GNEX Unbrickable?

First, pardon my ignorance on this matter. Since Google released the factory imagines for the Galaxy Nexus does this allow you to restore the phone no matter how bad you brick it? Thanks in advanced

Pretty much, as long as some how you dont break fastboot

thanks, I was deciding on whether I should flash YAKJU on my YAKJUXX, knowing that there is a way to fix a possible mistake is reassuring

Well to do that you need to flash the bootloader.
If you screw up flashing the bootloader (like unplugging the cable when it's transfering the file), then you're dead.

Exactly.
On some of the SGS phones its possible to mod them to be unbrickable. Basically you can make it so it boots via USB (at least that's what I understand it to do)

Actually fastboot is a very safe protocol, it checks for sums before sending and before flashing so that the image is still intact. However if your bootloader is already corrupt on your computer or you dd (flash) some crap into the bootloader partition, your phone will be bricked.
I know a guy who wanted to return his HTC Desire HD. He replaced his bootloader with a porn image. I don't think I have to mention that the phone did not boot anymore

What is the method to fix a phone that is in a boot loop or something else.

No phone is idiot proof and as a previous Galaxy S II owner I have seen guys flash a i9000 (Galaxy S) ROM to their phone and then wonder why it does not boot and the amount of guys who flashed the partition table which also screwed their phones is unbelievable.
Bottom line is read the documentation and read it again and any questions ask on here and from there you cannot go wrong.

There is such a way, since i dont have the verizon nexus... i dont quite know where it is but im sure its a sticky in your android development. Or somebody with your phone will come in and post a link.. sorry just jerking your chain

doesnt work on 4.0.4, only 4.0.2 i believe.

Wipe happens when you unlock your bootloader (which you have to do to flash root), and you can't unlock without wiping.

You can back up your stuff via adb, unlock (wipe), and then restore via adb. It'll take a while, but it will be like it was never wiped.

As was mentioned before:
a) if you are on 4.0.2 or 4.0.1, follow the instructions here to root. Then you can flash CWM, backup via that, and then unlock your bootloader.
b) if you are 4.0.4, follow the instructions here to backup, then unlock your bootloader by following the instructions here (you do not need to do steps 5-13 under part D if you only want to unlock your bootloader), and root by following part E in the same post.

[Q] How I should root my Galaxy Nexus

I've searched and read many ways to root, install CWM and many of the tutorials I've found were differents.
So I decided to ask people who did it what they have used. Did you use the nexus root toolkit from Wugfesh? The Galaxy Nexus toolkit? Or did you use the CLI (Fastboot , ADB) ?
What is the safest way? The easiest way?
I would to root my Nexus. I did it with my Galaxy S and I realy think it worth it but I always feel a little bit unsafe when I know it could brick my phone.
So again, according to you, how should I root my Galaxy Nexus?

Just don't use a toolkit.

It LITERALLY takes 5 mins to root, flash custom recovery, and then a custom ROM. The "hard" part is installing the drivers on your computer.

I used the Wugfresh toolkit. It was very easy. You can also use the toolkit to flash roms. I like it.

Is it possible to root a stock Galaxy Nexus without installing a custom recovery? I have no real interest in flashing a ROM. I would like root access on my stock ROM though with as little modification as possible.

You can temporarily boot a custom recovery

If you have previous experience with rooting/ unlocking, using ADB and Odin, in case something goes wrong, then there is nothing wrong about using toolkits.
If you don't have previous experience, read a lot first, then go the safer way, use ADB.
Download the correct .tar file for your phone, download Odin and always keep them handy, when you tinker with your phone, you never know when something may go wrong

no. adb has nothing to with anything here. we're talking about fastboot.

[Q] Accidentally deleted OS/System?

I accidentally wiped my rom off my Maguro Galaxy Nexus.
Now its stuck on the bootscreen and I need help on how to push a ROM zip file to the phone because i dont have one on it.

Yes it would work, but he just has to push a ROM with adb.
Its just one f***ing command.
I told him what to do, but he's too lazy too Google it and I won't spoon feed him with a step by step guide. There are enough out there.

Sorry dude. I tried the adb method but it didn't recognise the command. Probably because I didn't have the driver or something. Thanks anyways.

Stop using toolkits. I almost guarantee that's how you "accidentally" wiped your system.

Some people don't have the time to annoy them with all the adb or fastboot stuff

Then you are saying everyone who doesnt want to learn command lines shouldnt have access to rooting and flashing new roms to their phone. Toolkits are easy and fast when you are in trouble and need to get back to stock. There isnt anything wrong with using them just because you dont have to put a command line in.

Do you read these forums? So many people could fix their problems with a couple commands, but they have no idea how to do anything because of these toolkits. They make the user lazy and ignorant.

Anyone coming into the android rooting, flashing roms, ect are kind of ignorant because they dont know everything. If we stay in the days of only using command lines and not coming up with faster ways to help our devices then that is being ignorant. There is just more than one way to do something. Just because someone uses a faster way it doesnt make then lazy but makes them open to new ways of doing things...

Using a toolkit is what is ignorant. With adb it is virtually impossible to "accidentally" do anything. Anybody who believes toolkits to be superior is either an idiot or too lazy to learn adb.

i would say that i have always tried to learn here, thats my goal , i dont know about other people and i dont criticize them , but it really frustrates me if i dont know whats going on when i am doing something. still TOO MUCH to learn:good:

Toolkit is only faster if you don't know how to use adb/ fastboot. Its only faster because you don't know what you're doing it takes me the same amount of time typing commands than using a toolkit basically I'm just waiting for the files to flash and move on to the next step. It isn't like when you're using a toolkit it can magically type and execute all the commands at the same time there is still a process being done.

well im an idiot fellas. tried using the wugfresh toolkit. got through the whole entire process and now im stuck at the bootloader screen (the one with the androids stomach exposed)
i dk what to do now. tried it twice. i can reboot into the phone from the bootloader but i still haven't gone back to stock.

DroidLife did a great write up when the GNexus was first released. Read carefully and you should be okay, just be sure to update the factory images as the write up was created in 2011
