i think i messed up my phone - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I know its normal the processor to heats up when playing games but in my case i think it is not normal to heats up around 70 C. I really dont know the exact value of its temperature but im pretty sure its above 60C its really very hot!. It feel like its going to explode i tried changing ROM and kernel and the problem still persist.
It only happens when playing heavy games like nova 3, batman darknight rises etc..
i haven't encountered this problem before but since i like testing ROMS kernel out there it began heating up when playing games.

oh.. yes i know but before returning it back to warranty i want to know if is there any other solution. I've thought it is kernel related, im planning to go bact to stock kernel without changing rom to see how will it go but i dont know how

70C isnt bad, that is normal when running 3d gaming on the phone

Plain and simple heavy graphic games are going to heat your phone up. Especially if you are playing while charging, have a case on your phone, or over clocking. I'm running Franco's Milestone 5 kernel with JBSourcery 2.3.6 lte

Thanks guys. I was very worried i thought it is something wrong although my phone is new xd

Download an app that can display the true heat of the phone. It can't be 70c? If so, there's probably something wrong. My phone does not go over 50c I believe even when playing. If it's 70c you could probably fry an egg on it. I mean that's only 30c from the boiling point.

[Q] CPU Overheating/Prevention

Hi Guys,
I've recently got my desire back from a warranty service. The CPU was overheating causing the phone to reboot frequently, usually when browsing or playing games for a while. In the end they replaced the whole main board.
My question is has anyone had a similar experience?
I want to avoid the same thing happening again.
Are there any good widgets out there that tell the temperature of the phone?
If so what is a safe temperature?

I use system info widget, it also has some other nice features.
Actually idk what a safe temperature is for a device of this kind...i've never gone above 42° on normal use, and that was while playing asphalt oced @1384 mhz. Other than this i remember that i once forgot the phone on a radiator (lol) and it was 54° when i picked it up again, but still it didn't feel sluggish/unstable, so i must say i'm pretty impressed
Anyway people use to set the failsafe profile in setcpu @50°, so i guess anything above that can be harmful.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus CPU temp

Hello all
This is my first post and Galaxy Nexus is my first Android phone.
So, when i bought my GNex it was on stock and I use Stock ROM about 3 days. In that period he never get any warm - not even whet I play Angry Birds RIO for about 30min.
Then my brother install me latest AOKP ROM and Franco kernel - great stuff, but now I feel heat around camera
I use TempMonitor PRO app and this is my results :
all apps close, not starting anything - around 32C
Gallery, cam, some apps started and closed - from 38 to 42C
Playing games (Angry birds RIO, Space, Sentinel HD) - 48 to 52C
My question is this :
Is that normal temp? How does Stock didn't heat that much
Tnx and i hope this will help if someone have the same question
Hi,
Your CPU temp is absolutely normal,no worries. And while playing games it's even perfect.
How does Stock didn't heat that much
Click to collapse
You're not stock now...
After it depends at what CPU freq you're running, voltage, ambient temperature,etc...but here it's perfect.
I just posted in another users similar thread about their phone getting hot (he said "extremely" hot so hes likely going way past your temps). I too have found my phone to be warmer when running AOKP Build 38. I've run the Stock ROM and LiquidSmooth with Francos Kernel (also tried Provision briefly but it had some issues I couldnt overlook). AOKP gets the hottest by far for me (both at stock CPU and OC to 1420).
I plan on switching ROMs again soon and will take note of temp then
If you use a less feature rich rom you might have less heat issues.
I suggest using the trinity kernel together with a cm9 rom.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Your temps are fine but if you want to find something a little "cooler" try out different combinations. For me, CM9 and Trinity Stable 65 at 1344/384 stays pretty cool while gaming. Ultimately it is going to be a factor of your clock speed. You can adjust the frequency of your CPU back down to 1200 (1190?) and you'll see the temp difference. You might also see it slow down during certain UI interactions. Just play around with it, but your phone is still considered in the safe zone at those temps. They have thermal protection built into the kernels as well so even if something crazy happened your CPU would back off until cooldown and if it can't cooldown, it'll shut off for you but that would be a very rare condition. I've never had it happen and I've ran at 1650Mhz for a long time.
Tnx all for info. Great help!
Hmm it would be nice to get back to Stock but to keep root and maybe to install franco kernel... What you say about that?
It's iritating to play game 5 min or look pic in gallery and to feel heat in phone!
One more thing because I'm new in this stuff :
How to get back to Stock? Is it hard?
Your CPU is probably overclocked, don't worry, as long as it stays UNDER 55 degrees C, nothing will happen, if however, it goes over, it will burn your hand, if you're unlucky, it happened to me, with my GS II...

Hi,
Why under 55°C???
The stock temp limit before thermal throttling is 64°C and in Francisco's kernel it's at 75°C.
And the max before the CPU shutdown is 110°C...The extreme protection and the extreme overheating
So above 55°C no worries...In any case if you don't disable the CPU temp limit (like in some kernels->Morfic,Glados and eventually Francisco but not (yet) in his app) you're good and before 110°C->thermal throttling->lower CPU freq according to the CPU Temp limit.
His CPU temp is actually normal, don't say stays under 55°C....56/57/58/59°C,etc...to 64°C or 75°C,no problem unless you stay at 75°C during 1 hour...
With that you said the guy no longer used his phone for browsing 5 mins in the sun...

55 is a very low number and i would suspect most stock GNexs would go above that routinely under heavy load.
I've had my phone up to 66 and its nowhere near burning. Its warm to the touch and thats about it. Now if you are somehow putting your hand directly on the CPU (i.e. not possible) then yes that might feel much warmer.
Basically if you manage to burn yourself on your phone either its already fried or someone lit it on fire
After playing ShadowGun around 15min I get temp. around 65C?! That is really hot - for me!
I think to get back to Stock... This is way hot for me. What you say about that?
Can anyone post link how to get back to Stock? Guys this is my first android phone and if I get bootloop I will get a heart attack, really I will get one

Honestly don't be afraid of boot loops as you can most likely still get into recovery if that happens and all it takes it's a bad download of a ROM or forgetting that such and such kernel is incompatible. Be afraid of bricks and soft bricks lol. Although if you take the time to read before doing anything you'll be fine. Also just download a sick image for your phone from the tool kit to go back to stock. That's the easiest way.

Hi,
65°C after playing 15 mins of an "intensive" 3D game...I don't see where is the problem...It's absolutely normal...
How can your CPU temp will be at 50/55°C (about, for example) after playing 15 mins of game???
You hope what temperature?
Which cpu frequency?GPU?Undervolt?
Don't focus much on your CPU temp,if it's overheated->thermal throttling...And in extreme situation...just a reboot...
It will be the same thing with the stock kernel, you will get the same temperature under the same conditions (playing)...
Unfortunately that's the way it is right now with dual core phones. My phone regularly gets too hot to even touch when playing games for over 30 minutes. I called to speak with samsung about it and they pretty much brushed it off as normal. I'm running on cm 9 with a franco kernel

My Fix For HOX Tegra Heat Problem

Hi I don't know if you guys read my last thread about me being really wanting to extend battery life and reduce heat on my HOX. What I did was simply using Blade Rom + used only 2 cores instead of 4. Performance wasn't really affected (except for gaming) and I was really happy.
But now I really wanted to try something new and was tired of the Sense interface. I ended up flashing tons on mods and bricking my phone. So I had to wipe it fully and reflash. I installed Blade ROM v4.6. Two days later I saw that it had a de-sensing script which sounded nice to me since I was tired of sense. To my amazement (though i don't have exact temperature values), the device is now running much cooler and it feels much nicer in my hands. Still a little warm but much less than on stock or custom(with sense).
I believe Sense to be causing a big percentage of that heat ... well at least this can be derived from my observations. Im not really sure if this has been posted before but I saw a lot of threads dealing with this problem and I hope this helps someone.
P.S When I de-sensed i think its now using Nova Launcher

Theres something wrong with your HoX , my hox never gets *warm* or *hot* on regular use even with all 4 cores on, when playing demanding 3d games (nfs for sintence) it reaches around 35-40C max, while playing it being on charger then it gets *warm* or a little bit *hot* HoX shouldn't be getting *hot* if you're using it normally lol, only while playing 3d games on charger. At least that's how it is for me.
what heat problem??? heat is now ancient history ever since the JB OTA
your HOX or your custom ROM has a problem
Exactly. Now even when playing taxing games like GTA 3, GTA Vice City, NFSMW, the phone stays cool. I remember on ICS< the thing heated till 50 degrees + and shut off by itself ...Thank the lord for the JB update :victory:

You shouldn't be even playing intesive 3d games while on charge , that kind of stuff are killing your battery , not straight away but over the time, anyway once someone said about this *gaming while charging is same as $hitting while eating* =) , anyway it can also depend on your rom/kernel. I used to play games while on chrager due to addictivity of games tho never got really overheating issues, few times since i have it.

ViperX 3.3.2 stock kernel, didn't test it for gaming long period , but gaming seems to be smoother then back in ICS days for the time i tested ( up to 10 mins each game) , didn't overheat or anything durring this 30 min test period for me, tho it's expected if you play for example NFS MF for over a hour or so to get little bit warm, but shouldn't go over 35-40C off the charger, anyway you gotta remember heeting on hox can happen as well if you're in warm room , tested that lol, played NFS in warm room at my house , actually very warm room around 30C and in another room with maybe 10C in the room, phone was much cooler then in the previous room , as for playing it on the charge it got overheated in around 20 mins of playtime in the 30C room and in the 10C room stayed little bit warmer but not overheating. So conclusion = one part of overheating depends on the room temperature lol. which means hox should be literally unplayable with charger when the summer time comes =P (btw this heat test was done back in ICS days not JB , anyway JB seams to be much better for this matter )
- Edit - this was meant for this

Which Rom you are using?? R u on stock?
the problem is the extreme heat that generates while playing pokemongo...
I've noticed that once the phone gets hot the game starts running slower.
My friend's HTC M9 gets twice as hot but everything still runs smooth.
You can turn off Home screen buttons (those triangle, circle and square shaped) and your fps will be better. Tried and it works.
I'm with T-Mobile USA, software 20i was horrible with the game, when upgraded to 20o version, game got smoother but not as smooth as CM based ROMS. reason why I'm not with CM baseds are because some of reason youtube will freeze on HD playback but audio continues.
If Pokemon is life, go with CM based roms, it'll run so smoothly.
well tbh dont want to root i should not have to if its the heat that is the problem then well LG is bad
to the guy who said something about using a oneplus 3, it also has problems running the game smoothly also the network and gps strength is really poor for some odd reason (software problem) pokemon go is optimized for ios and sammy phones because of the popularity they have
All I can say is that my g4 has dropped many frames and become so hot while playing that I got a temperature warning and 2 minutes later the phone shut itself off
this is my theory LOL i dont know much.. when phone gets hot thermal kicks in so it lowers cpu frequency so thats why you see frame drop.?? and as for heat .. theres no fan in there so heat has to go somewhere i think LG uses the screen to disipate heat...
Guys my G4 never gets noticeably hotter than all my other phones, even I think others are worse. That game I don't have the nervs to play it long time, but for 5min it runs just perfectly. 90% of the games I've tried do.
The games than don't I thing it's more of a compability issue than weak hardware. If that particular game runs normal when the phone is cold there's no chance to see a drop down to 5 or 10fps just because of the heat.

Question Heat issue poco f3

I have the poco f3 i bought it since April i never hade heat issue until this past week the phone gets hot only from using apps like youtube and fb can i fix this problem
Some app must be running in background. Check the battery page in settings for apps with abnormally high usage.
I installed eu rom same thing the phone is getting hot over 54 c and 50% of memory is always full

Install better battery stats and check which app is using up battery
Am telling you I tried two different roms and you tell me check the apps that are using battery
Well thats the most obvious thing to do if you have a battery drain or heat issue. Changing roms because of overheating is like using a tank to kill a cockroach. You should have looked into which apps are using the cpu the most and done something about them. On top of that, youre being rude to the only person whos trying to help you. Im sorry to say but you wont be getting any help atleast from me
If you are not sure which app causing the problem, backup your data and reset to factory setting. you nothing to do with the ROM. the stock ROM is the best ROM you can have right now for both security and performance.
as far as i know F3 does goes warm quickly when use some apps, as for gaming it goes hot quickly.. i even checked it goes to 45-50 sometimes, it happen after i get 12.5
after up 12.5.2 the heat still goes but not as hot as before... i think it's matter of firmware & heat management kind of suck on F3
