rooting then unrooting - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So i got my phone today and i was talking to this well known worker at sprint and i asked him if i were to root my phone and then unroot it will my warranty be voided or it wouldn't? he told me something and i forgot it but i dont remeber so does it or not?

No it does not. Sprint cannot deny you warranty if u rooted your phone. Its always better though to unroot before u take it in though

Tmobile manufacture warranty?

I just got my galaxy s2 a month ago and was wondering, if I get a hardware defect or brick, will Tmobile replace It as long as its the first year on contract? That is what happened about 4 years ago with my other phone but I would like to know if Tmobile will still do this.
Thanks

Rooting voids your warranty. If they can *see* its been rooted, you will be charged a restocking fee of $400+

It's best you go through Samsung, from eat I've heard, as they not really check if you're phones been rooted

Well...i got mine about a couple months. They told me they could replace the phone only if phone has not been software or hardware modified..as i understand...only if they see phone is like when they gave it to u @ very first time. There is a way to restore ur phone and unroot it. So make sure u dowload the .tar file and keep it in PC in case u need to flash stock rom...via Odin before send phone to replace it....or any other similar situation. Follow the link at the bottom.
If u pay insurance Samsung will replace ur phone even if its stolen or lost. In that case u have to pay $150 in order to get a new one. Sorry about my english. ...just trying to help. Good luck.

I've heard of T-Mobile replacing the phone at the cost of the $130 for Tier 3 Smart Phones, but Samsung replacing them? I haven't heard of that.
Hmm...I voided my options the day I got mine, Lol.

I bought the insurance.
Thing is,everything in writing,it seems nothing is covered.
I spoke with tmo,and the insurance, and they both said "no matter what happens (excluding rooting/roms) "
Is covered. But in writing, nothing they said seems to be covered.
From my understanding tmo will replace the phone if its less than a year. But tmo is in financial hardship so who knows what they will do.
Im still waiting on a $30 credit for stuff I never purchased.
Forgive my English...
But,Im just illiterate.
Just go back to stock.its easy.

Samsung warranties their devices for 1 year, it has nothing to do with tmobile. Return your device to stock and get a new one if there is a problem. If it's hard bricked tmobile cant tell what you've done to it, anyways. They send it to sammy and they jtag it and it goes back into circulation as a refurb.

But note, the flash counter is only changed when you flash roms through Odin. Any roms flashed through Clockwork Recovery will not add to the counter. Just adding on to what you said.

This is somewhat true. Some custom kernels such as cm kernel can add to the counter even if flashed through CWM.

Check your counter, sometimes it trips and sometimes it doesn't. Very simple to check yourself, as no one can tell you what's on your phone

if i root the s3

i have a tmobile galaxy s3 if i root it will i lose the insurance that i have on my phone ?? i know is a stupid question i just want to be 100 percent sure
Yes

Depends on the insurance. Need more info. Also a diff between rooting and being caught rooting. If it is working enough for them to tell you rooted on a claim it is working enough to reverse before you send it in. Some insurance don't care either way.

I believe you can always unroot it/use triangle away and it will seem as if you did nothing to it. Just don't be stupid and hard brick it

If you shatter your phone and they replace it I don't think they will have a problem replacing it if its rooted.
Besides, if your really paranoid just tell them you dropped it in a lake, (It happened to me once).
um I have asurion as insurance i dont know if by more info this is what you meant.

Warranty yes, insurance no. Rooting voids your warranty, not your insurance. Insurance covers physical damage, so if you hard brick your phone, just to be safe you "accidentally" dropped it in the bathtub.

I think you'd win in small claims if Samsung denied you warranty because you rooted your device, assuming there is a product defect.
To be honest there's also a choice DONT ROOT. It seems like it's all new to you, and believe me Samsung phones are way easier to brick than LG or HTC if you don't read carefully. Look if it's worth the risk playing a android game with a ps3 controller or loosing your phone for a period of time. If you go ahead and do it make sure you BACK UP YOUR EMEI, many times that gets overlooked when it's really the most important thing in your phone.

Just read, read, read. Then read some more. Make sure you fully understand every possible thing that can go wrong (I.e. Losing imei) and how to fix it. If you know what can happen, and how it happens, you will know how to avoid those things. Never have the "I will cross that bridge when I get there" attitude. Almost everything that can go wrong is 100% preventable/curable if you know about it ahead of time. If you don't feel like you can explain to someone else how to root or fix their phone, you're not ready yet.

No problem haven't rooted mine and I rooted every other phone I have. I just feel android is android it all looks the same. Not much difference between roms apart from the speed with build props and bloatware free. While you can always prepared yourself 100 percent there's always that random encounter that you can get with electronics that is not your fault and just happens.

Im going to return it back to stock for sure. What ive been thinking was just taking it to the tmobile store directly, and from there maybe they can make the replace order. Thats what my sister did last time with her htc one s. Im going to try that first and if dont work im just gonna call Samsung.

Only reason they knew is due to not using triangle away.
Has nothing to do with visiting the xda forums. It would be bad businesses if they did that and unacceptable.
Many people here are not rooted who visit these forums.

Yes, it's not illegal. But it does void your claim on the warranty, and if the rep was having a bad day, he could have easily turned you away for rooting.
What I have found is that although it is not " illegal " . It does not necessarily mean that you will not get a hard time about it. I have had very different experiences even in the same store. Both negative, and positive. So I've learned it's better to remove as many reasons for people to give you a hard time as possible.

Well I don't think being rooted would have any affect on a cracked screen. However I would restore and unroot to be safe. Never know if some pissed of employee wants to take is anger out on you and flag something on your account. Or put notes that could hurt future insurance issues.

look, its best to stay on the safe side... make a nandroid backup and unroot your phone... its your best bet... it is easily the safest way to go

I just wanna set the record straight! (warrenty u.s.)

Ok i know if my Knox counter changes to anything higher than 0x0 it gets voided right... Ok cool but voided/rejected by who? Samsung? Or tmobile's warrenty exchange? Because from what i read everyones talking this repair this n that "i sent out for repair.." Ok but im not sending anything for repair its a WARRENTY EXCHANGE due to usb port problems... Does it get voided by tmobile? Please and thank you
Btw: i search all throught the forums and threads of knox for this and havent found anyone talking about the "WARRANTY EXCHANGE" like i said before ive read about ppl getting their device sent to repair rejected... But what about when they send u the front piece (no battery no back plated **refurbished**) and u send it back in a white box... Thats what i dont see anyone talking about...
Once again thanks in advance i just wanted to get that straightened out...

We are not positive if KNOX is used for warranty purposes. Warranty exchange can be done in person at a Tmobile store or having it shipped out. It is best to go to a store and try and get it replaced. A lot of the clerks are clueless about warranty and you shouldn't have any problems with an exchange.

I never do the exchange thru a T-mobile store. I haven't exchanged any with the knox counter triggered, But I can tell you this much, a T-mobile rep is more concerned about water damage than anything else. that's why the 1st thing they do is to take ur battery out and check little white sticker it turns red/pinkish when exposed to water.
other than that u shouldn't have a problem, just odin back full stock and and take it back .. I would try it but I just replaced my old S4 a couple days ago and its working fine.
just go in there like a boss and demand an exchange... LOL JK
