To get touch recovery:
Download cwm recovery touch there
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Place it at the root of your sdcard and rename it recovery.IMG( Have the recovery image on the internal memory...name as "recovery.img")
Download terminal emulator from the play store then run it.
Once in the terminal type: su (press enter)
Then type: dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 (press enter)

It will fix the error 7 and plus you will have the touch recovery. That is what I did on my phone and it works easily and a few other people tried it with no problem! Be sure you type everything right!

Flash via odin

Reason why I ask is because, for any internet access to the internet on my computer I will be using hotspot on the phone I'm rooting.

P.s. I have the T-Mobile version if it matters.

This is what I did... go to the guide in general and look for how to root
Then download odin and recovery (whichever u prefer) then download In Developement Darkside data wipe and download any rom you want that has root.
1. Open odin
2. Put ur phone in DL mode (power+vol up and down+plug in usb)
Then place the recovery in the PDA slot
3. Then start
Then in CWM go flash the Darkside datawipe (it'll take a lil while)
Then flash your desired rom then reboot

If not... then it'll give you an option in the guid if you want to flash superuser via CWM hope this helps!

This will work with stock ics? Do I need a Rom? Can I do this method without?

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...d-ultimate-root-optimization-guide-steps.html
Go here, download all of the files to your phone, transfer the drivers, odin, and the recovery.tar to your computer, then follow the steps outlined and root. It's what I did because we are on dial up Internet, but I i have data on my phone, so I just downloaded and transfered the files. Write down the directions on paper too, so you don't have to worry about missing a step.
Goodluck!

It looks like the only two su does are for GB, I have official ics for T-Mobile, with those work?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Yes they'll work

It's not installing the su file, keeps saying installation aborted. Restarted the phone and it said I had an update for superuser, updated it but all my root apps still won't work.

You've done the fix permissions right? And sometimes you need to attempt repeatedly. The last thing is, try using this version

It worked when I used this one
If not, I dunno

Hello all.
I have been looking for a way to backup the recovery from the phone.
I have not yet rooted it but want to and then with still being rooted put back the stock recovery like I did on my s3 with a dd command.
Does anyone know where I can find that recovery and what partition the recovery is saved on?
thanks
I would like to know too before buying one myself.

Just use dd to extract it.

Wrong guess. That erased stock recovery and now I have no recovery. Anyone know for sure?

You can also follow the links in the twrp thread under android development. Can push through odin, flash a zip, push with adb (i think), or use goomanager

Use Philz touch
Code:
http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/hltetmo
Download the tar.md5 put the phone in download mode when phone off press & hold Home+Volume Down+Power, once in download follow on screen instruction to begin download mode, then plug the phone in.
Open odin, and select PDA, then select the philz file you downloaded and click start
Guys, so I downloaded this ROM
I converted my phone to F2FS before installing the rom!
But whenever I reboot my phone, the Galaxy Grand Screen comes, flashes once and directly takes me to recovery rather than starting!
It takes me again and again to the Recovery when ever I reboot! I am unable to use my phone, I had to switch to CW 11.0 again to use my phone!
Please help..........
Maybe it's because of not using these commands
adb shell
mkfs.f2fs -l data /dev/block/mmcblk0p21
But where do I write these! I have Windows 7
Downloadminimal adb and flashtool... Write there when u r on recovery mode after connect ur mobile to pc
