Hi folks,
Been trying for a while to figure out a way to exclude images from my Gallery3D app (the one taken from the Nexus One) as well as certain audio files from my media player. Things like application images, battery icons etc as well as audio from SatNav were being picked up by apps that I really didn't want to have 'seeing' them.
Anyway, the way to exclude a folder is to insert a .nomedia file. You can create this using any text editor on your PC. Open a new file and save it as '.nomedia' (making sure to save it as 'All files' rather than '.txt' if using Notepad). Then copy this file to your phone into the various folders you want excluding.
Et voila! You may need to restart your phone.
Sounds like you can also use a terminal application, although I've not tested this:
cd /sdcard/(dir you want to exclude)
touch .nomedia
I saw a similar thread relating to audio, I just thought it's worth mentioning it works for Gallery too - everytime I searched this forum I couldn't find anything.
Original info: http://androinica.com/2009/08/28
Hope this helps.
rich
Instead of txt file you can also create (empty)folder called .nomedia
Good knowledge Benko! Thanks.
Nice tip. Going to use it now.

Hello,
Here is a solution for the issues with Google Music Player + Double media entries in the Gallery app.
If you see double media entries in the Gallery App and at the same time your Google Music Player doesn’t work, then:
1. Use a root explorer and delete external.db from /datadata/com.android.providers.media/databases/
2. Replace the Gallery.apk in /system/app with the attached Gallery2.apk and give it the right permissions.
3. Reboot and wait for the media to refresh.
4. Done!
Tell me if that works with you. Good luck!
N.B: I'm not used enough to this website so I may have posted in the wrong section. May a kind MODERATOR move the topic to the right section or simply close it, please. Thank you!

As rescanning all the media can take a while if you have lots of music (I got 12GB so a full scan usually takes 30-40mins), I've figured out a way to fix the issue without rebooting and without the need for a full rescan.
1. Go to /datadata/com.android.providers.media/databases/ and take backups of the external.db, external.db-shm and external.db-wal files when media is correctly scanned.
2. When this issue happens, goto Settings -> Applications and clear data for Google Play Music and force close Media Storage.
3. Restore the backups to /datadata/com.android.providers.media/databases/ and set permissions to rw-rw---- (in Root Explorer).
4. Run media scanner. (Lots of apps for that in Play Store)
5. Wait for a few minutes for Google Play Music to import the database again.
6. Done.
I don't think this works for the newly updated play music released yesterday the 18th of July? I erased my external.db files.. (they had numbers behind them not just external.db) but didn't replace the gallery apk as I am not getting duplicate gallery entries. Any one getting the new Google play music to work with out FC?

If you're like me and trying to conserve space on the internal sdcard and you use Google Music, this may really help you.
This is actually really easy.
1) Download ROM Toolbox from the market.
2) Create a new folder on your extsdcard and call it whatever you want.
3) Inside that folder create another folder and call it music.
4) Launch ROM toolbox and in the tools section browse to the extsdcard/whatever you named this folder/music
5) Tap and hold the music folder and create a shortcut.
6) Now navigate up the structure to data/data/com.google.android.music/files and paste the shortcut.
7) Delete the "music" folder (you'll need to redownload your music later)
8) Now rename shortcut to "music"
9) Load up Google Music and check "On device music" ,you will now have whatever capacity is available on your extsdcard.
I hope this helps someone. Enjoy......

I'll definitely be trying this out. Though in my opinion, 11GB of internal storage space is more than enough for cache.
Also, this thread should be moved to the Note II general discussion. Better yet, how about the Android General section, as this would apply to all devices capable of running Google Music.

This same principle should work for anything stored in DATA. This doesn't want to work with anything stored on the internal SDcard.
Why doesnt the apps2sd app work. Anyone know this? I asked earlier today in the general forum but nobody has responded. What's the point of external space if we can't use it

Not nearly enough when you have the measly 11 gb filled up. Some people like me actually use their phone and no app2sd native is not enough.
Also this guy is part of our Samsung community for some time, and he posted this in the perfect place, where it belongs.
I'm only here for my devices, I don't hang out in android general. I'm sure a lot more people are the same.

i actually just transferred all my saved google music to my sd card using Directory Bind, a pretty sweet app. it essentially tricks the os and allows any system folder to be directed to a folder on the external card. this also allows you to save game data to the card and not take up valuable space.
for google music songs:
1) install directory bind --> preferences --> make sure the follow are checked: bind on boot, alternate dbase mgmt, persistent service, AND bypass path verification <--this was crucial to making it work
2) add new entry, manually type this in:
source (data) path: /storage/extSdCard/**make up a folder where u want the music** (i used DirectoryBind/GoogleMusic/)
mount (target) path: /data/data/com.google.android.music/files/music/ (this seems to differ on older versions of Play Music, and also other devices? maybe.
transferring the data from /data/data/com.google.android.music/files/music/ to /storage/extSdCard/DirectoryBind/GoogleMusic/ didnt work via Directory Bind but I took care of this manually with Root Explorer.
after you add the entry, the diskette looking icon should be grey and after you tap on it, should turn green! Green = good. works for me, let me know if directions are misleading...

I'm getting some odd behavior with this...DirectoryBind seems to be working, and when in Airplane mode, GoogleMusic sees files in the extSdCard folder and recognizes files as saved, but after I play the tracks they reappear in the /data/data/com.google.android.music/files/music/ folder! So after I play the tracks both this folder and the Google Music folder on the extSdCard are the same size? (Before playing, the internal data folder showed as empty.) Any thoughts?
Also I don't seem to be able to use the folder shortcut method with my extSdCard. Rom Toolbox gives me an error that it can't create a shortcut there. (My extSdCard was formatted on the phone, but not sure rt now on exact format type)
Just here to say hello to Rob!! Hope all is well

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work for "relocating" folders that live on the internal sdcard (/sdcard | /storage/sdcard0). Pasting the shortcut results in "operation failed."

I'm on non-touchwiz, Carbon ROM. I followed the instructions exactly as stated in the OP. Everything worked flawlessly.
The only place I seemed to be able to find my saved google music was in this directory
/data/user/0/com.google.android.music/files/music
Like the title suggests... Can you move a folder or even select multiple files? Moving one file at a time is a PITA!
I can't find any threads on this topic on S Beam on here or Google.
Thanks ahead of time guys!
Are you talking about just moving folders around on your phone? Or actually trying to share an entire folder with someone? I know I could never figure out how to share an entire folder with someone but I use astro file viewer and can move folders around on my device.

what I've done in that scenario is use root explorer to make a zip of all the files, transfer via BT, then unzip and disseminate on the receiving end (also using root explorer). Not the fastest, but it works easily.
I've sent multiple things by just pressing and holding until they're checked and then do the whole sbeam thing... I've only done this with pictures though with my girlfriend's S3 and my N2...

Make sure you use an ICS version of Google voice and not an older one. I'm order to sync with gvoice on ICS with a ROM that wont have a registered number you would had have to have already synced with a number before in the past. It wont verify it with just your Google account like it can on a GB version.

I upgraded from an ics rom to a jb rom. I didn't have a problem with Google Voice not working though. I just downloaded the app from the playstore and logged into my account. I'd say make sure you have the right gapps flashed for your rom and check the voice settings on your computer or something to make sure your phone that you are using is showing up there.
For me Voice is pretty buggy and slow; I don't particularly like it. So there are probably other/better alternatives out there if this doesn't work for you

Yes there is a simple fix for this download zip flile wwwmediafirecom/download/utzkqffj8bbk0cm/Add_communications_to_Uberdriod_rc3_and_add_gvoice_and_make_it_work.zip
unzip to sd card and install all apks inside "luckypatcher and romtoolbox lite" is optional i used them to install them as system apps but u dont have to.
chromebookmarks has to be installed and the mms and phone and contacts and contact storage and talk and telerphony apks must be installed for gvoice to work then u can use romtoolbox to convert them to system app if u wish so they dont talk up space on sd or exsd.
if gvoice still fc after these steps go to setting then apps then go to google voice then clear cache and data then restart app but still one problem not a big one but all ur contacts must be backed up to sd card easy enoght to do that use current andriod device go to contact app menu select import/export and choose export to sd and then transfer the .vcf file to ur evo and then go to the contact app i just provided u in this post for ur evo and click menu import/export and choose import this time and ur good to go should automaticly find ur vcard '.vcf' file on sd.
this should work for u if u have any questions feel free to ask...
and to the responce to others who answered this question b4 me this issue has nothing to do with witch version of gvoice is installed there no way to download wrong version from google play u can only download the version for ur os witch in this case is andriod 4.0.4 ubersonic rom
and u have to register a number with gvoice apon signup so that absolutely makes no sense.
this issue is caused by the fact all communication apps were removed so when gvoice go to sync up messages and voicemails it also looks for new messages in stock mms apk and stock phone apk and voicemaill apk and uses telephony apk also so when it goes to sync u will get a force close if all apps i provided are not installed. Your Welcome
{NOTE} mms apk will still force close there is no way around this no cell signal and sprint service files are not present is the cause
Ubersonic RC3 Google Voice fix
Here's how I got Google Voice working on this rom:
1.) Download Ubersonic Rom and copy zip to desktop.
2.) Download Ace ICS v2 rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777815 and put on desktop
3.) Download 4.0.4 Gapps package 20120429 from http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps# and put on desktop
4.) Using Winrar (associated with .zip files) open all three zips and place so you can access each one.
5.) Select the following apk's from the Ace Rom App folder and drag into the Ubersonic Rom App folder:
Contacts.apk
ContactsProvider.apk
MMS.apk
TelephonyProvider.apk
VoiceDialer.apk
VPNDialog.apk
6.) Select the following apk's from the Gapps App folder and drag into the Ubersonic Rom App folder:
ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleTTS.apk
Talk.apk
7.) Copy the Ubersonic Rom to your SD card and flash as usual. If all goes as it did for me, Google voice should run without crashing. Now all you have to do is install your preferred app to make and receive free Wifi calls and texts. (GrooVe IP, TalkaTone etc.)
I really love the concept of this rom. It resurrected my retired HTC EVO 4G and gave it a second life. I did add a few apps from the PlayStore to it to make it a little better (in my opinion) which I'll list for you in case any of you are interested.
