Unlocking breaks 4g data - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

For some reason when I unlock my nexus it breaks my 4g data. Using GNex toolkit, right after I unlock, I reboot back into stock 4.1.1 and get the 4g symbol and some bars but they are white and I cannot browse or get email or anything. Why would unlocking break 4g data? Should I do it some way other than how GNex toolkit does it?
Also, relocking it using GNex toolkit doesn't fix 4g data.

And I dont think it's the tower I'm connected to because I've had this issue at home and at work, 5 miles apart, so definitely different towers.
I also tried wugfresh nexus toolkit and it breaks after unlocking using that as well, which is no surprise since I imagine they use the method.
I did get a ROM installed that worked and I have a backup of it ([ROM]JRO03O 4.1.1 Stock, rooted, deodex, busybox, zipalign + MODs), but I just don't understand why other ROMs aren't working.

locked or unlocked... doesn't matter.

I don't understand it either and I agree it shouldn't matter, but I've done it multiple times now. 4G data works fine with 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 stock, but as soon as I unlock it, the 4G data doesn't work. Aside fro gnex toolkit and wugfresh toolkit, is there a different way I can unlock it to see if that makes a difference?

you mean the right way, fastboot oem unlock.

ADB via fastboot oem-unlock, but try forcing 4G by calling *#*#4636#*#* selecting phone information, and changing the radio from CDMA/EvDO +LTE (auto) or whatever to LTE.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Look, I'm not a dev by any stretch of the imagination, but I have had 4-5 android devices and have unlocked, rooted, installed ROMS, etc on all of them tons of times, when I first got the Nexus it was fine, I probably installed 10 ROMs before I started having this issue. I can't imagine it's Verizon or we would hear about it, but I have had 2 nexus phones with the same issue, which, since I'm in tech support, means user error, but I am really at a loss and desperate. I guess I can run stock, but for someone who usually like to try 2-3 different ROMs a week, that will be hard.

From stock 4.0.4 with working 4g data, I did the adb fastboot oem unlock. It unlocked it, then I rebooted and data was broken.
Well this is weird, I reset my phone back to IMM76K (locked and unrooted) using GalaxyNexusRestoreVZW, I have 4 blue 4g bars and data works, but when I *#*#4636#*#* and look at Set Preferred Network Type: it is set to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL). My other choices are WCDMW preferred, GSM only, WCDMA only, GSM auto (PRL), CDMA auto (PRL), CDMA only, EvDo only. However Network Type: is LTE:14. That doesn't look right does it? Should there be GSM options and shouldn't there be LTE options? First time I've seen this screen, so just wondering.

Yes. I have used the 4.0.4 IMM76K and the 4.1.1 JRO03O radios from the [Radios][VZW] ALL the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Radios thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890585

here's an idea. flash to stock this way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
stop using a toolkit.

Just found this and it installed 4.1.1 unlocked and the 4g data is working now.
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-toro-primelc03.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-toro-i515.fg02.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio-cdma radio-cdma-toro-i515.ff02.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot -w update image-mysid-jro03o.zip
Then I rooted, renamed and installed cwm.
Now, after making a backup, I'll try to install a couple of ROMs, which in the past has also broken my 4g.
Still same info/options after dialing *#*#4636#*#*

Just installed latest XenonHD vXV (07.10.12) and Codename Android 3.6.6 [JellyBean] [10/04/12] ... both no 4g data. ugh!

Guys I really need some help! ASAP

Ill get right into it.
I'm trying to unlock my boot loader using The 7.4 Gnex Toolkit but under phone model and build my phone is not shown.
I have a WHITE GSM/HSPA+ MODEL running OTA 4.0.4 and the build number is IMM76K.I950WLD2
I did some research and it seems that I have a korean version of the device.
Im on t mobile btw ($30 4G plan)
Which build should I click on in the program. obviously I can't click on the Verizon one
Help
When I hold down volume buttons plus power it shows : MAGURO as the verdant name name also I don't have wallet installed
Don't use toolkits. Unlocking the boot loader is the simplest on this device. Google how to unlock galaxy nexus boot loader. The one from the droid forums is like the first one. Has a step by step.
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus
Maguro is the GSM version, so you can choose any GSM is think. But indeed if you're not sure, don't use the toolkit and unlock manually.

I had the exact same problem when I got my galaxy nexus. Please note that the build number IMM76k is a software build not a MAKE of the phone. Your phone is gsm. Now all you simply need to do is change the build number to Google stock. I change it to IMM76i. So using gnex toolkit v 7.4. Choose the right build for your phone NOW which is IMM76k . I believe it is number 12. Then unlock the boot loader by choosing number 3. Then choose number 9 which I believe downloads and extracts and flashes the Google stock image. You will then have the build IMM76i on your gsm phone. You then simply using gnex toolkit v 7.4 do the things you would like to do. Rooting, flashing and the rest. I now AOKP installed on my galaxy nexus Korean variant. Hope this works for you too.

No, don't do this.
Option 12 is a CDMA device, bad idea doing CDMA stuff on a GSM device.
Anyway, doing a "fastboot oem unlock" command should not do anything to the device other than nuking all your data.

No service, no APN options, etc.

Okay, so I unlocked, rooted and flashed my Galaxy Nexus (4.0.4) last night (it's Toro if that helps) and it does not get service.
When I flashed to a custom ROM I wasn't able to even access the APN.
I tried AOKP and Black ICE.
I go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> More... -> Mobile networks ->, after which there is no option to change the APN.
If I revert to my stock ROM, I have the ability to change my APN but it won't save after entering the details.
I cannot get service on my stock ROM anymore, meaning that my phone is basically a brick.
I have searched for this error on these forums and online and cannot find a solution, hence the reason I am posting here.
Would un-rooting / re-rooting / re-locking my phone fix this / these error(s)?
Has anyone even heard of this before?
Thanks friends. xoxo.

Wait, your phone is Toro (CDMA) and you're trying to mess with APNs (a GSM thing)? Something not right there...
I would completely flash your phone back to stock to rule out the possibility that it's a firmware/software issue.

[Q] Can't Connect to Mobile Network after Custom ROM Flash

Hi all, so I'm in quite the predicament. I can't seem to reestablish a mobile connection via Verizon at all since I've overwritten the stock ROM with Cyanogen. I have Inc2, now loaded with CM7, awaiting some help.
First I unlocked the bootloader and flashed CWM Recovery.
Next I flashed Build 4 CM10 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934288 <--check it out here.
I couldn't establish any network connection whatsoever. So i wiped and flashed CM9 with the hopes it would be more stable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932573 <--again check that one out.
Again, no network connection. Lastly, I reverted to CM7 (because it was the last stable release directly from Cyanogen). http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/index.php?title=Vivow_Info <--looky here.
I've searched far and wide, trying everything possible. From simply switching on/off airplane mode to manually typing in the Verizon APN. I just can't establish network connection now...and the kicker - I forgot to backup the stock ROM so I'm currently stuck. Please help
This thread may be of some help. Didn't do me much justice however. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691017

Have you tried changing your mobile network? Settings > more> network mode
Been there. You can try different radios from here, but BE CAREFUL. Take the following precautions:
Because you're on Verizon, only download 'x.x.01.xxxx' radios.
After putting the ZIP file on the SD card, verify the MD5 hash to ensure the file didn't get corrupted during download or during transfer to the SD card.
Plug the phone into your charger before installing. You don't want it shutting off during install.
Don't flash the same radio that your phone already has installed.
If all else fails, try the stock 2.3.3 RUU from HTC. If you can find a working download link to that, please share.

I've tried everything in the books. Manually setting my APN according to the Verizon settings. Also did trial and error booting and rebooting each network type to no avail.
A few things I noticed in the CM9 ROM (maybe bugs?):
The preferred network mode typically defaults to GSM/WCDMA upon reboot
The APN I create often disappear upon reboot.
Mobile Networks>Network Operators will either search endlessly or sometimes find both AT&T and T-Mobile as options, both of which won't actually connect as I have a Verizon SIM.
And in response to Slinkwyde:
To verify the MD5 hash, what needs to be done more specifically? (I'm learning as I go ) Did flashing a radio do the fix for you? I'll try this suggestion and post results.

Yes, flashing a radio worked for me. The simplest way would be to use an MD5 checker app. Use the app to make sure the file on your SD card matches the MD5 value given in the radio thread I linked to.
One more precaution: Don't ever flash the same radio version that your phone is already using. That caused problems with the original Incredible and might also cause problems with the Incredible 2. To see what radio version you have, go to Settings and look around in About phone, Phone info, or something to that effect. "Baseband" is another word for radio.

Short version: For Verizon, you want CDMA with EvDO.
Longer overview: CDMA vs GSM, and what it means for the Incredible 2
Verizon Wireless and Sprint use CDMA. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. CDMA is popular in the United States, but around the world GSM is far more common. All GSM phones use SIM cards, but most CDMA phones don't. The two kinds of CDMA phones that do have SIM cards are world phones (phones with both CDMA and GSM) and LTE phones (faster data speeds).
The Incredible 2 is a world phone (without LTE) and comes with a Vodafone SIM for overseas travel. This Vodafone SIM also has Verizon Wireless branding on it. The Verizon Wireless company is jointly owned by Verizon and Vodafone, a European carrier based in the UK. Verizon world phones have to be unlocked to use AT&T or T-Mobile, because Verizon doesn't want their customers switching to a competitor.
SIM cards make it easy for GSM users (not you) to use their carrier account in another phone. They can just swap the SIM. For CDMA carriers (such as Verizon), swapping service to a different phone requires contacting the carrier.

Okay so what you both are suggesting are to just install the firmware, assuming I am already running the CM9 ROM? Because the firmware includes the radio. And this is done by renaming the firmware to PG32IMG and flashing it through hboot? Would this be an easier course of action than installing a radio alone? My phone is S-ON and if I'm correct, S-OFF needs to be active to install a radio.
Yes, you can install the firmware to get the radio, and the file name needs to be PG32IMG.zip for hboot. S-OFF is generally required for this sort of thing, yes.

Also, I may have a potential reason as to why I'm having this ***** of a problem. I originally unlocked bootloader using the HTCdev tool. At the time it was my understanding that the process did not matter as long as the results were the same. However it seems now that using their tool makes it so you can't flash radios and need to extract and separately flash ROM kernels. So does this mean flashing any of the CM ROM's I tried never included the radio portion?
Just stabbing at ideas. Feel free to verify/call me out.

Roms NEVER include a radio, its always separate. something weird has happened to you, I'm sure flashing new radio would fix it for you but you're dev unlocked which is gay Lol. When you flashed the cyanogen ROMs did you pull kernel and flash like you were supposed to, if not i can't believe you got it to boot but that may be a problem also.

Because I HAD (I actually just reverted back and am currently getting S-OFF to flash a radio) the HTCdev unlock, I manually booted the boot.img after entering recovery and wiping/formatting all the necessary things. Skimming the video might give you a better idea.
However I'm now hoping S-OFF will allow me to reroot, flash CWM, CM9, and of course a radio. Currently in the process of trying to run Revolutionary.

[Q] No sim/service After radio flash - Galaxy Nexus Sprint

Please direct me to a thread that explains this if it exists. I am not a newb to flashing but still lack some knowledge about it.
I unlocked my gnex, flashed twrp, flashed superuser, then flash the jan 14th nightly cm10.1 which worked well for me.
Then i decide that i needed to flash a radio for some stupid reason(obviously the wrong one) leading to an endless battle to retrieve my connection.
I used odin to get to ics stock. I am running ics stock and still no service connection. I can see my imei but..... network, mobile network type, my phone number, min, prl version, and iccid are all unknown.
EDIT:
I flashed a different stock rom from odin. Stock ICS. Then flashed the radio that came with it and now..
Voice calls work though i feel like the reception sucks
Sms works great as far as i can tell
4g works great
3g doesnt exist at all.
I think i may just be missing the radio for 3g. (cdma?)
Im afraid of flashing anything before knowing what will actually work but i need 3g.

After getting it mostly working with ics I flashed cm10.1 but did not flash another radio.
This confuses me because i thought i needed an updated radio to go with the updated rom. From ics to 4.2.1.. But instead of needing another radio it worked the same as it did with ics.
Is the ga02 going to be what i need with cm10.1? Also does it work better from fastboot or twrp? Does it matter if i flash a cdma or an lte radio first?
Ga02 is not needed but it's the latest radio.
They all work but different people prefer different radios.
Many are flashable using twrp. Just got to find them.
Also make sure the radios you flash are for your carrier.
Hello all. I bought Galaxy Nexus L700 a few days ago. It was used.
And I have a problem now. After it boot up, I have a message "no SIM-card, No Service" After I change Mobile Network from CDMA to LTE/CDMA and back to CDMA I have a signal. But no 3G.
I know that this issue is available at Verizon Gnex until you insert SIm card. I'm confused because there is no SIM card.
Does anybody know how can i fix it? I tried flash factory image from link above, but with the same result.
Please, help!

Voice calls work though i feel like the reception sucks
Sms works great as far as i can tell
4g works great
3g doesnt exist at all.
Im afraid of flashing anything before knowing what will actually work but i need 3g.

What Stock ICS did you used? Could you give me a link, please?
And how about SIM error now?
Did you find out how to fix 3G? I think you need to get login/pass from carrier.

[Q] Note 2 does not work ATT To T-mobile, wife's iPhone 5 works fine

Hi,
I have note 2 from AT&T at 4.1.1 with I317UCALJ2 and I took t-mobile connection, I can not have mobile hotspot on. Also I get call drops and less 4G connection as compared with my wife's iPhone 5, she is having consistant 4G and mobile hotspot. I called t-mobile they changed my APN settings to fast-t-mobile.com, but it did not work much, then I was reading a forum and I dialed *#2263# and selected WCDMA ALL (when I did that my APN in the settings changed back to epc.tmobile.com). Now I am getting 4G band but still no mobile hotspot.
My phone is unlocked, I unlocked my phone using the key combinations posted in this forum last year. What should I do to make my phone more usable?
Thanks
sounds like some software problems try more roms..

I am not rooted and I have the stock ROM. Can someone please guide through the process?
Don't check CDMA all. Check LTE and then make sure you use the fast.tmobile.com SONg setting

I tried, still no luck

I tried that, still no luck, should I put any custom ROM? if yes then which one?
No rom yet....
Since you are changing carriers entirely...have you cleaned the device to make sure no bad data is present ??
I would suggest doing a factory reset to clean the device....
Then enter in the T-Mobile APN again and test...
If the process does not help ...a new or different modem may be needed to improve your signal...
All of the steps to do this are in the general and development sections...and you should begin by searching and reading the steps....
Go slowly...until you understand the process...and only then should you attempt any flashing....
We will be here to help....but you need to learn the process if you intend to flash files to this device...
Start in the "everything" thread in the general section....
It covers the basics of root and flash procedure...and how to avoid mistakes that catch several people...
And do not update your device via OTA...
It will give you a Knox bootloader...and that is not good for users...especially new users to flashing...
Read much....learn much...and only then should you flash....g

are you seeing LTE signal? if not, then you are on T mobile's legacy 3g or possibly the reformed 1900 hspa. Since the phone will not get 42mbps hspa, your speed maybe a bit lower due to 21mbps hspa. I am using the phone on t mobile network and do not have issue. i did have the latest att modem. When I was on the 4.1 rome, I did flashed the latest modem before the 4.3 rome.

I unlocked the phone, I also have supersu and triangle away on my phone. I do not remember what all I did. But I am on 4.1.1. If I do a factory reset, will I loose everything meaning unlock etc? Or should I install a modem? If yes then which one?
If you are ready for the 40 mbps hack....here ya go...
If you have a PC and a few minutes....this link will get you on track ...
I use ATT and have never used this method...but many have...and report proper speeds after unlock to TMO...
Good luck...g

factory reset should not change your unlock. The phone should stay as SIM unlocked (if that is what you meant). Once it is sim unlocked, it will stay as unlocked. It should not affect your root either as factory reset (though I am not 100% sure since I have custom rom so cannot remember if stock rom will remove root). Often it is best to stay with the same modem as the rom version. Here is the link to the modem list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987541
I have the latest one but I am using 4.3 rom. I cannot recall which modem I had when I had 4.1.2 rom so do a bit search, but I think it is the MJ4.
