[Q] Cracked Glass - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ive been looking everywhere to find out if its possible to replace just the glass for the 4g touch. I see that they sell them on Ebay but i read somewhere about a different phone that its quite difficult and the bond between the new glass and screen is not good. Can someone please shed some light on this for me? Has anyone accomplished this with good results? Any help and info is greatly appreciated.

The screen is bonded to the glass, in so far as I know other than buying a parts phone there is also no way to source just the glass, and even if you do and somehow manage to detach the old screen without breaking it you're not going to like how it looks (worse than a poorly affixed screen protector). Do yourself a favor and just buy the whole assembly (screen/glass), it'll save you a lot of time and wasted effort, check out the "where can I sell my parts cheap" thread in general, dude has screens for like $50 shipped, not gonna do much better than that anywhere... good luck with it,

ok i need your help . Galaxy Nexus Screen scratch. can i replace the digitizer

Hi.
my question says it all.
i have a perfect galaxy nexus screen. no weird grid. no weird uneven colors. nothing. just perfect. however, i have few scratches by mistake on the screen " digitizer it self "
is it possible to replace the digitizer without replacing the screen ? money isnt an issue even if its the price of a new phone. its just i have OCD and i do like my screen perfect.
so . is it possible to replace the digitizer alone ? " even if i have to buy them both lcd screen and digitizer ", i will keep the new screen extra for future
I don't think the digitizer is up for sell separately yet.

I've read that the glass is fused to the housing and display but I'm interested in this as well as I have a spec of dust under my screen.

I'm unable to post links yet, so go to iFixit and search for "Galaxy Nexus teardown". Seems the screen and digitizer are fused together, sorry

i did go to that site before you post it. thanks for trying to help. however i am just wondering that even if they are fused together, can i still take them apart ?
i really dont want to lose that screen
Hopefully the overall quality will improve with the samoled displays in the near future and buying a replacement housing/digitizer will almost guarantie you a good result (dont hold me to it though, just wishfull thinking).. i have some micro scratching aswell (seems to be a normal problem with this device) but only really visable under a really strong super-led flashlight. I'm starting to feel ok with it however and decided to wait with getting a replacement till the price has gone down.

I read that one of the members here used a blow dryer on the screen and used a suction cup to remove the screen on their Galaxy S II. If these two devices were constructed similarly then this method may have some merit.

the "super" in super amoled means the digitizer and screen are fused together.
i dropped my phone from about 3 feet and broke under my screen but not the screen itself can anyone recommend a good company to buy these parts from??
There's a guy from HK selling it on eBay here. However that means that you'd need to change it yourself. I have looked at the ifixit website about the assembly of the device; however it depends on how comfortable each one is with changing it themselves.
It is quite expensive as well... I will still get a quote from Samsung prior to venturing with this option.

To the OP
Where are you getting the digitizer from? If it is sold as fused with the screen, then there's not much trying to tear the combo apart and getting it to look like a machine job will be a challenge. I assume you'd need to build a clean room setup somehow...
Anyways you could possibly verify if the screen quality is to your standards with the eBay seller I mentioned above and buy on that arrangement; however getting the other side to agree/be honest may not be easy.
Instead, why not buy the best screen protector? Those wet ones you get nowadays. Not only will it get rid of the scratches but will also protect your phone for a long time...I think that is a better cheaper investment unless you are sitting on a pile of....cash...

I have since this post received 2 more scratches and both is showing quite easy with screen off in normal lighting, last one i got today and that one´s really bugging me since it looks like something rubbed against the screen a few times.. I always.. always always! only keep my phone in my pocket on my jacket with a plastic zipper and only a microfiber cloth goes in the same pocket.. digitizer actually feels weaker then my old X10's which (apart from that i dropped it and cracked a corner a month before getting the GN) looks rather good to have been tossed around and been riding my workpants which has been everything BUT clean.. a few deep scratches but 18 months of abuse, i'd say it's in good condition! I refuse to put a screenprotector on this phone, initially i did get one.. that one scratched during installation using a regular creditcard and it just looked terrible with the peeling around the edges so, no more protectors.... and i (along with other here at the forum) believe that it is not actually the glass that scratches but rather the oleophobic coating getting scratches.. because the scratches are really really thin but clearly visible.. it's a shame.. but when the next scratch comes, i'm gonna stop being anal about it and just toss it in my right jeans pocket where the phones usually go.. never in my workpants though.. that would kill the coating in a day.

N7000 Replenishment Screen

Hello guys,
10 minutes ago my galaxy note N7000 screen cracked in my pocket.
So I need to buy a replenishment screen from Samsung but I simply can't find stores that supplies replenishment parts for it. Do anyone knows where to buy a new Amoled LCD screen for galaxy note ?
Thank you and best regards,
Amid
ebay, took 5 days to ship from HK to NYC. Follow youtube guide in opening the note and use blow dryer/heat gun to loosen the sceen, wedge open with something sharp and slowly tear back the screen gently. You will need the old Wacom sensor from the broken screen so becareful to not to rip it. There is guide in the general section. I broke mine 2 weeks ago and replaced it in a hour. take your time you can get it done.
Thanks man. Just to be sure, the price is about US$ 230,00 for it ? i am not sure if I am looking for the right spare part.

I can try but I don´t think this will help the problem. The screen doesn´t show any images anymore, looks like a broken LCD. When you press it, a lot colors appears around it. Do you believe this is the one I need ?

Hmmm no, in that case you will need the 200ish one.
You will need the entire setup, glass, LCD, and Touch. Does not come with Wacom sensor. Looking around you can get them for 230-260. Look for delivery, that makes a huge difference, especially with your phone out of commission.
This is the guy I purchased mine from, but I panic and purchase the first one I saw. If you do some research you will find cheaper, but I got min in 5 days. So I am glad this guy came thru. Good luck, its going to stress you out a bit when you have to remove the screen from the front panel, they are glued on so take your time. Looks like your LCD broke so it is going to crack and shatter further so make sure you do it in area where it is easy to clean. If you look at the front panel after you remove it, you will see one wire that does not come with the replacement one, that is for the wacom sensor, so be careful and don't damage that part, you will need to peel it off and place it back on to the replacement lcd, otherwise your s-pen won't work. It's been 2 weeks, my phone is going strong and no sensor or sceen issues. You should get a more protective case, since you probably already blew close to ~$1000 on this phone by now. I have a casemate, otterbox commuter looks like a good one. Once again good luck, you can do this.
Please stop advising people to do something that is not meant to be done and can possibly damage their phone even more. And most likely look completely rubbish when assembled.
The correct repair part is a complete display assembly including everything - the glass, digitizer, Wacom digitizer, AMOLED, bezel, frame abd home button. It costs around 260 dollars on eBay and is relatively simple to install. By installing the complete assembly you don't need to worry about separating the glass and AMOLED or about the Wacom digitizer, since they are all included. Just remove the screws, back housing and motherboard, disassemble the audio flex cable and front camera flex from the old display and put them into the new one. Most displays also require the old charger port flex and speaker module to be used.
The correct part looks like this, for example: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=320843198847
Well mine looks brand new, must be the workmanship ;-P But why flame my advise when he is going to need to do it anyways, the screen is completely useless, as was mine. Why don't you keep your assumption to yourself in how it will look or if he is going to ruin the device. If he decides that he would rather live with a crack screen or someone who is willing to do it, there really isn't much options here. What's up with such negative attitude here. Just trying to show him that it can be done.

Replacement screen with 2 connectors
Hello!
First of all I would like to say Thank you for all the resources provided in this forums!
Could someone please help me to find a replacement screen for the International version of the Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with 2 connectors? This phone has the physical home button. All the replacements that I've been able to find have just the first connector. I tried to post a photo hoping to help better explain it, but I can't do it yet.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Hi ,
I think Senior member Justis is right... many of us dont want to do a full screen replacement for 220$...when we can just remove the front screen for 20$..many have done this method successfully... U just need to watch a lot of youtube videos on this and be careful/delicate with the procedure... its possible.
So i dont think what he said was a waste.. Pls keep such remarks to yourself.. He was not wasting anyones time.
Infact you are wasting my time making me read your message and give u a reply.

glass for the galaxy nexus

Unfortunately i dropped my.nexus and now theres a nasty scratch on the screen that drives me.crazy.
Ive been looking on ebay and found this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Front...101?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item460528e5ed but reading about the g nexus it says the glass and the digitalizer are fused so why is the glass sold by separate?
im going to assume that it would be extremly difficult to put it back together but if your good with that kind of stuff go for it but i wouldnt

Is there a way to polish it? Id like to know what product would be good to use to take it off
I wouldn't do it
The glass and digitizer are fuzed but you can seperate them with a heat gun. Its not really a DIY thing for your average person though.
The heatgun method should work for you, but like the post above me stated, it's a bit more difficult for the average DIYer. I used this method on my Asus Transformer attempting to get the glass off and ended up cracking the digitizer a little bit. If you take your time and you are very careful with it, it can be done.
One suggestion for you when you are heating the phone, it'll be hot to the touch so keep some gloves handy. Also when attempting to remove the glass, get yourself some industrial grade suction cups and stick those to the screen to yank it off.
I didnt think it woukd be that difficult. I think ill live with it and use a screen.protector. the whole assembly.is.really ezpensive and not.worth the scratch

If I may make a recommendation: Do you live in an area where people advertise to repair Smartphone and other device screens? You may be able to find someone on Craigslist who can perform the repair for you.
You should buy some of that dynaflow liquid armor and see if you can fill in the scratch with it. It might not work but it could be worth it to try.

Truth ^^^ My friend had a nasty scratch on his HTC Evo 3D and I remember him applying a screen protector using the wet application method. That would be the first cheapest option and you can EASILY diy.

Indeed. XO Skins claim their screen protectors fill in 95% of existing scratches; granted, your scratch might be in the really bad 5% that it can't completely fill in, but it's definitely worth a shot. Last I checked, the cheapest you can replace the screen for is about $163 through the Samsung repair center, but that's only if you're in the US. All the DIY screen replacement kits I could find were over $200 and none of the local shops would do it for the galaxy nexus.

I struggled with this decision myself. I have a minor crack and some small scratches in my display so I looked into this a few months ago. It looks pretty invasive and harder to do than it should be, IMHO.
Not trying to discourage you, there are some good YouTube vids out there that will give you an Idea of what's involved. Take a look for yourself.
If you do decide to go ahead please and try take some notes and pics along the way and post them with your results. Good or bad.
I still think about doing it every so often but need my phone and until it cracks further what I have is better than nothing should things decide to go south during the removal and installation process.
I wish you luck! :good:
I've done a few of my own phones as long as your patient and have the right tools you can do it.... patients lol biggest thing. And youtube

It's really hard dude. The glass is like "super glued" to the screen around the edges. It's not like the I phones where they used double sided tape...no, this is almost a unibody screen and digitizer. You'd burn the screen with a heat gun before being able to separate it from the digitizer =\

Replacement Parts

If and when anyone replace any parts on this phone, like a screen, digitizer, frame or just anything, please share your experience here, thanks!
As I understand it, the original water resistance won't be relevant after tear-apart. Some impervious will be lost. The disassembly is more involved than most, in the past. I, myself, may be looking at getting a better phone via trade-in. Gone are the days, for the most part, of servicing the phone for a battery, to keep things going. I'll still monitor the posts about the phone, but things have gotten to where 'root' isn't much of a benefit anymore.

I'm in the process of getting a new screen, a frame and a battery. Right now the cost for the screen, digitizer and frame is around $175. Batter $7. There's pretty good instructions out there, so shouldn't be a problem.
Didn't you start this thread to share info when sourcing replacement parts?

If the image under the glass is broken and the touch panel is NOT then you only need an LCD.
If the top touch panel or (glass top) is cracked or broken but the image under it is fine then you only need the Touch Panel (relatively cheap).
If the top touch panel is broken and the lcd image is either black liquid or cracked you need a complete screen.
To be honest it's probably easier to get the combined parts to avoid having to separate LCD from digitizer and risk a failure. Since the digitizer is fused to the LCD you would need some special tools to remove the digitizer to ensure success. Separating the assembly with heatguns, etc. isn't that easy.
My advice: invest in replacing the complete assembly to ensure success.
Positively surprised
