Modding touchwiz app icons - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps

There doesn't appear to be a way to change the look of the default touchwiz app icons from the lockscreen. If you have them themed in your rom/app tray, the change doesn't seem to take on the lock screen (like for the touchwiz phone/camera apps).
I tried to change the .png file for the stock camera. The change took, but when I try to open the camera app, it stops responding and closes.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong? I've tried using ninjamorph and that did not work, and I've also tried using an apk tool to pull and unpackage the apk.
What I want to do is to change the app icon to the default JellyBean camera icon.

1). using winrar to open your rom file (I m using winrar, maybe other unzip tools work fine too) but don't extract the files
2). Go to the folder system/app, find the camera samsungcamera.apk (I m using omega rom)
3). double click this apk file but dont extract it as well, rename your PNG file to tw30_icon_Camera, drag your PNG file to the below folder inside the winrar window
***drawable-sw359dp-xhdpi****
4). Replace the old one and winrar will ask you something, just choose yes. Wait to finish and close the winrar.
5). Flash your tailor made rom
FINISH!!

In a nutshell: If you are running an aosp rom, pull the framework-res.apk from /system/framework. If using sense I think you have to pull com.htc.resources.apk from the same place instead.
Then make three copies of the file you are using. Make one for backup then unzip the second one. You can then look through the unzipped apk under /res/drawable-hdpi for the images you want to change. Use your favorite editor to change the color of the images.
When you've made all the changes you want, use 7-zip to open (not unzip) the third copy of the apk that you haven't touched yet. Drag and drop the edited images into the same folder in the opened apk, overwriting the old ones.
Now you should be able to push this apk back to your phone.

[updated]Change icons in any rom

Hello there,
I found an easy way to change the icons of system apps[msg,music...etc] for ppl who don't know to use ADB
1.Now your ace should be rooted...install root explorer or any file browser that can copy the .apk from system/app.Eg..ive copied the music.apk to sd card.
2.now transfer it to your PC and replace the icon.png in drawable mdpi with your own file using winrar..[Every apk has a diffrent name for the icon..for some it will be ic_launcher..etc],so check it and replace
4.now place the edited .apk in the app folder in the zip file i've attached, move it to your sd card[don't put in any folder]and flash in recovery...
I think most of the people know of this site?
Even I got in touch with it on the first day of visiting SGA forums.
but you cant change the icons in app drawer using uot..you can do that by following my steps......
Oh, had no idea. Was just generally talking about the site, i installed Go launcher on the first day so i havent got in touch with TW xD

i use MyFiles.apk and now it doesn't show MyFiles, just replaced the icon then the apk using Root Explorer and rebooted, disappeared. what to do?
you cant just replace your apk in root explorer...follow the updated method above
I did like you say up, used ur zip, replaced the icon then inserted the apk in app folder in the UOT zip and entered Recovery mode and installed it from there, still doesnt' appear, maybe because i change it 1st, and didn't do backup :7
try changing something else..make sure your using .png of same dimension
Tried it with memo.apk an nothing happen.

Change Icons In App Drawer?

did have a totally bog standard (stock) desire hd til yesterday, then i decided to root it and installed Revolution on my phone.
I've been using Desktop Visulizer to change icons on my main screen, but does anyone know how i can go changing the icons in the app drawer??
Any help....much appreciated.
matt
Install root explorer, go to system/app and pull any apk u want to change the icon of, open archive of the apk (with 7zip, winrar, etc), find the icon png and edit to your taste, save your changes and update archive, put back the apk file and reboot your phone.
u can find the icon png in res/drawable-hdpi folder

(Theming Question) Regarding Root Explorer

So, I'd like to make a few changes to the app icons...for example...browser, tw launcher, email, etc.
On my previous phones, I've always just flashed them thru recovery...but with the problems some users are having after flashing custom kernels (with cwm), I would prefer to stay on the stock kernel for right now.
Could I just use root explorer to drop the replacement pngs in the apk files in system/app?
Any info would be helpful....
Thanks
Try to pull the apk to your computer, use something like 7zip to open, edit your images, update the archive, copy to your SD card, sign using zipsigner 2 and install.
Let me know how it works out
Just drop the apps
First move the app into comp
Extract with 7zip
Change the pngs (theyre in res foulder)
Unextract your files by opening file archive and dragging and dropping res folder
Use root explorer to replace app

bootloop trying to replace framework-res.apk

I've been getting this bootloop for the last 18hours of trying
I'm on stock ROM, with Gin2Ics V1.0 theme, and using Overdose1986 Notification toggle, but I change the wifi icon of Overdose1986 using ApkChanger and it works..
and then I want to change the battery icon of FlorinXstyle (Gin2Ics V1.0) to something like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472766 so I tried decompile the framework-res (should be from Gin2Ics theme) then put some new battery icon from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19938404 , then re-compile and i got bootloop..
Am i missing something or doing wrong here? well actually I just read some of the post here on how to decompile/recompile framework-res but mine always ends up in bootloop.. can somene help me thanks
I think just to replace the battery icons you don't need to decompile, just open the framework apk with 7 zip or winrar, and paste the images in, checking the names match. There might bee more or less, but so long as the names match, shouldn't be a prob.
When done, install as you have been.

To replace images use WinRAR, rename .pngs you have the same as they are in drawable-hdpi (stat_sys_battery_0-100, stat_sys_battery_charge_0-100 stat_sys_battery_charge_full, stat_sys_battery_full, stat_sys_battery_unknown) if they aren't already renamed. So open framework-res.apk with Winrar, go to drawable-hdpi, click Add button, choose all the icons you want, click ok, choose Store compression method and OK. Then you shouldn't have a bootloop.
It won't change from apk to any other file.

I did what you said but no luck, or maybe I'm using incompatible files but all I do is change the png files, and they have the same name already, I'll call it a night maybe try something tomorrow thanks

Are you changing permissions when you put the framework-res back in the framework folder?
yes I'm changing permissions, rw-r--r--, but always ends up in bootloop, I read somewhere post that after changemjg permission and move to framework folder, if phone reboot itself then there must be wrong in what i' m doing, cause thats what happen after I move the framework-res to framework folder, after finish replacing the one in the folder, phone shutdown and start to bootloop..
