I am getting an error when my phone tries to scan my external sd card. It says "preparing SD Card" for a second or two, but then it says "Blank SD Card". I looked this problem up on other threads, however, I dont think it would be necessary for me to format it. This is because one out of every 20 or so times it scans the SD card it actually picks it up and gives me the details about the card (space, etc.). But it then says "removed SD card". I am confused if this is a problem with the SD card itself, or if it is a problem with my phone's SD card slot. Any help would be appreciated because almost all of my info is on the card (contacts, documents, school stuff) Thanks in advance!!

Do you have another reader for the card? If so, pull the data, format through Windows and then put the data back on. (When I had issues it was something about permissions last time...)

I tried to do that and it wont work because on my comp it says that it did not recognize my phone. I reinstalled the drivers and it still wouldnt work. It somehow read the sd card right now (the phone did), so im trying to do some data backup and such if the problem persists, which im sure it will
He meant an external card reader. You would take the card out of the phone. Do that copy it all over to desktop. Format the card. Put the stuff back

If you're having MicroSD card issues and USB port issues I wonder if you've got other things going on.
How long has the phone not been recognized on the PC?
And did you try cleaning the MicroUSB port? It may still charge but not contact the data connectors.

Are you rooted? If so, what ROM?
I've come across this on Fresh 3.2. But I don't think it is the ROM's fault. I noticed I got that error every time I used the HTC Bookmark widget. For mine, it gave me that error then said sd card is damaged. (I'm using the stock sd card.)
Try to format your sd card. Make sure to save your files first, since it will delete everything. Also, when you go to format it, connect your phone as a disk drive, then right click your sd card and click format. Then select a long format. This will take a while.
Also, what I did was delete the Bookmark folder on my sd card. (Just in case.)
Lastly, check if the card is securely in the slot. It may have moved.
Hope this helps, let me know what happens.
Thanks for the response, but no, I am not rooted...I fixed the issue myself...I actually scanned the SD card for problems from my pc and it fixed and recovered the bad sectors ..My card is back working normally.

I had this issue on a 32gb card and this did the trick for me. Just go to Menu/Settings/SD&PhoneStorage. Then pull down the notification bar and tap where it tells you that the sd card has an unexpected problem, while it is working to solve it quickly tap Unmount SD Card on the previous screen a few times, this should allow you to format the card to the phones specification. That should do it.
I managed to get CyanogenMod 7 RC2 up and running. I noticed that I had a lot of junk on my SD card so I thought that I could back it up and then wipe it because most/all of the useful stuff was on the internal memory of the DHD. But, for some reason, my phone is telling me that my SD card is damaged.
I don't think that there is anything wrong with the SD card because I just did a copy/paste thing to back it up. Also, I've put in another SD card and it also says that it's damaged. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Run fix_permissions and reboot

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think I can do that. I can't put that on my SD card because there if I try to connect it with the computer, I can't mount the SD card or turn on the usb sharing thing. I'll be able to reformat the SD card soon because I'm borrowing a friend's micro sd card to sd card converter.
I tried Fix Permissions by going into recovery and advanced options, but that didn't work =/
Also, I remember now that I uninstalled "Goldcard Helper" because it said it was downloaded to my SD card so I thought that I could uninstall it and be able to clean up my SD card completely. Maybe that had some effect on this?
Got my friend's converter so now I can plug the micro SD directly into my computer. Oddly enough, it said I had to format it before I could use it which is essentially what my phone was telling me to do too.
I'll wipe it then see if it works
Perfect! I think it is working completely now! One last question of what I should do now that it's working. Can I plug it in, restore a few pictures I had, and just let Android take over from there? It's completely blank on the SD card so will Android know what to do with it?
So it's possible I might just be dumb and screwed up, but I think I might have reformatted something that I didn't mean to reformat.
I wanted to wipe my SD card because I found that there were random pics appearing in my gallery of people I've never seen before in my life (got the phone second hand but popped the SD card in that I used with my old Fascinate). Opening up My Computer, there were two different removable discs that were the SD card inside my phone and what I now presume to be internal storage. I backed up everything I wanted and wiped both the SD card and the other storage device via my laptop.
Here is the problem. Whenever I boot the phone up, there is a notification that says my SD card is either blank or not in a compatible format... It asks if I want to format it, I click OK, and everything seems fine... Until I have to reboot the phone and it does the same thing all over again. This is getting to be an annoyance because I don't want to keep deleting everything on my SD card whenever I reboot my phone.
Can anybody help me fix this?
Okay I definitely did something to the internal storage. I tried taking my SD card out and rebooting it and I am still getting the blank SD card notification. It won't let me format it. What do I do?
Try connecting the sdcard to your computer through a usb adapter, or any alternative to using the phone's USB-mount. Format it with FAT32. Put it back in your phone and see if it works. If not, you might have a corrupt sdcard. Try a different one if available.
What directory were the pictures appearing in? It's possible they were cached from the browser or some social app.
I dont know why but suddenly, my phone wasn't able to read the SD Card inside the phone. it just says, "Black Sd card" then he wants me to reformat it, then i reformatted it... still, nothing happens. it just says "No SD card insterted" even though it is inserted. i have tried my other spare SD card, and then it works but after a while, it wont detect the SD Card. what has happened to my phone?
okkkkk..

Try unmounting sdcard in Settings>SD Card and phone storage then again mount. If it's already unmounted then just simply mount it! If does'nt worked; take out your sdcard and rub slowly with a wet cloth and re-instert and reboot your phone.
If it does'nt works; try:
1. Insert sdcard in another phone and see if it is detectable or not.
2. Format it again.
3. Maybe your SD Card has been damaged by anyways, if no options help u.. try this: http://www.techcredo.com/android/ho...d-on-an-android-phone-without-losing-any-data
hope this help.. if u find this helpful den press Thanks

Rooted, Stock, SanDisk 32GB Class 4...
This morning I got a notification that it was safe to remove my SD Card. I thought that was random and funny so I went into Solid Explorer to see and it said that my SD Card was empty. I checked in the Storage option in the Settings menu, and it didn't pick up the card. It only said "Mount SD Card, Insert SD Card." I removed and inserted the card a few times with no luck. After restarting, the phone told me the SD Card was Blank. I clicked on that notification and it prompted me to format the card. I tried to format it but it didn't work. I just kept telling me the card was blank and I'd need to reformat it. Finally, after plugging the phone into my computer, it's not even recognized as a card on the phone. Can someone help me please? Is this a hardware issue? Did the card reader on my S3 just crap out or is it something I can fix with some software fix?
Thanks in advance.

I could be the card that has failed. Do you have a card reader that you can use to mount the card on a PC (without the phone)? Do you have another card to try in the phone. It is one or the other that has failed but you will have to try out the combinations to see which has failed. I have seen cheap cards fail and become unrecognizable. I think that is more likely than the phone card slot failing.

Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to suspect/hope it's something wrong with the card itself as opposed to the slot. Unfortunately I don't have my old card or another reader around to test (I'm stuck at work). I may try to skip out to buy a new card and see if that does the trick.
