How do I invert stock ICS SMS - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I was able to get it installed and working with root explorer but I don't see a way to make it inverted/dark themed.. Although it is still better then the stock touchwiz one..
Stupid samsung and not having pinch to zoom built in.

It won't work that way, after you put it in you have to set permissions to rw,r,r like this :
Read the directions in the thread I pointed you to it will explain how to do it and you could re-name the mms apk to SecMms for good measure.Lemme know how it works out for ya.Make sure unknown sources is checked in menu-system settings-security just in case and you have to have read/write permissions in whatever root explorer you are using so when you change the permissions for the .apk it sticks after reboot.

So it doesn't work to do it like this? It worked for the one I have right now replacing it.. but that one isn't inverted.
Also I need to have it as Mms.apk because that is the only way the swipe to message from contacts will work. Also I have a nandroid backup and backed up on my dropbox so its all good.
I'll try to do yours with the different permissions.

So it didn't work.. it forced closed when I tried.. I tried some other ones I found and they all had the same bugs as they had before I changed the permission just now.

If you are on an ICS rom and are looking for an ICS stock type messing app than they are different. The one you posted looks like a cm9 aokp etc.... messaging apk. They look different.A stock ICS mms.apk has the bubbles text. The .apk I pointed you to is a dark background with bubbles txt.Not the standard white background like on some of the ICS roms.

The reason I don't want the touchwiz one is it doens't have pinch to zoom on the pictures. The stock ICS one I have does. If it was holo dark themed it would be perfect.
The APK you gave me didn't even launch/work.

Hey I am still happy that I got pinch to zoom working.. Would be nice if I got a black themed one *and it is easy to do that with the built in one* but atleast I got the important part that samsung derped and didn't do.
Edit: For those that want to apk for if you are looking at this when I post it or via google I have attached it.
Pinch and zoom works, and it works with the contacts swipe to message as of posting of this. (I am on ICS)

Anyone know why the text inside my bubbles are light rather than dark?

[REQ]AOSP Messaging apk

I change themes quite often, but only one theme that I've come across for the Samsung Epic that uses AOSP messaging as opposed the the default "Samsung messaging" (I guess you could call it), is Engraved Blues. I've used that theme for the longest, mostly because it has AOSP messaging. It comes with WAY more user functionality than the limited "Samsung Messaging." Is there anyone that could put AOSP Messaging into a flashable zip? That way, I can use whatever theme I chose, and still have AOSP Messaging. I would really appreciate it if this could be done!
I'd even be willing to learn how to do it. I usually don't request, and tinker with things on my own, but I'd need some help with this one. If someone wants to walk me through the process, I'd be even more appreciative, because I wouldn't have to ask for these kinds of things!
I don't know what you mean by AOSP messaging but Impaler's transparent MMS are flashable zips. They both look and run very well. Give one of them a try. Just download and flash in CWM.

AOSP messaging is I guess stock Android messaging. At least that's what someone told me a while back. There are noticeable differences. Probably one of the most important is the fact that with default Sammy messaging, when messages come in while I'm roaming, they are 4 hours in advance. For some reason, this isn't the case with AOSP messaging. It's really weird. There are also options for vibration types, and you're also able to change the font size of the messages. None of these options are present in Sammy messaging, AND, there are no chat balloons; just color backgrounds.
The MOST important reason I prefer AOSP is because for whatever reason, I cannot pinpoint, whenever I run a ROM with Samsung's messaging app, the phone tends to randomly restart. Ever since I've been using Engraved Blues with AOSP messaging, the random restarts are nonexistent. No reboots whatsoever! My phone has been super stable with SRF 1.1.1 and Engraved Blues. I don't know why it causes those reboots, and I don't have my messaging set to keep a lot of messages. Maybe 50 at the most.
Impaler's transparent messaging is based off of Samsung's Android messaging app and while it looks awesomely sweet, I've had the same unfortunate reboots as it seems to be based off of Sammy messaging.
EDIT: Ok, just noticed this in his thread.
These apps are the 2.2 MMS app, only about 50 times better than Samsung could have ever made it...

Maybe I should give it a try again? I know when he first started posting the transparent messaging app series, I could've sworn it was simply themed Samsung messaging?

I haven't really had any problems with what you mentioned. I would say give it a try. I think you will be pretty happy. His messaging app is always the first mod I flash after flashing a new ROM or theme. If it doesn't work for you, sorry.
I have that same problem with Swype where when I'm roaming all my messages read 4 hours ahead of time. Gets really bothersome. I can't live without swype anymore though.

Funny thing is that before I installed the Engraved Blues theme, I thought that the Samsung messaging app was standard Android. If I hadn't come across the theme, I wouldn't have known a thing about AOSP messaging. And what's with that roaming problem? Man, that's so annoying! How'd Samsung let that one out of the gate with that glaring problem???

[THEME][MMS] MMS .apk with 5 themes UPDATE w/ FIX

I found this in another forum, tried it on the E4GT running EK02 and it works. If you use Touchwiz the messaging app will be removed from the dock through the process of renaming the factory mms.apk. To replace the mms icon hit "Applications" on the home screen, then "Menu", "View Type", chose "Customizable Grid" then "Menu" "Edit". Drag the MMS icon down anywhere left of the "home" icon. Hit "Back". If you don't hit back and you hit "Home" the icon won't stick. The home icon doesn't move, so you can only change the three to the left of it unless you have another hack. The MMS icon included in the APK looks like MIUI but I might try changing it. If I do I will update again.

**Update- Ok, I found a bandaid fix for those who want to use this with their current rom. Install SMS Time Fix from the market >>> http://bit.ly/vsmoUg << In the settings activate by ticking the box on the top of the screen. Click Adjustment Method and choose Use Phone's Time. Golden. You now have several themes for you message app. Tested today on Stock Deodex'd and Epic VeNuM roms. I tested all the apks.**
#1 Removed Temporarily
#2 Is Miui Icon http://bit.ly/txmSmZ
#3 Is ICS theme/no theme switcher/AOSP icon http://bit.ly/rLUgah
Let me know how it goes.
All credit goes to other people really. And thanks to crawrj and AbsoluteZeroGI for their time and giving me some ideas. I am looking for a real fix and will post it as it comes to me.

Send and receive are fine but it looks like the ICS version has a problem with the timestamps. The vanilla versions work fine. The file from the other thread has a MIUI icon, this file has a stock icon.

Originally I pasted and renamed as per the instructions on the other thread. But I used adb from then on and did NOT install the last time I pushed the file. Also, I used the push command, not the install command. Seems like it's just the ICS apk. Try asking in that thread. The OP there might know more about it. Thanks for trying. I'll have time to check it out later so if I can fix it I will.

Samsung stock icon is brownish and white. I can try to make it green though.
Ok, I tried the version posted in this thread and the other two apks in the other thread. All had problems listing the correct incoming time stamp.
I went back to my original apk and everything is working Ok again?
I'm running Calkulin's 2.0.1 ROM. That's the only thing I can think that might be causing the problem. I wish I could get the ICS version working. I liked it.
I did post in the original thread to see if I could get an answer there. I will update in this one if I find a solution.

Before flashing you can add it into the ROM yes.
Or you can just flash it.
So I tried to just take out the gallery and contacts apk's and install them on the device. The gallery worked fine but the contacts says "there's already a package with the same name already exists" or something similar.
If do this by flashing the zip will it overwrite the existing do you think?
Thanks again

What I was saying is.
Delete the same names .apk's in the /system/app folder.
Then just drag and drop the following /apps in my folder into the ROM then flash the ROM.
Aha, got ya. My only worry with flashing is losing what I've done so far as it's taken ages to customise all the sounds, icon positions etc. It's currently in a state of pure zen
Something tells me though, you're about to say "use <some tool> to back up first". in which case, will it remember where all my launcher folders, icons and sounds?

Ah!
When I get the phone I'll be working on a pure AOSP clone.
That would be fab, though there are some really nice things about this ROM, which I'm hoping will be installable since Samsung released the source of the ROM. The things I'd like to keep are:
Water unlock and quick shortcuts to phone/camera/browser
Smart alert - phone vibrates when you pick it up if you have notifications
Smart stay - tries to detect eyes just before screen timeout to keep screen on
Turn over to mute/pause (when someone rings or playing music)
Direct Call - Move phone to ear when on sms/contact and it auto dials
Power control in the notifications (better than any I've seen)
Power saving mode (toggles cpu/haptic/etc)
Scan with side of hand to take screen shot
Anyways, look forward to you getting one, both for your sake and mine
I'll be keeping the Stock Samsung ROM w/ AOSP look/apps.

Great work mate!!
I didn't install via recovery but renaming the Samsung apps with a .bak extension and rebooting gave me the standard apps.
The apps you provided are already in /system/apps but you need to get rid of the Samsung ones first (as you said) in order to activate them.
Only thing I'm missing is the phone application would be great if you could upload that??

Request:AOSP dialer

I'm starting to hate the stock dialer, it's clunky, the ui isn't intuitive, and things I do frequently take too many clicks. I liked being able to swipe between screens and just click on a contact to dial. I also liked being able to delete frequents and call log with just a couple clicks. If somebody could help it would be much appreciated!

You'd have to port the aosp contacts to get the dialer you want. You can try the apk from another rom but it'll probably cc. Just make sure its jellybean contacts but you know that. You'll also need the contacts provider.

used Root Explorer to push the SecPhone.apk and SecContacts.apk copied from my SGS3 to the /system/app folder on my GN2
on the GN2, i set permissions to rw-r--r-- for both files
reboot the phone
the pics below, show the dialer, contacts, contact view, contact edit and call logs windows. as you can see, the dialer is usable, but it's slightly misaligned. so far, it's been working for me without issue. fyi, phone has to be rooted ...

definitely not my work. all credit goes to graffixnyc. you can thank him!
Looks like themed stock, I could be wrong.
The aosp I'm looking for only has 3 screens, contacts, log, and dialer. You can swipe from screen to screen, you only need to click on a contact to dial, and clearing your log and frequents only takes a couple clicks.

It's definitely a themed version of the stock dialer. Has the AOSP look with TW features.

Did you ever get an aosp dialer working?

Nope, I kinda gave up until somebody that knows what they're doing fixes one. I tried several times to port one in, but just won't work.

if you're referring to the dialer/contacts pictures in my post, it's not the go dialer. i have the black png files that i simply copy into the stock phone and and contacts apk files so the stock dialer has an AOSP "themed" look. i do this for every ROM i flash to my SGN2 and SGS3

Theme-able MMS w/ Quick Emoji?

I can't seem to find the MMS I had on JBSourcery 4.3. It was the stock MMS with the emoji quick reply with theme options like colors and bubble text. Also, not the android faces but the iOS faces. I can't find this anywhere. If someone could pull it from their phone if they have it, or know where elseto get it, I will give you 100 internet dollars, thanks.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070504 Is this what you want?
I saw that is but no, those ones are already themed. The one I'm looking has options to theme from within the app menu. Thanks anyways though.

Download the Rom and extract the mms. Put in it system/apps and set permissions to rw-r-r and reboot. Also, rename your current mms to Mms.apk.bak

i have v4, and v4.4 and later in my archives. are you sure it wasn't in the gapps packages? will any of those work??
Found it. this is from v4.3 View attachment Mms.apk
rename mms.apk in system/app folder to mms.apkold. Paste downloaded file into system/app. fix permissions to rw-r-r, and reboot.

Yes exactly! I've looked all over for archived versions of old JBS ROMs ad couldn't find them anywhere. Guess that means I gotta start saving the ones I download. Not sure why this is so hard to get. This is the best version of MMS out there IMHO. Before anyone says something, of course I did an Nandroid backup before I flashed, but with 4.2 filesystem changes, I was unable to restore. BTW not my first rodeo, so I know how to install it in the system
Thanks everyone for all the help!!!
Don't forget his 100 internet dollars
