Didn't work for me.

The screen recorder function seems to have been removed from current fw. There are at least a couple of threads in the general forum about this.
As for taking screenshots it might have to be enabled in Settings, under Movement. That's the method I use. See attached screenshot.

Removed even from the New N7100OXXALJ1 ? are u sure?

No, I'm not sure. That's just what I read in this forum. Plus, can't find the function in my XXALJ1.
Perhaps you'll get better info from the following threads:

Is the screen recording feature still present?

[Q] Disable Capacitive Buttons (Q)

Hello Brochachos from all over the world! I was wondering if there was any way to turn off capacitive buttons fully and just use the on-screen soft keys? That would be awesome. Thank you for your insight and help on this fellow xda members! <3 kse91holydiver

I had a mod for the nexus s that disabled the keys, I could adapt it to this phone probably. Using cm9 i'm guessing?
No, actually I'm using AOKP, does that change the difficulty in adapting it?
NVM I looked at your mod and adapted it myself, no flash zip necessary. For anyone else who wants to know you delete the text in /system/usr/keylayout/sec_touchkey.kl and then save changes in a root explorer app.
Is there any trick to turning the lights off on cm9?

Yeah I don't want to completely disable the keys themselves, I just want to turn the annoying, battery-wasting backlight off. The CM9 setting to do so does not work.

I want to know this too.
This was made by T.C.P. But I use it on CM9 Codename and AOKP. Turns off the lights but they still work. Flash in recovery and enjoy.

/system/lib/hw/
Push it there and reboot
Some ICS roms like codename have a "lights.sph-d710.so" file so push the the lights.exynos4.so and delete the d710 one then reboot (if that's the case).

It seems once the d710 file is deleted the brigbtness goes crazy and the widget for brightness stops working, anyone else?

That's why I said make sure you add the lights.exynos4.so after you delete the d710 file and then reboot.
Don't forget to set permissions before your reboot.
Why would you ever want on screen buttons instead. Phone screens are small as is, and youre choosing to use a portion of it to be dedicated to buttons you already have? Not to mention theyre not as responsive as capacitive buttons and theyre bound to get in the way sooo much more. I think its the worst part of ics, and Ill be dissapointed if the s3 ships without capacitive buttons, even if it does make ot look cooler. And the removal of search and menu is downright retarded
The .so file does indeed work. Thanks so much for the workaround.
Also on the general subject I would much prefer fewer buttons on my mobile device. My HP laptop has capacitive buttons and they are the cause of many headaches. Even the menu button on my E4GT sporadically activates on its own from time to time. Google did it right with ICS and the Galaxy Nexus. The keys are there only when you need them and auto-hide when you don't meaning the screen real-estate is not as much of an issue as one might think.

If they dissapear its rare. And that portion of the screen is blacked out anyways. Ive never had an issue with my capacitive buttons.

I am trying to do it because my hardware buttons randomly press themselves making the phone difficult to use. I get where you are coming from though.
I'm searching around trying to fix my phantom search button issue but don't want to flash a different rom or start a new thread... I'm rooted with framaroot (great system, so easy to do), have busy box, root browser- virgin mobile S2 SPH-D710, same as the Epic 4G touch. I found a thread in another forum talking about editing the button to simply no longer have a task, but in regards to the menu button and not the search button which is the one that is giving me the phantom issue. Thread is here:
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...th-ics-jb-phantom-menu-keypress-easy-fix.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203059
Anyone know how to go about deleting the functionality of the search button?
I want to take this approach as it seems the only way short of a new/referb or hunting down a custom rom where the software somehow fixes the issue via programming. I did have virgin send me a referb and it had the same issue lol, so working on fixing it the xda way haha. For those with the same issue and wondering what is causing it, IMO the best explanation I found was from another forum, it seems to be hardware, where a screen replacement or capacitor addition is the fix because some S2s had bad quality control and a magnetic shield was not installed correctly and when the cell antenna is in a low reception area, it increases power and that causes an inductive voltage situation or some other power issue and makes the handset think the menu or search button is pressed. I found some who feel that even though it's a hardware issue, of course the software could be set to prevent the cell antenna from 'juicing up' in low reception areas.

[Q] Physical button.

Folks,
Please, is it possible to use the physical button as shutter (while on camera) and answer/hangup call?
I need to use some bandages on my hands and every capacitive screen fails me... the S-PEN is definitively something that I'm eager to try (every other generic stylus fails on some level).
Thanks!!

Not in stock rom that ive seen, maybe a friendly dev could create a custom mod for you. You could use a camera app that responds to voice commands, that would solve part of your problem

This works well, and is fortunately included as an option on Samsung's default camera app (on the GT-N7100 at least). So fun to snap a picture by saying "cheese".

Rofl.. yeah it works... I think the phone thinks you said "shoot". Also it works if you say "sheet".
If you go to Settings>Accessibility you can chose to answer phone calls using home button and hang up using the power button. im using this setting as Im keeping my phone in a pouch and this way I don't have to take it out every time I get a phone call

[Q] Looking for a Smart Screen Lock App

Hi there,
So I was looking for an app and done some searches but cant seem to see one out there. I`d thought I would post here as if there isnt one it could be a pet project for someone
Basically the app I am looking does this:
When on my local wifi network the screen lock is a simple pull down. However, when I venture outside it becomes a pattern/pin based lock screen.
So I wondered if there is an app out there that meets these prerequisites?
Thanks for reading!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5oYXJkcm9jay5zbWFydGFuc3dlcmNhbGwiXQ..
Thank for your support. I search my concerns by google, many people meet the same problem, and so far there is no any solution. anyway I can try to answer in-call by shaking fuction. better than nothing.
I appreciate that someone share with us how to answer incall when using flipcover in note 2. so far I know answer call by touching home key and touching screen.

Knockr Brings HTC’s Motion Launch Functionality to Galaxy SIII

Guys I just wanna inform who dont aware of great news, htc features successfuly working on our phones
App working well on Galaxy SIII
Copy from xda portal post
One of the most interesting proprietary features of the HTC One M8 (2014) is undoubtedly Motion Launch. For those who aren’t familiar with Motion Launch, it essentially allows you to wake your device from sleep and launch certain apps with a few easy gestures such as bringing the device into a particular orientation and flicking your thumb on the screen.
As interesting as Motion Launch is, the feature is unfortunately limited to the M8. Luckily, XDA Forum Member Acela1230 created Knockr to bring some of the same functionality to various other devices. Now before we wet started, it’s important to note that Knockr is only meant for OLED devices. This is because the application keeps the screen “on” even when it is off, in order to accept touch input. This isn’t really an issue with OLED devices, as a black pixel requires next to no power.
Knockr currently supports several gestures including double tapping the screen, swiping in a particular direction (up, down, left or right), long pressing the screen, and pressing the volume up key. These gestures can then be defined to launch applications of your choosing or unlocking the screen.
So if you’ve got an OLED device such as Samsung’s or Motorola’s recent offerings, head over to the application thread and give Knockr a try.

It DOES work. S3 have an AM-OLED screen. I tested it and works well, the negative side is deep sleep (phone does not enter in deep sleep because it is awaken all the time by making the screen on but all black), but it is very interesting

yes it is working it have some bugs but its working
i don't think that the phone "dosen't go to the sleep" is a big problem in that case because AM-OLED screen don't consume much power when they are in black mode, just like the S5 when you use the power save mode it turn every thing black and white so that screen don't use much power to save battery
i have use that app like 2 days now and battery draining is not noticeable at all, the Rom i use ( imperuim rom ) hold 23 hours in standby mode when i used this app its 22 hours 20 min i mean u can give a few min of your battery life to this great app

Just an idea : Why isn't there an app wakes up the screen when we swipe our finger over the menu & the back capacitive buttons starting from left or right (forget the physical home button)?
This is a feature in kernels for phones without a physical home button known as the Swipe 2 Wake feature...
