Wife has question about the stock Samsung keyboard )which is chit btw lol). She swears up and down that the keyboards predictive text has gone nuts since a couple weeks ago. For example; typing "hey" the first choice would be "gdw". I've tried clearing defaults and all that junk. Nothings fixed the issue. The first choice of every word is the first letters of each key. Can anyone else confirm that this is the norm or is an issue.

This may be a silly question, but are you sure she has the T9 Trace on? It sounds almost like it's just typing each letter she hits as opposed to tracing and then predicting the word..

Yeah its on. Yeah its still predicting but you gotta click it after every word that's typed out. I'll get a screen shot the settings tonight.

Is there any way to set the standard predictive text to use most common words? I'm sick of dropping down the list to search for the right word.
Thanks
Dion.
I have no problems with it since I use.full English and very little slang. If you use a lot of slang then your going to have to add the words to the dictionary. I have added a few words already. But overall, it is the best predictive text I've ever used
No offence mate but that doesn't help at all. For instance the first word I typed, ''No'' was predicted as on so I chose No but it still uses on as the first prediction it does this with any common word I use.
Ok that is weird. Try turning it off or reboot your phone or something. It works a dream for me and I just typed in no and it was fine. Check words like amd which should come up as and. I couldn't tell you what the problem was. I just guess that it its that bad for you then just fully disable it
I want a phonepad t9 4x3 style keyboard that has t9 auto correct. Apparently samsung doesn't want this for me. Whenever I type a word, the mess of letters that I entered on the keypad are the default option, and for EVERY WORD i have to click the correct word next to it. Even if it's just "you" or there". I was reading online and a lot of other people are experiencing this too. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've hard reset it a few times to no avail.
This is my default option as it comes up, highlighting the mess of letters instead of to the right like it should. I watched a video on youtube and the guy was showing how it types and it was defaulting to the right, but mine isn't. It makes no sense.
and yes, we're talking about toilet paper haha
alright so I tried to use system app remover to uninstall the keyboard and reinstall it, but when I restore it from a backup, it doesn't do anything. I even put it in the apps folder by hand and its not reinstalling. I think that my backup is corrupted. does anyone have a copy of it that they can throw up here, or tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Swype Beta was just updated to 1.4. Update details per Android Central, "added Living Language, which takes auto correction and word prediction to a new level with crowd sourced data". Other additions include, "The correction engine has gotten an upgrade, and the new Smart Editor now analyzes your entire sentence, flagging any errors for correction or suggesting the best substitution based on the context of what you're saying, not just the word order."
Please share your thoughts on this version. Download is here: http://beta.swype.com/
That video was hilarious

Thanks Dave, I've always been a huge Swype fan, wouldn't buy a phone unless it was capable of using Swype. This version is pretty nice. Still playing with it. One thing I noticed is, it's not quite as easy to use punctuation as before (like anyone uses punctuation in texts anyway). I used to be able to tap on the last word I wrote and it would give me the option of ! , ? or whatever, now you have to long press the appropriate letter. Not a biggie just something I noticed. Still playing, but thanks for the heads up! :good:
I'm liking the built in themes!
Thanks for the info. Just updated. Hopefully the update will address the problem with personal dictionary disappearing followed by no longer able to add new words.

I've been messing with it for about an hour or so. The smart editor and next word prediction must take time to populate. As for the personal dictionary disappearing, I don't get why they have a register option, but no log in and sync dictionary option  As for adding words, I have had no issues there. One last thing I noticed is that Dragon seems a little more accurate. May be my imagination

One thing I really wish they had was an option to disable Dragon and use Google for voice typing.

There is login and the supposedly sync dictionary option. Under Swype connect, just tap into your registered email/account. Although I'm not sure how it works; I don't see any syncing between my two devices using the same account.
If this is your first time using Swype, then the dictionary disappearing issue I was referring to usually happens in a few days. Whatever triggered it I'm still unclear; I've tried with or without an account, checked and unchecked syncing option, and many other combinations... and it's usually after that disappearance the word addition ceases to work.

I've never had any issues with the voice typing. It works pretty good for me, even when I talk faster or stutter, it picks up remarkable well. Maybe it's just your Canadian accent

Lol! I just find Google voice typing works so well. Also I regularly hit the Dragon button by error due to its proximity to the enter button.
On another note, after a day of use, I have definitely noticed an improvement in word selection while swyping.

I am always open minded to better options & different ideas, but if you are going to post a statement like this, please explain how you have arrived at this conclusion.
I don't think anyone can debate the fact that Swiftkey has the best prediction machine out there for regular typing. I actually use Swiftkey on my tablet, and when drafting long emails on my phone in landscape. Given this I was very excited to try Swiftkey Flow, which I did, for both versions. In my experience, Swiftkey still has a long way to go to catch Swype when it comes to swype typing. Swiftkey Flow is not as accurate or smooth as Swype when swyping. My typing speeds on Swype are 25% faster than when using Swiftkey Flow. This is not surprising given Swype has been doing this since it was founded almost 10 years ago in 2003.

OK..I like the fact it auto spaces after punctuation. I can tell it to learn how I type from SMS, FB, or Twit. It goes out and does it's thing and says it learned. I can now to "Swiping" words in shorthand that I used in GOsms. Genius. I can swipe left quick quick quick and it will start to remove text I may want to remove. The keyboard has a fresh look with various themes. All Swype boards look the same to me. I bid you to try the latest version of flow. ...61. It's much improved

If you like to swype, you can do a period-to-space swype (same for question, exclamation mark, comma, colon, and double-quote). You can also double-tap space to get period-space now. I'm not sure when that was added though.
I love the punct gestures; long press is too slow.
When you stop on a letter and wait for the menu to pop up with the available choices, it would be nice to see the uppercase version of the letter there as well.
Otherwise I have been using Swype since this summer when I got my SG3 and love it.

Swype also auto spaces after punctuation. I have tried both versions of Swiftkey flow. There is no brand loyalty here, I just want the best solution for me.
At the end of the day, this decision is personal and very much driven by what one is accustomed to. Let's bury the comparison discussion for now, the purpose of this thread is for discussion around the new Swype release.
Or just swype from the question mark or exclamation point to the space bar and it will input whatever special character your swyped from..... It's the easiest way.

I just sent an Support ticket to Swype asking if there's an option to export/import words of/to the user dictionary of Swype and additionally asking if there is a general problem with dictionaries bigger than about 1300 words. Swype worked miserable for me as my dictionary grew this big. I had to manually delete words to solve this probleme and I was quite a bit annoyed...
yes me too, I think I did contact them about a year ago. they said no. if they do help you let me know
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
The support answered me, that the export is not possible and thats really bad.
The import is annoying but no big thing. Just make an long txt file, one word a line. You can't import all the words at once, but if you mark about twenty of them and then long press the Swype key you will be pretty quick importing 1200 words - what I did in about 20 minutes or so.
Yesterday I received the 104.88 MB firmware update for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ( GT-N7100) on Android 4.4.2. After updating my device I am facing a very annoying bug from Samsung Keyboard.
When I type something the keyboard predicts the word for example if I am typing 'Hel' it will predict the word as 'Hello'( which is great) but when you click on the predicted text it gives you two spaces automatically instead of one. It continues for each and every predictive text. If I turn off the auto spacing feature, no space is provided. So it is either zero or two but not one.
It is very annoying to keep deleting extra spaces between words of every sentence, especially when typing an email or tweeting where characters are limited.
It looks like this when you type with and without predictive text and auto spacing features.
Please help.
This is not a solution per se to your issue. But I would suggest that you ditch the Samsung keyboard and install SwiftKey from play store. It is now free. And much better than any other keyboard that I have tried. Give it a try.

I am also facing the same issue in my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (GT-N7100).
Waiting for an answer/solution................
---------- Post added at 11:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:34 PM ----------
Swift Key works fine and does not show auto spacing issues. But I don't want to ditch Samsung keyboard because Swift Key app doesn't support S Pen Handwriting mode but Samsung keyboard does it well. And I use both Keyboard and S Pen Handwriting mode depending upon situation (for example: I use handwriting mode when sitting comfortably and Keyboard+Prediction when I am on travel/commute).
Please someone help me and others having same issue. How can we get rid of this two space prediction issue on Samsung keyboard on SG Note 2?

I just checked on my phone. The double spacing bug is indeed present in Samsung keyboard. We can only wait for an update from Samsung to resolve this issue. On the plus side, Swype keyboard is recognizing S-Pen input. So if you guys want you could try it. I am quite happy with SwiftKey. I mostly use flow input and SwiftKey is perfect for that.
Thanks for the reply.
I agree with you that Swype keyboard recognize S-Pen input if you use typing/swiping (flow input). But I don't think it is compatible for Handwriting mode with S-Pen.
As you mentioned, I am waiting (probably there are more like me) for an update from Samsung to resolve this double spacing bug in Samsung keyboard. Let us hope they will fix this bug soon.

Any way we can make Samsung know about this?
I guys, I've just registered for this topic as I am facing the same problem. Since the last update (which I recall it was about a week ago) I am having the 2 spaces problem after I pick any of the suggested words. Now, is there any way we can make Samsung know about this? Like a bug report or something similar. I don't want to leave Samsung's keyboard because it worked just fine and I am used to it, plus it supports handwriting and well, I am just used to how letters are organised and the distance between them, I type fluently.
Any help will be welcomed, thank you guys!
I googled and found that there is a way and someone has already reported this bug/issue in Samsung Developers Forum.
Let us wait for a response from Samsung.

Am experiencing the same double spacing issue with predicted text on the Samsung keyboard. Input using the Continuous Input function is fine though. Only touch type is messed up.
Build number: KOT49H.N7100XXUFNI4. This update was only about 84MB as opposed to the 104 MB update the OP received. Not sure of the release date but I only installed it yesterday.
Have installed SwiftKey to use in the meantime.
This topic creator, i.e. me, is the one who has reported in the Samsung Developer forum but still no response. I think it requires a 'famous' tech blogger to take this issue so that Samsung notices the problem. BendGate , GapGate but Note 2 users have SpaceGate !
Oh! I see, so it is you who reported this issue in Samsung Developer forum. Thanks for the information. Also thanks for posting it on Samsung Developer Forum, let us hope someone from Samsung Developers will notice it and do the needful. :fingers-crossed:
Like you and me there are a lot of Note 2 users who are waiting for a response from Samsung on this problem.
Let us hope and wait for a positive response from Samsung on this problem. :fingers-crossed:

Just downloaded the update 3 days ago, which introduced the issue on my Note 2 device. What is amazing, here we are several months since the pronlem has been reported to Samsung, and the issue still exists. Anyway to backout the last update?
