i have looked but could not find what i was looking for.i have an sgs3 from sprint, stock.the swipe for screen shot worked then stopped working.i dont know if an app or setting caused this.i have the feature checked in options, but still no luck.can anyone help.if this has been discussed, please direct me to where.thank you
Idk but as an alternative, you can just hold home+power and it'll take a screenshot. Did you debloat your rom? Maybe you removed the motion apk?

Try this, go to Settings, then Motion, then scroll to the bottom. There should be a section title "Hand Motions". Make sure "Palm swipe to capture" is checked.

yeah i have done so a few diffrent times and still nothing.i have been reading diffrent forums and trying to get as much info as possible.will just resort to the home button/power button to use the screen shot feature.thanks for the help
You know you have to actually place your hands on the phone right?

yeah.i have tried a bunch of ways, but i am obviously doing something wrong.crazy how im making something thats supposed to be so simple so complicated..lol
Funny thing is I was watching a review on the SG3 the other day and the guy in the video couldn't get it to work either
The hold home+power button didn't work?

I gave up on using the Palm swipe method. Works sometimes and when it does I'm usually dragging a screen with it and taking a picture mid-animation. Home+ power works much better.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
It always works for me, but it can be clumsy and change the screen when you touch it. It is a neat idea, imo, so I wouldn't give up. Did you try doing a reset after wiping cache?

Make sure your using the side of your hand. (Like karate chop) place it firmly on the screen then pause for a sec then Swype. works for me every time.

My friend told me use palm to cover the whole screen then it can make screen shot but I try it not working
You have to slide the SIDE of your hand across the screen either left or right
Covering the screen with your hand mutes sound like music ect.

I can't get that slide your hand trick to work. You can press the home button + power button to take a screenshot too.
It's very simple.. This should help http://www.blogyourearth.com/en/sma...-samsung-galaxy-s3-palm-swipe-to-capture/3986
Make sure yu have the setting on.. Settings /motion / palm swipe to capture also the side of your palm has to be TOUCHING the screen as your swiping.. I've seen others with this problem they were waving their hands across instead of actually touching the screen...

That's one way. The easiest way, IMO, is the hold Power + Home button combo.

Don't use your palm face down to do it.. You have to turn your hand right and use the SIDE of your palm then swipe across like in the picture in the link I posted.. Good luck hope you get it!

Is there a picture app/ feature that allows you to quickly take a picture without having to unlock the phone?
Windows and crappie have this features and I wanted on my S3.
Thanks

Thanks, but the feature mentioned above does not support codes so it does not work when the phone is locked.

Why not try adding the camera app to one of the shortcuts on the lockscreen?

This is why:
1) Faster camera launch.
2) You don't have to enter a password every time you want to take a picture yet your phone its still locked/secured.
3) If you want someone else to take a pic, you have to stop and unlock the phone first or give them your password.
4) When the shortcut is on the lock screen, you have to enter the password before allowing you to take the pic. You'll miss the moment.
5) With Windows 7 and Crapple you don't have to unlock and could quickly launch the camera. Also, all the pictures you take at the moment are visible w/o unlocking.
It would be a good feature to have on the GS3.
Would be a great add on

of course that would be an inconvenience if you have a password on your phone (which i understand most people do.) i on the other hand do not as i dont let my phone out of my sight. i use the shortcut but thats just me and like they say to each his own right.
I would assume if you have a pin unlock code or something else it would be there no matter what app you use

There is an app for this but it requires having a dedicated shutter button on the device.

If memory serves me right, that has a dedicated camera button. If you really really really want this feature, you could remap the home button to function as your camera button, then run the navigation bar that appears in galaxy nexus devices and devices without hardware buttons
Can't you make a tasker function for that

You can wait for Android 4.2 since this functionally is now built into the lock screen.

Yes it does but I didnt have to use the button to do it. You pushed the unlock button, then slid the lock ring onto the camera icon (assuming you had it on your lock screen) and you could take a picture. You would see the 3 sec preview of it, and then take more pics. If you tapped the small pic of the last image, and it would take you to the pattern/number lock. That way someone couldn't see your pics without the pass.

Menu Button = Home Button.
To Screen Capture on N7100,
Press Home Button + Power Button at the same time for a moment.
When you see a white flash with a snap sound occur, then you have a screen capture on what you view on the device.
You can view the screen capture picture on Gallery -> Screenshots Folder.
Hope this help. :silly:
You guys!
Go into the options, and then MOTION. There's an option called Palm swipe to capture.
That's the easiest and fastest way to get the WHOLE screen without taking out the SPen. I use the SPen to just capture a piece of the screen by holding down the button and drawing a shape around what I want to capture, connecting both ends (closing the loop) and there you have it!!
Hi there. Before update to JB on my S3, when i do my readings on the phone, screen blackout, press the HOME button, the screen will come back up.
Now, screen blackout, press HOME button, screen come back up but the app or browser that I'm using will close down instead of just led the screen on (where the app still there)
Anyone has a way to fix this? Keep pressing on the POWER button to light up the screen is not as Convenient as by using the HOME button.
Thank you.

Glad it's not just me. This has been driving me bonkers ever since I updated. It's really the only complaint I have about the official 4.1.1. ROM right now. Would love to hear some suggestions on how to fix. In the meantime, I've been trying to train myself to use the side power button for screen on action.
Is there anyway that we can make suggestions on this matter?
It bugs me when I read on the bed at night.

this has been happening on jelly bean ROMs (not cm tho) ever since the leas came out - at least for me anyways. very irritating sometimes but yes, you are not the only one.
Bump. No one else is annoyed by this but us or has any idea for a fix?
Only 'fix' is to use smart stay when theres enough light. Otherwise increase your screen on time to one min. I had to increase my time since I use it at night so often.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
An easy fix is just to use your power button as soon as the screen blacks out.
It wakes the screen back up without closing down the current app your in... I just tested it out and it works, doesn't lock the phone either.
But if you don't wanna use the power button then I suggest you increase your screen time out to one minute or more if you don't want the screen blacking out fast.

Its really just doing what its supposed to before the device locks. I guess they expected smart stay to take care of it.

Bingo. This is the answer. I'd much rather have the slight lag in returning to the home screen than lose the ability to turn the screen back on with the home key. Thanks!
Hi,
Have noticed when trying to trace an image with my s-pen on the screen with the button pushed that sometimes it just doesn't seem to "take" and capture the image even though I have traced all the way around to the little beginning circle. This seems to happen mostly if I am tracing a smaller image.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just a bug? If it is a bug is there a way to fix it?
SECONDARY QUESTION:
It seems the only way to crop out a square image is to do a screen capture by pushing down the s-pen button and pressing it to the screen then using the crop tool. However, it would be nice to be able to actually draw a perfect crop square in the same way we do a trace capture. Is there any combination of buttons that does that?
I have noticed on my Note 10.1 tablet that I can trace an image in one multiview screen then just drag the into s-notes in the other pane and it pastes. However, with the GN2 this "drag and drop" doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong?
Last thing. Have noticed that on my Note 10.1 I can do a screen capture of the active multiview pane; however, with the GN2 it seems to capture both multiview panes then squishes the entire capture into one pane. Again, am I doing this wrong or is that a bug?
Thanks!
for perfect squares, well and now everything I have been lasso'ing a larger area and then using the photo editor app to crop them down ...for the reason that I noticed the longer I take to get a clean lasso the less chance I have of it working.
Interesting find on the screenshot deal. If I take a screen shot by hand swipe it is normal. Taking it with the pen results in squished screen.
As for the drag and drop I swear it worked out of the box...then the ljc update changed it but I could be wrong. I just know it does not work that way anymore. Similarly I recal draggingbthe lasso'd image to say messaging in the icons at bottom of screen ...now after the update I just hit messaging

I guess the point is that there are a number of things which work as they should on the Note 10.1 that don't seem to work that way on the GN2. It's not a screen real estate issue so I'm not sure what the problem is.
Just seems kind of buggy to me, especially the tracing part.
My Note 10.1 came with a specially designed version of photoshop but I'm not seeing that on my GN2. Am I missing it? I guess I just expected these to be close to the same except smaller. Maybe not.
For instance on the Note 10.1 in multiview each pane gets its own Min, Max and Close buttons but not here. Odd.
