You can restore apps without any problem (except system apps), You can try restoring apps downloaded from Google play with data and if you get FCs then delete data and it will be fine. I always restore few apps along with data like opera mobile etc and haven't seen any problem so far.

Backuping before Super Wipe

Heya.
I want to backup my contacts, my SMSs and App Data before doing a super wipe and flashing a new rom. I'd also like to backup my phone settings and apps too, but that probably kinda removes some of the beneficial effects of the wipe.
I've used Titanium Backup to do these things before, but I've been getting more and more FCs that no one else using the rom have reported so I'm thinking my wiping hasn't been fully effective.
What are the best ways to backup these things? I want the backup methods to be easy to do and restore but should leave othing bad behind so I wouldn't get extra FCs.
Best for contacts: Google (?)
Best for SMS: ?
Best for App Data: ?
Thanks alot!

Before flashing a new rom be sure to do backups if you don't want to have problems. But also be aware that some programs may perform different on different ROMs because of kernel, sense ans no-sense roms etc. Some programs I backedup on some roms worked like charm and on some roms they FC, but after uninstall and instal from .apk program works again.
For program and DATA I use Titanium. You can restore only APP, Only DATA or both APP+DATA (which can restore high scores in games or program settings you set).
Titanium backup can also restore screens and system datas like Wi-Fi settings, accounts, SMS messages...... With that system data I found most problems because roms have a different versions of stock programs, and restoring data for facebook old version while backup is made on new version can be a problem. Happened to me. It is best if you restore system data to exact same rom or an updated version of last used rom (my experience).
Contacts you don't have to backup, at least i don't, because they will be pulled back to your phone when you set your google account.
I take screenshots of homescreen and app drawer, just in case that I don't forget something to install.
Full wipe you have to do when you completely moving from one rom to another. If you just upgrading you don't have to full wipe (only if it is necessary, but it will be written on home page of a rom developer). Every rom come with detailed instruction how to install. Some of them have application (.zip) to full wipe and format system. It there is such application you have to use it, if you want FC free DHD.
Hope it helps,
Thanks, looks good. Is it okay to move settings from older rom with older kernel and other things to a newer rom or can these cause force closes? How about app data, I'd like to keep my progress on few games for example, does backuping app data and moving them to a wiped fresh rom cause force closes?
Thanks!
EDIT: Didn't see the last post before this reply, it clears up stuff, thanks!

Restore MyBackup Pro backups

Hi.
I come from an HTC Desire and I have some backups that I made with MyBackup Pro of some app's data. Relevant data like some games progresses, Libra's database, etc. MyBackupPro has an online backup and I backed the data online on the HTC Desire and tried to restore it in the Galaxy Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus recognizes the backup, shows the apps that are backed up, but when I press Restore it says that I should reboot the device and that the restore was OK almost instantaneously. Nothing is restored, no data is transferred to the phone..
Is there any other way to migrate this kind of data? Shouldn't MyBackup Pro be working on the Galaxy Nexus?
Thanks in advance
Anyone?
Maybe the app needs an update for ICS? Try to check their site to see if there's a reported problem, that's most likely the case.
Should have gone with Titanium Backup. I never had much luck with MyBackup anyway. Titanium is rock star on ICS.
The only problem Ive had so far has been restoring SMS with Pro.
Even with busy box installed its suuuper slow at the moment.
I sent them an email, I'll wait for an answer.. But I guess it is due to incompatibilities with ICS too..
AmesCell, I have always used MyBackup while using the Desire, never had a problem. Anyway, I still have the Desire and can use Titanium, but my Galaxy Nexus isn't rooted, and Titanium needs root.

Your signature says your Desire is rooted. Rooting the GN is easy. I go through 4 phones a year. I couldn't imagine doing that without Titanium.
Yes, the Desire is rooted, but I wasn't planning on rooting the GN so soon. I just got it 2 days ago and I want to see how this goes without any "hacks"..
I wouldn't have rooted the Desire in the first place if it wasn't for the lack of updates, etc... That's the main reason I bought the GN, having a more official support. Let's see, I'm almost sure that I'll root it in the future, but I don't want to do it right now.. I'll just wait for the Rerware answer to my email and see how it goes.
Thanks
Any update?
Rerware already answered, but no updates. Although I think I know what the problem is. I am only backup up app's Data, because they are already installed in the GN. But this is a "root only" feature and, for what I understood, non-rooted devices cannot restore this kind of backup, only APK backups. I asked this to the guys at Rerware to see if there is a workaround.
When I have news I'll post them here.

restoring your data/sms/backups is a "hack"
Hi,
Did you manage to find a solution to this problem? My phone is rooted and it still doesnt restore anything. Just like you said it finds the backup but then when you select the arrow next to apps to tick which ones you want to restore nothing is shown..
I need this to restore my game saves, spotify offline music etc
This happened to me with my sensation before. Somehow the backup got corrupted to I deleted it and started from scratch. Sorry to hear this happened to you it seriously sucks losing akk that stuff. What I've been doing is using from manager to restore my data partition and I've never had any issues SO FAR.
Enable advanced options, click restore and restore backup and only select the data.

I managed to solve the problem......
First my story:
I decided to install new ROM on my phone....i backed up apps and data with My Backup Pro (i bought the app)
My phone is rooted of course.
So i installed the new ROM and then i installed the My Backup Pro and started to restoring apps but i didn't get the app/data/app+data popup
and of course i couldn't restore my data from apps. i got really frustrated and browsed the web and couldn't find anything.
I started everything from the begining uninstalled all apps and figured it out that i did something wrong....and that is this that My Backup Pro doesn't work as it should without busy box...u have to install Busy Box before installing the My Backup Pro!
Follow this tutorial in order to restore your apps + data
Backing up apps on android (rooted) after installing new ROM
With My backup pro application
1. Backup apps + data
2. Backup dictionary
3. Backup all other data you want to
Install new ROM and then start restoring by this order
1. first install busy boxes i found there are two (BusyBox and BusyBox installer on the google store. install both)
2. install My backup pro and when asked to install additional options for rooted phone choose yes (now you should be able to choose between app/data/app+data to restore)
3. restore apps + data
4. thats it...enjoy!
It worked for me!! :good:

Load Rom THEN phone settings?? HELP!?

Gentlemen,
I've rooted my GS3 - works flawlessly. Id like to start experimenting with various ROMS. My questions is
once I've done an android backup with CWM, and the new ROM is loaded, how do I reinstall all of my apps,
and settings (mail, etc)?? I have Titanium backup installed and have backed up each of the important apps one
by one.......
Easier way? That could take hours to recreate.
THanks

Generally restoring phone settings between different ROMs isn't a great idea and can lead to various problems.
You can have you apps reinstalled automatically when you login to Google on first boot.
It reinstals apps on installing google mail??????? HOW?
Now I'm really peaked about loading a new rom..........

Usually when you boot Android for the first time, you're asked to put in your Google credentials - these are used for Gmail, but also to log you in to the Play Store. Then there is usually an option to restore the phone, and it will proceed to download all of your apps.
If you buy the pro key for titanium backup it automates the backup and restore process. And it is fine to restore apps and data (not system data) from one ROM to another. I even restored apps and data from my Atrix to my S3.

android revolution hd 10.3 - push not supported HTC One X

hi guys newbie here,
I know this should probably be posted in the rom thread but due to lack of posts I cant ask the question there, I have installed ARHD 10.2 and now updated to 10.3 and on both versions of the rom get the notice ( on facebook / friendcaster ) - unable to enable notifications as your phone does not support push messages, everything else seems to be fine, just wondered if anyone has come across this or if there is something I have done wrong.
Again sorry if this is posted in the wrong place

google account seems installed and set up ( play is working fine and logged in with my google account on phone set up) anything else I should check? sorry like i said kinda new to this
I restored all apps and data with titanium
thanks for your response
I've seen this pop up a couple of times on the forum, but don't recall of there was a fix.
I would take a backup (if you have titanium, I'm assuming you're rooted, so both nandroid and titanium backup) and then factory reset, put your Google account back and try the apps again.
Once you've confirmed it works, use titanium to restore user apps and data, NOT system apps or data.
Hey,
maybe you should reflash 10.3.. and before that wipe data and wipe cache.. worked for me.
My push notifications work.

[Q] Back Up/Restore for Note II Stock ROM to CM10.1.3 ROM

Got another mind bongler with my first time flashing. I'm using titanium backup and since I'm gonna flash from stock note 2 with touchwiz to CM with vanilla android, am I supposed to backup all user apps + system data? I've read that if you restore touchwiz apps and Samsung closed network apks onto a phone without touch wiz or the stock rom it might mess your phone up or put it in a loop. So... 1)do I back up everything and then when I restore do I only select my user apps(apps ive downloaded) and system data(sms, contacts, etc)? Or do I restore everything on to my phone after I wiped and flashed? 2) are the red labeled apps the apps I'm supposed to not restore? Do I restore the white, green and yellow labled apps only? This is all on titanium backup premium edition! Thank you for the help!
NEVER RESTORE SYSTEM APPS. It will mess up your phone especially if it replaces important things like settings.apk or systemui. Just do your user apps and you should be fine but a lot of people nowadays say its just better to redownload everyting off the play store
Does Cyanogenmod come with no apps? Except for the basic system apps like phone dialer contacts camera etc. And your sure just user apps will be okay? What about my system data? Like messages emails, and call logs?

Ya it only has basic system apps then whatever they are bundling nowadays (focal, cm file manager ect) you need to flash a gaaps package to get the play store, youtube, gmail ect. User apps should be fine. Call logs and messages need to be backed up with a third party app. I think you can back up messages to a .xml in tibu. Email should auto back up and redownload when you sign in
Call logs and messages can be backed up with titanium, and restored. I do it all the time.

You can backup and restore your non-system apps, the ones downloaded from the Play Store for example, but you shouldn't restore the app data until you know what you are doing (some will work, some won't) - apk's only.
You definitely don't want to backup and restore system apps as mentioned above.
You can backup and restore text messages, phone log and such, but not settings etc.
Don't bother with calendar entries and contacts, they should be backed up and restored by Google
