I know we all often forget that some people might only have a data connection from their phone and possibly no wifi or 4g access.. this sometimes becomes a hassle when downloading a project, even a remotely small project, can be tedious and as such, often fails as an install due to data redundency issues.
*** note: all apk files generate a md5, Google made this possible so that you would not get a failed installation of say a 4.5gb file that you only have 15 min to install and demo (time usually starts after install and upon first run...).
This said, there is a way to check that check sum if your really paranoid... but its not important if you don't really care... here is a link anyway, if it reallt means that much to you...
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6462837/how-to-find-the-md5-fingerprint-of-my-android-app
But not all things have a generated checksum, most of us testers know that and would hate to brick our devices strictly because of a download error..
With that said, it would be nice of you could include with the downloads your offering, an MD5 and/or sha1 check sum.
:-:-:-:-:-:{ Tools for usage }:-:-:-:-:-:
You see its very simple to offer an md5, sha1, base64, etc... and this is a very proper way to publish it with your download:
Link to SSL google
Md5:
1d5920f4b44b27a802bd77c4f0536f5a
Sha1:
a9702bfaee969cd73b70febbcbc6918f7cac830a
(Hash values are just encoded string of Google.com)
------- Howto -------
To get this sum if your on your phone, for just a few examples:
-----:{[ ES File Manager ]}:-----
Go to the file your working on or uploading, long press on the project, scroll down to "properties", press the "show check sum" button, check one or both check boxes, and press calculate.
Once the check sum has been generated, use the save button and you now have a upload ready file.
-----:{[ File Expert ]}:-----
In file expert, go to your project and... long press on the project, go to details and it will generate an md5sum, this however is not savible.
This file manager has gone down hill since the newest update as of 10-06-2012 and I would recommend staying away from it until they work out all the bugs..
Next is...
-----:{[ ASTRO file manager ]}:-----
This is as simple as going to your project and long pressing, on the toolbar that popped up on the bottom menu screen, press the 3-dots on the far right of the bottom menu screen, and click properties and it will show you a md5sum but like file expert, no way to save it directly...
Other apps:
Checksum MD5 & SHA1
Google Play
Free
Checksum checker

Or you too can use the search feature in Google play to locate the tool of your choice. I prefer "hash droid" for its many hashes as well as "es file explorer".

Well I have thought of that too, if your developing on the computer this is far faster and much easier to do right there!

Linux:
Command line tools are best
'Md5sum /some/file'
Without the quotes,This will print the md5 of a file.
***note:
Devs - if your using another OS other than windows and do not know how to generate a check sum for it your seriously a developer?
That's all I have for this document. I hope that it is helpful and that maybe it may be used by all, as this is pretty important when your downloading on slow internet and not able to get super fast oc23 backbone connection or 4g lte or the likes of..

I can't install xml files
Please tell me? how i can do that
You cannot install xml files Think about it - its just a text inside...
edit: XML stands for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML
it's related to html as internet pages it's not a bin file which one can install
XML file is an input to another program and that would read the content and install whatever needs to be.
i have the same problem!!
The XML format files opend by document as defult, I cant install any XML format files.
Also in pocket PC the explorer is the defult to open XML files.
ad2master: Are you dumb, or just cannot read? Everything is explained above. I would just add, that XML is TXT, or INI file. It's just text prepared for a program to read.
When you got such a file from and what makes you think, that you can install it?
i think he's meaning is to load info in OMA xml foramat files that wince supports
like registery info ,network setting info,or file operation info etc.
We don't know it. Anyway for future reference: If you have problems with "XML file installation" provide us with example, we will be able to check what it contains.
Good news and Bad
BAD news = (jakubd) is a jack *EDITED*.
GOOD news = I have a fix.
WARNING = using this fix may make you kick yourself. I did.
PROBLEM = When you open the compressed file you see the content, some files and the important SETUP.XML Like years of Windows use has taught us, the SETUP file is the only one we need. It's like magic, we click and the preprogrammed file will do the rest. BUT all you get is TEXT. Thats crap.
CAUSE = You have WinRAR installed on your desktop PC, Don't you??
See WinRAR is telling your desktop computer that your .CAB file is a compressed .RAR file. It is but we will not get in to that. Confusion sucks.
FIX = You don't have to do step 1. but I recommend you do.
1. (on your desktop computer) go to START and to ALL PROGRAMS and open WinRAR. That was easy. Now click on OPTIONS and go down to click on SETTINGS (or just hit (CTRL + S) Click on tab INTEGRATION. On the left UNCHECK the BOX marked CAB. Say my name over and over while dancing on one foot.
2. Take the file you are installing (STILL COMPRESSED) and put it on your device. Use your FILE EXPLORER in your device to EXECUTE the still compressed .CAB (note: if you did not do step 1 the file will LOOK like a .RAR on your PC but a .CAB on your Phone/Device.)
SHORT ANSWER = do NOT uncompress the file on your Desktop PC. Just take the file just as it was when you downloaded it and put it on your Phone/Device. Use your Phone/Device file explorer to locate the file and execute it.
NOW = Kick your own *EDITED*
So going back to the very begining - you never ever install XMLs. Good explanation DJ_SirG - I would never guess that anybody at any occasion would try to decompress a CAB.
But as usual I'm asking myself - how many times people will as on forums "how to install xml file"... At least I have a place to point them to. Thanks!
DJ_SirG
Thank You very much for helping, problems solved now.
jakubd
I am just asking for help, you can help others if you want, or just keep your self away with your huge experience.
ad2master: I'm doing my best to help, but if somebody asks you "how to do X" and the person receives answer "you don't because it makes no sense" and then another one asks the same thing multiple times in multiple places instead of thinking for a while you can get irritated. Also when people ask hundreds of times the same question (like where is reset button) that are clearly explained in Wiki or were answered many times here, you can also get irritated and more over - they get irritated when you point the to the wiki or suggest HR.
And of course sometimes you can miss the point (like here) because of lack of information from the other side. I would never guessed that smb could first decompress a CAB file to install it and you need to know this part to understand the whole story with "xml" installation problem. It's like a person calling Ford support and asking "my car doesn't go" just to find out, that it run out of gas - it's so obvious, that you need fuel, they you don;t even take it into account. Same with CAB - it's so dead obvious to me that you don't decompress it before installation, that I would never take it into account.
So if you want precise and effective answer, check the wiki, search, use google, if nothing comes out and you think your are the first in the world with this specific problem: ask. But because you think you are so special, please try to be specific: give all the details that might be needed. answer all the questions that might help other people solve your problem. There is always somebody that might be able/want to help you, but you also have to help him.
I think The miss communication is when we would click on the .cab file to download it once it showed up on our desktop, it was a .rar. Like the file name was changed. So if you download XDA.CAB once the file was on your desktop it said XDA.RAR. So you click on it to find your .CAB file just to find .XML and let the confusion began.... Thanks for your help guy's and I hope this helps you. If it do, reply back with a quick word so we know the post is getting used and not deleted...

I Must say to all you.."A-Holes" That Spitted on us for asking stupid questions like that you guys bashing us this guy actually knew what we were talking about and helped us why you guy stood back and did nothing Grats buddy you answered my question. and it just goes to show not everyone knows everything about computers.
The only reason I found this fix was because I ran out of hair to pull out.
We are not all rocket scientists
I too had no idea how to install a .cab file with a setup xml file. Once the one gentlemen said to install the file with the file explorer it literally took as long as it took to open that file. I am really disappointed that I had a question and in order to get it answered I have to go through the abuse of being called names and being cursed at. I get enough of that at home. If you are going to run a web site that is a computer forum, you can safely assume that most of us do not have your knowledge; otherwise, we would have the web site. Nonetheless, thank you for your web site. My program is now installed. Merry Christmas, Lindy Wise
THANKYOU thankyou thankyou

I have read all the previous messages but cannot get the answer im looking for. I have a folder which contains text files and a xml file. I do not see any setup file for me to click on.
but as all the previous posters, you probably didn't download a folder, but an archive and you extracted it to see the folder and its contents. that was the mistake. the .cab file appears like an archive on the pc, but is the extractable setup for the phone. try it again by extracting nothing and copy the file to the phone and start it there.
Hi
there was a bug with this encryption software, Secubox v. 1.4.2, on the Touch HD.
When reading files from an encrypted volume the device was freezing, and it needed a soft reset to reboot. And only a soft-reset by pressing the red button in the device.
I sent an e-mail to the editor aikosolutions about that, and they offered me a beta version of the 1.5 Secubox, to check if the bug is still there.
I'm worried about something with this beta version.
Here is what they say:
"The beta has been signed with a test
root certificate (we need to sign it to avoid memory allocation
problems).
So, to test the beta, please, do the following:
1. Download and install the test root certificate from
www.aikosolutions.com/(...)TestRootCert.cab
2. After that install SecuBox -
www.aikosolutions.com/(...).arm.cab
I am looking forward to hearing from you,"
(I changed the URLs because i'm not sure I have a right to publish them...)
What I'm worried about is the "TestRootCert.cab"
Does anyone here know what it can be? Of cource I'm a noob, but rootcert makes me think about rootkit, and I wonder if this file can be a spyware sending them what I do with the software, or what file or kind of file I encrypt...Maybe just for statistics issues for them, maybe worse...
And I don't understand what they mean with the memory allocation...
Can someone explain this to me? Does is make any sense about Touch HD software programming?
Thanks.
No one knows what is a test root cert?
My guess would be something like the SDKcerts that allow an unsigned program to run. but why bother have you tried FreeOTFE for PDA? works well mounts Encrypted volumes .. has both desktop and pda inter-compatible offers TwoFish, AES, Serpent ect can do full partition encryption and its Free Open app http://www.freeotfe.org/
FreeOTFE4PDA doesn't have these problems
FreeOTFE4PDA doesn't have these problems - I switched to FreeOTFE4PDA; it's open source so completely free (unlike Secubox), and has a PC version so I'm not limited to just using it on my Touch HD
Take a look at: www.FreeOTFE.org
http://wptools.codeplex.com/
The Windows Phone Power Tools are a natural extension to the developer tools that come with the Windows Phone SDK. Instead of allowing you to only install developer xaps the Power Tools let you test update scenarios by allowing you to update an existing developer app. Instead of having to step through the IsolatedStorage file browser on the command line, the Power Tools provide a GUI to allow you to interact with your applications.
Looks like a useful tool. Thanks for the heads up.
On my LG Optimus 7, V7392, tha app crashes when accessing file explorer.
Deploying XAPs results with a crash to.
Thanks anyway
Yeah had a couple of crashes myself.
When adding files, it always ends up at the root folder of the isolatedstorage and it doesn't refresh the treeview so u can see the new files either.
Can somebody explain how to properly install this application?h
When I clicked on .application file it just installed
.appref-ms file in Start menu with this content:
http://wptools.codeplex.com/release...pplication#WindowsPhonePowerTools.application, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89698295f69f556b, processorArchitecture=x86
Clicking on it does not do anything.
If you have bug reports, I would suggest using codeplex as it has better tools to actually track that sort of thing in the issues section. Discussions are useful for any questions not related to specific bug/feature requests.
@sergoreg
A .application is usually a ClickOnce file and when you double click it should install the app. The .appref-ms extension is basically a pointer to the internally stored app location and it's quite easy to break this relationship. You could try uninstalling the app via the Control Panel and reinstalling via the .application file. It's rare but possible that you got a corrupted install.
If you're really savvy, you could locate where the app is stored in IsolatedStorage and double click on the .exe directly but it's a lot of work when this should just work for you.
This morning after a file update my Kaspersky AVG reported and deleted 7 files as containing...
backdoor.androidos.ginmaster.a
...one of which was system/app/settings.apk - I restored this file and data from a Ti backup (full scan in progress at time of writing)
others were zip files from my external SD card including
Lite ROM 0.9
and a few blob files from my CWMR backup directory.
As I haven't installed anything since the previous clean scan except from google app store and have not browsed any 'risky' sites I was wondering if anyone else had had similar reports that they consider to be 'false positives'.
New scan identified the restored file and deleted it again. !
Do I need this file ?
Where can I get a clean copy ?
I would welcome advice as to....are any other steps I should take such as changing account passwords etc.
Happened to me too!
Actually I had the same warning few days back, as Kaspersky warned me of the same virus that the game I play a lot Pocket Frogs has it, I had this game for a very long time now and I wondered what it could be the cause, deleted and reinstalled several times the same problem, until I gave skip. I wrote to mobage (game dev.) and even posted on google playstore, but it seems and I hope, it does not harm the device, not sure, did not receive any explanation from anywhere so far as what causes it or if it is true!
Only I have one cocern as the mobage sign that appears in the game windows lower left corner, is ever presently very faintly on my phone everywhre, meaning the homescreen or any programs we open as such?
Really confused.

Amazing Trick Requirement
*Android Device
*Opera Mini (It was only tested on Opera Mini but you can try on Opera Mobile and see if it works)
*File Manager(any)
What does the trick do?
I was derping around with my mobile
and found an amazing download. When I clicked on Download, I realised, oh BEEP
I was in Opera Mini, one of the worst download manager. One time your download breaks, it can't be resumed. I crossed my fingers and then hoped it does not fail. But it failed at 47 mb out of 50 mb
Fuuuuuuuuuu......
But then, I was so down, I decided that Challenge Accepted
I fiddled around and SUCCESS, I found out a way you can resume ANY broken download, even if you reboot your phone

For finding this trick(I hereby take no responsibility of your amazing data getting wasted trying or using this trick or your precious download failing or your device not able to run Bad Piggies or Asphalt 7 or Temple Run being laggy or IMEI loosing or Graphical Glitches or Devices bricking, blah)
Instructions:-
Read very carefully
1. Download anything IN OPERA MINI and wait it to fail (Here, we assume you downloading iamareebjamal.zip)
2. Once it is failed, DON'T CLICK ON RETRY and go to any file manager and to path of that file and rename it to whatever you like (eg: iamareebjamal2.zip)
3. Go again to Opera Mini and click on RETRY now.
4. As soon as it shows 0.1 mb downloaded, PAUSE it.
5. Go again to File Manager and you may see two files, first one which you recently renamed and new download file of approx 0.1 mb(or of size it was when you PAUSED it) [Paused file will have original download name such as iamareebjamal.zip]
6. Rename new file to whatever you want and rename the previously failed download to its original name [iamareebjamal.zip(paused download) -> whatever.zip] [iamareebjamal2.zip -> iamareebjamal.zip]
7. Go back to Opera Mini and resume the download. Download will RESUME from WHERE IT WAS FAILED. (f yeah) [Make sure Opera Mini isn't killed in renaming process as you may have to redo the whole process if it does]
8. Enjoy

No.
The op clearly states that it is for opera.
And other browsers (most) supports resume from break point. So its not needed.
