Nano SIM in GS3 = No Data - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So I have a ATT GS3, and got an ATT iPhone 5.
Then I bought a Nano SIM Adapter to switch between the tow, but for some reason with the Nano SIM in the GS3 calls text all work but NO Data.
I've read on the ATT Forums people having the same issues.
Any fix for this?
I did notice my Data plan now says iPhone 4G LTE Data, when it used to say Smartphone LTE data, and I was able to switch from an iPhone 4S to the GS3.
Anyone also using a Micro SIM from the GS3 converted to a Nano SIM?
Are you getting LTE on both devices this way??
I could always fall back to the GS3 being the primary phone and Data package if the Smartphone LTE Data worked on the IP5.
Thanks

You may have to switch back to the smartphone data LTE plan to use the GS3.

You have too switch it now. I had to do the same when I went from iPhone 4 to the SGS3

That's because the people at ATT agree that the iPhone 5 isn't really that smart (Feed the troll!)

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I've come to find that you do have to switch the data plans. Kind of like with the blackberry, the iPhone has its own type of data plan for some reason with att. Hope this helps!

before you switch check APN settings.

I looked at the APN settings on the GS3, and they are the same as they were when they worked with the Micro SIM.
It has to do with the iPhone data.
What I want to know is will the SmartPhone LTE Data work on the iPhone 5?

It won't work, like what others have said they both have different data plans. If you want to use your GS3 you have to call AT&T to have the LTE Smartphone data plan activated. If you want to use your iPhone you have to call them again to switch back to the iPhone data plan.

Yep, as the others said you will need to switch to an LTE plan to enable data. I manually changed my APN to get data working when I switched from a temp iPhone to my GS3. I got a text from AT&T telling me I needed to change to a 4G LTE Data plan the next day.

I do the same thing with my GS3 using a micro sim adapter. Since I don't live in a LTE area, i just switch my APN settings from PTA to Phone. I also switch back to iphone for a day just to verify the sim is still working on it. Been doing this for about two weeks, haven't received any text from AT&T, my account still says I'm on the LTE unlimited data plan.. so all is well.

Have iPhone 5. Want to use Nano SIM in Samsung

OK, so I do live in Dallas which has awesome LTE coverage. I just joined ATT and got an iPhone 5. I plan on purchasing a Samsung Note or Galaxy S III. I already purchased the Noosy Nano-Sim adapter and want to be able to use my nano-sim in the Samsung.
So, I've read multiple posts and I'm still not sure what is the solution.
Do I make the Samsung the primary phone and data package? Will the iPhone 5 work now?
I would like to be able to make this change without having to switch my data package from Smartphone LTE to iPhone LTE.
Can anyone help me??

I am on the iPhone LTE Unlimited data plan with ATT, and switch back and forth with various other phones (htc one x+, LG optimus G, and S3) using the same iPhone 5 Nano SIM card with no problems. I'm not sure of the answer if my data package was a smartphone LTE instead of the iphone LTE package.

Thanks for the info shockandawe. I'm a new customer on the mobile share with my primary geing an iphone, so I would think ours would work the same. I'll try it out. Need to find me an LTE phone on craigslist or ebay.

I dealt with that exact thing. I had to call AT&T each time I switched the sim to get the data working properly. Just like others said, if I take my sim and put it in my GS3 all will work except data. AT&T never gave me a hard time about calling and switching plans. But I didn't want to keep going through that.

AT&T LTE data plan interchangeable with iPhone?

I have preordered the lumia 900 and currently using an iPhone 4s. I want to use both iPhone and Lumia 900, but the rep says to use Lumia 900 I need a LTE data plan. This is ok with me but he says I can't switch sims with iPhone whenever I want because the LTE plan doesn't work with iPhone. This is really stupid in my opinion, why can't they just have one stupid data plan which works across devices and I can easily switch SIM's. I do understand having different plans for LTE devices, but it should be backward compatible with HSPA devices. Meaning if I have a LTE data plan, I should be able to take the sim and put it in any device and have the data working (including iPhone). So now whenever I switch sims between iPhone and Lumia 900 I need to manually change my data plan every time to get data working.
I'm just hoping that when I get my lumia I can just put the iPhone sim and get data working on the Lumia 900. I don't care if I don't get LTE since we don't have AT&T LTE coverage in Seattle anyway.
Anyone else in similar situation and what do you think? I keep changing phones between iPhone, Android and WP7, so keeping just one device is not an option
It should work, but you need an LTE plan in order to get LTE on the Lumia. If you put the sim in the iPhone you will only get 3G/faux G speeds. I haven't tried it with the iPhone, but I swap the sum from my LTE Galaxy Note with my GSM Galaxy Nexus and it works fine. I see no reason why it wouldn't work with iPhone too.

Yeah I know it works with other phones but iPhone requires to have an iPhone data plan. Nothing special about this plan but just iPhones have separate data plan. So if you have an iPhone data plan you can just take the sim and put on any device and it works(except LTE phones). But if you have the regular 3G data plan or LTE plan and put that sim in iPhones it doesn't work. AT&T treats iPhone devices differently in terms of data plans.
Att will charge you a prorated charge every time you switch from one to the other. Its annoying.

True that ... Lot of inconvenience. May be the European Lumia 900 should be a better option for me. No LTE and don't have to worry about switching data plans.
Yeah it is stupid how they have a seperate plan for iPhones, should just keep it simple and have one that will work with any phone. Maybe once LTE iPhone comes out, they'll do just that.

They do it with 3g and let phone as well. It sucks and pisses me off because the cost of the plans are the same. If I go from a iPhone data plan that cost $25 to a let plan that costs $25 why in hell do I have to pay prorated which ends up being a double charge? Its stupid
My apology for being a bit off topic to the original post but I've been searching to see if/when LTE will be availabe in Seattle on AT&T. I've check Google but I can't seem to find information to their rollout plan. Perhaps the fact that there doesn't appear to be readily available plan indicates that it may be a while for Seattle. Might anyone have some insight or read something somewhere?
Thanks and again my apology for being off topic. I saw this thread with LTE and Seattle so thought I ask here.

Yes it is not going to happen any time soon .. Earliest will be till end of summer and this is what AT&T rep told.
My guess is AT&T will try to roll out LTE in all major cities before the next iPhone releases. They wouldn't want to be at a disadvantage to Verizon when iPhone 5 launches with LTE.
So if I put my iPhone sim into a Lumia 900 will it work?
I realize that it would be logging into the 3g network and not LTE.
I just want to be able to swap between phones and do not care about data speed.

Yes it will carry over. That was the first thing I asked when I preordered the Lumia 900.
OK, I have a galaxy note, on the LTE plan... I ordered a sim cutter off eBay, should get here today or Thurs. After I get it and cut the sim, I'll try it out on my iPhone 4S and see what happens... will report back, lol.
I really don't think it will be a problem, switching the sim back and forth between phones... I say this because I used to use my iPhone as my main phone, and with a sim adapter, would switch between several different phones (Androids, HP Pre 3, HTC Titan, etc.) and never had any issues with automatic plan changes or billing, etc. Every phone worked fine with voice & data. Now I'm going to attempt the opposite using an LTE sim/plan in a non-LTE phone (iPhone and soon the 900). I assume it won't be an issue, but guess I'll find out, lol.
AT&T people will say that you *have* to be on an iPhone specific plan, but I don't think that's true - I think that's just what they are told by their bosses. As long as you already have a data plan, you *should* be good.
Side note: Had to exchange my galaxy note for screen issues and the AT&T reps will insist that they have to put the old sim in themselves and "activate" it in the system. I like to unbox stuff myself, don't want sales reps fiddling around with my new toys, lol. So last time, I told the rep I was in a hurry and would set it up myself later. Rep said "Are you serious??" and I laughed and said "yeah"! She looked relieved that she didn't have to do it, lol. Sure enough, got home, popped in my sim, and all was good - no need to have it "activated" by a rep if the sim card itself is already active.
Yea you should be able to switch devices. Just stay on the LTE data plan and you can move back to your iPhone at any time.
Sim cutter arrived today. Cut my LTE sim and it's working fine in my iPhone. Still slow hspa speeds of course, but all is good. Think it will be just fine in the 900.

from iPhone 4S unlimited data sim to S3 no 4G LTE

hi guys! i recently purchase a slightly used S3 i747 originally att. i came from an iphone 4S and still have my iphone unlimited data plan. i have noticed that im only getting 3g and h speeds. how do i get the 4g lte speeds? do i need to call att CS to get my plan changed or do i just change my apn setttings? Im rooted and has ktoonz rom. also noticed that i have the correct apn settings. tried to choose 4G LTE but i dont get data when i select it.
Thanks in advance.
not to sound condescending, but
1.) check imei (in the dialer *#06#) to ensure it is valid
2.) looks like you are in Montaray, there is no LTE coverage there per AT&T's map. doesnt look too far away though.
hope this helps
You might not be able to get LTE without a new sim card. I was reading somewhere that the iPhone sims don't work properly with LTE and will only allow HSPA+. I forget where I read this, so I could be wrong.
Sounds like a SIM problem, plus not being in an LTE area. I came from an iPhone 4 and had to change SIM's for the Note but asked to keep the microSIM in case I wanted to go back.
You need to get your plan changed. Call AT&T. You do NOT have to loose your unlimted though. I did the same thing, and got no 4g until I did that ( assuming it's in your area at all ).
I switched from a GS2 (3G) to a GS3 and all I had to do was walk into an AT&T store to tell them my situation. They set me up free of charge with my "unlimited" grandfathered data plan. Note: you can use up to 5gb before getting throttled by At&t with the updated 4g plan!

This guy has it. Be sure to thank him. ATT can differentiate speeds based on your plan, and the iphone has no LTE so they aren't allowed access to the network.
What everyone said is correct. I work for an AT&T so I deal with the same stuff. First off check if you have LTE coverage in your area. Most areas are still red for LTE. Nearest to me is Baton Rouge in Louisiana. I got 60MB/S while on it compaired to an Iphone who got 4 hahahaha .
Second check AT&T and see if your IMEI is set to the s3. If you still have the iphone imei on your account iphone data is only 3g.
Third (optional) replace your sim card. Most sim cards right now are 3g and aren't compatible with the LTE network. Sim cards are like a penny to replace at a corporate AT&T.
Hope this helps and goodluck. I hope you guys get a taste of the LTE network its sickening. Everything loads soo fast.
What was said earlier above also is true. Your unlimited data stays with you. Don't let someone tell you else wise. Once you lose unlimited data you can not get it back. I had a customer accidentally get rid of theirs and it was HELL to get it back for them and countless arguments on customer support.

Good to hear it, OP. And yep, I had the same issue coming from a 4S to the S3 and the advice above is correct. I'm still a grandfathered unlimited user (although I don't have LTE in my area yet). BTW, the best thing about this? What TBayTom noted...that you now get a 5gb cap since you're on a LTE plan (as opposed to 3gb if you're not). :good:

[Q] Galaxy S3 without 4G LTE data plan?

Hey guys so this is what is going on. I'm currently on an AT&T family plan with separate data plans. My sister just upgraded to the GS3 with a new sim card and everything but she doesn't really like it so she's going back to her 4S and offered to sell the phone to me. I'm currently using an iPhone 4S with the 15$/200mb data plan. My question is can I use my current sim card and data plan with the GS3 or do I have to upgrade it the 4G LTE plan and get a new sim card as well?
You should just be able to pop your card in and enjoy the S3 goodness. However, you may want to get att to switch your plan from in iphone plan to the general smart phone plan, because some weird things can happen with your voice mail if you don't. Happened to me when I switched from iphone to android.

Thanks for the quick reply . I was wondering because I was told that AT&T forces you to use a 4G LTE plan for this phone. I'm usually around a wifi connection so I'm looking for the cheapest data plan that is available at the moment
The problem you're probably going to run into is the S3 uses a micro SIM....so you may, at the very least, have to cut your SIM down. Just fyi.
I came from a galaxy S2, and had to get a new SIM.

The 4S already has a micro SIM, though, doesn't it? I had to get the micro SIM since I switched from the captivate, and I still have my $15/200MB plan and get LTE on it when I'm not using Wi-Fi.

Yes the 4S has the micro sim also. I was able to use call features and text with it in the SG3 but no network access except for wifi. Ended up calling AT&T and turns out I'll have to upgrade to the 20$/300mb 4G LTE data plan.
Most likely you need a new SIM that's 4G LTE capable, since I just remembered the 4S isn't. I'm getting 4G LTE on the $15 plan - it's not the plan.

That's interesting. I recently moved from an iPhone 3GS (it was a free hand-me-down, don't give me that look) to a One X which I returned (battery life) and got a SGS3 within 30 days. I still have a $15/200MB data plan and both phones worked fine on 4G LTE data. You may wish to confront them about this, because it sounds like they're gonna get you for $120 on that new plan otherwise.

I should note that I got a new SIM with the One X (and then it migrated to my SGS3) as the 3GS had some fat old huge SIM card. I have no idea if there's 4G LTE incompatible SIMs or not, but I thought I'd add that after seeing MeVirtually's post.

[Q] Galaxy S III with iPhone data

Hey everyone,
I have searched through the threads and the few that I have found are a few years old, so I figured I'd ask...
I currently have an AT&T iPhone 5 with the iPhone LTE unlimited data as my main phone. I also have an Samsung Galaxy S III for AT&T. I was wondering if there is any way I can keep the iPhone data plan but still use data on my Galaxy seeing as I switch back and forth now and then. I know the opposite is available, however, using the iPhone with a normal smartphone data plan doesn't allow me to FaceTime via cellular, but lets me connect to the internet. Just was wondering if there was anyway to keep the iPhone data plan but also access the internet on my Galaxy.
Thanks everyone.

Lol, easier said than done. Almost everyone I know, including my wife has iPhone. I should just wait for iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak and download the app that tricks the iPhone into thinking it's on Wi-fi. I guess that would be the best bet.

That's what I was thinking, something with the APN, but I have had no luck with that yet.
After you use a nano sim a adapter you create a new apn to att's iPhone provisioning. After you do that it will work fine.

nexus 7 as phone

Hello,
I tried searching but for whatever reason I came up with absolutely nothing, nothing! Guess some things screwy with search or my account.
So I've used sprint for years now basically because its the only provider with towers in my area. I'm currently using a nexus 5 and recently started using a at&t gophone Sim in it when I go out of the county. I then bought a Nexus 4 to put the Sim card in but now I'm missing LTE which seems to be way faster that sprints and much more readily available. Heck hpsa+ is much faster than sprints LTE here when I go far enough to get sprint LTE.
Is it possible to but a LTE version of the nexus 7 and then root it with a ROM with a dialer and then pop my gophone sim in and use it through Bluetooth?
I don't think it supports cellular calls at all; AT&T also might flag it as a tablet.
You could try voip out with, if you have good T-Mobile reception, one of their tablet plans. They do allow SMS on them. You might be able to use Vonage with that number. I've paired them up just fine on a Samsung T869. You won't have any incoming calls or voicemail (maybe through Vonage?) but voip worked great for me on T-Mobile LTE.
Also, if you know anyone with postpaid T-Mobile you can get a data plan really cheap on their account. Verizon postpaid plans don't look too bad either but you'd have to go all voip.
Thanks for your response. I unfortunately don't have T-Mobile coverage for probably 50 miles or more. I have a Magicsim dual Sim tray on the way for my nexus 5. If that doesn't work I'll be buying another nexus 5 then for my att Sim. Thanks!
