network monitor shows 2G, 3G and 4G (HSPAP)

The N7100 will not work with AT&T LTE. HSPA+ is the best you'll get with this device.

You are using 4G if that makes you feel better
4G being AT&T's marketing scheme for HSPA+ of course.

Depending on your local about 30Mbps in download speed. HSPA+ is what AT&T calls 4G, but it's actually known as faux G. LTE is the new standard for high speed mobile data.

If you have LTE Sim you could use "pta" apn

Yes, I think 4g LTE uses different sim. You also have to have the right plan code on your account. Since you owned Atrix before, you should be good to use pta APN. Check the thread I pointed to before.

AT&T Changing Default APN's... no more pta???

Noticed over the last few weeks some MMS issue's with my phone and many others in my area; e.g. sending/receiving, etc. A phone reset or quick airplane mode would fix for a few days then suddenly startup again after a few days.
Problem occurred again today and while I was trying to determine what the problem was noticed my APN was now "phone" versus the previously default "pta". Checked with the wife and a few friends and all were changed.... funny thing is, only Samsung phones are seeing the change as far as I can tell. HTC, etc are still using "pta"... possibly related to the JB update?
Called AT&T and after a very long discussion and escalation, it appears they are in the process of a natation wide migration from "pta" to "phone".
On a side note, manually creating a new "pta" APN still works and I don't see any speed, signal difference between the two, but according to AT&T this APN will slowly going away.
Would be interesting to hear from others what your APN is set to and whether you're on JB or ICS.
I can confirm on ICS it was the pta APN, but when I updated to jelly bean it switched to phone. I believe the settings are the same for both though.

Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Can you post the APN settings? My phone is still defaulting to WAP.Cingular until I create a pta APN. I'd like to try the phone APN.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
You should be able to restore defaults and force it to pull in the default APN its picking up, if you're not getting the proper APN I would check your account to confirm its been properly provisioned for LTE.
It's literally just "phone"... similar to before the pta APN was created, but with a few changes.

Yes, I still see quite a few references to the "pta" APN, so its obviously something new.
Running JB here and have the phone apn also. Wife is still on ICS, and she has the pta apn. So it has to be jelly bean related.
Phone here as well.

Mine says PTA, and I have JB 4.1.1. I am on the unlimited plan, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
So, what's the difference?
I am running 4.1.2 JB and still on pta.
Interesting. It was always assumed that switching from pta to phone turned off LTE. I suppose that isn't the case anymore. I think it's great news considering we don't need 4-5 APN's on one carrier. It gets a little ridiculous.

No, I don't think "phone" APN means no LTE. I looked at an AT&T store at the HTC One X and it had the APN sent to "pta", while the newer HTC One X+ had it set to "phone". Both showed a 4G LTE connection and gave about the same speedtest results. Also, from talking to AT&T tech support I was told "pta" was old, the new devices come configured with "phone" as the APN and that's what I want. I'd otherwise take the info from AT&T tech support with a big grain of salt given that many of their people say funny things most of the time, but after seeing the default settings on the HOX+ this fellow may have been correct.
I'd still love to know what the differences between pta and phone APNs are, if any.
I only get lte when putting in pta APN.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Phone here also on JB
LG Optimus G is also set to "phone". It sounds like "phone" is the way to go these days.
I dont know about everyone but in Los Angeles I'm lucky if I can get 5mpbs at LTE.
I read in the forum about how other people's lte speed is around 15-20mpbs.
I dont know if they only giving me that speed cause I still have unlimited data plan or if Los Angeles speed sucks in general
I have the unlimited plan also, im in south Florida and mostly i get around 30down 20up. My apn also defaulted to phone, but for some reason I do get slightly better speeds on the pta apn.

Unlocked m919, no lte on AT&T

I have tried going through all threads inT-Mobile S4 forums to find a solution but to no avail. I have a T-mobile S4 that is unlocked. I can get Lte on the tmobile network fine. However, when I pop my AT&T sim, I can only get 4g. The At&t sim is provisioned for lte, as it gets lte on my iphone5. I have tried various apn settings, the network selection menu also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running stock Tmobile rom,, flashed using ODIN. I also previously tried GoldenEye and GE 4.3 ROM.
Update: read somewhere that iphone lte sim needs to be updated with att for the android lte plan. So I tried using a friends ATT S3 sim with working lte on my s4, but did not get lte
Have you tried changing the Network Mode? Make sure you have LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) selected. This is right below the APN settings.

Dude I'm so glad that you posted this because I'm going through the exact same thing except that I do get LTE but my speeds are very bad considering that there LTE speeds.now I have the exact same APN settings as you mentioned above and I also have my s4 unlocked and on a custom ROM slimbeam latest 4.3 beta but its seems that att not give me full speeds and the reason I'm saying this is because my wife's s3 on straight talk att sim higher speeds on h+ and me on LTE

Make sure you give ATT an LTE capable phone's IMEI and that it is registered to their network. You can just go to the ATT store and use the IMEI of any of their LTE capable phones.
I've been doing some research on buying a At&t sim to test to see if my phone is truly unlocked. I've read At&t has 2 separate types of SIM. One for iPhone and one for the other phones. It's possible you have a sim card meant for only iPhones and At&t's system will only acknowledge the LTE if it was an iPhone (or something like that). Try going into a At&t store and have them make it work for you.

At&t has all of the t mobile m919 imeis stored in their system. I did not get lte when I first popped my sim in because I was still set on the iPhone 5 lte plan. Called at&t gave them the t mobile s4 imei, she switched my plan and 10 minutes later I speed tested at 17mbps down.

I called and gave then my imei but my speeds are still 3-5 Mbps on LTE and 5-9 on h+ and if they don't improve I'm switching to straight talk att Sim which is higher on h+ but cheaper a month.the only thing I can think that's happening is LTE was berly released here and there still working on getting all things right

I have a T Mobile Galaxy s4 m919. I got an Straight Talk ATT SIM card. I put the apn settings that Straight Talk gave and everything worked fine except for receiving mms pictures. I tired various settings and nothing worked. I called Straight Talk and that did not help. Finally I decide to try one more thing. I did a complete factory restore and reinterred the Apn settings that Straight Talk gave me; mms started working. I guess there were some settings that were blocking the S.T. Apn settings and the factory restore fixed the problem. I hope this helps.
Why are you using St and att services do you not have tmobile Lte where you live? I don't have t mobile lte where I live. I paid 6.95 for the sim through Walmart and pay 45 plus tax for unlimited talk and text with 2 gig of data. Net 10 and straight talk are owned by tracfone, so go with straight talk and get the att4g lte sim. My speeds, I can't answer because att has 4 g speeds in my town and with t mobile I had 2g or edge speeds.

Which APN should I be using?

[Q] How can I get T-Mobile LTE with an AT&T note 2 phone?

So I had a stock 4.3 mk6 then I decided to root and unlock my phone for the T-Mobile network. When I Odin back to 4.1.1 I unlocked everything went smooth and I did the aws mod, and was getting LTE with T-Mobile. So then I root it again Odin the 4.3 param. Tz to flash a 4.3 ROM. After the flash I don't get LTE no more. Went back to 4.1.1 to see if I would get it nothing again. So now I'm stuck with 4G and haven't gotten LTE since the first time I unlocked it.
So anybody know how to get T-Mobile LTE back on my AT&T note 2.?

Check the Phone status for a true indication of your connection. Depending on which ROM you flashed the icons will vary. Some of the ROMs that are N7105-based show 4G but mean LTE.

Yeah I do it only says HSPA no LTE. And In notifications it goes from h to h+ never 4g and I have DN3 ROM right now. With mk6 modem with no AWS mod.
Guessing you have the proper APN set? I get LTE on both epc.tmobile.com and fast.tmobile.com. Running SkyNote Air with AWS Mod.

DN3 Rom is based, off of the N7105 NOTE 2 that's the reason you don't see LTE. If you see 4G that means LTE in this ROM. I am also using this ROM with at&t and whenever I get LTE speed it shows 4G.
You can change it by changing your build prop setting to get lte. But if you do then your contacts will force close and I also read in DN3 thread that you will lose your phone app/dialer and have to use play store dialer.
