Hi I noticed that all AOSP/AOKP/CM10 ROM's have 4x the latency of Samsung Touchwiz ROM's (including Jellybean leaks) in the Speedtest application. This is very consistent, I switched back and forth between Nandroid backups in the same location 2 minutes apart and typically I get 50ms ping on HSPA/4g(LTE) where as on non Samsung ROM's it's usually 200ms and higher. Speeds are the same, just the latency is higher.
Does anyone know why that is or if it can be fixed somehow?
Thanks
I'm on aokp and I get 45ms using speed test.net app. I never tried on stock ROM.

I just flash miui from rom manager on my girlfriend G2 I'm wondering is this rom 4g compatible? In network settings it only has 3g preferred, 3g only, and 2g.

I don't know of that's true or not because in the past when I had flashed the sense 3.0 rom for her she was able to stream netflix flawlessly without buffer. Now on miui she can't even stream/connect to the video and the data seem alot slower. Our cycle just restarted so I know we did not go over our 4gb 4g data.

Sounds like a Radio issue. Make sure that Rom is compatible with the radio your using. Just an suggestion.Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Anyone experience issues like apps that use data such as Facebook, friend caster, twitter, xda,.. Such as if your viewing something it won't refresh auto or manually. And you have to reset your data to be active again..? I'm noticing it is mainly while connected to lte
I'm on tweaked rom 2.3 with the latest saber kernel 32.2 UC

For example I have on auto refresh on this app and I tried manually refreshing just now and still won't refresh.. It's like certain apps I'm having hangs on.. But open a Brower or 2 and it loads whatever no issue..
P.s.. Double posted, didn't allow me to attach image to first post

I've experienced this also. It has something to do with our phone's way of handling the high power consumption of LTE. I first noticed it using my favorite app DeskSMS, which worked flawlessly prior to LTE, now it doesn't work half the time. However, It became such an irritation I manually went back to 4G, and everything works like it should.
If I ever needed the higher speeds, I can always switch to LTE.

I figured that but it's surprising that lte wouldn't operate the same as on a 4g connection but faster..

What are things you've noticed so far in the alpha/beta builds of Android 4.3?
As of 8/10,
- (Cosmetic) I like the addition to the LTE signal. On cm10.2, the 4G icon has been replaced by "LTE". (Does not apply to SlimRom.)
- Device appears to be much, much smoother and consistent.
- AOSP keyboard no longer opens a window to save a word to the dictionary. It just does it once you hit save. (This one is a big plus for me.)
- LTE, while speeds haven't necessarily matched my Touchwiz experience, I can safely state that LTE, even with slower speeds than Touchwiz is loading pictures/videos a lot faster. It's much more noticeable how LTE connectivity has improved when going to a 4.3 rom on this device.
- Required to enable root via developer settings prior to using any application that requires root access. (This is a security feature but for someone that flashes ROMs on nearly a daily basis, it can become a bit tedious since it's just an extra step.)

Things are loading faster on LTE even with slower speeds? Interesting! Is your ping lower or something? I need to try a 4.3 ROM tonight.

Speedtest results yield ~10mbps in most instances but the overall browsing experience is much smoother. Perhaps something with the routing and such.

Some people have mentioned that there is a battery drain in early builds. Is this still true?

After two hours and 36 minutes of screen time, I'm at 89%. Been on 4G LTE the entire time.
Edit: I do have a 3000 mAh battery, though!
Battery has been great on slim it's also noticeably faster than 4.2 ... Camera is buggy as !-!311, that's really the only thing wrong with it though... My friend did just send me a file to flash to fix the camera, haven't flashed it yet so idk if it'll work or not

Really digging the aosp implementation of dialer completion. It's spot on! CM10.2 feels noticeable quicker than CM10.1. That's just from my p.o.v. though.

4.3 is running pretty smooth. Had it running about a week and really only issues are the damn camera... but that's not too big of a deal. I rarely use it anyway.

Is camera still buggy? what exactly is buggy about it? I havent tried an AOSP rom in like 6-8 months because first time I flased one my sd card got corrupt. I believe it is formatted correctly to where IT wont happen now and thinking about finally making the switch since touchwiz development has kind of slowed down recently and im starting to get bored. Main thing keeping me on touchwiz was the camera. I take a lot of pictures. Are there any other issues that would keep me from using an AOSP ROM as a daily driver? Bluetooth issues, random reboots, freezes ect...
I never had the luck of running a 4.3 build perfectly. Phone ended up crashing and getting stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 boot screen.
Latest carbon runs quite fine 8-29 nightly. However, I noticed Bluetooth doesn't appear in the toggles nor can you enable torch in the power widget. Anyone know a work around to fix this?
Hi guys,
I have noticed that my phone data speed drastically slows on any aokp/cm roms.
I was on Touchwiz rom with uvmc6 radio and then I installed cyanogenmod 11 alpha 3 and with same radio the speed went half.
Where I live here we have Edge service. On touchwiz roms I touch 20-25 KBps whereas it merely touches 15 KBps on aosp based roms. The latency is also slow.
Is there any solution to it? Can anbody tell which settings does samsung use to make it fast? Maybe i could add something to build.prop to make it fast.
Thanks

Try this courtesy of @TripFX:
Go into "Settings"
Under "Wireless & network" click More...
then click "mobile networks"
then click "Access Point Names"
click hard menu button then "new apn"
enter this
Name: T-Mobile US LTE
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Save and reboot.
Our phone can't get LTE speed but I do get better reception & speed with this.
Hi,
Thanks but it's not an apn issue. Same apn settings perform different results on touchwiz and aosp based roms. Do you think there could be any settings in some system files?

I don't know, haven't really had this happen and I've used AOKP and CM lately. Did you check to make sure "Use only 2G" isn't checked in mobile network settings? Also maybe change your DNS settings to get slightly better speed.
Ok thanks. I will give Google dns a go. Will update if find any improvements.

Maybe try the Fresh Network app on Play. I really do think the ROM flash and your speed reduction was a coincidence as I've have flashed so many ROMs over the last 2 years and never experienced that. Then again everybody can have different things happen that others never have a problem with.
Also as a last resort maybe re-flash the latest radio via ODIN and see what happens.
Thanks. I have tried those signal boosters as well but I guess it has to do this with my network may be
I also have odined back to stock and re-rooted phone and then tried cm but it produces the same results. On touchwiz roms it works very well. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help. I'm attaching my network screenshot for reference.

I'm a looking for a ROM that will allow me to use my data while I am making a phone call. It worked when I was using stock but it doesn't work anymore.

They should all do this. Just know it won't over edge, which is too slow anyway
Calling and data
I have this problem on my drive home from work a lot, with the stick touch wiz the phone doesn't normally distinguish between 4g and 3g. So if I am not calling I get "4g" all the way but when I am on a call a frequently lose data in one 5 to 7 mile stretch. Personally I like the google pay Roms. They are clean and I experience very few force closes compared to CM. GPE and CM also will show you when you have 3g or 4g (H or H+).

Oh it distinguishes it just fine, its just meant to display 4G for 3G and H/H+.. My guess is that data coverage is probably not that good in that area
Thanks.
