You can use most guides for arc with arc s.
Use flashtool to install cwm. That should do the trick.
The guides for the arc and arc s are nearly the same

Have you read these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573266 & http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650

I'm still a noob on rooting and flashing (flashed my first ROM yesterday). And I don't know every term
Also when choosing a ROM, look on youtube for video's how it looks ect. And decide for yourself whether you like it or not.
Im currently running Cyanogenmod 7 (CM7) and it's so much of a improvement to the stock ROM.
Don't forget to flash the corresponding Kernel when flashing a custom ROM

{PRO} [Q&A] All Xperia pro/MK16i/a iyokan Related Questions Here

Hello everyone,
if you can understand me it's very difficult digging out pro questions on the arc questions forum. Also some questions are pro specific so cannot be answered by people who are not pro users(me thinks). So please ask all pro related questions here.
Request to mods -- Please make it a sticky
A Requst to everyone.. Please read the questions below before posting.. If you have questions any other than this then please ask otherwise dont crowd up the thread unnecessarily..
Q] How do I unlock my bootloader..?
A] Check this out.. This is the official way to unlock the bootloader
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Q] How do I root my device..?
A] Well there are many ways to get root access on your device.. You can try installing some custom ROMs or you can root the official firmware too. If you want to root the official firmware there are two ways..
1) For locked bootloaders
Make sure you are on firmware .58 or lower.. Firmware .62 cant be rooted with DoomLords root exploit or OneSuperClick.. Then use the DooMLord's root exploit to root your device..
You can get the .42/.58 firmware here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480
You can get the DooMLord's root exploit here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
2) For unlocked bootloaders
Best way I would suggest to use a custom ROM but if you want to stick to the stock firmware there is a stock based kernel with root access and recovery. Flash it via flashtool.
You can get the kernel here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480
Q] Which kernel or ROM should I use..?
A] This all depends upon you and what type of user you are. You can try flashing different kernels and ROMs and use them for a while(1-2 days) and then decide which ROM suites your use. You can get the list of all the ROMs and kernels on ameer1234567890's thread. If you are too lazy to search it here it is - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480
Q] I'm on a SIM locked device and can't unlock my bootloader the official way but I would like to try all these ROMs available what should I do..?
A] Contact Alejandrissimo or Jinx they do it for a small fee.
Q] I see a custom ROM there for the Neo/V and as the pro and Neo/V have almost the same hardware can I flash it on my Pro..?
A] NO.. NEVER DO IT.. Maybe the pro and the Neo/V seem to be same but the hardware and the drivers on both the divices are different.. Dont try to cross flash any of the ROMS or the kernels you might end up losing your device..
More questions to be added soon..
Regards.
Request to the mods. Please add MK16a also on the topic
It might also be a good idea if the OP for this thread could also maintain an index of all other Q&As on Xperia Pro (like is done on Xperia Pro development master thread).

To enter fastboot you need to get your bootloader unlocked you can get it done by visiting the official bootloader unlock site..
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
After unlocking the bootloader you can get CWM recovery by flashing the kernel posted here depending upon the firmware you use..

No you can't. You need to use the recommended kernel by the op every time. And the stock ROM in case of Sony is not vanilla.

Hi,
where can I find the most newest Baseband and how do I update it?
Is any Baseband "sufficient" for any Rom or are there specifics I need to know about?

Use the baseband recommended by the author of the OP.. i would personally recommend baseband 64.. it gives a better battery life than others.. you can find baseband 64 in the fxp op..

Difference between FXP and CM
I just don't find an answer to that, perhaps i'm not clever enough, but i've seen the question a couple of times but i never found an answer.
[EDIT]
now i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604170
in the last post there is the conclusion
CM9 is firmware, is a source
FXP is a team which assembles firmware for Xperia phones from cm9 sources making it workable on our smartphones.
Click to collapse
this could only be true for CM9 but not for CM7, because when i look at http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=iyokan there are nightly builds for CM7 and here http://uploaded.to/folder/i4fex9 you can see that they are almost equal by size..
and the changelog for FXP says most of the time only "latest cm 7.2 fixes"..and since i've seen many posts where people said they used the CM7 nightly for their Pro and it was the same as FXP i don't get whats the difference between these two.
Since i did not find any CM9 builds it could be that the conclusion is true for CM9...but since there is no repository for the device at freexperias github i don't think they make changes to the source by themself, just compile it so its CM9 compiled by "Team FXP" if i get it right

[Q] How do I relock my bootloader and install stock over my custom rom?

As the thread title suggests, I want to relock my Xperia S and install a stock rom so I can use SUS and PCC again to keep my phone up to date.
I searched around and found different ways to relock the phone and how to return to the stock rom, but it's just not clear to me yet what steps I need to follow or where I can find the roms/kernels to flash. To make it clear, I want to:
1. Remove my custom rom and custom kernel and return to stock rom and kernel.
2. Relock my bootloader.
There's just so many threads with so many different stock kernels/roms and it's making me so confused. If someone could tell me what steps I need to follow and link the threads I should be using, that'd be great!

I tried this once by just flashing the original kernel and then locking the bootloader with flashtool but i had to do a repair installation with SEUS because my phone (LT26i) was constantly rebooting...

I was with CM10 and I reverted it to Stock ~ 1 month ago like this:
1. Relocked the BL following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159 (Many thanks, DooMLoRD!)
2. The phone sopped booting anymore. I believe it was because I was using version that requires unlocked BL and I relocked mine.
3. I flashed a stock .55 ROM
That's all ... after that it was working fine.
PS: be sure that you have a good stock ROM. I downloaded this one from somewhere: LT26i_6.1.A.2.55_SG_Generic_(1257-6921).ftf
Good luck!

The best way to learn something is to read ROM's first posts
First posts of many roms don't give much information actually... You'll probably have to read many ''first posts'' to get a proper understanding. People on here are annoying about telling new people how to get started because they in all likelihood learned by themselves though searching and reading. Flashing a new rom is easy but there is a learning curve and you will need troubleshooting skills, so the more you read and know the better!

We are all learning by making mistakes You think why I know more than e.g. OP of this thread? Because I'm too impatient to wait until somebody will answer my questions! I was doing things by myself, bricking phones, restoring them back and gaining knowlegde! So not more experienced users are "bad" because they won't tell everything, NEW USERS ARE TO LAZY TO SEARCH, MAKING MISTAKES AND LEARN!!!

Don't worry!
Anyone coming to XDA forums for the first time, is "noob" and all the other names...
What IS important - you have "sticky" threads that will explain quite a lot. BUT, you'll have to read and read and read until you'll know what and where to ask... Well, we all learn until we die...
So, yes, read. Search and search and read again! Or, if you're in real trouble, send PM (you know what that is, right?)...
Regarding your question, well, you'll just have to look around and decide what you'll do with your hov :fingers-crossed:
But, to be on "friendly side",

To make it short: every rom needs a kernel that it's likely not stock kernel. In every OP of rom it's written which kernel you have to use...
