Why even Root a Perfectly good phone. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I have Rooted many phones mind you. Starting with the Windows back in the day. I must say that I have never been happier with a phone than I am with my Samsung Galaxy s III. Just curious as to why you would want to root Perfection? This is the first phone I have owned that I have never rooted. My wife is happy none the less because i am no longer sitting in front of the PC day in and day out changing my phone settings.
Anyhow, thanks for lettng me play devil's advocate.:good:

Titanium and nandroid backups. Plus the stock jellybean leak .
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah, TB restores, root only apps, better kernels and removing the bloat-crap, primarily
Flashing ROMs is secondary

Odex Blue allows me to enjoy everything in dazzling blue.

AdFree, DroidWall, Titanium Backup, WiFi Tether, CatLog, Swype Beta, etc...

Better Battery, performance, mods, themes, bloat, hacks, speed, updates, etc etc etc...

Jelly bean leaks! That's reason enough for me especially since JoshBeach just released an update for his amazing Jelly Bean Jelly Bomb domination ROM! Tons of amazing roms and mods out! I couldnt help but root but like you said the phone is amazing rooted or not.

you answered your own question by stating "perfectly good". we make it great.

As good as this phone comes out of the box, it can be so much better. I've already put one of the JelllyBean leaks on mine and it's far better than ICS stock. Plus, I love being able to customize the look of it....just my opinion.

Because it's none of sprint's GD business if I want to watch netflix, hbo go, surf the web, or do anything else that I would do anyway, on the bigger screen of my tablet when I'm on the road.

I found another reason to root a "perfectly good phone" last night. For the past few days I was getting strange instances where the phone would seem to freeze up and then I would get an error of "Unfortunately, TestService has stopped. [OK]". I also noticed that I could no longer copy / paste text.
It seems that there is a bug that can cause the clipboard to become full or corrupted. There are only two known ways to correct the problem:
- Factory Reset,
- Empty the clipboard folder (Root required)
I am relieved that a maddening few days is over and my phone is working normally again.

Angry nerds are angry.
I'd actually just flash Juggernaut as Team Kang removed all bloat for you and lets you reinstall those you may want again with Bloater (installed after you flash).
Its a very good rom and you have nothing to lose since youre already rooted now.

Dont listen to them, its a good valid question....but I would say you use your own judgment, Use TB to delete or freeze apps you dont think you are not going to use.
If you do a search there is a post,I don't remember where, but it has a spreadsheet of everything you"need" for the phone to work. Everything else is only needed if it pertains to an app you use or need. You will have to do some reading, it is an apk spreadsheet. It will answer your question better than me trying to type the 40 things I delete on almost every ROM. In fact I would love to see some of these new roms come in a "vanilla" form, and then I can add what I want. I came from the international version of this phone, so I am spoiled with all the development..

Well now that you're rooted why not flash a rom?
Most roms have all the unwanted apps removed already.
Another way if you're not sure is go to your app drawer, find the ones you don't want and just freeze those.
Example: I don't use Media Hub, T-Mobile ID, All share, Wifi Sharing, etc. So I go ahead and freeze those.
Its all personal preference.
Good luck.

I would use eaglesblood. It is vanilla. Or at least I think it is he uses launcher2 with his own tweaks. I love eaglesblood donniqcc is one of the best devs out there in my opinion. It is by far the best ROM on the G2x I was soooo happy when I saw that he made one for the sgs2. The only thing is it is still in the early stages I think only version 1.0 right now but he is working on an update I cant wait. He is supporting 3 phones so it will take some time but once he gets goiong there is no stopping him. But it definitely has a vanilla feel to it.

I am not being rude or anything but eaglesblood is not vanilla. I looked at his rom, all he did was take the stock rom and place Launcher2 inside. A true vanilla rom is built from google source tree (AOSP) and takes a long time to build from. The closest thing to vanilla is CM roms which still are not even vanilla because Cyan puts his own stuff in there. If you want to know what true vanilla is look back to the phone that started it all the G1. That phone is a true vanilla phone. He does have a great rom and I agree for somebody who wants no bloatware they can try that. But yo say its vanilla is inaccurate. Sorry completely off topic, didn't mean to sound rude just clearing things up. People use the term vanilla rom so loosely these days....if you have been around since the G1 you know what vanilla.

Debloated Original ROM

Hi guys can you tell me please if there is a ROM that pretty much stock but without that ATT garbage, rooted and may be with few tweaks but pretty much stock ROM ? Cause I am having all kind of little issues with CM10 ..but I just love GUI and stuff ....anyone ?
Thank you !
You could always just root, install titanium backup and uninstall the bloat yourself.
But did you check the development thread?

Yep! Just curious, what issues are you having with Cyanogenmod 10? I'm using it and is 100% better than TouchWiz stock without the bloatware.
Thank you for your reply and actually I kinda lost this topic I created. Now I had few months with my phone and here what I can say including your question on what issue I had. Well first of all there are simply 2 things that I just love in stock and REALLY love to have them on my CM10 or other it sound silly but it's a weather widget and original ring tone I mean it sounds idiotic but I simply can't find this widget on it's own anywhere. I spoke with some guys in IRC channel and he gave me 27 step instruction on how to extract widget from original rom and then make it work on other roms and then actual install ...well I stuck on step 3 so .... never mind that. But I really want to have it on my screen. And that ringtone I can't find it for nothing, I searched here and torrents and everywhere I could not find it. So if someone already extracted that widget that'll make my live so much more. Now to bit more serious stuff. It been some time and I don't know about fresh versions but one I installed when I wrote original post I had major problems with games, frames in games were much lower than on original rom, many times once game is installed in Play Store and you start program and it trying to load actual game data I'd get error message saying device could not be identified download failed, one example I remember is Order and chaos actual game installed in Play Store yet when I started it game gave me error about unknown device, also MX Player had some problems with playing some mkv that I have when original rom no problems ..and other small things as well. Like I said I have not tried it for some time but if someone can point out that widget and ringtones from Original i747 that'll be really nice. And very important game performance. I just load Most Wanted on the phone and I can "feel" it game pulls every bit of cpu and gpu out of the phone cause I can see frame rate and as smooth as it should but game graphic is amazing on that game so don't know.
Anyhow that's pretty much it, once again thank you for your answer and may be someone can point something out for me or give me advice on good rom for games and that damn widget I like so much.
Thanks guys !
I manage to get ringtone name: "over the horizon" all version on internet are not the same as in the phone, similar but not as good. And here is screen shoot of widget I am taken about ... I really like it

I honestly dont go to stock but i remember seeing a apk for the widget im pretty sure if you didnt remove that you could reinstall that on whatever rom you chose
I use intergalactic v1.1. Basically stock plus some tweak. I came from cm10 too but need the all share cast function. Will switch back to cm10 when 4.2 is ready which includes the miracast stuff in default.

Hi guys !
For past several weeks I've been using CM10 ...then they released 10.1 and everything stop working. I had a lot of problems with core apps like play store ,. Bluetooth and alarm and my games crashed a lot as well. I switched to .....pink unicorn and it actually working pretty good, they now have OTA, then for some reason my Order and Chaos start to crash all the time and I had no choice to go back to vanilla.
Thank you for that intergalactic ROM I have not tried it yet but as of 1.6.13 you still think it's good ? I really can use something like that. And in general what's new in Original rom - garbage scene ....is there something new beside intergalactic ?
Thank you !

Since Roam Control seems to be defunct should we offer a bounty

It seems roam control is defunct (based on lack of basic response and updates), but I see no reason reason another developer could not step in and offer a viable replacement. Should we put together a bounty and hope to entice a developer to design a replacement app? I am sure their are enough sprint users that would kick in.

I wish there would be some headway on this. There's been some change in the past two days that leaves me with 0 signal in my office and, of course, it won't stay on roaming and keeps bouncing back and forth. I don't know if they're having issues at this one tower, or if they have changed the direction of the antenna, or what.
I was looking for this as well to get my phone to force roam in places I got bad service. I had the app on my EVo, and EVo 3D and got spoiled. My service sucks at work and home even with the Airrave. This is what I did and it works for me.
- download this Hidden Menu apk View attachment HiddenMenu_No_Root.apk and install it
- download this zip View attachment Modded_VZW_PRLs.zip
- Once you download the Modded Verizon Zip. Extract the files. Rename the PRL that says 00002 to Test.prl. (Feel free to try other PRL's. Just posting what works for me). Use Move or Copy (My Files stock app, Astro, or whatever you use) to put Test.Prl on root of Sd Card, (not ext card).
- Once its on the root of the SDCard storage turn off your wifi, and your data.
- click on the Hideen Menu app (apk) you downloaded and installed already
- tap launch settings> ##DATA#Menu>View>PRL Write.
- After you tap PRL Write the phone should reboot.
- After reboot Tap Menu>System Settings>About Phone>Status and you should see this below

PRL should show 2
If it does you are now roaming. If it doesnt. Then try again. It usually works if data and wifi is off. If your looking to go back to Sprint. Just update your PRL the normal way. This wouldnt be considered "on the fly" like the roaming app, (without a reboot) but its fast, close enough and does the job for ME. If this is a repeat of what everyone already knew, ignore this obviously. This is for ppl that may not know or the search button isnt working for you.... I'm using Jelly Bomb btw. I know it doesnt work on AOSP Roms. Dont know about the others.
**I'm sure everyone knows the consequences for roaming too much on Sprint. I actually had my account terminated before for the same. Which in my case worked out. They terminated the contract but not my line, phone number or account so I was able to come back as a new account. May have got lucky. Dunno & dont want to find out. I try to use it just AS NEEDED and go easy on the DATA roaming as well. I monitor my bills just to be sure.. Dont get lazy and leave it roaming all day everyday because your content with having service everywhere like I did. Take it off when in places you have Sprint service.
Hope this helps
So................ I am in the middle of building my MC2 H20 ROM and I will see about putting this in my ROM maybe as a toggle option in the dropdown, and in settings. I will see what time permits. If I finish the rom before this is complete I will focus on this.

Extreme Bloatware Removal 4.1.2 Stock ROM Best Battery

I love the Note... the big screen, powerfull quad-core processor, 4G LTE... Huge 3,100mAh Battery... I like Samsung TW too...
But yes, that is all i use my phone for... CALL/TXT/WEB... VIDEO/GAMES PLAY... DOWNLOAD FILES AND MOVIES...
I dont use S Pen, dont make sketches or notes by hand, dont use Swipe or WiFi calling, I only synch my contacts with Google... nothing else... so i dont need any other features/elements of the stock 4.1.2 TW ROM so i deleted everything that isnt of use for me and that i know it wont crash the OS or give me FCs of the stuff i use...
Makes the ROM small and snappy, and gives me exelent battery life, almost next to none battery drain...
So before you bash me, consider that there are mybe other users just like me that dont need all the extra features running in the background, and want the best possible battery life...
I am posting screenshots of 4 pages Titanium Backup w the elements my ROM runs, 39 in total only, when you first load TB on a stock ROM it will read 250+ elements !!!
Before you freeze/delete anything, please make sure you wont need that service... for example, dont delete GoogleCalendarSynch if you use the calendar to make/synch notes and appointments...
You need some basic knowlege of what is what, and just freeze first and see if all your things you use are working properly...
I just decided to share the minimum elements to run properly the stock ROM and get the best battery with close to none drain when you dont use your phone...
OK, here is how my Titanium Backup looks like after i deleted every single element i do not use:

Hah yes sold the Blaze $170 got a nice Note 2 w 32GB card for $340, call it a good deal time to get me some LTE goodness i thinks haha.
I even factory reset the phone after deleted everything... to clear the caches and stuff...
Works just fine, the only thing i notice, i had to go to the Mobile Networks and change the APN name from the etc one to the fast, as i deleted all the pre config things from the ROM i assume it wasnt set automaticly, so phone didnt conected to the network automaticly...
Not sure if it was for the note 2 or note 1 but it was an aroma flash file that let u delete all the bloatware
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
this is really useful. good to know that all the com. stuff are useless and can be frozen. was there any list you went by to see what each element is for? i remember there was a list available when i was using the s2, but haven't seen one for the note 2.
does anyone know which ones are needed for wifi calling? i need to keep those.
and also my phone keeps thinking it's new and keeps giving me info on how to swipe to unlock phone after every restart, is there anyway to stop that? i removed most of the stuff like the op, but is having this issue. pretty much my only problem aside from wifi calling.
This interests me greatly and i'd like to know if you just freeze the unused apps or completely un install them\
EDIT:
nevermind no one answer that i figured things out sorry
So is it a list that gives whats safe to unistall i would to try this as well

Just setting this up in my note to see if it does what it claims
I'm not a fan of battery saver apps at all so I'm skeptical right off the bat
but this is from xiam... and it's free... and it has some interesting stuff packed In there so what the heck
it takes 4 days of "learning mode" before it starts battery savings based on your usage
anybody made it thru the 4 days yet?
I see people in the comments going from 10 hours to 18 hours battery life with moderate use but that doesn't make sense to me... This app looks like it's constructed to save battery when the phone is not in use and I don't really have that problem... i lay my phone down at night with 97% and I wake up in the morning with 96%.... how you gonna gimme 30% increase on 1% drain?
But I'm still curious anyway...
Thanks for giving it a test run for the rest of us. Looking forward to your results. I'm using Greenify now so a comparison would be cool.
Also if the guru works with system apps as well.
If something is too good to be true... It usually is?

This is pretty awesome. Not going to lie

Going to try it out also, I'm tired of my note dying when I'm at work.

I'm assuming we should check this if we use the module Boot Manager? And obviously not greenify it? Sorry probably stupid questions but I'm unsure.

It seemed to slow my phone down or made it laggy

Me as well, plus I suddenly had an ad video play out of the blue. Uninstalled and never had another one . Can't say it was for sure the app, but never had one before or after.

So I've had it in my Note for 2 days now... not having any problems with lag or anything like that... still showing 1day 19hrs until the battery savings kick in based on learning mode... (funny reading the comments in the play store "had this running for 3 days and it doesn't help at all!!! Uninstalled!!!"... we'll duhhhh... it never made it out of learning mode ya goofballs)
But anyways... i noticed my battery actually draining a bit quicker during this learning phase ... whatever... I'm just being patient and following the instructions and we'll see in a couple days how this plays out.
I installed also and am awaiting to see how it goes. I will post findings later also..

any updates for those that have passed the 4 day mark?
Okay I have passed the 4 day mark after installing this it does help a lil not much If you look in the apps form the aplication it only stops services on what you use the most so if yo inly open a few apps during the learning process its not going to do much but if you open every app you have constantly you will get a much better chance of the app stoping other services you may or may not need

uninstalled
Didn't do anything for me at all... but there's probly a good reason why...
i run my Note bare bones as it is... Beans ROM heavily Debloated... no sync apps running... no facebook/no twitter/no magazine etc... no location services running unless i need them for something... only thing that starts and syncs data would be an email app and Gmail ... this snapdragon app basically tries to save you battery whenever you are not using the phone but i already have mine set up to do that all the time anyway so it didn't help at all... basically just another app running all the damn time.
I would think this app is for the casual user who doesn't take command of their device in the first place (or doesn't know how) or has a bazillion things always running and can't be bothered always trying to control them all. Nothing to see here for the power user who's always on their device or users like me who stripped it all down to beast mode.

Same here for me. I just uninstalled it. I have rom toolbox and other things running also, so I am in the same category as you. It doesn't seem to do a whole ton for me and my device.
Guys thanks for the information. Looks like I will just stick to Greenify. Maybe I will recommend to my friends that don't root and know much about their phone.
