[Q] Bell Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi Everyone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 unlocked, stock ROM and rooted. When i used the phone with Rogers it showed 4G. Now with Bell it shows H+.
I am ok with H+ because as i understand this is very similar to Roger's 4G. However, I have never gotten LTE on my phone.
Is there a way to enable this? I have checked the APN settings and they seem to be correct as per this forum.
Any ideas? Am i doing something wrong?
Thanks
Michael

I would make sure that the sim card you have says LTE on it (happened to me that they gave me the wrong one)
Outside of that I would recommend going to a strong LTE area and try to force LTE.
to do that go to your dialer
type *#2263#
Select LTE then LTE All, once you catch on to LTE go back into that menu and select Automatic

Have you confirmed your network speed with speedtest?

Thanks for the responses.
y2whisper: My sim card doesn't say LTE on it. It's a nanosim card that i had from my iPhone 4S. I was told the same sim card would work perfectly. I also tried that in the dialer and I selected LTE. It disabled my data and eventually i lost signal, no LTE signal came on. As soon as i put it back on automatic, it connected back to Bell with H+.
mrhaley30705: i did a speed test. It registered my download speed at 4757kbps and upload at 2398kbps
How does this fair?
Thoughts?

I was originally given the wrong sim card as well. Took a couple days to realize it. Went back into Best Buy where I got the phone and had it replaced. LTE fired right up. As to your speeds, depending upon your location, you could possibly add a zero to the end of those speeds and that's how much faster LTE could be. Here is mine but my area doesn't have the best LTE speeds.

Bell uses different micro sims for lte than the one you used for your 4s. Bell stores sell em for 5 bucks, but you can usually get them to give it to you for free.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

yeah it would work perfectly minus the LTE ability. yeah get a new sim and call bell. Some bell stores try to charge you a courtesy fee to activate it. don't pay it.

thanks everyone for your help.
Switching SIM cards did it. Now instead of 3000-5000kbps on 3G i am getting LTE speeds of 30000 - 42000kbps.
Thanks
-Michael

I bought a Bell S3 I747M and unlocked it to use on Fido, had to use the right APN settings plus using this trick to get it work.

Problems in Extended Network Area

I really want to keep this phone, so please help me out, lol. I am in an extended network area for Verizon. My Gnex drops 3g and it will not come back for hours or longer. The phone will show a signal, full bars -75 signal strength, but the 3g icon will not be there, so no email, speed test, web browsing.
I tried two gnex's and sim cards. The Rezound I have works perfect right next to the gnex, so I don't know what to think? They are both on the same prl. I called verizon, but they are no help, pull battery, factory reset, ect. I tried all the radio's I can find, tried three roms.
I am at a loss, if I can't figure it out I will be forced to live with a rezound for the next two years, help please, thanks.........Brian

Shot in the dark here, but did you enable Data Roaming in the Mobile Network settings? When I was in Indiana a while back (when I still used my Nexus One on T-Mo) it wouldn't use data until I turned on roaming. Which is kinda silly, because that setting is meant for international roaming, but then again America isn't a typical wireless market.
Yes, that and automatic, tried lte/cdma, and cdma only. Tried all the normal stuff, pulling the sim card, ect. It is weird these phones do this, but the rezound just plain works.........
Nothing? Amazon just sent me a brand new Rezound to try, but I really like the gnex, but I need good data. Thanks..........Brian

Automatic is the right setting.
Radio could matter.
LTE/CDMA shouldn't matter.
ROM doesn't matter (at all).
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to Phone information and post a screenshot (scroll down just enough to move the IMEI/MEID and your Phone number out of view to save yourself from some post-editing).

Help, please........
I have the exact same issue. I live in a 3G Extended Network area. Data on Droid X worked fine. Got Galaxy Nexus knowing I wouldn't have 4G (3G has been perfect for me). I was out of town when I got it in a Verizon Network. Drove home and...well...no data on Galaxy Nexus. Told Verizon tier 2, and they said it was a "known issue". I've flashed all radios and combinations and nothing has worked yet.
There isn't much you can do, but I bet if you petition/complain enough VZW could actually expand the network. Get others in your area to call in about it. You can't really blame the phone, even if the Rezound is working correctly.
Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue. I'm also in an extended coverage only area and tend to have 6 or 7 hour stretches of no data. I've gotten two nexuses and neither has been better than the other. Previously had a Droid that never lost signal. As far as getting them to expand their network here, it won't happen because of some stupid municipal law in the county I live in that only allows a certain number of wireless providers and vzw was late to the party. In my case, I'm holding out hope that my situation will improve when the provider here (Cellcom) lunches their 4g network in q2 since they are one of the rural roaming partners for verizon.

[Q] AT&T How do i tell if i'm on LTE or HSPA?

This is what my phone looks like when using data (i'm on at&t):

It just has a 4G logo, but i saw a video of someone else that had a 4G logo with LTE over it. Am i on lte? The closest lte city (on the at&t coverage map) is out of state for me, so i was unsure if i was on lte or not. The best speeds i've seen so far are 9500kbps down / 1200kbps up.
The reason i'm asking is because i think i found a way to disable lte and force hspa+ connection. I created a new APN and entered the details i found online. When i switch to this alternate APN, the 4G logo is the same, but my speeds are different (5000 kbps down instead of a consistent 9000+). When i switch back to the default APN my speed goes back up to 9000+.
Will using this alternate APN which yields slower data speed save battery for me?
That's HSPA, on your screen shot.

Thought so. Will using the other APN save battery then? since it yields slower speeds?

This is the logo you'll see if you're on AT&T's LTE
Dont think it will save anything as lte us still enabled.
I am not in an lte area and get good battery. From 1 to 2days depending on use and whether I turn off data at night.

Data Profile settings questions

Just want to ask a few quick questions before I go poking around too much in the ##3282# settings. I got my MSL code and have been looking around in the settings windows. And a few of them made me wonder.
The first is the IOTHiddenSettings menu. It list all the various modes of the phone. Its currently set to "LTE+CDMA+EVDO mode". I'm assuming this is the best mode vs LTE Only Mode. That mode would probably keep me from having service since I dont live in an LTE area atm based on sprints latest coverage map. But what about the "hybrid mode" or the "global mode" options? Will those give me something faster than 3g? Maybe let me roam onto a local LTE network like AT&T's?

Next is the APNs list. I'm just curious if its really set for the best one?
My ultimate goal is to get this phone to stop having such a slow connection while away from wifi. I swear this thing feels like its on dial up at times. And I'm standing in a place that I know should be getting speeds a lot better than 21kb/s. Such as downtown Baltimore. Or the national mall in DC. Places where I've got full signal strength and would expect a network that could handle better speeds even with a lot of people.
GSM must be a different animal. Because with my AT&T iphone, I've seen it show 3g, 4g, and LTE. I tend to get 4g in most places. 3g happens when I'm going way out. Like Harper's Ferry, WV or somewhere similar. LTE happens everywhere in the city.
Why can't this note 2 get that kind of speeds on sprint? I don't remember their network being this bad in the past.

Depending a your location, sprint might be be working on the 4g LTE, so it might be causing slower data issues since they are working on the towers, the trick is, they work on those towers batch by batch and chances are there would be a better working cellsite in your neighborhood...u can ##SCRTN#, enter ur msl code and the phone will reprogram itself, while doing that, it will be looking for the nearest best signal, so u might lock on a better tower. As per the "Hybrid Mode" i believe its a network mode for 3g CDMA and the 1X EDVO...if you do not have 4g in area, i'll recommend sticking to cdma only, as for the APN, you are on the best one available in ur area right now...

I317M - LTE not working

I just hopped on the Note 2 wagon from a GS2. It's been only 2 days, but love it so far. Only problem, I can't seem to be able to acces LTE even though i'm in an urban area where LTE is available. Coverage is good here with Bell Canada. I know with my GS2 i was able to go in the Band Selection Service Menu, to choose the band i wanted to use. Is there such menu with the I317M? Or is there another way to select LTE?
Thanks!
No toggle to turn it on or off as far as I know. Does LTE work in other locations?
Moved around the city with no luck only H+.
Are you using an LTE micro SIM with the Note2?
I worked as a cellphone dealer, you must be on an LTE data plan with a LTE sim card to receive LTE. Call bell to verify you have an lte capable sim card and are on an lte plan.

I suspect than my current micro sim is not but before going back to the store i wanted to try everything.
As long as you're on a postpaid plan with at least 500 MB of data /month, you are eligible for LTE with an LTE capable phone and micro SIM. Bell's LTE micro SIM card is labeled "LTE".

Thank, I just got off the phone with Technical Services and they came to the comclusion that my sim is not LTE compatible. Thanks for the picture, it confirms also that it is not. My micro sim does not mention LTE on it. So I'll go to the store where I bought it at lunch and ask them to replace it.
Thanks!

Yes, i'm stock. The only thing I did was to root it with ChainFire's Exynos Exploit app.
Another thing to check is to make your APN is set up correctly for Lte. Hope you get the problem fixed!

I went to Bell Store at lunch. Exchanged my microSIM for another one with the mention of LTE on it. Now, my phone can receive and transmit in LTE with no problem.
Thanks everyone.
After reading through this thread I too swapped out an old SIM for a new one. But my problem was calls dropping or going straight to voicemail and lte not working in areas but my husbands would work. Got the new SIM card yesterday haven't missed a call, connecting to lte is fast and steady and a bonus is my phone seems to be a little more snappier then b4 like when closing and opening apps or watching youtube videos. Thanks OP for making this tread or else I might not have figured out what was wrong with my phone.

Straight Talk AT&T Nightmare

I have used straight talk since I had my Oneplus One and always used AT&T towers. I've always received 4G LTE with that device. Since recently purchasing the Oneplus 3 and activating my new AT&T sim from straight talk, I have only gotten 3G with straight talks recommended APN settings. After spending hours on the phone with straight talk reassuring my phone has LTE capabilities.
I did do research about this problem and it looks like AT&T does not recognize this IMEI as an LTE compatible phone. After attempting to tell straight talk to try and activate my IMEI as an LTE compatible device, they sent me to AT&T. Which after being bounced around multiple times, even to some number that just gave me ads. They finally just told me they can not do anything because I have a straight talk account.
I then threw this sim card into multiple devices and received 4G on all of them.
So long story short, if anyone has had any experience or advice with this problem please comment otherwise I'm just going to change service providers... F*** Straight Talk.
I used to get a Straight Talk SIM for summer motorcycle trips. I have T-Mobile and after ATT tried to buy them, my phone didn't have service in lots of places that it did before.
Now I notice that ATT has the same $45/month pre-paid plan that I used to get on Straight Talk. You might try that one and see if it works for you.
I have straight talk AT&T with no problems. I had to try a few APN to get one that worked. I just Google Straight Talk AT&T APN settings. They are a lot to try. Try one and wait 5 to 10. It takes time for the new APN to kick in. Once it goes LTE, it will go straight to it now. It is not straight talk issue it is AT&T issue. They give MVNO providers low priority. That is why it takes time to get it to go LTE. I will take screen shot of my settings to see if they work for you.

Thanks, but no go. After testing settings, I flashed Freedom OS and it shows HSPA+. with both the settings you provided and the ones straight talk specifically provided me.
I did do a speed test and got 194ms ping, 5.26mb download and 1.34mb upload if anyone can compare.

Tried these settings already, after allowing hours for it to turn to 4G and multiple reboots. I'm still left with HSPA+. I'm quickly thinking this could be a modem hardware issue. I've tried installing most of the custom Roms available and as soon as I connect to a wifi network it restarts the phone and will keep restarting as soon as it connects to a wifi network . The only Roms that work are oxygen and freedom os.
There shouldn't be any difference between straight talk and legacy AT&T. Did you try running the phone using AT&T APN settings Instead if straight talk?
For what's it's worth, I have AT&T and I've had trouble with the hand-off from 3G to LTE. I live in an area without LTE but can drive in any direction half a mile and get LTE. The same thing was true with my LG3, but the hand-off was seamless.
T-mobile has enhanced LTE in my area and I'm now testing straight talk T-mobile in my second SIM slot.
It automatically loaded the T-mobile APNs and they work, as does straight talk.
I'm getting 2 bars of T-mobile LTE now and so there is no hand-off issue.
If all goes well for a month, I'll dump AT&T and either stay with straight talk or move to T-mobile.

I share the same problem, OnePlus 3t on straight talk using at&t sim card. I can only get H+ on the status bar. Speed test max speeds of 10Mbps, usually around 6-7Mbps. I have scoured the internet for a solution to no avail. Tried swapping the sim card from my son's Galaxy S4 on the same network, but still H+ only. Both sim cards pull 30-50Mbps lte speeds in the S4. Both sim cards pull 4-6Mbps in the 3t. S4 is rooted running synergy mod flawlessly. I tried every apn on the internet. Even flashed back to stock rooted from lineage Pie. Entered the phone information page from the dialer menu. Lte physical configuration is blank?
Called straight talk, but their system hangs up on you when you get transfered to the department with some expertise, if that really exists there? None of my efforts got me lte. I really like this phone, this issue makes me feel like ditching the high-end garbage for something old but reliable. Makes no sense why so many 3t users get 4g lte with no problem, but then a few of us don't? See the screenshot of phone information.
