Camera App isn't saving pictures! Awarding $10 for solution. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

My camera app isn't saving anything locally whenever I take a picture. In fact, there's no gallery icon in the camera app at all that you can normally click on it to take you there.
Also, when I try to attach a photo to a message from the MMS app, Gallery crashes and photo never attaches.
Finally, when I load up Gallery manually, all it sees is my 'Screenshots' folder and a couple of screenshots that I have saved in there. There's no camera photos anywhere.
I'm running AOKP JB B2 and FrankoKernel Milestone 5
Any ideas? I've tried SD rescan already. I'm wondering if I need to reformat my internal storage. I've just noticed that my 'external storage' isn't showing up when I plug my GN into my PC as well and whenever I run SDRescan, SwiftKey starts getting angry and tells me I have no language files and I have to redownload the English dictionary again.
Finally, I'm offering $10 via PayPal to the person who can help me fix this issue. Thanks!

Is your camera folder still there?

Have you tried using an alternative camera app, to make sure the internal SD is working with photos? I suggest CameraICS, it'll be the closest other than CameraJB+, which is a paid app

Downloading now. My service is abysmal at work so it's taking a little bit.
EDIT: CameraICS has no icon for the Gallery when taking pictures. The pictures that are taken don't get saved to SD card. Trying to attach a picture to a message with it crashes CameraICS, instead of crashing Gallery as with the stock JB camera.

You might try re- downloading your ROM and re-flashing with a complete wipe

I believe this has persisted past a couple of ROM installs but I will install AOKP JB B4 when I get home tonight and see what happens.
Will update in ~3-4 hours when I get home and have time to do this. Maybe corrupted GAPPS? Is that the package with Camera / Gallery in it?

Depends on the Gapps package. Some have the Google built Gallery/Camera (with Picasa sync) others leave the source built version which has extra features such as using the power button for the shutter (but no Picasa sync).

Just finished flashing GAPPS and AOKP JB B4 from here:
http://aokp.co/index.php/releases/_/jb-build-4-r32
Verified the MD5 of both before flashing. And the same exact problem is persisting. Gallery crashes when attaching through MMS and camera photos end up lost in the ether, never saved to SD card.

Try This, flash it using CWM

This happened to me when I first rooted my Nexus. The camera toke the pics, but they weren't saved... plus some other weird things.
It ended being a file/folder permissions issue. It seems I did a nandroid backup restoration in a wrong way (I wanted to restore my previous data, after the mandatory wipe out of the rooting method).
Anyways... The post that gave me tips for the fix was this one (from user cmstlist):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26967620&postcount=7
Sometimes the file ownerships get messed up after a cycle of recovering the OS and restoring files.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1515291&page=2
If you have any other directories/files that you can't modify or delete, then boot into CWM recovery, plug in the USB cable, go into adb shell. Also make sure that /data is mounted in the CWM mounts menu. Then:
cd /data/media
chown -R media_rw.media_rw *
This fixed it for me and others.

This will require installing Samsung USB drivers along with the SDK will it not?

Whenever I go to "choose driver to install" windows says that it has determined that it has installed the best drivers already...
EDIT: Had to load into the Bootloader, right click Android 1.0 and then choose install driver.

Fixed! Fixing the folder permission was the key. Thanks to Transcan!

no external storage available

Hey everyone. im running jelly bean on my nexus. i deleted all of my stuff from my "sdcard" because none of it would show up under gallery or play music. i backed it up to my computer and then sent it all back to my phone. now my gallery says "no external storage available". im not too sure what went wrong, but does anyone know how to fix it? i downloaded "quickpic" on the play store and it shows my gallery fine, i guess i just would rather use the stock one. just not sure if anyone knows a solution to fix it. im on twitter as spdivr1122 if i forget to reach here. if you can help me that would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried this, didn't work for me. Now with Jelly Bean the camera doesn't work because it doesn't find external storage.
Any other thoughts?

I have the Nexus S and experienced the same issue, just had to remove the USB cable or disable usb connection (i was using the phone when connected with an USB cable to my computer).
That solved my problem on a Nexus S. Maybe the Galaxy Nexus works the same.

Great thought, but this occurs when the phone is not hooked up to a computer. There is no way to turn the external storage on and off.

I've tried now updating my Kernel and that didn't fix anything.
My next step is to go back to ICS to get my camera to work, not something I want to do, because I like the feel of JB.

the same issue...
it seems that JelyBean had a big issue and developers don't want to accept that and solve it! Moreover they are continue totally ignoring that issue and continue building a new ROM's.... I'm frustrated!
same issue here, tried three roms with full wipe.
Sure there's not a .nomedia file floating around in there somewhere?
I faced the same problem last night, and still haven't found a working solution.
I'm a long time user of Franco.kernel on stock 4.1.1, and last night I decided to try out MiNCO ROM v4. In TWRP I wiped cache, Dalvik, did a factory reset and even wiped system before flashing the ROM. It booted normally and looked and felt great, but opening Gallery gave me the "external storage" error.
I read countless threads on this error, and tried every suggested workaround, to no avail.
Steps taken:
clear data in Gallery app and reboot
clear data in Media Storage and reboot
search for rogue .nomedia files in /storage/sdcard0/ and subdirectories (this was really an issue with a recent ROM Manager update, which I don't use)
restore Gallery.apk from a nandroid of stock ROM using TiBu
reflash gapps
reflash kernel
factory data reset
reflash ROM
I eventually felt I had no choice but to restore my nandroid of Stock 4.1.1!
Good news: no more "external storage" error
Bad news: hello, square one! :crying:
I hope some of the steps above work for at least some of you similarly afflicted, but I'm stumped...
This is the solution to your problem, I guess.
SD?

Are you flashing everything from the card?, try to do it from the internal memory, so the installation sets the internal memory as the second storage device (internal or whatever) and the card as an external device

In fact i had the same problem a few days ago, and what i said worked, just be sure to backup your data and everything, then flash the rom from internal memory, the gapps are optional as the backup has them, then restore the backup, on the next reboot you should see everything as you left it, go to your gallery and the toast should not appear anymore, try it:good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:

VZW Droid Incredible 2. Stock rom. Rooted. Tried to download a short artistic video from an app I got off of Snappz (not sure if the video is going to internal storage or SD.) Anyways, thing keeps saying 'download unsuccessful.' I don't care about the download anymore. It won't stop trying to download this video. I've tried a reboot, I force stopped the process that I got the artistic video from. Out of ideas. Tried searching google and XDA. No luck. How do I stop this thing?
Edit: Deleted the app that was causing the issue. Don't know why I didn't think of that first.

Might I suggest, sadly, the last two options:
Completely delete the entire SD card. If that doesn't work, format your phone. If you're rooted, backup any NECESSARY data, (no options, settings or anything like that, just in case it's related to the settings, but you can make a back up, just don't restore), and then reset device to factory default and see if that eliminates the issue.
Wait, are you rooted? On stock Android Galaxy Note 2? Or do you have any special changes done to your phone?

Are you on CM10?
I believe that this is a bug that has been hitting Samsung phones. It's either, a) a fault in the MMC chip, or b) a CM10 bug. I've had that happen 3 times to me, the 1st time I had no backups and lost over 10GB of media from my External SD Card. The other 2 times I was prevented and lost everything but had a backup. So protip : backup each time you have something new on your phone. Better safe than sorry.
Now, download this program and run it. It'll recover almost all the deleted photos from your SD : http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Hi, I dont know if I have CM10 :S .. i only know that I have anything as brand new (stock rom).
I found a solution but it`s not 100% working.
I downloaded Fish bowl gallery and go in setting>advanced>find missing photos> and than I select the maps where the photos are but are not shown in the stock gallery.
I waited till photos are added and now i have 100 photos (of 117 total) added in my stock gallery (but i still does not have other 17 photos)
Thank you
You should return your phone. If your pictures aren't showing up even after flashing an official rom then something is wrong.

That sounds as though your phone isn't actually reaching the facebook page but is being redirected somewhere else. Are you sure it's not something to do with your wifi network? Can you get to facebook OK from a laptop?
I'd expect this sort of thing if you were connected to a hotspot without having logged into the hotspot from the phone.

My GF with Samsung Galaxy S, and all others that I know, dont have problems...
Found this problem on other forums too, all Desire's
And one have tried a factory reset.
Facebook was unreachable a couple of days ago. But I got a message saying that they are doing maintenance. When it came back up, all it had me do is log back in. Everything is fine until now.
I wonder if your issues has something to do with the Facebook integrated on Sense. You guys using Sense roms by any chance?

Same here since a couple of days. It seems to be a problem on FB side, but in some way related to the software of the phone. I own a Desire with RcmixS Rom Gingerbread. I flashed it with an ICS Rom and it worked after that. Come back to Gingerbread after factory wipe and problem is there again.

But still related to Desire, how weird
Cause on a Samsung Galaxy S, running 2.3 GB, it's working just fine.

Trying logically to understand why this happens only on Desire with gingerbread (since on my with ICS it was working) and looking at the error I thought it could be a problem of certificates that are not up to date, in this case may be only on a specific android distribution like the one we have on Desire... (app developer are maybe forgetting our loved phone since it's getting older) so I tried to understand how to update this certificates and I've finally found that there are some files where they are stored inside a system directory.
Here attached you can download a zip with some certificates I found. To install them you have to put the file on the SD, go into recovery mode and then simply choose to install a zip from SD card. Reboot... My FB started working again! I had tried everything before this without success... so maybe this will work for you too.
Let me know! :fingers-crossed:

I BET it's because facebook.com have automatic activated some new security settings, https, and (dont know the english word for it) safe login, where you will receive an sms the first time you log on from a new unit...
I downloaded your zip file, extracted cacerts.bks, cwcerts.zip & otacerts.zip and copied them to my system/etc/security folder, quick restart, and it's WORKING :good:
And I was receiving an sms so that i could log on.
Funny part is, that those certificates looks older than the ones I allready got, but they are a little bit bigger.
But it's working... thank you

I've been having the same problem since Monday, only I don't have a Desire but a Wildfire S. I don't seem to have the system folder on the SD-card nor can I find anywhere else to put the files (I tried putting them in the .android_secure-folder just to try anything and restart but no progress...). Is there perhaps another way to fix this for a Wildfire S? Thank you!

Is your mobile rooted?
Don't think you can do it if it's not rooted

Yes, having LeeDroid you should already have a cooked recovery... just power off the phone, keep pressed vol - and power... choose recovery with vol buttons and enter with power button. You should be now on you recovery (probably clockworkmod). Choose install zip from SD and select certs.zip you can find on my previous post and that you have to put on your SD. At the end reboot. You should now be able to use FB.
installed the certs and Facebook is now working. :good:

No låvisa, the folder is on the internal memory, but you can't write on it if you are not rooted. You can probably apply the file from the recovery also without root, but you need a cooked recovery. To permanently install the clockworkmod recovery, that is not the stock one and that have more option like the one to install zip, again you would need to be root. Instead I think you can (I've never do it this way, sorry...) install the clockworkmod recovery temporary without root from your stock recovery, just the time to flash my zip.
Here you can find all the available way to install the clockworkmod, look at the update.zip method:

[Q] All media files are missing

I set an alarm on my Galaxy Nexus to wake me up this morning. And I hear a sound before my alarm rang, then I woke up. And the sound is coming from my phone. And I thought my friend changed my alarm ringtone. But when I go into the setting, the alarm ringtone is still the one I set. But how could the ringtone changed? And i freaked out. Then I goto Gallery, All photos are gone, including camera photos, Whatsapp photo, Viber photo and also Instagram. Then I go to Play Music, all songs are also gone.
Then I searched from the net, Many posts say that it is caused by ROM Manager (RM). But I dint install it at all1 before. I only unlock my bootloader and flashed my phone to yakju using the factory image from Google Developer website, because the original one I had is yakjuxw (something like that? Cant really remember the actual variant I had).
I am using File Manager to browse the files on my phone. What I have tried since this morning are, (1) Search for .nomedia and deleted all of them. (2) Then I also cleared cache and data and also forced stop the Gallery, Google Play Music and Media Storage from Setting -> Apps -> All. (3) Then I also downloaded Rescan Media. Then i use Rescan Media. Then I go to Gallery and saw 4 to 5 photos are there. But after I repeat the procedures of clearing the cache and data, force stop and rescan, the 4 to 5 photos in gallery are gone again.
I really need the photos and songs back. Can anyone out there help me? Your advanced reply is much appreciated. Thank you.

I also did the flashing last year. I did the unlocking and flashing together. After that, I dint do anything about ROM anymore.
Can anyone help?
Using file manager you can see your files, is that it? What about ADB? Can you list the files/folders through adb shell? I suggest you 'fastboot boot customrecovery.img' and fix permissions.

Nope. I use File Manager but I can't see the files too. The whole 'media' folder is gone. ADB? What is that? How do i 'fastboot boot customrecovery.img'? It sounds familiar. Is it part of flashing?
