Rom with a camera fix? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Are there any roms that fixed the issue with our camera where the white balance is based off the center of the photo, instead of white balancing where I choose to focus the picture?

Does it help if you choose spot metering instead of the default center weighed? I find that I'm taking much better pictures now. I just wish I could keep it as default instead of having to change it each time. I don't know it it will help your white balance issue.

This is what I'm saying. I set the metering on the corner of the picture for example, but the white balance is always based on the center of the photo. This was not the case on other phones I've tried and I noticed it instantly when I got the s3.

What build and/or rom are you currently on?
If youre on an early build like UVALEM or UVALG1, try updating to UVALH2. Or maybe try one of the jb leaks.
Another thing you might be able to do is update your camera firmware.
Open dialer and enter this:
*#34971539#
It should automatically open the Camera Std menu.
Press cam version check and it will pop up a toast with the cameras and phones fw versions. If they are different you can choose phone to cam fw write (rear). This will write the updated fw from your phone to the rear facing camera. If you are able to update you should notice some new effects and possibly other changes. Hopefully it will also solve your issue.
As with anything, do this at your own risk! It worked perfectly for me and others, and should be safe for you as well, but naturally things can go wrong.
I would reboot first btw. Just to clear everything out.

I always end up manually changing the white balance. For example, I've always noticed that pictures with flash have a blue hue to them. I always choose sunny under white balance if using flash to get an accurate color.

Old topic but non-solved issue...
I have reset the original Samsung firmware using odin with pit and low-level etc... no avail... the spot meter remained broken for me.
The cam firmware for my cam is ZDFF03 while the phone rom announces ZDFI02 with a greyed out Phone to cam FW write (so I guess the ZDFF03 is newer?).
I really want this fixed... I feel very annoyed my SGS3 misses this functionality because of a bug.
When using camera360 it even announces the metering adjustment is not supported by my phone for both ISO and Metering... so odd really.

Camera: Touch Focus for Defy

I learned how to use Touch Focus using the ROM MS2Ginger 1.0:
open the camera app,
press and hold the white square in the middle, drag it to wherever you want and drop.
Press and hold the capture icon, the square becomes green in the place you dropped it.
When you release the capture icon the picture is taken.
Remember to clean possible dirtiness or fingerprints from the lens.
I would like to know if there is a way to use this feature (or bring it) in other ROMs, and if it works in both red/green lens.
If you try please share your result.

IMO, the best & simple way for using touch to focus is Camera360.. This is the best camera application. Offers various cool effects & also touch to focus option.
Its pretty cool..

It works, and has many configurations, thanks.
Does touch to focus works in your stock blurcamera as I described?
Many camera apps support touch to focus, like LGcamera and Camera360.
But I hope you know that the defy itself doesn't support touch to focus, so when using the app it may appear that it is working but it is still focussing on on the center:

The next page the dev says that moto's driver doesn't support it and that there is nothing that can be done about that.

Only now I found the setting that I had to change in lgCamera, Touch Focus is working there too, thanks.
I've attached some pictures made with my Defy using focus in different objects, can you confirm if you can do the same?
Maybe it's ROM/lens dependent.
EDIT:
I've attached both reduced size and full size.
This manual touch focus is working for Defy. I'd tested it many times with difference objects far and near and they seemed to work very nice. I use the stock camera as it integrated with my blur galery very good and easily share or upload it to my social network apps.. This Defy even worked with the face detection and sometimes I even use it to take group of peoples without any issues.
can any of you actually tell me how to get touch focus working on any of the camera apps?stock,lg or 360 i can't seem to find the settings to change it to touch focus..

Try taking a photo like the one attached, with your fingers kept at the center and very close to the camera, while clicking on the farther object to the side (here my laptop). The camera will still focus on the nearer object, the fingers, at the center of the screen rather than at the object you clicked on . So touch to focus isn't working the way it is supposed to, it only just focusses at the object at the center of the screen whenever you touch anywhere on the screen.
I am on CM7 RC1.5, SOC Module. Touch to Focus probably won't work the way it is supposed to unless someone can fix the drivers moto has supplied for the phone. If it is working properly on your ROM maybe it can be ported
I don't remember if Eclair or Froyo has this touch focus function under stock rom. But I'm positively sure all gingerbread stock rom has it, however, it still dependance on Red lenses and Green lenses capability I supposed. Custom rom like CM7 or Miui may have altered alot which makes this function disappeared only the rom developer knows.
@scottie1973
for camera360:
go to definitions (wheel in top right), "Common Set",
make sure "Shoot by screen touch" is checked,
and that the "Shoot Mode" is defined as "Auto Focus".
for lgcamera:
you need to open definitions, and in the end of the list are a lot of checkbox to be selected.
In mine the words are not in english, but it's related to long click to Autofocus and capture.
For the stock is as described in the first post.
If after autofocus, the square is turning blue instead of green, means that the camera was not able to focus correctly.
@tejus.k.v
It works that way, even though I notice that there is a minimal area of a object for you to be able to focus at it. I don't know if this thing is perfect or not, but it works in the ROM I'm using (developed by walter79).

[Q] Gingerbread Vs. ICS Camera

Hey fellow 4G Touch Users ... So I tried an ICS build last night( Thanks to Phantom and the awesome Blazer ROM ), one thing I noticed is that the ICS camera is vastly better at focusing than the Gingerbread version of the stock camera.
I attribute this mostly to the fact that you have touch to focus on the main screen of the ICS camera, once I touched to focus on ICS it would lock the focus and take the picture as is.
In Gingerbread I don't see the ability to touch to focus like this, please someone correct me if I'm wrong or missing something. When I take a photo in Gingerbreads Stock Camera, it seems to re-focus then take the picture, which, most times, will leave the photo out of focus..... Personally I -hate- this.
With such a great camera hardware wise, does anyone know if there is a way to enable this feature, or get an app that does this? I've used Camera FX, but the options I see for focus that even comes close is fixed, which doesn't seem to be good at all.

I don't know whats wrong with your camera, but my gb camera has always had the tap to focus. I'm on Calk's ICS beta rom right now and I personally think it takes better pics than the ICS camera.. at least with the build I'm on now

Not sure ... Is there a setting for it? Tapping my screen takes a photo, I looked for a "Tap to focus" setting, but didn't see one.

It should be set automatically to tap to focus. I have mine set to auto focus and it still can tap to focus.. If anything try to uninstall and reinstall the app. Or you might have reflash the Rom. The Rom might have tweaked the camera

why don't you ask Samsung tech themselves for help? people here are trying to help from experience and are not getting paid by Samsung for helping out.
Have you tried changing the settings like brightness and special effects (found on the side of camera)

Problem with Gallery - Grey Pictures

Hi all,
I have a problem I hope the great minds here can help me with.
I'm using Slimbean 6.2. I have taken two pictures recently with ordinary camera.
Trouble is, the pics appear grey in the Gallery.
Interestingly, the thumbnails show the image clearly as expected.
I think it may be because the camera wasn't focused, the first pic was of my daughter on a fairground ride and the second was of a train (don't ask).
Is there anything I can do to make them appear correctly?
Examples attached.
You can see the thumbnails clearly, when I tap into the second photo down on the left, I get a grey pic.

I'll try that, but in Dropbox on my laptop they are appearing as grey as well..
I've just flashed build 6 and then 6.9 weekly and camera is working in both. I took a number of shots on both builds and purposefully made sure some were out of focus, no problems at all. Best option is probably just to flash the rom again, try the weekly it seems really stable and the camera is definitely working(as it appears to be in build 6).or You could try to push the camera apk first
Bam Bam Bam
It's odd, it's only happened on a couple of pics, others have come out fine.
Looking at the details, width height and orientation are the same as for other pics (which did work).
Exposure time is 1/2000 and ISO = 100
Size is 43.33kb vs others which are approx 1.5mb
I'll probably never know...
it happened to 2 or 3 month ago but I can't for the life of me remember which rom it was or how i resolved it, hopefully it will be ok now
No fixes available for that ATM!
Change to 6 MP and the camera won't take gray photos... That's the only temp. fix AFAIK!
Delete please

Thanks vin4yak, I'll try that and hope it doesn't happen again
Happened to me a while ago on viperx rom completely out of the blue. I thought it might be camera settings (even though I changed nothing at the time) but i reset them and it continued intermittently. Only for one evening, and it's never happened again. I hadn't changed anything else either, it just started with the grey pic rubbish, and then for no apparent reason it stopped! And never did it again.. I know what I've said doesn't exactly help a lot , just wanted to say that the 6mp fix might not be necessary.. Must be something else that caused it

Camera flash issues

I am having issues with nexus 5x, with flash on & HDR off a the flash is pathetic in a Dark room the flash goes off but all the photos are dark? Or when there is a little light with flash forced on the room is no brighter??? Help.
In a bright room if I force the flash on the photo goes dark? This makes no logic?
A your else having problems?
Think I have found the problem, when the battery goes below 20% the flash looses most of its power.
Same problem here, when battery goes below 15% and i take a picture of near subject, the photo is almost all black. Does it happen to someone other?
I think however is a simply intrinsic energy saver...
Here's another thread with the same issue:

What have you guys done about your flash issues? Warranty?
I'm in the process of warrantying now along with garryboy. Just waiting for Google to send me the refurb unit before I send them mine.

It may sound stupid, but use the WhatsApp app..
I tried every other app than the stock camera and it doesn't take the photo after/before the flash turned on..
Tell me if it did work to you ?
*** EDIT : another solution that worked the best for me :
Use the camera nx with the zsl ! It works great with the flash unlike the stock camera app..
it work like a magic for me ! thanks
