Does Picture in Picture/Undocking work? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does Picture in Picture/video undocking work? I'm starting to jones over the Note II and have seen early reviewer videos where that did work, but has anyone that actually have one able to get it to work? I also ask this because I have also read that it was removed from the production models.
A perfect example is from this slashgear video http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-galaxy-note-ii-may-hit-att-the-same-day-as-nokia-14247685/
Thanks!

Video Calling moddable on AT&T Tilt2?

Hi all. I brought me a at&t tilt2 off ebay not realizing that you yanks don't support video calling. Dose anyone know if theres a mod to enable the front camera if it has one hardware wise or if its feasible to buy and install the cam and touch panel. I haven't pulled mine apart yet so not too sure if the hardware is actually there.
Cheers

No front facing camera hidden under there so dont bother taking it apart to see... that said I've not even heard of anyone putting one in. My advice.. put the phone BACK up for sale and by one that will work for what your needs are.
It'll save you a lot of time, money and aggrivation. If you do decide to stick with the US version you may just be grumpy that your phone doesnt have the camera period.
lol no biggie as im not all that keen on video calling anyway but would be nice to have tho. Haven't seen any cheep European 850/2100 hsdpa tp2's on ebay.

Front facing camera (kind of)

Okay so not exactly. Just couldn't think of a better subject line.
Here is an accessory for the iPhone 3gs that projects a mirrored image of what's in front of the iPhone to the rear camera

Of course my first thought was whether or not it would fit on our captivates. Seems less deadly than the hack I saw awhile back where someone put a Galaxy S replacement front facing camera in their captivate.
link for the captivate/i9000 ffc?? I have only seen it in the Vibrant (which worked really well)
and thats actually not a half bad idea for the mirror thing. I mean really, people don't use the ffc that much anyway, so for the few times u do use it, this would probably work just fine.
Link to the website
Here is the website URL for the product. Hope someone tries this looks like it will work just fine!

There is no Captivate FFC - The i9000 was born with it - just find the product spec page.
I just can't imagine carrying around a mirror accessory just to video chat - if you want a FCC, but a phone that does it.

What are the two boxes next to the speaker on the front of the phone?

Those are specialized thermal osmosis transmission ports for connecting the Captivate to an external flux capacitor, in case your Mr Fusion goes bad.

Yep, just what he said. They also serve as proximity sensors when you put the phone to your ear.

Some people are modding Vibrants (which do not come with a FFC) with the i9000 FFC or the Epic4G FFC.
Also "buy a phone that does it" is hardly a solution seeing as how there are so few out. AT&T only offers one, and it's the iPhone. Sprint has the other two, and obviously are not compatible for the AT&T network. That only leaves the i9000 but buying it straight up is rather costly, whereas T-mo people who do the FFC mod spend $16 (yes, the camera assembly for the i9000 is that cheap).
I'd also be interested in seeing it done for the Captivate.

do you know how to read??
I know the i9000 has a ffc, but if you read the original post, he claims someone hacked up a captivate with the i9000 ffc. I simply asked for a link.
alright lets straighten this out
Without any proof of concept for a FFC for the captivate i am calling it BS or not possible. We have exhausted this to no end in the Dev. forum in about 6 different threads and there just isnt a spot for the FFC to sit. If you look at the tear town pictures of the captivate v.s. the i9000 you will see that there FFC and back camera have two different mounting spots. Unfortunately for us there is only 1 mounting spot and its taken up by the main camera. to get the FFC in the captivate you would have to buy the part and then tear apart the guts of the wiring and re wire it so it would be able to literally be soldered on the back of the main camera, then hope you were good enough with that soldering gun to get it facing exactly right through the hole you would have had to scratch or dissolve out of the black in the front of you phone.
Like I said I am more than willing to see some proof and be proved wrong but i imagine he is thinking of the Vibrant guys who also have two slots and have successfully gotten a i9000 FFC in their phones!
Done and Done.

Yeah buddy I can read.... and I said there is no FCC for the captivate (unless you count the one I posted)... there is no room inside or connection on the board. Just because someone claims to have seen something, doesn't make it so. There are links to BigFoot and Nessie on the internet too.
This idea has been around since the captivate launched.

I am putting together a do it yourself kit for 3 easy payments of $19.95 (processing and handling additional charges may apply).
Notice the use of name brand camera, not some cheap knockoff.
LMAO... thanks for the laughs.
Um.. I thought the only Galaxy S Phone that could be hacked is the Vibrant? The Captivate's "unique" design fails us again.

You people have no creativity. Thats why i like the vibrant forum. People around are all "you cant" and "buy a phone that does" "and it would de-value" blah blah. There is no reason it cant be done. If it works on a vibrant a similar mod should work on a captivate. I know the vibrant has the mount built in. But thats hardly a dificult obstacle. I had know idea the camera is that cheap and i may just buy one to prove a point to the naysayers.
Also the mirror thing has been disgussed and i wouldnt use it. It looks silly. Id rather harware brick my phone in an atempt to preform the mod than be seen with that thing. But i dont discorage others from using it

I bought the part, tried on my captivate. Was willing to do what it took to make it fit. One problem, the part does not work with our phones. The connection onto the main board is slightly different. I'd post pictures but don't really want to tear down my captivate again.

Connection may be different, but could it be customized or modded to work? Little more solder, epoxy, jb weld, maybe even built-in usb and a switch, who knows? Haven't taken mine apart to check it out in the week I've had it.

Epic 4G Touch Video Quality

Hoping someone out there could help me out.
I am considering buying the Epic 4G touch and was wondering if someone could take a quick outdoor video and upload the the raw file online. All the video's that I've seen on youtube are very jerky when the camera is panned side to side so I want to see if this is a youtube problem, or if this is a camera/phone deficiency.
Many thanks!
I just got mine yesterday, I've take 2 videos with it, they're random to say the least but I will try to make a good outdoor video for you tomorrow.
I've uploaded the video files to my website, they were taken in 1080p.

Right click and save file as.
Took these yesterday. Hopefully they can help
720p .mp4

Also, if you want you can browse the directory here to see additional videos as well as raw 8M pictures. Keep in mind, I was walking in some of the other videos which would account for a lot of the shaking.
I plan on doing a bass flex video tomorrow with my new winter beater and my fi audio 15" sub... Camera has to be pretty good to pick up some of the flex it will go on youtube tho...

Special thanks to Josh and a635 for posting videos. The difference between the youtube quality and raw quality was substantial.
If anyone else wants to upload some raw video tests, I would love to see them.
Thank again!

German Preview of the Nexus

Hi all,
we got our hands on the new Galaxy Nexus and publish videos showing the device and ICS, as well es sample pictures and a video taken with the internal camera of the phone.
Maybe this could be interesting for your readers even tho it is all in german, but pictures and videos are pretty self-explanatory.
Cheers
Thanks, I have been watching a few of them on youtube. If possible please make a couple in English. Either way thanks
tnx Ireas, will see some of the movies !

Allshare Cast release date?

I thought about posing this question in the Q&A section but since it is an accessory I thought I’d list it here. Has anyone heard of a planned release date for the Allshare Cast dongle? I saw Amazon is taking orders at $100 saying it “usually ships within 1-2 months” but that’s not exactly precise.

Did you ever find out your answer? I need to buy on of these asap. I saw it on amazon too and it says 1-3 months now. Are they not available in the USA yet? Also I called the Official Samsung Accessories department today and the guy was very helpful, but had NEVER heard of this device. Seriously, I sent him a few links of the device on Amazon and the Review of the device off Engadget. He called me back to let me know, no one there had ever heard of it either.....Weird!
It's available in Poland
From all I've heard it should be last week of August in UK, and I just don't get why we get the high end phones released and announced first over here because we are one of the biggest markets, but Samsung always give us the accessories last and not bother with any firm release dates, I mean a lot of people are already pissed off with lack of Mass storage mode and External App moving so you'd think they'd have enough sense to get the accessories out as quick as possible to divert attention away from everything else they messed up.

Yeah I know what you mean... I mean stupid HTC has there Media Link out already. It does practically the same thing, but from what I have seen, it isnt quite as good. I wonder if it is even compatible with with other android devices. I want the Allshare Dongle because as a teacher I want to use its presentation mode for power point.
Hey guys, one more thing, I also Have a Nexus 7, you think I could install Allshare on the Tab an use the dongle with the tab as well? That would be ideal!
Allshare funcion uses wireless lan (router) to stream only videos, photos and music.
Allshare cast dongle uses Wi-Fi Direct technology to create mirror of the phone on the TV screen (you can also play games). You don't have to be in the area with wi-fi network.
Allshare cast dongle only works with Galaxy S3.

Here in sweden we have had it for about 2weeks now and my two cents in the matter is,,,,as of now the dongle doesn't work very well ,,
No 1080p , problems with connection, picture in picture (popup play) doesn't work,
Overall iam kind of disappointed
Hopefully a fw upgrade will correct some or all of the problems
