Depends on whether you have a GSM or CDMA when it comes to S-OFF but it's easily rooted

Thanks Flash. My buddy wiped everything, except the sd card and didnt do a nandroid first,so now,im trying to fix this and root it.I have recovery and hboot access only,no operating system to be able to boot into,i downloaded a RUU.exe file and extracted the rom.zip, but theres 2,1 says "rom01.zip" and the other says "rom02.zip",i renamed the rom01 to PG76IMG.zip and tried to update through hboot and it didnt even see it on the root of my sd card,so do i need to try the rom02.zip to get a working OS,im stuck like chuck and really need some guidance, thanks.
Rename it as PG76IMG.... instead of PG76IMG.zip....

if you haven't used Data2sd by partitioning the sd card, then you can just re-flash the rom and it should work fine.
put the rom in your sd card and re-flash it.

Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.

Not sure what you need help with??? Does it have a custom recovery such as clockworkmod or amonra? If so you can flash any Rom to it in recovery or load up an ruu in bootloader if you want it stock. Your choice

Assuming ur s-off then download the rom u want, make sure u have the correct hboot for it and sdcard is partitioned to suit the rom then boot into recovery do a full wipe then install zip from sdcard. I had to do it this way many times coz my laptop only connects to my phone when it can be bothered lol

What does wipe mean? "Clear memory" part, in recovery?

Is it there? Lol u tell me. U can partition ur sdcard with 4ext recovery (if ur s-off) or use gparted. Most roms will require u to have exr3/4 partition bout 1-1.5gb.

No.
Oh well,I guess that means sticking to roms that use the one I'm currently using
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
Why? Changing hboot is easy, and if you have a brain, you won't brick your phone.
Because I don't always have access to a computer, I know when I have changing it is a matter of a few seconds.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
I always change hboot without computer.. Use the PB99IMG.zip method.. Don't forget to wipe all partitions except sd before and after..

Hboots are .Img files, meant to be flashed through adb. There are also .Zip files named PB99IMG.ZIP that contain that img file and that file has to be on sdcard.. (not in folder, just root of sdcard) and when you boot into bootloader it will say it has found an update and ask if you want to flash it.. (afterwards rename the file so it won't ask again next time..)
Also in recovery wipe before and after this process all partitions except sd..
