When ever I attempt to start my Kindle Fire(It's rooted, with ICS), it sometimes will not boot. However, on rare occasions, it starts up. I go through the FFF loading screen, get the booting splash screen. I get to my lock screen, and boom! It shuts down. Repeat..
Also, I do get stuck at FFF's "CHARGING, LOW BATTERY PLEASE WAIT" screen. Now, I'm no expert, but it seems like it's not charging properly. ATM the screen is on, but it's blank, the power button is orange, and it's charging via the stock charger. I've tried many things like what kinfauns said here. When I plug it in, I get nothing, no lights, screen off.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
You posted in the Kindle Fire HD thread instead of the original Kindle Fire thread, so expect it to be moved soon.
Hold the power until the device completely shuts off.
Plug your USB cable into your computer and then your device.
As soon as you plug the device in (it will power up automatically), hold the power button until it shuts off again.
Then let it sit for half a day or more and see if you can turn it on. If so, continue to charge it normally.

Oh, I'm sorry. When I plug it in, it doesn't start up at all.
It sounds like you're having more problems than just a dead battery. When you turn the device on, exactly what happens?
[Edit:] that is...from a completely powered off state (not sleeping).

It won't even turn on. Let' say I leave it plugged to the stock wall charge, after about an hour, it'll turn on, boot into CM9, and then shutdown. Some times it goes to the FFF screen saying "Charging low battery, please wait". I did talk to Amazon over the phone, they're sending me a brand new KF free of charge. They don't know I voided the warranty on it

I've been having issues with my battery holding a charge (stock except for a temp root to instal gapps). I contacted email support and they said to call in, soundsl ike they might replace it. Do you know if you're getting a new version? I'm assuming so since I think they stopped building the old version. I'm wondering if they'll let me pay the difference for an HD upgrade.
When you get it to turn on and you see the Kindle Fire screen, hold the power button until "recovery" is selected at the bottom. When booted into recovery, let it charge there. You'll be able to see your battery's percentage from there.
Do not send the old Kindle back to Amazon. Shady moves like that screw it up for everyone. Take the KFHD for example. There is a device with so much potential but it has been crippled, assuredly because of ridiculous amount of people who have broken their devices (due to their own actions) and sent them back under the guise of being under warranty.
It's just bad practice IMO.

Okay so basically my Fire is rooted and currently running gedeRom latest ICS rom. It comes on to the blue kindle fire intro screen with the power button green NOT orange. It turns off by itself literally after two seconds. It won't charge via usb or the original wall plug. Let me clarify what I said last.... basically the power button doesn't light up at all when I try to charge my kindle fire. I can't access recovery or anything for that matter because it shuts off so fast when I try to turn it on. My battery did die before I can charge it, but as of right now the damn thing doesn't want to charge and I think it is fully charged at the moment regardless of whether it lit up or not. Every time my Fire is dead it shows that animation screen that tells you to charge it and not that blue intro screen. At this point I really need any assistance I can get and I am more than happy to upload a video of the fire or whatever because at this point I am absolutely clueless. The computer does not pick up on the Kindle Fire at all even when I try to turn it on and plug it in right after. Nothing happened to the device or I didn't try to install or flash anything. It simply just died from no battery left and now the damn thing is giving me more trouble than I have encountered previously. Please if anyone can help me or guide me through this I'd really appreciate it.
Your version of FFF should help prevent that. Have you tried leaving it plugged in with the stock wall charger for a few hours?
plug in to wall, this turns on kindle so then it goes in a power loop due to flat battery. the answer is, plug in to mains charger then hold power for over 20 seconds, this will turn off kindle but should leave it charging. next leave it overnight. ie. a good few hours
edit. the led is sometimes missleading, ignor.

Thanks guys that is exactly what I will do and I will report back if it worked or not. Once again I really do appreciate you guys taking out the time to assist me in this issue that has never happened before. At the moment I am currently working on a HTC flyer I just bought from a friend and now I have to find the HTC Scribe for cheap somewhere lol. Take care.
Still not working...
I can't access anything (Tried so many times to get into recovery or something that I lost count at this point) because it shuts off so fast. At this point I know for certain it is not a problem with the battery not being charged, but in the same breath I know for certain that I have never had a problem like this that was so extremely problematic. At this point I have lost all hope and think it is messed up even though it was working beautifully on Gederom's ICS rom before it fully died. I charged it for the whole night and now it won't show a charge light when I plug it in to the original KF wall charger or it won't link up or charge with my PC. It also won't turn on when I have it plugged in to the OEM wall charger and it doesn't light up when plugged in to charge. I do have an actual video of me with the device showing exactly what happens when I try to turn on. Just go to my youtube channel under the name fatjoejr2001 and watch the latest video I posted. If anyone can please help me get on track I would really really appreciate it and would be extremely grateful. Thanks
power it off and charge it via usb with your computer it will take some time so set your computer to not sleep while you charge
from whst you sre describing it acting like your battery is flat. (i know you say you used the stock charger) sorry to ask, but are you sure, does it say 1.8A on it?
can you use your charger on another phone etc (to test it).
the only other thing i can think of is your bootloader is screwed ie fff.
can you catch fastboot in the time its on?
type fastboot getvar in a terminal from where ever you have fastboot installed on your pc
it should say "waiting for device".
then switch on kindle. does it do anything in your terminal?
if its not the battery

Yes I am a 110% sure I am using the right charger and I cannot access recovery since it shuts down so fast. It doesn't show up on my PC when connected via USB and it won't turn on when either plugged in to wall charger or to my computer. I can't use Kindle Fire Utility or any such methods when the device will not function while connected to my Windows 7 desktop. I am just completely oblivious to what is going on because I have a htc flyer and Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 and nothing like this has ever happened where I can't recover some how. What can I do at this point? From what I am hearing people think it may be the bootloader, but how do I go about fixing this when I can't even access anything on the Kindle fire????

I've tried and to no success. I charged it again last night and am currently charging it again with my PC, but I know for sure that isn't going to work and that is not what is causing this issue. My device was working fine till the battery fully drained and died. Now it is just non-functional. Maybe I didn't have the proper TRWP installed for ICS or the right bootloader?
ok if its dead you should try the fire kit
but it involves making a ubuntu flashdrive and booting with a script on the root of the flash drive, then taking off the back cover and shorting a pin out instide whilst inserting the usb cable. it sounds scary but its not too bad if you follow the instructions exactly.
(no shortcuts).
i will dig out the thread for you.

if you need any help let me know where abouts you are in the process and what is going wrong.
this will work as it doesn't even need the battery connected.
it resets your partitions, reinstalls twrp &reinstalls fff.
hope this helps

I was using my Kindle a while ago and noticed that the battery was going pretty low and not charging right. I hoped that it would resolve the problem by itself, but no. Instead, I turn it on to find it stuck in pretty much a tenth of a second Bootloop. It shows the FireFireFire symbol then goes away almost instantaneously. I cannot think of anything I have done to it. I was using Hashcode's 4.1.1 Jellybean ROM and it was working great. I have a charger that I do not know if it is a legitimate Kindle charger, but before this it was charging just fine. If you could help me, that would be great I would not like to spend another $40 on a new kindle battery. Thanks!
Leave it alone for a while and give the battery a rest for a bit. Then plug your usb cable into the computer first then your Kindle. As soon as it comes on, hold the power button to cause it to hard shutdown. With any luck, it will shut down and stay off. If so, leave it off and plugged in for quite a while; it should charge. If you can't get it to hard shutdown (keeps turning back on), sometimes heating up the battery a little will give it just enough of a boost to make it work.

I can't, I don't have a micro-USB cable and my mom won't let me go buy one...
How did you root without a micro-usb cable?
Please don't post questions in the General Section
Moving to Q&A
So I bought my Kindle Fire over a year ago before moving overseas. Rooted it with no problem, used it for six months then it started acting up. And by acting up I mean I get nothing out of it.
When I plug in a USB cable or the power cable I can't get my Kindle to turn on at all, nor does the power light turn on. When I don't have it plugged in it will turn on for maybe two seconds. It shows the yellow boot icon and says "Press power button for recovery" but then it turns itself off before I can do anything else.
At the time it all started there seemed to be no solution, but I thought now that some time had passed there may be some other options. I can't get anywhere to check anymore settings, nor does it show up on my computer not even in device manager. I've even tried the unbrick utilities but nothing can detect my Fire.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

How am I supposed to use fastboot if my computer doesn't detect my Kindle?

In some rare instances, not even the AC charger will be enough to charge the battery. Why? The Kindle Fire's hardware does not have the ability to charge its battery offline. The device needs to be up and running so the ramdisk can handle the battery charging operation and that requires the CPU to be powered up. If the battery cannot provide enough power to the CPU, it shuts off automatically and the boot process stops or restarts... a classic catch-22.

So what if I have one of these rare cases? I've left it charging for days, and am also using official amazon cable and chargers for everything.
How am I supposed to use fastboot if my computer doesn't detect my Kindle?
So short backstory, I've been loading and troubleshooting custom ROM issues on my phone for 4+ years. I'm by no means a developer but I can read word-for-word, research and follow instructions. I was given this 'bricked' Kindle Fire by a friend who knew enough to try and reset but didn't want to bother crawling through XDA to sort it out (he came across it through an acquaintance and the past history of the device is unknowable). So I figured I'd charge her up and poke around -
1. I don't have the cable the device came (or any wall unit charger) but have been using a generic micro-USB and from what I've gathered, this shouldn't be an issue. I've used it with all my other Android devices without issue...
2. While the power button's LED does light up amber while attached to my PC (back panel USB, of course) it never seems to actually charge. I've let it run all the way down to where it wouldn't boot at all, then connected to my computer overnight and the next morning it still flashes low battery. Oddly, while the amber light stays lit while plugged in, when I press the power button it somewhat randomly will actually give me the low-battery notification. Maybe 1/3 times I press it. With the device unplugged, if I press the power button, it will turn on just long enough to give me the low-battery message...but it will do this every time I press the button. Not randomly like when it is plugged in. Sorry if some of this info is extraneous but I'm also trying to sort out whether there is some type of circuitry damage....
3. The device NEVER is recognized by my PC in any way, shape or form. I've installed the KFU drivers, rebooted, disconnected, reset Kindle, uninstalled and reinstalled KFU drivers....every combination under the sun. No beeps, blips or changes in my device manager. This is obviously the biggest bummer and at first I figured I could order a fastboot cable and eventually sort it...but with all the other weird charging issues....maybe this thing is just FUBAR.
EDIT: I completely forgot to add some pertinent information - after sitting on the charger for a half an hour or so...the device will automatically boot to the 'kindlefire' logo screen and then reboot 5 or 6 times in a row flashing between the low-battery message and boot logo...where it eventually stays and still isn't recognized by my computer. I typically will try and reset it after a while...in which it then turns goes back to the normal power button lit up with amber. It then takes another 30 or so minutes and then it will randomly reboot to the logo screen again boot loop all over again. Makes zero sense.
I'd be more than happy to give more information and troubleshoot any other ideas to get this thing going, but I just wanted to illicit opinion before spending money on the cable.
I can tell you right off the bat you need a kindle (or comparable) charger. USB does not cut it. Kindle Fire has big charging requirements. Start with that and you might have better luck!

Thanks...I had read that before and then read varying other information to the contrary. Instead of spending money just buying a Kindle Fire stock cable...I'm assuming I might as well spend the extra couple of bucks for a fastboot cable?
EDIT: It's late, I now realize you mean I need to buy the wall charging unit first, correct? I have a wall charger for my Samsung Galaxy S III, would that potentially work?
Ordered appropriate charger...I knew the PC and phone wall charger were underpowered but I never bothered to look up the respective specs until now...they are quite a bit underpowered.
Will check back in once received. Thanks again...

Unsintall any drivers you have for the kindle in Device Manger. Than run the driver in the KFU folder. If it takes 2 seconds to install you didn't uninstall it. It takes more than a minute to install the driver. Once it is installed than use the unbrick utility

He meant your windows device manager. The kindle drivers are temperamental. Once you have fully charged device and properly installed drivers, you might find that your situation has changed.

Yeah I knew he was talking about Windows Device Manager, that's why I mentioned that as of right now, there is nothing to uninstall from the Device Manager because the PC isn't recognizing anything. But yes, after the device fully charges, with any luck, I'll at least pull something up in the DM and then I will make sure to uninstall and reinstall before poking around.
Well, same problem remained. Charged on wall for 6+ hours with appropriate charger but the light remained lit amber and frozen at 'kindlefire' bootscreen.
Hard reset it and it now just flashes the low battery message to me briefly before powering the screen off again (remains 'charging' if on charger or just turns back off if not on charger). I figured that this wasn't my issue due to the fact my computer wasn't recognizing the Kindle in any state, even when stuck on boot logo. It's not just that it doesn't assign the right drivers....it never notices anything plugged in at all. Restarted, hard booted again, restarted with the Kindle connect stuck on boot screen and every combination in between.
No clue...any help appreciated...
Any thoughts at all here??
Been plugged in for over 12 hours...still amber light. Sometimes frozen on 'kindlefire' boot logo screen...other times just off entirely....alternates.
I'm wondering if you have a bad usb port - a common kindle defect. Sounds like you might build up enough charge for the device to attempt to boot then it goes dead again until a little more juice trickles in. This is total conjecture because I think typically it just comes off the board and quits working completely. You might want to search about replacement.

Yeah, I got this for free so I'm not going to bother paying for a replacement. Just an auxiliary device.
I cracked it open yesterday to take a look at that very issue but didn't have a small enough screwdriver with me at the time to take the board off to look. I've soldered things here and there.
I don't necessarily hold out much hope that is the issue because the charging light stays lit and never seems to falter no matter if I wiggle or move around. But who knows, I've seen weirder things...I just find it interesting that I get no response at all from my computer even when it's stuck on the boot logo. Typically with most devices, that seems to be far enough for it to be sending something out at that point. Maybe it is stopping just short of that moment though....who knows...
I really want to root this dang KF but every time I hook it up to any charger or cable it goes black and shuts down.... I have read all over the net the last few weeks and seems this isnt super common like the charging port problem... It works good when running on the battery. Anyone have any ideas before it gets used for target practice?

First generation kindle fire? Are you using the correct cable? If both of these are true seems you have a kindle with a serious hardware issue. How do you manage to charge it? Best to avoid rooting this one till that issue has been remedied.

Try this when connected to charger long press power button for 1 min. then let go then press as if to simply power on the device. Sending a bootloader to this Kindle is extremely risky if it powers off during the send the bootloader can be broken. This is the second hardest brick to recover from the first being a dead battery . Chances are this device has been rooted before and that`s why it was pawned look for evidence of being opened maybe someone incorrectly applied the short trick to recover from a hard brick. Which might be the best way to go about rooting it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038 . Are you sure the backlight is not remaining on but just giving the appearance that it is off? The first gen. kindle fire will not charge without a running system.

But when I plug it in the screen seems to go black ( in a dark room) and once I take it off the charger and push power button it brings up the "Kindle Fire" screen and it kind of pulses then goes to the unlock screen.. Its there suppose to be a charging indicator light? I dont see one when I plug it in

Ok I tried the 1 minute reset deal again, no joy.. I inspected the case and there is zero sings of tampering.. While I was out , I ran by my friends pawn shop and got another kindle charger.. He had another kindle he just gave me in case I needed parts... This new kindle wont boot on Press the power button and nothing shows up .. It shows orange charging light and green power light comes on briefly when power is pushed and then the green light shuts off after 3 seconds.. I am going to read the thread about firekit and shorting info.. Goal is to get the one that actutally boots repaired then might study up on the other one..

Did you ever figure out how to solve issue? I have same problem. It used to work fine. I have another, identical, it works fine. All the sudden, one of the kindles 2nd gen HD started to act up. If I connect it to computer it gives me error message that it is a low powering device.. computer does not recognize anything was plugged in then kindle shuts down exact way as you described it. Tried reboot computer, kindle, long holding power button, connect while off then start up...you name it. (Charges up fine with wall plug in too... I fully charged it to make sure that is not the issue...all I keep seeing on net is reset...but that did not solve my issue.) So if you can share any wisdom it would be great!!!
Thanks!!!
