Ion-factory CarbonGrip Case - Galaxy S III Accessories

Just came to share some pics and first impressions of the "Ion-factory CarbonGrip" case for the SGS3. Not sure if these have been discussed. I came across one of these on ebay and decided to take the dive on a "carbon white" case for $40. Typically I wouldnt spend so much, but this one looked like it had great potential. So far it's exceeded all my hopes - I totally love it.
The CarbonGrip is described on the manufacturer's website as being made of "patented polyurethane crafted on high durable polycarbonate plastic fiber" - you can see the thin, hard PC sandwiched in between two layers polyurethane. The polurethane with the carbon look is not soft and cheap - it feels high quality and also doesn't seem to attract lint or dirt. This stuff lines the inside as well as the outside of the hard plastic, together making it seem like the case can absorb some significant shock. It feels durable and safe, like I can throw it toss it down the sidewalk without anything happening.
In the event of a drop - from any angle - the phone itself is completely prevented from making contact with the ground thanks to the corners which extend well around all sides. When placed face down the screen is prevented from touching the ground by a small lip on the corners (I do wish the lip was taller, but that's only because my Xgear Spectre screen protector is so thick). In my case the CarbonGrip just barely barely keeps my screen elevated off the ground. One good thing is the corners barely intrude around the sides of the bezel at all, so our ultra-thick fullscreen protectors aren't impeded.
Altogether it adds up to solid protection and a great case...you can find the CarbonGrip on ebay or from the manufacturer here: http://ion-factory.com/carbongrip_gs3.php

That doesn't look very sturdy. How do you like it so far?

Looks very nice and comfort, just a little pricey

Thicker cases will absorb bigger drops and flex damage, but I just needed something that's going to protect against shoulder-height drops on hard surfaces. This case should do that no problem. It's not going to just pop off or anything, it's very snug. = The phone seems to perform quicker with this too compared to with traditional dual-layer cases like Asace. I could just be imagining it, but it seems much snappier....maybe it can just breather better and runs that much cooler.

Thats dumb lol.. a case will not effect the phone speed. Also... $40 for a case of that magnitude is way too much. Thats more than an otterbox which requires alot more tooling and materials to make.
Also... I guarantee that case would not protect against shoulder height drops unless your 3 feet tall...then maybe it would

duh ! everyone knows thinner cases make the phone faster because it breathes better. I am currently moding the back of my phone so i can install a water cooling system.

im not going to say ya...totally...
but uh..these phones do get hot, and they do throttle and/or slow down when the heat rise's....more ventilation will prevent that.
BUT I haven't seen anything of the sort in my use, even with bulky cases...
so while in principal...yes...
in reality....doubtful..

I agree on the fact that it is bull**** that the phone js faster. But people saying this is not worth 40 are dumb and reasoning with uknown information.
I hope for the OP this is real carbon therefore worth the money.
Making a real carbon case costs a fortune when you automate this as far it goes with machines. Material wise it is very expensive and costs hours of labor.
For example of expensive material cases look at elementcase.com. Cases at the price of 150€ are not rare.
A case is not always worth what people give for it.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

The seeming improvement in performance is probably just the result of sprint improving it's 3G coverage in the South Bay Area finally. May not be related to the case at all. But I still feel better that this case will not trap heat as much, whether it will noticeably affect performance or not.
This thing provides excellent protection, I have no doubt it can take serious falls. The three layers of materials are condensed and the whole thing feels like a super thick, stiff bandaid. Feels very impact resistant. Holding the phone is very nice and the corners provide a nice little extra grip in your palm when holding your phone.
The material is definitely not real carbon fiber, but I dont count that as a knock against the case and I wouldnt want real carbon fiber. This stuff feels similar like TPU, but harder than poly and will absorb some impact - real carbon fiber would just get all messed up and wouldnt protect the phone's internals from trauma like this stuff will.
Price is steep yeah...and the markup is also very high I'm sure, but at least i can finally stop buying cases all the darn time.. finally found something satisfying.

Glad you like the case. Its looks pretty nice, as far as it being worth $40, damn if it makes the man happy its well worth it. I've wasted a hell of lot more money and have been very unhappy. Its $40...well spent if it makes you happy. Enjoy your case!!

Iono man..... from the pix you posted, I think I am better off with the UrbanArmorGear Aviator case I preordered @ $35.

thanks Warrior1975, that's a nice sentiment
Just wanted to post an update in case anyone in the future wants info on in this thing; there's not much out there about these.
So there's a narrow strip of rubber adhesive running along the edge of the case that keeps the edge bonded in one piece and prevents the layers from peeling -> this rubber strip is prone to get dirty unfortunately. The actual exterior of the case is dirt resistant but the rubber edges are not. So for this reason you may want to choose a black case instead of a white one if you're considering buying this.
I took a sharpie to the rubber part of mine because the dirtiness along the edge was starting to bother me. Other than that its holding up great though.
Build quality on this thing is pretty cool. It snaps on and off perfectly with almost no effort, but it stays in place when it's protecting the phone. It's three layers of materials are only about 2mm thick total, but still it achieves a soft cushion with a stiff structure which is great. And its able to grip the phone without its corners protruding over the bezel really at all. That's rare to have a full protection case that works with fullscreen xgears screen protector.
It's too bad the price is a bit prohibitive...I think if more people had the opportunity to give it a shot they would be very pleasantly surprised.. but on the other hand I guess it's not so bad to be the only one rockin' a case

Case Mate Barely There review

Photos at the bottom of the post for those looking to get straight to the phone p0rn
When I got my DINC2 the VZW rep was "nice" enough to throw in a silicone case for free. I say "nice" because silicone is made for bakeware and o-rings, not phone cases. I was pulling the case off the phone as I walked out the door and it got ditched in the first trash can I saw.
I set out to find a case based on some specific requirements:
Thin and light
Grippy exterior
Excellet camera lens protection
The last one is really important and I'm surprised more folks don't highlight it in case reviews, especially for HTC phones. As anyone who owned the original DINC will tell you, HTC loves to leave their camera lenses flapping in the breeze where any hard object passing by can scratch/crack/smudge it.
My DINC wore a Seidio Surface case from day one and it was phenominal but with the DINC2 being slightly larger the Surface seemed to add more bulk than I was willing to stick in my pocket. I had read about the Incipio Feather case here on the forums and ordered one based on other's experiences. I was extremely disappointed when it arrived already broken still inside it's packaging. I returned it but the seller took six weeks to send the replacement, so in the meantime I got the Case Mate.
Once I had both of them in hand I was surprised at how different they were. It's the same basic design, a super thin case that wraps around the two sides and the four corners leaving the top and bottom exposed. What struck me was the difference in materials. The Case Mate was noticeably more rigid, fit more tightly and the "soft touch" surface was more grippy. The Incipio was certainly a quality case but the Case Mate just felt better.
Lastly, to the point of protecting the camera, the Case Mate takes the cake. The Incipio adds pretty much nothing in terms of shielding the camera but the Case Mate has a deliberate lip which gives the camera 2-3mm of setback. When you put the phone down in the Incipio case the lens still touches the table which means if you put it down on something less forgiving you're just asking for lens damage. The Case Mate's lip puts some distance between the lens and whatever you put it down on. When you take into account that your phone spends a great deal of time in your pocket, along with change/keys/etc the Incipio offers pretty much no protection to what I would call a design flaw on HTC's part.
In the end I'm glad I didn't pay for the Incipio (the seller refunded my money and let me keep the case to avoid negative feedback for the six week return delay). The Case Mate is a fantastic minimal case for the DINC2 that adds very little bulk, makes the phone easier to grip, protects the camera really well and feels much more durable than a 1mm thick piece of plastic.

I got the Innocase Surface, I really like it. Viewing from the pictures it looks like the casemate is abit thinner but not by much. I was considering the Casemate but I wasn't too sure how much I wanted a case that doesn't really protect the bottom or the top faceplate. Glad you enjoy the case though!
After spending some more time with the Case Mate I've discovered what might be it's only flaw and frankly I don't think I completely blame the case for this one.
The power button on top of the phone is already pretty minimal but with the case it's just slightly harder to actuate. The case comes up close to the button and stands off from the phone about the same distance. That means the button is pretty much flush with the case.
Now Case Mate didn't design the phone to have a slightly-too-small power button (I don't care for it even without the case) but they might have considered leaving a bit more clearance to make it a little easier to press.
Cool review. Incipio Red feather user here. I posted my review on Amazon.com, mine is the only review that's posted there. I've been very happy with my Red case as it is my favorite color and it is the thinnest out there(1mm).
I have to disagree with your comment on camera protection, the incipio feather has an ample lip which covers the camera. The only thing you can expect from these thin case is to have just a tiny lift off from surfaces and the feather gives the lift. I honestly do not see the point of thicker lip because it literally does nothing more than just a slightest lift off.
However since I've never touched the Case Mate Barely There, I have to take your words on the material. I wish they make more bright colors.
Very nice review! I went with the CaseMate as well and I really like it for easy pocket carry. I had the same concern with reduced ease of access to the power button, so I did a quick mod on mine with a Dremel wheel. I will probably go back and clean it up so it doesn't look so angry-beaver-ish but it is really nice to use with this tiny modification and with the change it truly lives up to the "Barely There" name.
If rooted I can MOD your ROM to make it so you can pull the phone out of sleep with the volume keys, that seems to be working for me.
nice review. I am catching this thread a little late I know but the aspect I dont like about this case is I dont see much protection for the screen in the event of a drop. I would never think that would be an issue but two days ago my Dinc2 feel out of my bag as I was putting it in my car and landed face down flat on its screen and shattered the screen. Had to dish out the deductible for a replacement. Now I am using a TPU case as is has just enough lip to protect the screen if it happened again.
I want a case similar to this, but it just doesn't protect the screen enough.

Stay away from these type of cases

hey guys,
so before i purchased the trident kraken case, i bought a case from ebay ahead of time to keep my phone protected until the heavy duty cases started to roll out.
this is the case i bought.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-AT-T-Ver...ccessories&hash=item3cc72c2dc6#ht_1837wt_1397
i thought this would be a decent case to keep my phone nicely protected until i get my hands on an otterbox or trident.
instead, you can see what happened from my pictures. I received my trident case, and when i removed the case i bought from ebay, i came to discover that there are DENTS on the silver bezel that goes around the phone. while i had this case, i dropped the phone twice and both took place as i was getting out of my car, and had the phone on my lap. i think because of the tight fit and its material, it did the opposite of providing adequate protection.
additionally, when i removed the hard case, the 2 pieces were locked in so tight that i had no choice but to break the case.
really disappointed that this happened to my new phone and hopefully i can help prevent this from happening to others.

Gutted
Did the case itself cause the damage or did it just not protect the phone from the 'bumps' properly?

honestly it's hard to say.
i'd think it's the latter. i guess my phone coudlve been worse off if i didn't have a case.
but even with that said, i still didn't expect the case to make dents to my phone when it's dropped...it was suppose to protect my phone from damages :S
From my experience, the best cases are hard plastic cases that can bend slightly. Soft rubber/silicone cases deform (and stick in your pockets).

TPU all the way. I'm assuming by "hard plastic cases that can bend slightly"... you mean stuff like the Incipio Feather or whatever.... really thin snap on case? Cheapy TPU cases on eBay are thin, indestructible, won't deform, and don't stick to your pockets.... PLUS cover the entire outside edge of the phone.
I can't remember which TPU case I used to have but it had an argyle pattern, kind of translucent? I guess it was kind if generic but it worked.
Agreed about the silicone, lint traps.

You can't really blame the case when it was you who dropped it hwice. I mean the case is not fully protective like Otter box defender or any other similar case. You should have been more careful not to drop them twice. That's my opinion anyway.

Actually I think you are wrong. The OP's case is a hardcase, a soft silicone case would never have dented the phone.
I had a smartphone in a cheap silicone case bounce off my car at 80 km/hour and it did not do ANY harm to the phone inside.

i have to disagree.
i had a TPU case for my sony X10, dropped it a ton of times, NEVER dented my phone like what this case did to my S3. the 2 times i dropped the S3 were not hard drops either.
bottom line is, a case should protect your phone from scratches and dents. as you can see in the pics, it's pretty obvious it's the internal of the case that caused those dents.
Not surprised, what do you expect from a $7 case?

lol. uh....maybe for it to protect my phone like it would with a TPU case that's cheaper on ebay?
anyways.
like i said, in my personal opinion, even a cheap TPU case on would never done this to my phone. and it's not so much about 'how much it cost'. any hard plastic cases can potentially cause damages like that, hence why some ppl stay away from otterbox defender because they don't feel safe having their phone inside a plastic shell instead of a silicone shell.
just trying to warn others out there are are considering these type of cases.
I never use "hardback" cases about the only thing they protect from is mild scratching. I just don't trust them. simply physics. the whole point of a case in my opinion is to disperse the "G" load of impact.
a solid object like a rigid phone versus a solid ground (hard floor or concrete etc..) causes "momentary" split second g loads of THOUSANDS of G's of impact force. literally.
its only for milliseconds but thats enough to blow apart and shatter a lot under the right conditions.
a "give" case one that "gives" a bit (TPU - Rubber - Silicone etc..) flexes. it "gives" which translates the deceleration distance from nearly zero to a millimeter or so.
believe it or not this is enough to reduce the G load from THOUSANDS of G's to under 20 G's in many cases easily under 100 G's which these devices "CAN" withstand.
I don't have $500 to replace this critter so you can bet I use nice big clunky huge rubbery cases I prefer hybrids that have a "hard shell" and a soft outer shell. this way you get rigid "penetration" protections AND shock protection. plus I have HUGE hands and these make these skinny winney phones so much easier and more comfortable to hold.
try sticking a nekkid S3 between your shoulder and your ear hehe

Just to be sure, I’m going to say beforehand, if you don’t already know, these are hardcases! With that in mind, know that these cases will not protect you from a drop! Scratch and scrape protection only!!
If you are the type that drops your phone, DON’T buy these cases.
If you do buy a case and drop your phone, and something unfortunate happens… DON’T blame me!

On my seemingly never ending search for the right case for every occasion, I stumbled upon the Painted “Lichi Grain” Hardcases. I am assuming “Lichi Grain” means leather look. Google search comes up with “Litchi” while every case of this style is “Lichi” so I don’t know. Maybe it’s just universally spelled wrong… who knows.
Anyway, these caught my eye for 3 reasons:
1) They are hardcases, which for better or worse, satisfy my minimalism addiction.
2) They have a neat texture.
3) They have painted pictures on them!
So, I decided to have a look through all of them and test one out. There are 20+ different designs to choose from. Some case designs are clearly meant for kids, some for girls, and some just weird…but I’ll hand it to them, they have a little bit of everything. I narrowed it down to the Skull, the weird anime Mario (not sure where I would ever use it!), and what I eventually settled on, which was the stylized Superman symbol. I figured I couldn’t be a grown ass man walking around with an anime Mario case… as much as the nostalgia was hitting me hahaha.
Presentation:
When I ordered it I was expecting the typical envelope with the case just wrapped in foam or something, which is generally how it is when you order something from overseas. While this came in an envelope, it was actually packaged nicely when I opened it up. It comes in a nice protective package, with a little window so you can feel the texture of the case. The presentation was a pleasant surprise.
When I cracked the package open and held the case you do notice the texture quite well. It isn’t two layers where it is a hardcase and then a leather coating or something. The plastic itself is textured and grooved like that. When you feel the case, you do feel the bumps and grooves, but it’s not a soft or grippy texture. The feeling is along the lines of the White Ringke Slim, the White Spigen Ultra Fit, the White LG Hardshell, or any standard polycarbonate case with no additional coating on it. This is just “Lichi Grain” textured. So I would consider it smooth but bumpy? If that makes any sense at all.
The painted picture on it made no discernable difference to the feel of the case. It still felt exactly the same as a standard polycarbonate case. So I don’t know what kind of paint they used, but you don’t feel it anyway. Whether or not the paint begins to wear/rub off or not, I have no idea, but for the short time I’ve had it, it seems durable enough.
Build Quality:
The case is thin and bendable. I would say it is just a bit thicker than the LG Hardshell (for those of you who have that). Following along those lines, you will know that this case will provide 0 drop protection. I think if you bent it outward too much, it would snap in half. Not that it would break putting it on and taking it off the phone, but just so you have an idea of the thickness of the case, and it being minimalist.
As for the cutouts, tight would be an appropriate word. It fits around the camera and flash very closely, but ever so slightly off centre (by like .25mm or something) and the power and volume cutouts are rounded and indented. I honestly would like them a tiny bit bigger, but if you are a fan of precise button cutouts, this doesn’t disappoint.
There is the slightest lip for a “lay on the table” screen down design. I never do, but if you want your case to be seen, you can do it without the screen touching the table (but just barely).
Looks:
I like it. The colors and contrast are very nice. The white is a bright white (the camera didn’t capture it well without flash due to how the room was lit) and I like the pattern used inside of the Superman symbol. It is not just a black stamp, but an interesting design in itself. The “Lichi Grain” also adds to the look and gives it some extra character. So I wasn’t disappointed at all in the looks department. It is a classy looking case.
Overall:
I’m pleasantly surprised. I figured I would give it a chance and it turned out nicer than I expected. It’s a nice looking case, quite thin, and the design/texture are done very well. I have no idea about the durability of the paint, so that’s still up in the air, but it looks nice regardless.
I’m not sure how often I’ll use it, as I still love my quicksand cases (of course) and I will soon have a Slickwraps skin to put on my replacement Red Nexus 5 (whenever they decide to ship it…) but I know I can pull this case out whenever I need a change of pace.
Pros:
- Sweet Design
- “Lichi Grain” Texture
- Thin/Minimalist
Cons:
- Durability of the paint is unknown
- Thin/Minimalist (so overall strength)
But they're like $7 above the usual price you used to pay for a case. You've got a big raise at work or what? ;D

Haha no kidding huh?
Just a bit of a change of pace is all. Still love my quicksand cases but I thought these ones were really neat.
The quicksand cases are definitely still my top pick. Build quality, texture, feel, price, etc. can't be beat. This was kind of an impulse buy based solely on looks.

Oh wow. Just what I've been looking for. A hard case without that soft touch material I really don't like. Looks like the caseology but in a much thinner design with exposed buttons. Just wish I could find it in a plain solid color.

Best cases I've found (without battery button cutouts!)

I've been on the hunt for a decent case for this phone since I got it on its release date and it's been greuling. It's almost as if this phone doesn't exist, in the Americas anyway, a lot of cases I've come across are nameless and generic, worst of all, poorly designed with a big theme being the inclusion of the battery door button cutout.
Here's a few companies and cases I've found to be actually designing a case for this phone:
VRS Design, some simple designs that work, nothing too fancy but that's just what some of us want:
https://vrsdesign.com/collections/lg-v20
Noreve, these are some impressive wallet style cases and the quality seems unprecedented, great for a gift or for those of us who want a nice leather flip case, definitely not within most budgets with certain customization options but worth keeping in mind:
http://www.noreve.com/en/1303-v20
J&D Slim Case, a simple case from Amazon for cheap, does the job but features the aforementioned battery button cutout and a less precise design than the rest on this list, I found it to be the more acceptable of the budget cases I've come across because of its simple design, small form factor, and the 4 color options:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KNQ4SH6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_ONQGybGDMFMHS
Seidio, skeptical at first but glad this is a case I bought, a random brand that popped up in my search a few times. They seem to have one of the few 2 layer cases that don't have a battery button cut out and that also doesn't add much heft to the phone, all with adding a kickstand as well. Another great thing I love about the case is that it's inner layer can function as a standalone super slim rubber case, the fit is perfect and there are no quality issues as far as the precision and design is concerned (will post pics eventually):
https://www.seidioonline.com/product/lg-v20-surface-case/
Incipio, a popular brand making decent cases for more than just Samsung and Apple phones? WHAT?! I was surprised to see the selection Incipio has for the V20 and they look very promising. Starting from $20 you can get a case that fits well, looks nice, is from a trustworthy brand and best of all, doesn't have a battery button cutout! I took a liking to the Dualpro, NGP, and Octane models, they seem to provide good protection without adding a ton of bulk and offer some options for color:
https://www.incipio.com/cases/smart...lg-v20-cases/incipio-dualpro-lg-v20-case.html
https://www.incipio.com/cases/smart...0-cases/incipio-ngp-advanced-lg-v20-case.html
https://www.incipio.com/cases/smart.../lg-v20-cases/incipio-octane-lg-v20-case.html
I hope this helps some people out there hunting for cases, I was sure in need of this research and thought I'd share.
these are some cool cases. Thanks.
I have the High Pro Shield VRS (also had it on Note 7). Fit and feel is perfect,however.... The kickstand pivot seems to be positioned a hair too low. The phone tends to wanna fall over at the slightest bump. The Note 7 didn't suffer from this (same model case). Its like the center of gravity is a lil higher, still a great case and is not a deal breaker.
Oh hey, I've wanted Incipio to make cases for this phone. It's my lucky day. Now to convince myself 19.99 is worth it...
Have you actually tried them all? If not which one did you end up going with? I may go with the Incipio for $19.99. It's definitely worth it because I don't have phone protection. You think I'd learn my lesson after dropping a Nexus 6P and cracking the screen. Nope. I'll try to be careful.
UAG
It's a bit bulky and the cam is recessed (good).
However, when you insert the case, make sure the button (left) side inserted first.

Slickwrap and under a poetic atmosphere case....I see no other case/skin setup I rather have. Feels good and I love the way it looks (get compliments all the time on it). Not the best picture (looks better in person)
Spigen Rugged Armor black is very nice, thin, fits prefectly, improves grip and audio jack cutout is large enough to use Professional Headphoes such as DT990 or HD500 and such... and it also is very very light

Exactly the problem I have with the Obliq. Nice case but the Sennheiser hd650 cable struggles to make the fit.

By far my favorite case so far. I have 3 other cases and I haven't used any of them since I picked up the Spigen. Can't say enough good things about it.

2nded.
My big thing has been keeping screen recessed since my Evo 4g took a 2 ft fall getting out of a car & hit perfectly on a rock to shatter the screen.
I always used OtterBox defender after that. But phones kept getting larger. When I got Note 7, tried UAG and loved it when I switched to V20 got UAG again. Much less bulk, but feels just as safe. Phone has dropped multiple times with zero issues.
I bought this one in navy for 11$ on Ebay sale. Gorgeous looks with solid quality, great feel in hand (not slippery at all), not bulky and totally protected with Spigen tgsp! #stronglyrecommend https://www.incipio.com/cases/smartphone-cases/lg-smartphone-cases/lg-v20-cases/incipio-ngp-advanced-lg-v20-case.html
How good are the Ghostek cases? They look pretty cool.

But mostly i'll be going for the UAG case. Sucks that its not available here in India. Have to wait for someone to drop by from the USA
Currently rocking this one , the only case minimal enough with a good grip and a very classy back

i found the poetic revolution to be the best case . My phone has fell so much in the street and also i accidentally threw it to a wall. LOL everything looking good so far. I have had it since november. It has flaps for dust proofing and whole for every mic and the IR . It has a screen protector that if it gets scratched or you dont like it, well, you can always remove it and use your temper glass.

How well does it slide in and out of your pocket? My biggest beef is when a case is too "rubbery" and gets hung up.
Also how is the built in screen protector? I've been thru a ton of glass protectors now, none seem to suit me.

It slides very nice in and out of pocket. Lol
The built om screen protector is quite good. I didnt remove the one that came with the and yet it adhered very well to it. Up until now it has just one small scratch on it.
Over the time, the cover start getting some external sign of use that looks like sctatch but is more caused by all the time thr phone has felt on the street and other places. Lol nevertheless it still feels as if thr cover were brand new.
The only downside is that if you put it in a diagonal surface, it will slide easily. Unless you put it upside down
Picked up the Poetic Revolution case but removed the screen protector. In hindsight, that might not have been the best idea because of the double-sided take they use on the top and bottom of the front piece that holds the protector.
Let's just say I'm almost worried about removing the front now as I can see the adhesive trying to stick to the phone. ....... (Wait, Devhux! You mean to say you didn't think of that BEFORE putting on the front piece????? Hahahahaha!)

Been using Ringke Onyx, it is well made although a bit slippery. Good price as well.
I bought this as I needed one in a hurry. Works great though

Nice texture. Just enough grip

Case review: dbrand Grip for Pixel 5

Disclaimer: This review was neither sponsored, nor did I recieve any personal discounts. My personal opinion about this product is unbiased.
Pricing
dbrand lists the case with a skin for 39.90 USD. I applied a newsletter subsription and paid 35.91 USD. No shipping fees were charged.
Delivery
The case was shipped from Canada to Germany in about 12 days and a tracking code. Although I thought that sales taxes would apply and be collected by the customs, the package had a "customs free" sticker on it and no taxes were charged. I dunno why but I do not complain.
Pictures
Retail box
The retail box is a gem. I took some shots of it so you see what I mean. It contributes nicely to the product and makes you feel having purchased something precious. Nicely done, robots!
Assembly
If you purchased a skin with the case, you have to bring it up to the case first. If you watch and follow the video guide, this is fairly easy and led to a perfect result for me.
Build quality / Durability / Looks
For my last 5 phones, I used SPECK cases and therefore was used to bulky cases. In comparison, this case feels lighter and even slim. It sure is a good amount bulkier than typical "slim case" but it comes with a decent amount of drop protection. Thanks to the Pixel 5 being a compact phone, it still can be held with one hand in a comfortable manner when wearing the case.
The edges feature a slighly nobby texture that feels just great and should also prevent accidential slips. The texture of the Matrix skin looks dope.
All in all, this case looks high-class and also provides nice haptics. In my eys, it is worth the money.
Protection
The case feels sturdy and protective. I am confident that my Pixel 5 will survive some serious drops with it.
The lip on the frontside has the signature curve: Thick at top and bottom, flush at the sides. This makes the back-swipe gesture a breeze while still preventing screen contact when placed on flat surfaces. I am a bit unsure wether this will lead to trouble with face-down falls on uneven surfaces, but I assume that a evenly formed lid might not perform much better in this scenario.
Fitting / Cutouts / Buttons
The case fits like a glove. The buttons are super clicky and it's a joy to use them. The cutouts are precise and the port cutout should be big enough to provide space for most cables.
Unfortunately, the fingerprint cutout is rather small. This makes the "swipe down for notifications" gesture definitely harder to use although it still works. For me, this is not a show stopper but it might be for people with fat huge fingers. I just wish that dbrand would have made the cutout a little bit bigger since this is my only point of criticism with this case.
Durability
If you search the internet about the dbrand Grip cases, you will stumble upon many stories where the cases fell apart. Then I found this thread, where dbrand gave a comprehensive explaination why this happened and which counter measures were taken. This case is the latest generation and comes with all the described improvents. Only time will tell wether this case will hold up better.
Verdict
I highly recommend the drand Grip case for the Google Pixel 5: It looks and feels great, provides good protection without adding too much bulk. The customizablity with new skins is unique and might tempt you to spend more money. This being said: If you have huge fingers, the fingerprint cutout might be too small for you. I am confident that this case will not fall apart (or dbrand being obliging if it does).
Could you please take a picture from the top with the screen on and with a white background on (you could go to the settings or anywhere else that shows the entire screen from edge to edge)? I would give an idea of how much bulk it adds to the phone.
I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Yes, I use an Anker PowerWave Alloy and wireless quick charging works flawlessly.

its a good grippy case.. I love mine.
you gotta be out of your damn mind to pay for this...Ringke case, 12 bucks, owned, tested (not intentional) and it even got a cool Lanyard loop.
I have a new one for sale - has a sage skin on back - never used it - $20 delivered - PM me or email me at [email protected]
One of long term video reviews showed edges warping near cutout and buttons. How is it holding up so far? Price gives me a reason to pause even with the super 'grip" edges.
After using it every day, it is still in mint condition.
Thanks for the really good review. Just one point to clarify: can you please confirm that the back of the base (not just the side bumper) also has a grippy texture? If you put it on your pant leg when sitting, for example, will it slide off easily?
I love my Dbrand Grip with the red dragon skin and its super grippy texture.
If you're looking at phone cases to protect your phone's screen, you need to check out one of the screen guards. Screen protectors are becoming more advanced as the years go by. Some are built right in, some you have to put on separately. Either way, these are the best ways to make sure that your screen is safe. How can I make my phone case grippier?
You should also make sure that the cases you're looking at are anti-skid. This means that the case doesn't just slip over the phone, but stays put instead. If your phone slips out of the case, it will stop the phone from sliding all over the place. How can I make my phone case grippier? Start looking for cases with anti-skid features!
Another question you may be asking yourself is how can I make my phone case grippy if the material is hard and doesn't let the phone slide all over? Well, this is another problem that many phone cases have. So many cases are made of extremely hard materials that it's nearly impossible to slide your phone in and out. But luckily, there are some great soft cases available that are great at preventing your phone from sliding around.
I've been rocking this phone case for over a year. Just ordered the Leather skin insert from D Brand drop and a matte black skin as well. I've had the tear down on it for the year. The case is quite nice and offers good protection. The cut outs make it easy to use gesture controls.

After over a year of frequent use, I switched to an Google Pixel 6 Pro and therefore also sent this case to rest. Time for a wrap up on durability!
Unlike older generations, my case stood the test of time. The rubber did not separate from the plastic and even after some serious drops on concrete, the case is still in mint condition.
Only the skin foil started to get loose around the fingerprint scanner which led to strange haptics when you remove the finger from the scanner (since the foil will move a millimeter with with your finger). A new skin will surely fix this and so would some glue.
Guess what? I already pre-ordered this case for my new Pixel 6 Pro!
