[Q] Stuck on bootloader screen!! No recovery! - HTC One X

I previously tried replacing my ROM which started this whole problem, i already had a custom rom installed and tried replacing it with a newer version of the same ROM, didnt work as my phone was stuck on a boot loop, ive read through multiple posts and followed instructions and now my phone dont go past the Boot screen and says relocked, i have no recovery option and when trying to flash a recovery.img file it fails. ive read about RUU files but i dont have filefactory premium, so if anybody could explain how i can fix this issue and get my phone working again id highly appreciate it
This is currently the screen im looking at:

< waiting for device >

Am i able to charge my phone at boot without recovery?

Man, just follow this steps:
1- from bootloader screen go to fast boot then select powerdown
2- wait a minute or 2 till its totally shuts down
3- plug in your charger
4- leave it for an hour or so (just be sure the screen remains off and the red lid is on for charging, if not then repeat the previous steps)
5- unplug your phone
6- power on your device, from bootloader screen, select fastboot
7- plug in your USB between your PC and HOX
8- redo the faild step
hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, i finally got recovery back, my phone loads up to the homescreen but a triangle with an ! inside shows up and reboots, ive tried flashing my RUU, i can flash 'boot_signed.img' successfully but when i try flash 'system.img' it says (number of bytes) cant be allocated.

It is possible to boot directly into recovery without flashing it
What You need is fastboot binaries and image file for recovery.
1. reboot device into fastboot mode.
2. open CMD or bash
3. run this command: "fastboot.exe boot recovery.img"
this saved my life once

Bricked phone??

OK, think I've bricked my phone...
Did step 1, it completed fine...BUT it didn't go back to bootloader it just stays on the HTC logo on a black background...I take it I was meant to start all this with the goldcard in the phone with the updateroot.zip file on it??
Started again and now get this in a Windows 7 x64 command prompt:
INFO[RUU]WP,radio,100
FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)
sending 'zip' (137446 KB)... FAILED (command write failed (No such file or direc
tory))
Rebooting to bootloader...
rebooting into bootloader... FAILED (command write failed (No such file or direc
tory))
Step 1 complete - now use the bootloader menu to enter recovery mode.
To do this, press the power button, wait a few seconds, then use the volume keys
and power button to select the RECOVERY option.
C:\Users\ME\Desktop\r4-desire-root>
any suggestions as i'm screwed otherwise
For me I did mine on r2 method.
After the step 1, I got the same as you, stay at the boot screen, so I pull out the battery then boot by volume down + power, and go to the recovery screen on phone.
Connect the phone to PC and run step 2, it goes straight, hope this can help
ah, vol down+power - may try that...
thanks!
randomly, left phone off for 5 mins and turned back on and its back to normal so at least its not bricked!
It's a common problem @ windows 7 x64. Here's the solution:
Do NOT execute step1-windows.bat when the instructions say so. Just go to your command prompt and type the following (giving it some time to execute each command:
1. fastboot-windows.exe erase cache
2. fastboot-windows.exe oem rebootRUU
3. fastboot-windows.exe flash zip testimage.zip
Now you're gonna see the error again. Wait for your phone to go to the HTC screen again, then when you hear the windows sound that detected a new device, execute this command (note that it's the same as the previous one):
4. fastboot-windows.exe flash zip testimage.zip
And finally:
5. fastboot-windows.exe reboot-bootloader
Enjoy!
Edit: For a more detailed how-to see this post.

Semi-Brick (no adb, no recovery but fastboot) stuck in htc screen

I think I should first tell what happend and then what I did so far.
I got the phone from HTC and got a OTA update to 1.72. For the rooting process (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2) I first downgraded the phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886023). After the rooting process I installed the Ginger Villain 1.5 rom and everything worked fine until my phone decided to turn off one night.
What I now got is a phone which is stucked in the white screen with green HTC logo. Nothing happens even after 10, 20, 30 minutes waiting. Starting the phones bootloader works. Here are the Version information:
VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF

I have no adb access. Drivers are installed and (normally) working on my 32-bit windows 7 laptop. If I enter fastboot, I can use fastboot commands.
I try to remember all things I tried recovering the phone:
1) recovery from fastboot (v1)
- phone into fastboot
- >fastboot devices --> phone shows up
- >fastboot flash recovery c:\...\recovery.img --> Error: FAILED: remote not allowed
2) recovery from fastboot (v2)
- phone into fastboot
- >fastboot devices --> phone shows up
- >fastboot erase cache--> works
- >fastboot oem rebootRUU --> now the phone tries to boot normally or just boots the normal bootloader again
- same problem as in 1)
3) recovery from fastboot (v3)
- downloaded another fastboot version form here: http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/download.php?url=paul/fastboot.zip
- tried 1) and 2) again -> same error
4) PC10IMG.zip recovery
- I downloaded the PC10IMG.zip from the downgrading process again (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261)
- put it on the sdcard
- bootloaded reads file and processes it correctly
- nothing happend > same boot loop
5) PC10IMG.zip recovery with custom recovery.img
- took the PC10IMG.zip from downgrading
- replaced the recovery.img with a GV1.5 recovery.img from a friends Desire Z
- same as in 4)
I hope i did not forget something. Please help to recover the phone.
I am in the exact same situation. No ADB, No Recovery, fastboot but no ENG HBoot, and stuck at the HTC screen. I was hoping there was a way to flash clockworkmod recovery using a PC10IMG or something so I can run a nandroid restore and have ADB access back.
EDIT: I found a modified PC10IMG.zip that restored CWM and a stock android build. From there it was simple to get back to CM7. You can find the file in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10583834&postcount=33
Thanks for your reply. I did not get it to work again. But maybe your link will help many other people.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I have some problem . no adb, no recovery...
I had the same problem. I eventually just found a stock 2.2 PC10IMG.zip, flashed it, then rerooted, reinstalled recovery, then recovered my backup.

I am following the directions from htcdev.com/bootloader
I got to the point where I am supposed to "get_identifier_token"
Now my phone is connected as it should be, I am in "fastoot usb".
Still, the only thing happens is that I get the following message in command prompt: "waiting for device". Nothing happens. I tried to restart PC and phone again: same problem.
Does anyone have an idea about what I'm doing wrong? I'm stuck.
Okay. Now I unlocked bootloader. I think the problem was USB-debugging was not turned on.
Trying to run clockworkmod, but keep getting error messages:
"you must root your phone for ROM manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "system/xbin/su".
When I try to flash clockworkmod recovery I get the following error:
"An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands".
My deviced is with unlocked bootloader, buy of course still S-ON. I understood from the threads around that that's not a problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927757&highlight=root
How can I install a custom ROM?
How can I install data2sd?
Can someone help? Thanks a lot.

Hi, what you need to do is go into your bootloader as you usually do, Volume - and Power Button, plug your USB and go into fastboot USB. Then you need to create a file on you C: drive called "fastboot" and put the following files in there "adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, AdbWinUsbApi.dll & fastboot.exe" and your recovery image, I suggest you use the offical clock work mod recovery which is available here,
if you do not have these files you can download them from here,
http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474956
once you do this then open a command dos window by typing cmd in the start search box of windows.... once the command window opens go to the right folder of C:\fastboot> where you saved the files.
Then as your phone is in fastboot USB and you are in the command window C:\fastboot>, type in the command window the following,
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
Then press enter, what you should see is the below,
c:\fastboot>fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
sending 'recovery' (2224 KB)... OKAY
writing 'recovery'... OKAY
If you follow the above then you should have clockworkmod recovery, you can then take the USB out and go back to the hboot in you bootloader and choose recovery under hboot by navigating with the volume button and power button.
I do need to inform you though that if you are one of the unlucky WFS owners that get the "Black Screen Recovery" issue where you go into recovery and you only get a black screen and you tactile buttons are on then you need to follow the bellow method to be able to see you recovery on you PC screen than on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781105
Also here is a youtube video of what I mean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgrPctWKW8E
I know all this as I had the same issue and this helped me. Now I feel that I need to inform you about other issues... When you unlock the bootloader you can't flash a ROM and then just switch your phone on and it boots into the new ROM, there is a process you need to follow.
When you choose your ROM, and not all ROMs work with the Wildfire S new batch of phone as I had to find out the hard way, you need to flash your ROM and then open the .zip file of your phone copy the boot.img of the ROM paste it in the c:\fastboot> directory and again in the command window type,
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You will see the below,
c:\fastboot>fastboot flash boot boot.img
sending 'boot' (2224 KB)... OKAY
writing 'boot'... OKAY
Then type,
c:\fastboot>fastboot reboot
And your phone will reboot into the new ROM allow 10 to 15 minutes... BE PATIENT.
I hpe the above helps you.
I am currently having the below problems just for your info if you have the same...

Thanks a lot for the quick and professional answer. By the time I read it, I managed to root.
I used rezo609's all-in-one utility, which I found in at this location:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697985
I got the advice from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927757
I installed the Speeddroid ROM and data2SD as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932534&highlight=data2sd+install
The result: so far everything working. It looks like a new phone!
stuck to root
Hi,
I have the same situation here.
But Which tool do you run of the [UTILITY]rezo609's All-In-One Utility ? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697985&page=3)
In the whole topic there is no how to.
I managed to unlock the bootloader, and clockwork recovery is also on there.
I just want to root the phone (not to put an other rom)
Thanks in advance,

S-off, Relocked and no Root (SOLVED)

Hi guys,
I flashed stock back to my phone and relocked the bootloader by "fastboot oem lock".
I been stuck with this for the last 2 days searching for solution on how to get my phone unlocked and rooted again.
This is what I have tried so far:
1. Rumrunner 1.10.605.10 and 1.10.605.15 firmware (flashed 1.10.605.10 and updated to 15) - Run just fine, but it does not change anything on the phone. Still shows RELOCKED S-off and NO Root.
2. Firewater (temp-root method) - Temproot: Root acquired. Firewater: "there really isn't a helluva lot to do here. bye bye"
3. Flashing CM recovery - failed remote not allowed
Could someone please help me to get back Root access and UNLOCK my phone?
Thank you in advance.
If your s-off, all you have to do is fastboot flash a custom recovery.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery_file.img
Then flash superuser zip thru recovery. Then you will be rooted. Also it is a myth that you need to relock the bootloader to do an ruu, so that wasnt really needed. Not sure exactly how to unlock the bootloader again.

Ok try this then.
1. Download this file http://vzw1files.dyndns.org/RECOVERIES/twrp/Twrp_2.6.3.4_RUU_Mode.zip, and place it on your pc in the same folder as fastboot.exe and adb.exe. Rename it to recovery.zip
2. Connect the phone to the pc and open a cmd prompt to where the files are, and type the following.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Wait for hboot.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Wait for grey HTC logo.
Code:
fastboot flash zip recovery.zip
Wait for cmd window to say it has finished.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
3. Hit power button to select bootloader, and then use the power button again to select recovery.
If all is well you should boot to TWRP 2.6.3.4. Then flash Superuser http://vzw1files.dyndns.org/Superuser/superuser.zip and you will be rooted.

Enable USB Debugging in Settings.
To do so, go to build information and tap it 7 times.
This will enable the Developer options in settings.
In there, check the box for Usb Debugging.
You should then be able to fastboot flash the recovery as per usual.
Good luck! :good:

m8 stuck at fastboot, need help

So, got a problem with my m8
my m8 is the international unlocked version from amazon, 2 months old.
no root, no s-off, just stock with the last update from htc (4.4.3 i think)
last night, went to sleep, and charge my phone with 20% battery, then this morning when i woke up, the phone was in this screen:
replace the .
h.ttp://i.imgur.com/yYoTilH.jpg
Tried to reboot but with no luck, at the same menu i entered to hboot and some lines with "not found" (like 4-5 files) appeared on the screen, then in the new menu, i tried to enter the recovery menu, no luck and went back to fastboot menu, factory reset, no luck too.
After trying all of the menu options with no luck, i tried to use the fastboot to flash an stock image of the recovery, but always getting a signature verification failed.
Tried to flash the stock roms from here, but also the same error (signature verification failed)
So, if someone knows something to help me, please do
You cannot flash anything if boot loader is locked or you don't have s-off
Open on your pc where adb and fastboot files are a command window when the phone is connected to pc and type on fastboot erase cache...see if something happens and if it worked reboot it
