I had a Rezound and swore it had the worst battery life ever...until I got this phone. I went to dinner and the extended battery was at 20%. I looked at my phone maybe 10 minutes tops during the first hour, and it died on the table. Horrible.
At least I'm not the only one. soon as verizon gets another phone I want I'm selling this thing. I know four other ppl with this phone and all their battery's suck. I mine went dead while watching YouTube with my phone connected to the wall charger

I bought the extended battery on sale with a discount for about 20 bucks. I'm carrying a spare battery in my wallet. The back of the phone is so easy to pop off and on...I'm keeping the slim form and have 4000mlh worth of juice
I'll see how long this last before I think about extended batteries or getting rid of the phone. Lol.

my phone is a verizon, never had a phone die while being charged.
here's my two cents, i switched from sprint to pre paid tmobile. I honastly believe GSM phones handle lower signal better than CDMA phones, I do not know if this is fact but it seems true to me. With my sprint phone at work(constantly one -two bars) battery would drain by lunch, on the other hand my gsm galaxy nexus( which only gets edge inside) would last the day and with moderate usage as a mp3 player.
Take my gf's sprint iphone she gets only 1x at work and her mighty iphone needed the case with the battery to get through the day, while her friends AT&T iphone rock solid

Believe me I'm the last person who will complain about battery backup or create a topic about it, but yet I'm doing it! Seriously, Samsung helped us to be greedy, with awesome battery backup on 4.1.1 ROM, and now they took it away! It really doesn't matter whether you agree or not, 4.1.2 does drain battery much much faster than 4.1.1 ROM. I mean why? Why on earth you gave us that great backup at first and then took it back?
I really don't wanna go back to to a previous version, but I think I'll ultimately have to do that. Honestly I don't see any improvements in 4.1.2, other than that volume key photo taking option in 4.1.2, and of course that SDS fix.
Anyone from Samsung seeing this? What would you say? Why this sudden change of mind? Have any answers to that?
This is what I/we used to get in 4.1.1,

Dude, you're complaining with 1d 19h runtime and 6h screen on? I could never, ever get that out of my N2, no matter what version, kernel, tweak or what not... There seems to be a huge manufacturing tolerance in quality of battery or whatever else. So I just simply stopped worrying about it, charging the thing overnight and just got 2 spare batteries & additional charger for € 20. My peace of mind is worth that
Why don't you want to go back to 4.1.1 if the update has hardly brought any improvement?

Not being funny but knowing that you're getting much less battery after the update does play on the mind and it is clearly a software issue which we shouldn't have to endure.
Unlike many on here, the one and only reason I got the note over the s3 was battery life. I would rather much save a couple hundred and have a more comfortable phone to hold in the s3 if I knew the battery life would get messed uo after a software update.
I also don't want to carry seperate batteries around and swap out. If I did, I would have stuck with HTC to be honest.
I just want the immense battery life of 4.1.1 back but without sacrificing new features like the browser text reflow.

Well when I compare battery life I do it with my own results. It's completely invalid to compare one's backup with others as usage pattern is different most times.
So, on 4.1.1 I got 9 hours screen on time, half dozen times, on 4.1.2 it touched 8 hours once! This is just bad.

Totally and completely agree with you, and that was my point.
Either this is a game by Samsung, to level down us to S3 users, or they are simply unable or ignorant to maintain the continuity of a good thing.
The thing is, technically Note 2's battery backup was right, because on S2 we used to have 4 to 4½ hours screen on time, and that was a 1650 mAh battery, so it's almost doubled on Note 2, so it's basically normal to have 8 hours screen on, nothing ultra ordinary I'd say, but I can say what we are getting now is just BAD.
'Swyped' from my GT-N7100
I have to agree completely with OP. I have been only using the stock samsung roms & i too find the battery life to be worse on 4.1.2 XXDMB2 (by approx. 10-15 %) compared to 4.1.1 roms. Although, i like everything else about the latest 4.1.2 better .
I can't possibly be the first one to create a thread about this. Yet I have been searching and can't find it. So here I go.
I obviously have a T-mobile GS3 T-999. I was on stock unrooted 4.1.1 just fine with great battery life. I updated to 4.1.2 stock unrooted and now my battery life is terrible. I can't even come close to lasting all day like I could before. My habits haven't changed. I haven't installed anything else since they update. I have rebooted and power cycled several times, no change.
Anyone else have a reduction in battery life since upgrading to 4.1.2? Is there anything I can do without going beyond the usual? I have been using power save mode since I bought the phone. So it was that way before and after the update.
Rooting and flashing a custom Rom will increase battery life tremendously. If you don't want to root then disable all the bloat ware. This will speed up phone and increase battery.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Haven't been able to get awesome battery life on my end either. Played with all kernels available even going backwards to kernels I know gave good life on 4.1.1... Something internal is causing it, it seems. I don't get wake locks that I don't cause my self, just battery drops faster now compared to what it did before.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I suspect that the premium suite, which added multi window and a bunch of new apps and features, is probably causing the increased battery usage. With the increasing amount of bloat Samsung is stuffing into their ROMs, decreased battery life is expected.
The life on 4.1.2 is terrible over all not sure why best bet would be routing flashing a custom rom or you could try playing with kernels but those are tricky business. I feel 4.1.1 Roms get the best battery though I'm on 4.2 and not very good battery life on that either
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I flashed a number of 4.1.2 roms and found out that for some reason the cpu stays at the max clock constantly. No clue why.. Maybe that's the issue?
Doesn't matter to me at the end since I got a lemon

That's terrible on both accounts lol. I usually get 18 hours with that battery time. I remove all the bloat I mean all of it. I have maybe 20 apps total in my app drawer, I disable all the sync besides contacts, gmail, and calender. But still have drain. On stock kernel it was bad and deep sleep was hardly achieved with no apps running in the back ground. I'm gonna Odin root66 md5, tomorrow and see if it helps. Other then that I'm going back to 4.1.1. I'll report back tomorrow or Friday with results.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Well, I don't plan on rooting or using a custom rom any time soon. But I am hoping to find out what I can tweak to get my battery life back to what it was. I am guessing I don't have the option to go back to 4.1.2 using Kies. And I hear that 4.2 has poor battery life as well, so now I don't have that to look forward too either.
I'm on Stockorama V1 and still had 50% battery when I went to bed this morning (I work nights). The first day after I flashed it the battery was pretty bad, mostly due to wake locks from the Media Server, but that was an easy fix with an app from the Market. I would actually say my battery life is a little bit better now than it was on 4.1.1.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I don't know if Sammy ever solved it, but iwith past updates the media scanner would hang up and drain batteries quick. Some had their phones heat up.
Another culprit can be that when going to a different android version, it may handle some data differently, causing hang ups when it runs into something they didn't plan for.
In either of these cases, its best to do a full wipe (backup first) and then reinstall your apps. Don't restore them from backup as that's just like not wiping in the first place.
Then wherever possible, import your data through the app itself. Not many do this but some do. Contacts is one.
I know it can be a pain, but it can help a lot. Plus you wind up cleaning out stuff you don't use or need anymore.
I always wipe data when updating , unless its to the same android version (4.1.1 to 4.1.1). Going to 4.1.2 shouldn't be to big a deal, but you never know.
Another thing to try:
If you verify media server/scanner is a oroblem, copy all your music, pics, vids, etc to your computer and wioe it from the phone. Then reboot and wait a few min to see if its acting ok. Then copy your files back, wait a few min and reboot again. Hopefully it'll calm down after this.
Hope that's more helpful than confusing!

You wonder why carriers take so long to release an update because usually people would start complaining. It's not 4.1 so don't expect the same thing, usually when there's an update things are the never the same. It was the same thing the jump from ics to jelly bean, when creating voltages for batteries I don't think companies anticipate all the extra stuff a update can bring this is still kinda of an ics phone.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
My battery life went up so much. I'm on stock but rooted. I usually drain my battery before the day is over. Now I'm going over a full day.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I was able to get 32 hours on average with CM 10.1 and KTunez kernel. I recently switched to the Stock latest TW and I'm seeing 22-24 hours with the KTunez kernel. I am rooted and removed all the bloatware.
I'm running stock rooted for now. I hardly have even noticed any battery drain on my phone. Stock Battery, nothing really battery-heavy, no customer kernels. However I dont really see the use of this Sidebar thing. Its like
HAY GUIZ LETS PUT THE UBUNTU UNITY BAR ON ANDROID HUEHUEHUEHUE SO CLEVER!
But in all seriousness, I seem to be running just fine. So I cant really vouch for Multiwindow being the culprit. I may run some tests though.
I don't remember what it was before. But usually by the time I went to bed, it was in the 40's and sometimes the 30's if it was a heavy day for me. Now it drops into the teens.
I see that as of today, the phone has been discharging for just under 4 hours and is already at 88%. And I haven't even used the phone in any way today before checking it right now. Shows "Google Services" as 41% of the battery use. But that only shows CPU total at 33 seconds. Next item is "Device Idle" at 15%. So I don't understand why it's down to 87% in 4 hours of basically doing nothing.
Though I don't think that info alone means anything to me right now as I don't recall what that info was like on 4.1.1, only that my battery % by bedtime is significantly lower than when on 4.1.1
I was just curious how many other Tmobile people experienced the same thing when going from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. All stock that is.
I don't have time to deal with wiping the phone clean and starting over. But I may try that someday. My phone never gets hot and I never see the CPU getting much use at any given time.
I do wonder about facebook though. I think it also did an update of it's own around the same time I did the 4.1.2 update. I will check into that.
I have found battery life to be about the same, at first it wasn't that great but now I was able to get over 2 days with minimal use 4g on all day. With normal I use I still get better battery life that 4.1.1

Well when I first updated it was stock and battery life didn't seem very good but I've since flashed a custom rom and all is well. Also I think stock rom got better battery with use, maybe had to settle in? But within 3 days of using 4.1.2 my battery was back to normal again.
Ok so i have a DNA and i have a Gnex im having trouble deciding which i should keep for the long run. Obviously specs are on the DNA's side, but customizability is with the Gnex. My Gnex is rooted running Muzzy's latest 4.3 build im using Tinykernal also i am using the hyperion 3800 mah extended battery. Will this combination last as long as my dna throughout the day if not longer, and will the phone be able to hold on to somewhat of the same signal that my dna has? Thanks.
i'd hold on to the Dna cause it has better hardware than the gnex
and i'm sure the DNA has decent development no?
In terms of updates Gnexus wins all the way to KLP. Knowing HTC practice, you may not even get KLP

The DNA doesn't have support like the gnex obviously, but the DNA does have that pesky Sim card error problem that is very annoying.
comments on battery life and signal strength between the 2? Like I said I use the extended battery I know the stock nexus battery can't last all day to save its life.
Friend of mine has the DNA and I've never heard him complain about battery, and he's outlasted me before too.
Development? I think they have some decent stuff going on, not sure.

Thats if you live and breathe your phone. I hardly ( and this is the MAJORITY of the users) ever go past 1:30 display time. To anyone who goes over this "average" time has serious issues and should stop to think if most of the interaction is between a computer or actual people. If you view movies and things like that, thats another story but equally annoying. Its a small screen, I can't possibly see myself enjoying a movie in a 4.65 inch screen as a lot of the details are lost but thats just me.
On topic: The GN is a great phone but only due to the work the developers around here. You will receive biased opinions here and thats mainly because many if not most of us have not had a first hand experience with the DNA. So with that said, go with the GN lol

The DNA runs circles around our phones spec wise, the gnex is getting old, given the gnex will last a long time even after google drops support for it, but your DNA will probably be a device you'll want to use more, bigger screen, better specs, and the development is just fine there.

Serious issues for using your phone for more than 1:30 a day? Browsing social networks and texting casually throughout the day will easily go past 1:30 screen on time.

With all your same apps installed?

The DNA gets 2-3 more bars than the Galaxy Nexus, but that doesn't mean better download/upload speeds. The RAZR M usually has the same signal strength as the GalNex, yet 10 times outta 10 the RAZR M beats the GalNex in download speeds... Though ping and upload are about the same. So if you're concerned about that, run speedtests on both in a Verizon store.
I don't like the non-removable battery and storage (if you're going to limit the storage with no SD card option, at least make it 32 GB....), and I really don't like the plug over the micro USB port. Also, 9/10 or so used DNAs on eBay have scratched screens... Not sure if that matters to you, but yours will probably fall victim, it's apparently not Gorilla Glass.
Also, I'm done with HTC, ever since they ****ed over the Thunderbolt owners with updates and releasing the kernel source, I think a lot of us have been weary. How many phones can you say have 4.3 on stock or a ROM? There's the Google Play edition phones, the Nexus line (save the One and S).... Not much else I'm sure. Most devices don't have it anyway.

Hey everyone,i
Im thinking of getting a Note 2 (coming from a S3) in the next couple of days. Im thinking this is going to be a great device as I have a Note 8 tablet and love the flexibility I have when using it for work or school. For those that still have the Note 2, do you still think its a great phone to have? Do you think that its still a good phone to get?
Some background information. Im looking to use the Spen to take notes in meetings, class and impromptu situations. I use One Note and Evernote, so it would be good to have my notes sync, and im looking for a phone that has better battery life. My current S3 is have a good day if it last more then 5 hours (usually little under 2 hours of screen time), and I heard that the battery on this phone is great. I have several emails/apps sync due to work so im sure is helping to drain my battery, but am hoping the Note 2 will be able to handle it. Im not looking for a magical battery, but if it can last at least while im at work (will be thrilled if it lasts 12 hours)..
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Sounds like it will meet your requirements. Im getting at least twice the battery life you get with your s3. The spen is cool, I rarely use it. My note 2 is about to go up for sale. Im getting a g2 or nexus5. Pm me if interested.

I recently upgraded to the Note 2 from a Galaxy Nexus and am Loving this phone. I've used it for a couple of weeks now and have not encountered anything to change my opinion. My setup consists of the stock 4.1.2 Touchwiz rom w/Nova Launcher & LMT, stock battery, and an Imak Cowboy textured case.
Coming from the GN, I am well aware of life with a crappy battery. The stock 3100 mAh battery in my Note provides at least 6hrs of screen on time on a bad day and nearly 9hrs on a good day (strong signal and available wifi). I can typically wring out 8hrs of screen time and 16hrs total time from this 1yo battery and stock rom (unofficial 4.3 seemed slightly less efficient).
What I love most about this phone is that it's nearly perfect out of the box. There is zero lag, no matter what or how many apps I have open, the battery life is phenomenal, and the screen looks great and is the perfect size for me. I only recently flashed a 4.3 rom (Slim Bean) because I am so accustomed to running the latest, most feature packed roms on my previous nexus devices...went back to the stock 4.1.2 rom after only one day because I missed some of its features.
I was hesitant to get the Note 2 because I used nexus devices since the Nexus S and was concerned about bloatware and lack of support or custom roms. Ended up making the jump and then found out that I don't need any of the mods that I found essential for the Nexii (Nexuses?). With you coming from the S3, I think this is a no-brainer; the Note 2 is similar but bigger and far better. Also, used Note 2 prices are coming down on Swappa and Craigslist. Ebay prices are still high, but I think this is still a better bargain than the Note 3 at its current price.

Thanks Braneless! Thats what I am hoping for. I finally found one on Swappa that I bought and should be getting it in a couple of days. Im really hoping the battery does last as none of my previous phones got great battery life no matter what I did compared to others (Roms, kernels, tweaks, etc).
Im optimistic that it will work out, thanks again.

Since battery is one of your concerns I just want to throw in there since it's a used Note that it might be due to a bad battery. I have my Note since Dec and my battery does not last as long as it once did. I still get good usage out of it tho. Went from 5-6 screen on time with 3g/4g or 8 with wifi to 4 on 3g/4g and about 5 1/2-6 on wifi. It also drains faster while on idle but still outlasts my other phones (EVO LTE & GS3).

Thanks Ray....the one I got from Swappa had 2 Anker batteries and I after adding my programs and various accounts/syncs i got around 7 hours of usage and 3.5 screen time. This was completely stock, so i am going to test a custom kernel then possibly some custom roms and go from there

Thanks! Im going to play around with it but im still eyeing the Note 3. With my thinking of leaving sprint by next Summer, I might stick with the Note 2 or move to the Note 3 (thanks to Swappa) until I make my decision next year.
