How the hell am I supposed to access the files on my SD Card through my PC ?
I already installed Kies but whenever I plug in my Note 2 I am getting the message "Missing Hardware ID".
Anyone ? Would appreciate any help as I am trying for nearly an hour to get this to work ...
Thanks =)

KIES broke my connection too.
I tried everything, but keep getting the "Hardware Id Missing" message from Windows.
I removed Kies, all drivers, all USB devices. Installed the Samsung USB drivers from the Galaxy toolkit (version 1.5.9.0)
Still, I get this error and the device cannot connect.
I wished I knew that Kies would f*ck up the drivers; I still don't know what to use Kies for anyway.
In USBDeview I see this for the USB driver:
Device name: Port_#0001.Hub_#0002
Device type: Unknown
Version: 2.9.503.726
Description: SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device
Service Description: SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device Driver (DEVGURU Ver.)
I tried everything I found on the internet (and especially here on XDA) but nothing works.
Please help me with this severe problem!

Airdroid only works when on the same network. But, our business Wifi is on another network (for security), so it would have to connect via Internet.
Google search for this apk SGS3_Easy_UMS. There is a thread in somewhere. If your phone is rooted then this apk will work on your N7100. I am using it and it works fine for me.

Well appearently they are not quite installed correctly, or it would work I would uninstall all the drivers and Kies if you have it installed, reboot and connect your phone and force Windows to install the drivers.
Still fails
i know what we have to do to get mtp drivers working
And that is? factory reset phone?
Remove files wpdmtp.inf and wpdmtp.PNF from the folder Windows/inf/ make sure u do a backup
If this works dont forget to press thanks
Still not working
im having the same issues here
Me too...Installation of MTP failed...
I have tried almost everything. And i said ''almost'' cause the answer is somewhere around...
So, i used fresh kies installation - failed
I unistalled Kies and drivers, reboot, install only drivers - failed
I unistalled drivers, reboot, connect my phone to find MTP auto - failed
I reinstall all previous for 2nd time - failed
I install microsoft MTP drivers - failed
I tried in all usb ports in my PC - failed
I tried previous samsung drivers - failed
The last solution is to format PC but i want to avoid this if its possible...
If someone google the problem can find lot of people with this but not a clearly answer. We are not alone in this universe!!!
If someone, master of windows 7 (64) can help, will be my hero!!!!!!!
I ended up factory restoring my phone and the it finally works, sad but true it seems to be the only fix.

Oh man ... I had MTP working flawlessly yesterday ... but today I can't get it to work. Bone stock SGH-i317 (the AT&T version of the Galaxy Note 2)
In Windows Device manager:
MTP USB Device:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
Just using stock Windows 7 x64 bit drivers -- had no Samsung software installed at all. And then on the phone sometimes after unplugging from the phone "MTP" force closes on the phone. Maybe if I clear Media Storage on the phone.... clearly this is a phone issue and not something on my PC>
---------- Post added at 03:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:23 PM ----------
Yes, that worked. Go to Settings -> Application -> All and find "Media Storage."
Then hit clear data. MTP will work again.
You will need to rebuild the database, which will happen automatically. May take a while depending on how much stuff you have on the phone. There are tools on the Play store to help you look at the status of this process.
I had this problem from day 1. And no matter what I do I couldnt get it to work, I think I tried every solutions on the net already. I reinstall windows and been working since. Of course that's the last resource if you cant get it to work.
Make sure you haven't froze the "mtp application"in titanium or a similar program.
I couldn't get my note connected to my PC until I unfroze that app.

Try restarting your phone. I had the same issues with my Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Galaxy Note II. It should work. It did for me

Don't factory default your phone.
Like in my post above, just go to Applications -> All and select 'Media Storage' ... Hit clear data. Problem solved.
I just had this happen again -- and this fix worked perfectly -- again.

Good Evening folks,
I'm posting here after spending the better part of 2 days trying to figure out why this doesn't work.
So, i have the following:
model: GT-N7100
Version: 4.1.1
Build: JRo03C - ALJ1
I run a PC with windows 7 and also have a laptop with windows 8.
Now, initially i only wanted to root my device to install an addblocker on it and get rid of some bloatware. so i went and got samsung note2 toolkit here on XDA. (also tried others)
but no matter how i tried the pc (nor laptop) would see the note 2. it would plug in, it would charge... but windows ignored it otherwise.
i have tried al 8 of my USB ports on the desktop, and all 3 on the laptop. none of them work
3 different USB cables.
re-booted more then times then i can count.
i have manually installed the samsung drivers.
i have tried installing the windows MTP Porting kit
all to no avail.
So before i can even START to root... i need it to to play nice with my machines... anyone have ANY suggestions on what the hell is going on here.

Did you install Kies on your PC? That program needs to be open when you connect your phone and then it will install the needed drivers.

Or install the drivers using the Note Toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923956
Does it show as an unknown device in windows under device manager?
I'm having the same issue but I have a suspicion that its the USB port on the phone itself as my gnex can use the same cable/USB port and show up as mtp.

My Note 2 N7100 is 'seen' by my windows 8 machine, but it doesnt seem to copy/ paste anything. Pops up with an error. The same happens on a Mac Lion machine. Installed the Android File Transfer app, but the moment I connect my phone, it pops up a message saying please restart your device so that it can be detected. I am tired of transferring individual files over AirDroid Any help?

first of all I forgot to mention that this should've been posted in Q&A section
for the problem try the following steps. after each one of them try connecting again. keep net disconnected while you follow the steps.
if it starts working then stop other wise continue.
1)use a diff comp, but you already did that , use a different cable, you didn't mention it
2)try uninstalling drivers via programs and features.
3)try installing drivers - preferably via mskip's toolkit
if you have windows 7, then directly install it
if you have windows 8, then first disable driver signature enforcement via this guide's last question.
4)try re installing windows. if you don't wanna do that then
open device manager
in view -> show hidden devices
delete each one that says samsung, note ii or note 2, android, google, adb, gt-n7100, n7100
this will ensure that you truly remove drivers
follow step 3) after this.
Hope I helped
All the usual and helpful ideas have been listed and you should definitely work thru those to make sure you are not missing something obvious but critical. I also use Win8 (64) and all was well with my Note2 showing up as an MTP device and wll working then one day, seemingly spontaneously, it suddenly didnt! When I would plug my Note2 in, Windows would give me a USB error telling me it could nto recognise the device! To cut a long story short, I tried my wife's S2 and IT appered fine as an MTP device happily enough, so that ruled out the cable, the port and the computer/OS.
I then tried my Note2 on my laptop, and once again it came up as USB error, so the problem was following the DEVICE around....
After a lot of googling, I tried on thing that fixed it instantly:
On the phone, go into Settings, Security and delete all the "Device Administrators" which in my case was just my Email app. That did delete my email account from my phone (contacts, email etc) but didnt matter as phone is just a dumb client to the mail server so no loss of any real data.
Once removed, I then plugged phone in and BOOM! MTP device happily appeared! I then went back in and just re-added my email account and re-activated Device Administrator when asked. Working ever since.
Not saying this is your problem, but it was an eye opener to me that the Device Administrator could 'lock out' the USB connection of the device....
Hope this helps.

I would also recommend checking your Windows Update log - especially if you have it set to automatic updates. After I installed the drivers off of the Samsung website, Windows Update tried to "Update" my drivers to an older version (I do manual Windows Updates). The first time it asked, I let it, and my phone couldn't connect anymore. Once I stopped that silliness I stopped having problems.
same problem usb not conecting with my pc windows7

I was having the same problem, but I was using a USB cord that I had from my old phone. Switched to the white one that came with my Note 2 and it started working.
Whenever I connect my phone to the computer to put music on it i get a error message saying "Hardware Id Missing Windows cannot identify the device plugged into the SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device." Is there any way to fix this?
I believe, if you are on Windows, you can search for and download the Samsung drivers for your phone. You will have to choose 32 or 64 bit. Then it should show up as an extra storage device under the my computer program
Download kies, it will install the Samsung drivers. After installation connect your phone and let it connect. It'll take about 5 minutes then you'll be good to go.

Check whether you've firs installed Samsung USB Drivers in computer. Install KIES and it'll automatically install the drivers.
Also check the USB Debugging mode is not checked in your phone. It'll be there in Developer Options
adb non detect.
Yeah. I am having similar problem. Pc wont detect my phone even when usb debugging is on or off. Installed all necessary drivers and still wont detect. In fact my note 8.0 having the same problem. It was ok a few days back. Is it the phone or pc that is causing the problem? Note 2 was derooted and 8.0 original fw. Can anyone help?
yes i have the same issue as well
i have no idea why
Try to do everything from the begining. Uninstall all previous drivers that you have installed. Restart your computer. You could download and install Samsung drivers pack only if you don't use Kies (search on Google for the latest pack) or download and install latest Samsung Kies suite and install drivers that come with it. After that connect your phone to the PC using your USB cable. When it starts to search for drivers open that notification and you will see something like >> Skip obtaining drivers from internet<< Then it will automaticaly install drivers from PC (the one that you have installated previously) or it will prompt you to point to the folder where drivers were instalated. I can't remember exactly how it goes but this is the solution that worked for me...And you must click on skip for every single item (on driver list) or it will not be instalated properly...

Hello, I have a bricked i9250, no matter which button combination i use it doesnt boot up, just stays dark whole time.
It was bricked some years ago by a flashing mistake and now I decide to try and unbrick it.
I read the many threads here and stumbled upon tuna omap flasher, and here is the twist, my computer cant recognize the phone as it was never plugged in this computer (win 8.1 64bit btw) while the phone was still ok, and i dont have drivers for the phone installed, i mean, i have samsung drivers installed that come with kies, but every time i connect the phone without battery to the pc i get a message that the last connected usb device has malfunctioned and windows doesnt recognize it. I did install the omap 4460 driver under device manager -> add legacy driver from the tuna omap flasher package, but i still get the same message everytime i connect the phone to pc.
Does any have the omap 4440 driver maybe that other people speak of in other similar threads?
PS in this thread htt p:// forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/development/guide-unbrick-guide-galaxy-nexus-maguro-t2146790 ath the 3rd step, when i double click adb-windows and fastboot-windows, are these two cmd windows supposed to stay open or run some stuff and then immediatelly close?

Nope, no idea.. Try following the process with the battery disconnected and plugging it in after connecting the USB cable
These are just general pieces of advice, I have no clue on how does the tool actually works in the first place
