hey guys, i need some help here lol..... basically, i have no idea what im doing.... i rooted my phone (evo 4g) and i have the warm 2.2 rom right now (which i like alot) i like how its all blacked out and got some transparent stuff, real clean.. BUT i HATE the lock screen.... wanna get the "ring" lock screen, but i have no idea how to do it... also i downloaded "synergy w, god mode" or something like that, and everytime i boot into recovery and try to install it off the sd card, it loads and installs, BUT when it brings up the white HTC Evo 4g Screen when i reboot, it stays there and doesnt ever boot.... ive let it set for like and hour, and it still does nothing..... basically.... i wanna know how to change my lock screen to the one in the sinister rom i think? not really sure what the name was... i think it was sinister.... it had the sweet ring at the bottom you would drag up to unlock, but i didnt really like anything else about the rom..... is there a way to mix and match? and also where do i go to find more mods for the warm 2.2 rom? i have the transparent title bar, thats it..... HELP any advice it GREATLY appreciated, im trying to learn this stuff as fast as i can, but its so overwhelming lol Thanks in advance guys!!!
Before you flash synergy wipe everything. Factory reset, and both cache. And you should use the non gmode synergy. Also look in mods in the second post of the synergy post for a transparent notification bar

Ya when I flashed it the first couple of times it just hung at the white EVO screen so I pulled the bat and wiped everything BUT the SD card and it went great. Also looks pretty good now that I got the whole 3D look going

Install the non god mode rom, god mode one isnt anything to go crazy about. I recommend baby steps since your newly rooted, so stick with what you know will be the easiest sure thing and work your way up until you are comfortable with all things Android
ok ill have to try that!..... as for now i have warm 2.2, adw launcher, and lock bot.... ill take some screen shots.... one thing i do miss is the HTC widgets (calender, favorites) stuff like that... is there a way to get these??
If you use launcher pro plus from market, it has some widgets, but not quite like sense (and i personally like ADW better than LPP). Beautiful Widgets in the market has sense-like clock widget. I never have found anything that compares to the htc mail widget, though (thats one of the only reasons i use sense a lot)
Lockring: as long as you're on synergy, or any sense 2.1/3.0 rom, youll have the lockring. There are threads (MANY) with custom lockrings to flash. And the greatest devs in the world, that even take requests
Have fun.

Using adw you have the sense Widgets. I use to use adw but since installing synergy I'm all over sense.

Hey guys, heres some screen shots.... im getting a new evo monday, cu my charging port is all messed up, i have to use a binder clip to hold the cord taught in order for it to charge lol.... ANYWAYS with that being said... im experimenting with the whole rooting thing, so i dont ruin my new one lmao... so im not wasting a whole lot of time customizing my home screen and downloading apps n junk, cuz im just going to have to do it all again monday lol.... but heres what i got so far and i think ill stick with this when i get my new one.... i would really like to find the stock "favorites" widget and calender, mail widget... i really liked them lol..... BTW i like the whole minimalistic theme.... simple=better looking IMO.....
pics are home screen, app drawer and lock screen BTW.... dont have anything on any other screens.... speaking of which... is there a way to delete unsused screens on ADW? like go from 5 to say..... 2 screens? JW thanks

What recovery are you using..... synergy requires amon ra..... if you are using rom manager .... you can switch recovery to amon ra..... flash alternative recovery at bottom of menu on rom manager.... you will be able to flash synergy thru amon ra........

hmmm.... maybe, i am using rom manager, maybe that has something to do with it? im really not that worried about it anymore....i have a decent look that im satisfied with right now..... oh yeah.... because im so new to rooting and all that stuff, if there any sweet benefits that im not hearing about? like what other cool stuff is there to do other than changing themes, appearances? thanks! lol

thats is definitley why gmode isnt booting and also i would stick to non gmode for now. themes are kinda iffy on there at the moment.
Hi! I tried a lot of roms and I don't consider myself a noob but when I flash maclaws ICS and reboot the screen becomes white (a weird effect) and doesn't boot. It happens in every version (I tried the latest six releases)
I did the usual stuff (cwm5, wipe data, dalvik cache etc) but it doesn't work. I don't know why, any idea? I want to try ICS
The first boot takes a lot of time. max 5 minutes
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
Wait for 5minutes and see what happens
the Mafia aka KASE ARe For TroLLing
I think it can be risky to wait that much because the effect is very weird. The Samsung logo fades away while the screen becomes white but with darker zones. The first time I thought it was bricked.
I searched a lot but I didn't find anything about this.
That is the new bootlogo (Not boot animation) It took mine 15min to start up just wait

Maybe it caused by flashing CWM. Try wipe data/factory reset.

Seriously, you are a noob . Reasons(Learn from them):
1)Wrong section- you put [Q] in the thread title but post it in the themes &apps section.(We have Q&A section or general section )
2)In EVERY ROM there is possibility of first boot taking time.If the animation isn't looping, how could you call it bootloop?
I do not mean to offend you in anyway but please learn and increase your patience- Dev's do a lot of work, XDA is NOT a "Make my phone neat and kewl" place.

So after a couple of hours (20+ hours ) i have used stock 4.2 with root. No other modifications.
What I think:
-excellent speed, no lag or slowdowns
-excellent battery life with the new kernel
-the colors of the screen are much better!
-lovely new camera app
Everything is just perfect. What do you guys think of 4.2?

I love it! It's really fast, smooth and stable. Not a single problem in now almost two days. I like new additions, I got used to them right away. But, I've mentioned this before, the new "recent apps" is bothering me. It's really, really bothering me. I like that I can use the recent apps button while in-app to close it, but it stops right there. It's buggy like hell and it makes me feel like I'm on a nightly ROM each time I close an app. And I preferred the transparent look from 4.1. I seriously hope they'll fix it soon. Argh.
But, nevertheless, I love 4.2 - it's amazing.

2. recent apps is cool, but its laggy. swiping apps is laggy, dont know why? hope we get the fix soon
3. power widgets at notifaction thing is not really widgets. example: if i press wifi toggle, it doesnt turn off or on wifi, it just takes you to wifi settings where you cant turn wifi on or off

of course they updated the kernel! look at the build date! and if nothing changed from the previous kernel, they could have used that one. they used a new one, and there are new changes. look at the 4.2 kernel source and you'll see
Not entirely they fubar'd the internal sdcard. Now everytime you flash a new ROM it will create a new partition in the /sdcard/ titled /0/ and you're f'd if you need a backup because thats in /sdcard/ while you're in /sdcard/0/0 :S

And you also seem a bit confused to the lock screen as well. But I'll let you figure that out

Guys I see many of you have lags and bugs, i suggest to wipe everything before flashing, that's what I did and I have no lag or bugs in recent apps or elsewhere...and I'm usually very picky about lags and framerate drops...really 4.2 is as smooth or better than 4.1.2 here...gmail and recent apps are smoother than ever, facebook feed scrolling is finally totally smooth, and generally 4.2 feels fast and solid, I see some nice tweaked animations here and there...
That being said I expected much more from the google development team, sure WP8 lacks a solid ecosystem, but the os itself has some cool features that I'd like to see on android...like the all in one chat app, or the app-personalized lockscreen...our lockscreen widgets can't even compare to that...seems like android team is out of imagination and is just implementing small and not useful things here and there instead of pushing boundaries

So...basically you want them to push boundaries but manage to release a very stable and solid ROM, sometimes as soon as a few months after the last release (4.0>4.1>4.2 in less than a year)? I somehow have a feeling if they had revolutionized the OS but couldn't manage to smooth out a few bugs, you'd be on here hating them for not releasing a stable ROM. I think maybe you should start deving and realize the time and effort it takes to bring new features with true stability.

Hi Guys,
Been an HTC guy, all my Android life. Thinking of picking up my first Sammy with the Sprint's version of Note 2. Just had a couple of questions about software and ROMs:
1. Are you guys expecting a Port or Updates from the new S4, coming to the Note 2? If so, when? Or if they've been ported already, can someone point me to the ROM or mods for those?
2. Been familiar with Sense and AOKP/CM10.1 for some time now. Never used TouchWiz. What are most of you driving with here? TouchWiz light and snappy enough with balance of pretty to be used as your Daily Driver, or are you guys AOKP kinda guys here as well? Either way, can you make some ROM recommendations for a new guy? I'd like to experience the Sammy experience, before moving on to AOKP, if possible?
Any other tips you can give me before I switch? I will be switching from an EVO LTE with CarbonROM running on it. Thank you for your time.
It's pretty much a 50/50 when it comes between TouchWiz or AOSP. There is already an s4 system dump.
For Rom recommendations I would suggest if you want TouchWiz stay on stock that's my opinion. And if you want AOSP is suggest CyanogenMod.
PAC rom is good too but for me I love simplicity. So that's why I'm currently on stock right now or CyanogenMod

I was an HTC guy before coming to Sammy. I can say I wasn't all that thrilled with Touchwiz, compared to Sense.
I ended up ditching Touchwiz for Nova Launcher and a couple extra widget paks (HD widgets for clock and Android Pro Widgets for Timeline aka Friendstream and Contact favorites).
I am very happy with this combination.

I was the same at first, but in the long run, I actually Prefer TW to Sense. By miles. Stock TW is (usually, with perhaps a small bit of configuring) faster, and makes more intuitive sense (haha).
AOSP is of course loverly, but TW has a few features w/o totally obscuring Android that I think are ok, even worth it.
Thank you everyone for the response guys!
Just was wondering that I should try out TW for a bit, since I have never used it daily before. The gimmicky features from Sammy on the S4 though... like the Camera app and gestures and eyes thing for scrolling... do you guys think those will be/can be ported to the N2?
Thanks again for everyone's input... getting excited! Just not sure if the N2 will be too much of a phone for me to hold LOL!

I too switched from HTC for 3 years.. And I can say I haven't been happier!!! Tw does take some getting used to after sense, but none the less its every bit as good as sense IMO... If I want a tweaked stock tw ROM, I suggest checking out the lab rats ROM.. Its pretty cartoonish stock, but the updater is chocked full of themes and different apps. Its been an amazing ROM. I used to be a flashaholic til the rats came my way. Not to mention they gotta be the friendliest, goofiest, most entertaining group of devs I've seen yet and as for requests, if its possible its usually pretty quick turnaround and they enjoy all they do probably even more than we do!!! Give it a shot and I can almost bet you will keep coming back to the lab!! Of course this is just my opinion, but there are many more who share it!! As well as, of course, some that don't..

Everyone,
Thank you for your wonderful responses. I just brought home the N2 and it's a MONSTER !!! LOL!
I do want to stay TW for a bit though... so can you guys recommend the most UP TO DATE, and MOST CUSTOMIZEABLE TW ROM with hopefully the LEAST about of bugs and MOST amount of speed? (LOL! I know, talk about Eutopian demands, right !?)
An example of that ^ from the EVO LTE world is Team Venom's ROM...
I will Root though, because I need apps like Titanium Backup to fully set me up on the new device...
Thank you again for all your help! Looking forward to loving the Sammy world !
And oh, for the folks saying that GS4 camera and other features are coming to N2... do you think there will be some features that will NOT work on the N2 for Hardware or Kernel (firmware) issues? Thanks again!

Thanks again for the responses guys. Tried my first few ROMs last night... JellyBomb... LabRats... Nice ROMs, but they are too "modded" and touched for my taste...
What ROM can you recommend that's kinda Stock, debloated, keeps the original spirit of Stock at it's heart, with performance enhancements?
Is Synergy a good one?
Also... what's the later build? M7 or something after that? I am forgetting the name right now ...

Hey sparytrainor,
Thank you for your response. Per your recommendation, I tried the Lab Rats ROM, but found a NUMBER of issues with them:
1. I didn't like the annoying PnB Bootanimation, and tried changing it via their built Customization app, but it just booted into Recovery and did nothing ...
2. The kept prompting an update, annoying
3. Flashlight toggle didn't work
Just seemed way too customized to me, without a whole lot of value for those changes.
I am now trying Stock MC2, Rooted and DeOdexed, but I can't seem to boot in. TWRP says, it needs to fix Root permissions at the end of the flash and in both cases (Fix or Not), the phone reboots and sits at the Samsung GN II screen...? Am I missing some firmware requirements here?
When I get that ROM going, I hope to debloat it with TB, and find ways to tweak it a bit, like find a Battery mod or something maybe...?
Thanks again for everyone reading my thread!

OK, in the updater, go into settings and select reboot type and select the recovery u use. This will fix the reboot and install not working.
Also there are fixes in the updater for all the other issue u mentioned with the ROM other than the flashligt , which I use one from the play store anyway..
Check out the updater website for previews of the mods and themes.

And as for the other issue, mine says it needs to fix root sometimes as well, but I swipe to fix and everything goes fine. If you didn't update to mc2, u may need to. Here's a link for that as well..

Good luck to u.. Happy flashing and enjoy your new favorite phone!!!

Thank you again, friend, that seems to have worked !
Couple of follow up questions:
1. In the LabRats ROM, if your Swipe to Capture function working?
2. Is there a "safe list" available for the apps I can uninstall to de-bloat?
3. If you run into a faster, less bulky ROM, please share with me , thanks!
Actually that goes for everyone else, as well. Please share your thoughts and inputs if you happen to have some cool ROM recommendations for TW ROMs that are the lightest and the fastest an least buggy !
Thanks guys!
You'd have to search around for a list of what can and can't be removed.. Or u can do like I did and make a backup so if u remove something that breaks the ROM, u can restore ur backup in twrp and be right back where u started..
Swipe to capture has to be turned on in settings. By default it is off.. I used it to take this screenshot for u..
As for a debloated ROM, you might do well with nowiz aosp in development section..can't get much more debloated than that..

Couple of questions bro:
1. What's the eye icon in your screen shot in the notification bar? I never get that...
2. What theme are you using? Link to that theme and other cool ones like it? (I love Red themes )
3. As for the swipe to screen, I've had the right settings enabled, but for the life of me, I cannot get that feature to work ... Even tried it on a friend's stock GS3, nothing. Saw videos on YouTube as well, mimicking the same thing, still no go ... wonder what's up?
As always, much appreciate your kindness and help !
We can help a lot more if you post in our lab rats thread.
I removed about as much as I could without complaints. I personally would remove more, but I wanted to keep the users happy. I would remove s voice, email, calender, Google search, Google now, voice recorder, and voice search. Themes are in the updater and screen shots are on our Web site. All PATB can be removed via the updater.
The eye is smart stay that you must turn on. Flashlight works perfectly fine for everyone else as well as swipe to capture.
Thank you sparytrainor!

Hey guys, I'm not sure what to do next. I recently flashed in Jedi Master 14, which I'm loving, amd decided to be ridiculous and theme the entire phone to Star Wars, or as much as possible. DD gave me a Yoda shutdown anim, and I used the in-house boot animation installer from Rom Toolbox to change my boot animation.
Which led me to my sounds. Figured I'd start off easy with the lockscreen sounds, replce the watery splooshes with saber deactivation/ignition. So I did a bit of research amd figured out how to do it.
Found the files, that was easy. Also found an app to convert my downloaded mp3s to oggs, changed them, copied out the original sounds, put the new ones in, chamged the permissions to match their neighbors, rebooted and tested. Silence. I just also tried changing ownership so both list as "root," same as the other oggs, rebooted and tested again. Still nothing.
At this point, I'm wondering about file size/length, but my digging has yet to give anything about that. Do I need those, or at least the sizes, to match the originals? Any help or advice would be awesome.
Tl; dr, I broke things help.

Hmmm. This isn't something I've seen yet. How would I go about doing this?
"I'm" what? Did you get attacked by ninjas midpost?

I get attacked by ninjas all the time. I have 2 small boys (ninjas)
You'll find the option to fix permissions in a menu someplace after you boot to recovery. In twrp it's under advanced. Not sure about cwm

Ahhh, I understand. I have the same. How old?
And thankee. I found the command, backing up first, just to be safe. If this works, I'm going to be so happy.
And on that note, Pandora just starting playing Alestorm. This is a blessed venture, I think.
Backup finished quicker than I thought. Still no dice. Any other ideas?
2 boys 5 and 6 years old.
Unfortunately I'm out of ideas

Aaaah, nice. Ours are 6 and 2.
And I also somehow managed to break the lmt service...which I rely heavily on. So now I'm flashing in JM16 and leaving those sounds ALONE.
Yeah, right, let's see how long THAT lasts. Ill just be more vigilant with backups.
