I'm having a big problem with my sd card: this morning I connected it to the pc through the usb cable, mounted the usb storage, and, after I finished to work on it, I've disabled the usb storage.. but the sd card doesn't work anymore on my phone.
I can use apps stored in the ext partition but I can't see all the data in the sd card, and if I try to mount the sd through settings/storage it just appears a message in status bar saying that now I can remove the sd card.. I can't even mount it into my pc..
Do you know a way to backup the data or to repair the sd card without losing everything?
I know that by repartitioning it in recovery it will work (because I already had this problem in the past) but I don't want to lose all the data.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Elia
Restart the device. It works for me everytime.
You probably could try to mount the fat32 partition by running a Linux live CD. There's also "damn small Linux / DSL" (just google it) which you can run in a cmd window from inside Windows (don't know if that will work though).
At last you could use some data recovery software - but i currently don't have any suggestions for that (long time since i used that).

There isn't the message of broken sd card. The last time that something like that happened to my phone there was that message, but now isn't here.
I will try eventcom suggestion when I arrive at home.
I had to format my sd card, ubuntu said that there was something wrong in the file system, windows didn't even see the sd card
Now I'll try to recover some of the data with GetDataBack, hope it works :fingers-crossed:
When in use ubuntu and I copy files to and from the sdcard, the sdcard sometimes corrupt itself. I don't know why, but a reload on windows with disc check, saved me many times.
Hope u got luck in trying to get some data back

Like the title says, I suddenly found out after I couldn't see any songs or albums in Winamp. Then I tried the stock player, same thing.
They're still there, I can see them with ASTRO and when I connect it to my PC.
I can play the songs through ASTRO, but when the player starts up there's no info on the song at all.
I tried PowerAmp (which does a search on the SD card for mp3s) and that works with most of the albums, some are missing cover artwork.
Also my alarm clock can't detect mp3s, same as my running app cardiotrainer. It's the same when I try to put an mp3 as a ringtone.
Firstly the standard HTC Desire ringtones could not be read either, but I got them to show up again, during my attempt to fix this, which I will go through below.
When I try to open up the mp3s through a program (custom ringtone or stock mp3 player) it says "No musicfiles or SD card is available" (translated from my Danish Desire OS).
I can't see my pictures or videos through my camera or gallery apps, but when I take a new picture it shows up as the only one I got.
-----------------------------------------------
What I've tried:
Rebooting lots of times, of course.
Changing the name of my mp3 folder.
Searching for a ".nomedia" file, or similar "." but finding nothing.
Using the app "SDrescan".
I connected the phone to my PC, right click and select properties. Then tools - error checking. Run with automatically fix file system errors checked.
It ran the error check and said there were some errors and it has been fixed. When I run it again it says no errors were detected.
Did a nandroid restore.
---------------------------------------------
Possible causes:
I am rooted, running the newest Leedroid.
Yesterday I did a complete nandroid backup and titanium backup, and copied the whole SD to my computer drive. I also wiped my battery stats.
That's all I did.
Do you tried to put some new songs to see if they appear on the music player? Maybe it is just a corrupted database for the older entries.
Maybe the stock android media scanner is broken.. Try a nandroid and a full wipe with a fresh install of your ROM, if it does not fix the problem, restore the nandroid backup..
How much % is free. This can be a problem if it's to little.

I tried to put a brand new mp3 on there, but it can't see that one either. On the other hand, when I take a new picture with the camera, that single new picture is visible.
On the SD card 3,44 GB are free. Internal free is about 71 MB, but I've done the A2SD+.
I've tried to do a nandroid restore, with the nandroid backup I made Tuesday, when it was still working.
I guess there's nothing else to try than to do a complete wipe and install a fresh ROM.
I can't really figure out why it would do this all of a sudden.
If you have a mac use disk utility to repair your card - if not format you card - move all data back on after your done - see if that works
How do I format the card?
Is it the thing where I go into ROM Manager and under utillities, select Patition SD card?
I tried to format the SD card, through menu->settings->sd card->format
After it was formatted I put all the SD stuff back from my backup on my PC, and the mp3 could still not be seen at all.
Something strange with the pictures though. In my gallery app I could see all my picture folders except for the main one where new pictures are saved to.
So I try to connect it to my PC again, and switch one of the pictures from the main folder over to one of my self-made folders to see if it would show up there.
I disconnect from the PC and let the SD card mount again, and now it's back to where I can see no pictures at all. I try to put the picture back again, but still; no pictures at all.

I have a backup of my SD and moved it all back, no problems.
The only other way of formatting I know (besides doing it through the phone) is using this guide:
1. Go into the ROM Manager app.
2. Under utillities, select Patition SD card.
3. Select 512MB for both cache and EXT3
4. This will re-format your SD card.
Is that the same (as good as) using gparted as you suggested? I don't know about gparted.

I just think that using a PC / Mac gives you more control over the format etc... linux swap etc... No doubt rom mamanger should suffice but if you do have a corrupted SD card often PC's can handle it better
Tbh if you have repaired your card that usually fixes these sorts of problems for me ... have you got another SD card to try!?

Why didn't I think to try this myself?!
I do have another SD card, and just tried it... and it works! I even tried putting in a new mp3 and it can see it.
Do you think I should just do a rom manager format, or should I jump into the PC way of a format?
I am a big noob btw, so if you think the PC way of formatting my SD card is better, could I ask you to write down a noob-friendly guide maybe?
I've just done the rom manager partition format, and tried to put an mp3 and a few pictures on my SD card, and it works!
Now I'm in the process of putting my SD backup back on my SD card, and I'll write back later if it all works after that.
If not ur card is screwed lol.. I'd be surprised if that didn't work!! Formatting usually cures SD card probs ... if u ever get read only error just repair ur card no need for format for that... just for future reference ... I'm a bit nooby too tbh, lots to learn lol

I just finished copying all of the backup onto my SD card and... now it doesn't work again!!! Same problem!
Why don't you buy a new card? I got a class 6 16 Gb for £20 ... so there cheap enough for all the hassle?
Try formatting on a Mac or PC.. I use gparted from CD I burnt but there are plenty of others around. If not tbh I'm not sure where you go from there.. if you have a backup everything should be fine lol
Edit - so can I clarify do either of your cards work properly?

Oh my god... I just found a ".nomedia" file in the root of my SD card... if that's it I will feel very stupid.
I have formatted 3 times now, transferring the stuff back again now.
Yup, that was the problem
I feel so stupid, but thanks for all your help.
LOL .... well at least you learnt something
My Phone was working perfectly with no problems! until yesterday i was out and the phone battery was about to die then the phone turned off then after i went home i plugged it in the charger and went to sleep today i turned it on and everything on it is deleted no contacts no msgs no apps and no sd card mounted!!!! im running cm7 on it and i used to use a program called simple2ext which moves everything from the internal memory to the sd-ext could it be this program that damaged everything ? tried to restart the device sd card wont mount only if i take it out while the device is running and put it back then the device recognize it!! please Help
could be a physical problem with the sd card? try another card if possible. if not then check to see if its a known problem with the rom.
copying your existing sd-ext to a new card:
you can make a backup image of your sd-ext partition using a linux terminal. (sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk2 of=/home/username/Desktop/phone-sd-ext.img) i think mmcblk2 is the ext partition. make an identically-sized partition on the new card (it MUST be partition 2). use the above command only switch the paths around.
you can also make a backup (making sure sd-ext mounts) and restore with the new card partitioned and installed. i use twrp2 and for backups i have to force-mount sd-ext before backing up
Have you tried the memory card in a PC? If you can, you could have damaged the formatting on the card (doubtful).
Have you tried another card yet, if so to what success? You may also want to try cleaning the contacts on the SD card with a clean cloth/shirt (i just use the bottom of my shirt) :good:
and it could also simply be an unclean filesystem. with the card inserted in a computer running linux, use terminal and run "sudo fsck -fy /dev/mmcblk2" (make sure the partition is unmounted)
or maybe the memory card isnt combatable?
-try use the card in other phone to see is if a problem with card.
-try use the card in a card reader to see if is a problem with card.
-try other card in your phone.
-try to clean the contacts of your card.
-try to clean the phone to sd card.
Try these steps:
-wipe everything twice.
-install superwipe tool.(this will clean your NAND)
-wipe again everything twice.
-install the rom.
I think these will solve your problem.
Here is the link for the superwipe: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598143
If i helped you, click "Thanks" button.Sorry for my English,i hope to understand what i am saying.Have a nice day !!
Matt-matt is likely correct here. Your phone likely died in the middle of accessing your SD and it corrupted the partition. Re-partitioning the card through recovery will be your easiest fix. But you'll lose all your info

Hello,
Yesterday while downloading stuff, my phone suddenly sent me a notification that my SD card is broken. I can access everything in Recovery somehow. What I've tried :
- un-mounting & mounting again
- re-flashing
- factory reset
- format in recovery
And everything that I listed above failed. When I plug my card into PC it doesn't open. My whole window is not responding. I've tried mounting it on my older phones (Nokia 2730 & LG KP500), and only Nokia readed my card, but I couldn't do anything because it was password protected. Every possible password I had for my old SD card wasn't the right one. I've already googled but nothing mentioned before helped. When I formatted in recovery it only froze. When I switched ROMs to more "original" one, when I plugged my SD card it was automatically removed. Also my SD card is EMTEC 16 gb Class 4, and just in case I have my old 1 gb sd card lying around.
There is a possibility that your SD card is damaged..........one way of trying to cure it is to somehow try to make it work on your computer and Format it............or just try to format it on the phones that it works on

Going to try format on my old Nokia. But I was thinking, if I can get my SD card to work in Recovery, isn't there anyway to connect my phone to my PC and then try to format?
EDIT: Tried formatting on Nokia 2730 - it was failure. I couldn't because of the password.

In recovery, I should press mount usb right?
Yes
I did as you said and in Partition Wizard it showed me that the whole disk is used, file system was bad disk, and type was logical.
When I tried to format it said "Windows was unable to continue formating".

I have started having sd cards issues recently... (like 1 month now)..
1) i sometimes get usb brick according to 4ext ... when i boot in recovery, it says sd card can't be mounted and i need to use the usb unbrick tool (never had such issue with cwm.. maybe it's 4ext related).. often get this when i have copied big files to my sd card or i have just flashed a new rom or sometimes without doing anything special... maybe after a black screen of death)
2) when i copy files to my sd card, it sometimes takes a lot of time (at some point, progress bar remains static) or sometimes i get an error IO device error... need to unmount and remount to my pc.... and windows asking me to scan and fix
3) i often get scan and fix when connecting my htc desire to my pc...
4) i sometimes gets black screen of death and this most of the time results in "scan and fix" message by windows when i connect it to pc..
is my sd card getting old and not working well as i used too much a2sd based scripts? or is my phone sd card reader getting defective (hope it's the first one as i am getting a new class 10 card anyway soon)
how will know what is wrong? are the a2sd scripts damaging my sd card? thx for reading and waiting for your opinions and help thx
How did you partition your sd-card?
i used one of the tutorial on xda... (the one using gparted) and i have been using this partitioned sd card for about 2 years now with no major issues... it's recently that it started to show issues.
Try repartitioning it. If it's still faulty, then change it.
ok thx will try that... but how to know whether it's my htc desire sd reader which is faulty or it's the sd card?

Try using another card afterwards. If it's the same, then it's a reader fault.
haven't try repartitioning my sd card yet.. i have too much stuff to backup.. anyway is there a cause for usb brick/io errors? i got a usb brick today.. can't copy files and 4ext recovery can't mount sd card... i never got that before
please someone help...
my SD card is unusable! it works on my pc, i copy things on it, but when I mount on my phone, it has a weird name (mainly numbers) and appears empty, and when I check it on my pc it's empty too (the storage is still used up)
and i can't copy anything (says it stopped responding or disconnected).
i have to reformat it, but that doesn't fix anything. that issue still occurs

It's too weird.. i think it's the rom. because, now, i can see the SD Card's content when i mount it with a USB adapter to my laptop.
Hi
You need to go into settings on the phone and long press on the SD card and you will be able to format the card to copy to. Do not format as internal.
