IMEI issues - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello everyone!
I am not big on joining websites but I felt after everything that I had tried and experimented with, I needed to get the word out to possibly help others, or at least provide some insight. I am unable to post to the thread in question as I am considered a n00b so I am posting in the general section. If this doesn't belong here, I apologize in advance.
I recently came across this thread after finding out I corrupted my IMEI number.I have a Galaxy S 3 through AT&T. To make a long story short, I never backed up my original IMEI and rooted the same day following this procedure right after I got the phone. Shortly after I flashed a few different roms (aristdemos and black jelly to name a few). All was good until I wanted to go back to stock and not use a rom anymore. Thats when I noticed my IMEI was showing as 0/0 . Unfortunately, I do not know at what point I lost my IMEI, whether it was cwm or flashing a rom etc... After some digging around, I was able to inject my IMEI number back into my phone using the RF NV Item Manager program. My IMEI was now showing the correct number (per the back of my phone). After I did this, I was able to get LTE signal but would constantly drop in and out of EDGE as well. I was also unable to connect to my microcell anymore, it would connect for about a minute or two, then drop and would never connect again until a reboot. At this point I had good signal (full bars). I put my sim card into my iPhone 4 (previous phone) and the iPhone connected to my microcell right away, no problems so this ruled out the sim. Speed tests would only pull in 5-10 Mbps with full bars on LTE. I am in Cleveland and normally it should be doing 30-50Mbps. At this point I felt there was a data issue as I was able to make and receive calls and send/receive texts. I tried different roms as well as stock with no root and all produced the same results, poor data issues. At this point, I then I followed the 3rd post procedure about creating a QCN file and restoring it to the phone. This was the tipping point of no return. After restoring the QCN file I generated my phone would constantly be stuck in EDGE. Only a reboot would bring back LTE and even then it would only stay on LTE for no more than 5 minutes and drop back into EDGE. Once on EDGE it would not come off EDGE unless the phone was rebooted. I am in downtown Cleveland and there is LTE here so I know it was not a coverage issue. After scouring these threads and trying everything I could think of that people were suggesting in posts, I ended up with no success. I flashed to stock and took it to the AT&T store (I am still in the 30 day window) and had it replaced. I now have LTE all the time and it also connects to the microcell with no issues. The first thing I did was backup my IMEI when I got home. I feel that there is something else in NV ram or maybe the efs partition that holds other info about data settings as injecting the IMEI was not enough.
I hope this helps or at least points you in the right direction if you corrupted your IMEI and are having data issues. I know that taking it to AT&T is probably not an option for everyone either. I guess its also possible the phone was a lemmon but I just wanted to share my experience with you all.
Happy fixing your data issues!

So your fix if to return it for warranty exchange? That's not a fix, that's fraud.

Sorry this is gonna be locked. What you did was mess up your phone and then commit fraud to the cell company to get it replaced as it wasnt a problem with your phone to start. This should not be discussed on xda at all.

[Q] EVDO <failed>

A few weeks ago my evos data became ridiculously slow. I was the latest stable cm6 (6.1.2 iirc) and it was out of nowhere since I did not install any new apps or make any changes. I did a nandroid back to when I first rooted and I still had no 3g (wifi, bluetooth, wimax, 1x all work).
The tech I talked to at Sprint had me try updating everything and even a factory reset (which I already tried before calling). I have Best Buys phone insurance (never again. Sprints is much better after having to use both at one point or another) so I took it to best buy and when I get my phone home the data and phone are slow. After a few days I notice in ##debug# evdo engineering has <failed> on everything and I was running 3.26.xx.x I just ran the ruu to the latest 3.70 and it is snappy again but still no 3g.
Once I get time I am going to take it to the sprint repair center but I am curious if anyone else has had this problem. A search on here and Google doesn't come up with anything.

Have you tried updating your profile? Also, are your radio/baseband, PRI, NV & WiMax files updated to the latest versions? You can check it by going to Menu-Settings-About Phone-Software Information. The NV will not be listed, by the way.
Yes, everything is the latest. I even tried the port and proxy reset to 0 and 0.0.0.0 respectively method with no change.
It seems like my radio just doesn't work on 3g anymore. I hope to get to the sprint service center before the weekend.

I hear ya. Hopefully, they'll provide you with a new EVO instead of a refurbished one.
Call sprint's advanced tech support.
877-809-6696 ats advanced tech supp
Ask them to do a full profile reset or update. They ask you to power the phone off for a few min (they even asked me to pull the battery, but I didn't see a need for that). Then when it reboots, it will do the ota provisioning, which should correct things.

They did that as well. The tech said it was basically like a new line.
It is odd because every other thread I see online has had it fixed by one of the common methods or by calling sprint.
I have a tux fitting tomorrow for my brothers wedding and the sprint service center isn't too far from that so I should be able to get it checked out then.
It may be Sprint and their network. A lot of people have been stating that they are either getting really fast speeds or really slow speeds. If I understood everything correctly I think that Sprint is going through several updates for a while to be more competitive and provide better service. It may not be your phone. If you have any friends with the same phone then does a speed test to the same server side by side and see if that is different. If the results are the same it is the network, but if the other phone is faster then it is your phone that is having the problems.

My friends evo is perfect right next to mine in san jose to sacramento. I have no 3g anywhere I have been lately (Monterey all the way to South Lake Tahoe).
I was having the Same Issue with my wife phone but she was running CM7 RC2. I was able only fix it by installing sprint Lover.
Then as itohead said try to install Sprint Lovers and see if that works. If not then I think that there is something wrong with your phone and you may need a new one, or wait till the Evo 3D comes out and get one of those.
I forgot to update this. Sorry guys.
Took it to a sprint repair center and the tech said he's never seen that before and ordered me a new one on the grounds that my usb port was "broken".

[Q] Signal Dropping Bad

Me Epic Touch that is using Verizon Towers is constantly dropping signal, I have tried every modem from EK - FD but nothing has seem to help. I tried with Page Plus original Prl which shows roaming and didn't help and also loaded other Prl's that doesn't show roaming all the time that Straight Talk uses, but it does the same thing. I have had many Sprint Phones activated on Verizon side and never had any problems like I am having now and My Cousin has The same phone also which is on Page Plus and his phone behaves the same way. Was wondering if any of you that have this phone and flashed it to Verizon are experiencing the same thing? If anyone has any opinions or could weigh in on what I might be able to try or maybe tweak on this phone that might help I would greatly appreciate thanks. Forgot to mention that I have tried both stock and Ics roms and when signal drops it will have a circle with lone threw it but I don't have to reboot phone signal always come back seconds later but trying to hold a conversation on this phone is bout impossible without 2 dropped calls in a 30 minute period.
Is the phone activated on Verizon or are you just using their towers for some particular reason? Keep in mind there are issues outside of the phone that may affect connectivity - I just had this happen with our local Sprint tower last week. Took a week for Sprint to confirm the problem was the tower and fix it.
If you made a nandroid backup before you changed the prl (witch is what you should do before messing around with anything to do with your phone) flash back to it, see if that helps at all.
HTC Hero -> Epic 4G -> Epic 4G Touch
It is activated on Verizon unlimited plan. I also have a nanroid back up of the stock rom behaved the same way. At first I though it was Page Plus being I never used them and gave them a try instead of always worying about data issues with ST. I let my time run out on Page Plus and and switched to Verizon new 50 unlimited pre-pay but still acts the same way.

Rooting issue or just coincidence?

Hey guys, I just a sprint gnex phone a few weeks back and ran the GNex toolkit v9.1 to unlock and root it this past saturday so I could use a hotspot app for my tablet.
I don't know if this is just a bad coincidence or if I did something wrong..I'm not new to roms and have modded my previous phone (evo 4g) about 50 times, but here's what's happening.
Prior to this weekend I had full signal/bars..Now I can barely get 2..It's mostly sitting at 1 bar and sometimes drops the connection entirely. At the same time, every txt msg I send comes back with an error stating it did not send, however...It does actually go through, twice even. This happens with every text to every person.
I didn't put a rom on it, and I didn't even install clockwork mod...I simply just unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. I did setup google voice afterwards. I can't see how doing this would cause these kind of issues and I haven't called Sprint yet as I absolutely despise their customer service..I'd rather get feedback here first.
The coincidence that I'm referring to is that I'm in Austin, Tx and they're in the process of spinning up 4g LTE towers right now..If by chance they started upgrading my tower this weekend (yesterday & today) then I could definitely see these issues...I walked down about 2 blocks where I do get a full 4g signal, but my txting still had the same issue.
Any ideas or thoughts about my problems?
On one hand, I would tell you that rooting doesn't cause that.
On the other hand, you used a toolkit, so who knows what you ended up doing.
If you haven't changed anything as far as ROMs or mods, then I would suspect you're right about something with the network. The only other thing I can think of would be hardware problems of some kind. That seems a lot less likely though. Sprint does supposedly keep a list of networks that are being worked on. You could check in with them and see if the one in your area is being upgraded.

I do know they are upgrading the towers in my zip code to LTE 4G..I'll give em' a call tomorrow and see what they say.
This was the toolkit that I used.

happened to me.
Reboot your phone and go to about and sprint system update.
update profile.
Idk why but its sometimes happens for no reason.
Make sure you have good connection first.(go outside)
If that doesnt work update prl to make the network find the closet tower to you.

I was trying that repeatedly hoping it would fix it..but it doesn't.
On another note, today when I woke up and rebooted the phone I had full bars on 4G signal..Thought life was good and then about 5 mins later it was back to 1 bar 3G. That's the first time I've seen a 4G signal here in my apartment so I'm hoping it really is just the towers in my neighborhood being converted to 4G right now.
I've rebooted my phone 3 times now and the same occurrence happens..Full signal with 4G for a few mins, and then it drops to 1 bar 3G..Have updated my profile and PRL and tried airplane mode..Only way to get that 4G signal back is to reboot the phone..Won't stay on 4G though.

[Q] Cannot stay connected to any LTE bands. Need advice and ideas please.

Okay, here's the problem. Since June 3rd my phone will not stay connected to 4g. I toggle airplane mode and I instantly lock on to 4g. Signalcheck reads between -109 and -115. This is normal for me at home. Until the 3rd I could hold that lte 1900mhz (band 25) and never drop it unless i went further into my home. I almost never get band 41 unless Im closer to a tower. Band 26 is nonexistant in Buffalo (too close to canada).
Since then I toggle airplane mode and can lock on to LTE 25 (same signal strengths) but it drops to eHRPD 3g every single time.... Within 10-15 seconds. Same happens when I reboot.
I am running full stock, stock recovery, ZVG, and the G2 is rooted.
I have tried:
Disabling band 26 and 41. And connecting to any combination of them on/off.
Modifying the bsr timer, etc.
Updating prl, profile, and even reactivation many many times.
Factory reset on ZVG, 3x.
Full TOT back to ZVE, unrooted. (Still same problem even on ZVE, unrooted and yes I never had this issue on ZVE before updating to ZVG the first time.)
Redownloaded ZVG and reinstall after TOT, no improvement.
Called sprint and have been working with engineers in Oklahoma city office. They swear up an down its not a tower issue, or a eCSFB problem.
I have the same problem even away from my home towers.
I have opened the device to inspect for damage, or moisture, there is none I can see.
I havent dropped it hard, or exposed it to any water that I can think of.
So anyone have any ideas on what I should try next, or do to get my 4g to stick?
Im a bit at a loss. Ive tried every setting, trick, or troubleshooting step I can think of.
Thanks in advance for any help or knowledge you can provide.
For anyone that may have a problem like this in the future I solved my issues by having sprint send me a new sim card. Being that I bought my g2 the day it was released I guess maybe my sim went bad. It was a long shot and my last ditch effort to get 4g back. I now have a steady 4g signal.
Thanks for posting what fixed it for you. I've also been having this same problem for about the last 2 weeks. It just won't hold LTE. I'll stop by my local Sprint store today for a new sim and hopefully that does the trick for me as well.
Unfortunately even with the new sim card the problem returned after a few days. I called Sprint and asked them to put in a dummy sim number to unregister the sim, and then re-add the sim back. It fixed the problem immediately once again.
Frankly, I dont understand what the problem is. I know its related to the sim card but I havent reset (powered down) my phone in a week. Im kinda worried the problem will come back if I do. Cant see it being a bad sim reader in the phone. Otherwise it wouldnt start working on 4g again after resetting it via sprint.
Im stumped.
I can always call sprint and have them reset the sim again but Id rather know if its some kind of bug that will be fixed. I contacted LG and they acted like I am outta my mind.

N920I - Weak 4G. Can no longer make or recieve calls. Possibly a local 3G tower was turned off.

My Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920I purchased December of 2015 can no longer make or receieve calls. My provider is TracFone via the Bring Your Own Phone program. I use their SIM card and it has worked all this time. Until recently the phones features have stopped working. I think they have been disabling the 3G in my area, as everyone is converting to 4G now.
Note 5 is supposed to support 4G but it's definitely been having issues. Text and internet still works. however texts are sometimes delayed on occasion, not always, usually it's fine. Data speed just now was tested at 10 mbps down, 3 mbps up. Signal bars are consistently low, regardless of physical location; inside, outside, other side of town, SIM status shows signal always between -108dBm and -118dBm. This is likely why I cannot make or receive calls, but the question is, why is this happening?
Like I said, I suspect they are shutting down 3G in this area, so the best theory I've been able to come up with is this: perhaps 4G has always sucked on this phone but I never noticed because it would fall back to the good 3G connection. Now that 3G is gone in this area, all I have to use is 4G which is a shoddy connection.
Further research has found in the early days of this phone there were numerous reports of weak/no signal. See these threads:
Fed Up With Terrible Reception
Hey all, I'm kind of venting here and at the same time hoping for some sort of direction because I'm absolutely fed up with my S6. I upgraded roughly a month and a half ago from an S4. My phone usage was below normal for the first week or two as I was busy with a variety of projects. As my...

No signal/network on my note 5
Hi everyone, so I just got this note 5 N920P last two weeks but I noticed its OS was lollipop...waited for updates for 7.0 but nothing so I went ahead and downloaded Odin with latest firmware from samobile and did it my self, now here the problems start to show first of all this hands free...
forums.androidcentral.com
One theory was that the 4G antenna they used in the Note 5 / S6 was of poor design. Causing weak signal.
Things I have tried and did not work:
-Contacted TracFone. They confirmed the device is supported and provisioned correctly. They recommended a new SIM card.
-Replaced the SIM card with a brand new one
-Factory reset the device. It's running the stock Android 7.0 Nougat which was the last up to date version available.
-Tinkered with various service menus including *#2263# and *#0011#. Messing about with the LTE band settings didn't change the signal strength ever. Regardless of the LTE band, it stays in that -108 to -118 range, too weak for calling.
What can be done to fix this? Possible ideas:
-Internal antenna replacement, but this seems either expensive to have someone do, or extremely difficult to do oneself. Would it even make a difference? Has anyone tried this?
-Software. Could the issue have been introduced during one of the software updates? Planned obsolescence perhaps? Could we revert to an earlier firmware to potentially resolve this? has anyone tried this?
-Firmware. Could we upgrade the firmware to a later, unsupported version safely? Perhaps the issue was fixd in later Android versions but has not been adressed in older devices that are no longer updated.
I'm the kind of person who likes to use my things until they absolutely die. This Note 5 has been perfectly fine until recently. There is nothing wrong with it. It's still modern, fast, and has a great camera. I would HATE to have to replace a phone for such a stupid reason. Not only is money tight, but it's such a waste when this thing is still perfect apart from this weak 4G signal.
Has anyone else had this issue? Have you resolved it? Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Try a network reset.
Clear sim toolkit data.
Clear system cache.
The access point profile may need updating or maybe the sim?
