because this will change the confidential signature that the old ROM has passed to the download mode.
(I am not sure if this could be done. I'm just saying ideas...)
Hey Guys. I've just got my One V's Main Board changed for quite a huge amount. (Accompanied with screen, battery etc)
My phone now is with unlocked bootloader, rooted with Custom ROM installed.
I've read about this QHSUSB_DLOAD problem, that the phone suddenly goes off on it's own and then this problem occurs. Or by pressing Vol Up + Power. Are these the only possibilities ? How common is it to have this problem ? Is this very unlikely to happen ? Sorry, I'm just a little scared. I read somewhere that this problem is sorted out on newer boards. Is it true ? And if, I, by chance, face the same problem, then will HTC repair my phone for free ?
noo..no repair work for free..
there is a very low chance that you'll encounter the problem
unless ofc if u mess with your phone
This means that HTC will charge me for it's repairs. Right ?
But it's very unlikely to happen. I read somewhere that this problem has been sorted on new boards. Is this true ?

It's true ? You mean that the newer boards have got this sorted out. I got my Mother Board replaced in Feb 2013, so I need not worry about it, right ?
And I've unlocked the bootlaoder, rooted, PA running. So if I face this problem, you mean that HTC will repair my phone for free ! .. As you said.
And one more thing - ' Long time to fix it ' ? What's the meaning of this ?
