[Q] Galaxy W internal and external sd card question

Hello,
I have a galaxy SL, and my brother is going to get a galaxy W.
In SL there is a non removable internal sd card(small), and I can add external sd card.
The main problem with this configuration is that with normal phone without rooting, I can only move the applications to internal sd card(small) using different apps or from settings screen, but I can not move the applications to the external sd card.
Does galaxy w has the same problematic configuration?

Hi there..
In my experience, the opposite is the case.
Apps can be moved, using Android native manual Apps2SD or the Auto GUI App2SD, free from Market.
Apps can only be moved to External SD card......Internal USB/Storage is for Data, Music, Pics, etc.
Phone Memory for Apps is quite big, 1G, so it will take a while to fill this with Apps.
However, some ROMs have utilized a memory mount point swap, which can be useful if you want to use Internal USB/SD for apps!!!

I use link2sd but first you have to make partition using minitool partition..

That's a good app OK....you can use FAT32 partition AFAIK
but I remember it was used before Froyo gave the ability to move Apps to SD....which is improved now with GB.....and when ICS comes there will be moving to any Storage..
It has the ability to force move Apps which are not designed to be moved....sometimes for good reasons!!
When I had a ZTE Blade I also used Dark Tremors A2SD.....which moved Apps and Dalvik, etc to sd-ext 1G. partition.....
but I don't think it works on this phone.

yepp..use fat32.
last time I use it, it works but everytime I restart my wonder some apps can't open(apps that.i link), but it will be opened only if you reboot from link2sd..
yes it will force move apps but we can uncheck the re-link or unlink so the apps still in the internal,..for me, I used to install apps that not designed to be move first, and then install link2sd..

From my understanding from irishpancake reply, there is no need of swapping storages or external apps to move the application (that support move2sd feature) to the external sd card, which is great.
I had to swap mount points for my galaxy SL to do the same thing, but my brother is not into rooting/hacking stuff.

Hey there "confused" nalee!!
First question: you wanna partition ur External SD for why??
Have you run out of space on phone Internal Memory for Apps??
Second question: Have you tried moving Apps to External SD using the native Apps2SD which we have??
It is easy peezy.....and you don't need to create partition on ur External SD. If you wanna make it easier again, why not try App2SD, free from Market, which will notify you when Apps can be moved.
Or Gemini App Manager, which has the same function, plus a whole lot more!!!!
But, if you just wanna try out partitioning your SD, take a look at Link2SD web page.....

You will need to D/L Minitool Partition Manager, if you got Windoze, or GParted tool for Linux.
You take responsibility for your own phone, so if you Brick or damage, no blame to me or Link2SD..

Well Irishpancake, that was helpful enough.. but does it mean that there's no way to link any file to apps which is save in External Sd..? You know how huge the games file are... It's Like every I wanna play the games, I have to move the file to Usb-Storage, then play the game.. Do I have to do this all the time...?

There is a manual way on rooted phone~
if you can run "Terminal Emulator" app on the phone and rooted:
1) su <-- run command as root
2) mount -o bind /sdcard/external_sd/<your directory with data files> /sdcard/<empty directory that will be used by your app>
or you can try this app "Directory Bind"

We have the phone now, but it is not like what I understood at all.
That is really a problem.
The app2sd has 3 tabs (on phone, on sd card, phone only)
The on sd card tab shows the small total 1.7 GB internal card, and there is no tab for the external 16 GB card.
Does it mean there is no easy way to move the applications to the big 16GB memory?

Abdalla friend......
The App2SD app is misreporting.....
It assumes /mnt/sdcard is the external SD.....
and reports what it finds!!!!
But, if you select any App shown in the "On Phone" tab.....
and then select "Move to SD card" Option......
Your App will go to External SD in the
/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/.android_secure folder!!!!
App2SD is simply executing the native Android GB Apps to SD.....
The only useful function this app has is to Notify when Downloaded App can be moved......ensure you enable this in settings.
The actual moving is done by the native system move Apps function!!!
So, I would advise if you are manually moving all Apps, there is a "Move All' function!!!!
Also, can I recommend Storage Analyzer app, free from Market....

It is the only app I know of which allows you to see what is on the .android_secure folder from your phone, without needing to mount on your PC or Laptop.

Never had a FC with Storage Analyzer.....
but perhaps it happens

Apps2sd is just moving the apps on SD card, but this SD card is just the usb storage only not the external sd card

You have found a bug.....
It will FC after display of "What's new" page......V 0.9.1.
It does happen, but normal app usage is OK, it does what it says it does......
I would report that bug to the Dev!!
I'd say it is easily fixed.

You are incorrect if you are talking about app App2SD.....
or even if you are talking about Android native Apps2SD.......
and you have normal memory Mount Points.....
not modified "vold.fstab" as in some custom ROM's....
If you can show otherwise It would be helpful!!!
BTW.....you should not give out information unless you know it is correct.....

Move apps to external SD card

Hello.
Is there a app that moves the data to the external SD card?
I tried App2SD, and it didnt work!
I emailed the creator, and i got a replay:

I cannot find the "Move to xxx" button from application detailed information window.
Moving app to SD is handled by Android. App 2 SD app only provides an UI for you to manage it. Currently, Android only supports the primary external storage for App 2 SD. If the device does not have a real primary external storage or the primary external storage is emulated from the internal phone storage. Moving app to SD function will not be supported by Android system. It's the limitation of hardware. Please get more information from device manufacture.

I do have rooted my Note 2, so maybe another program can do the trick?

You can not move your applications to external sdcard.
Two workarounds (need root)
1.google for bind directory (tested on s3 and had problems)
2.swap your int sdcard with ext scdard.thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931500 (also needs custom kernel)

Newest edition of Spotify does not allow us to choose what SD card we store the music on.
Total failure.

Is it really that simple? I mean have you tried it, and do the games play properly without lag? If someone can confirm this you'll make my day. I have had bought titanium pro since my old GS2 days.

Titanium backup pro can really move the apps to SD for note 2? I have tried moving about 30 apps including some big size games and I don't see any different in my phone storage after moving....

From what I've read about the S3, no. That's why I was skeptical. From what I've read, you either have to use directory binder or install a mod which changes the internal storage with the sd card.

So, there is no way to do it? I really dont understand why you have an external SD that you cant used for apps or even storing Titanium backups to the EXTERNAL SD. This, as well as not being able to connect to my Hidden WAP is just about the straw that drives me back to the IPHONE. At least I know I can connect to my corporate Wifi and if I get 64gb then I truely have 64gb. Someone please ease my pain.

I think the only option for now is to use directory bind until someone made and app2sd which work for note 2 platform.

Was reading this thread and thought I'd let you know that you can choose the directory in which Titanium Backup uses to store your backups. in the backup folder location, in the preferences for Titanium Backup.
I've been having issues with directory bind. I'm going to get a larger sd card and use the swap method. I like the Note 2 to much to want to return it

Seriously people directory bind is very easy to use, just once, set the mnt/extSdCard/android/data directory from your external sd as the source, and storage/android/data as the target path.. then manually move the desired app data to the sd card folder, easy

I would really like to know this, too!!
I've partitioned my SD (30 GB Fat32 & 2 GB ext2) but there is still no "move2sd" within Titanium.
I also can't find this new partition within my "File Expert" (rooted)
Can some1 please help me??

i think you cant create ext2 partition on your external sd. Dont try that on your phone, do it with a sd card reader and pc. Then install this app (link2sd), give permission, choose ext2, reboot, and LİNK your apps to sd. Dont (also you cant) move apps. Just link... Works perfectly on my international n7100.

How did you do this? I cant see any options in the pro version. I tried holding down the app to see if I get the option to move, but there isn't one.

[Q] Does Apps 2 SD work with Note II?

I am trying to install the apps that I like and used to use frequently. My Note I was full and wouldnt let me install more at some point, so I love this app. It installed well to Note II but I received a message on the screen saying that the format or something of the SD card was not compatible or what? Is there anyone using that app? Could you tell me is it Note II or Jellybean?

The exact message: The device does not have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated. Since some other Note II owner also complained about the same issue in Google Play Store, it seems it is related to Note II.

You can use Link2SD if you have root and know how to make a second partition formated as ext4.

01. Open Partition Manager on your PC with the SD Card mounted
02. Click the partition on your SD card
03. Click delete
04. Click Apply
05. Click (Unallocated)
06. Click Create and make it look like the first picture, then OK
07. Click The smaller (Unallocated)
08. Click Create and make it look like the second picture, then OK
09. Click Apply, wait, close the program, unmount the card
10. Put the card in your phone, reboot
11. Open Link2SD, choose ext4 partition
12. Hold an app
13. Click Create Link
14. Click OK

Apps data to SD?

Hi everyone,
I'm using my note 2 with hawckish rom and I'm really happy with the performance, battery and everything in general.
I have a 32 gb Class 4 Sd card and I want to transfer some data from apps and games to it because I'm running out of space and I want to use it.
Now I know there is a way to use the Sd as the phone memory and the phone memory as an sd but as mine is class4 It's not fast enough to use it that way. I just want to transfer some apps and data from game to the sd.
I've downloaded some apps as App2sd but I cant do it so I would appreciate if you can help me please.
