[Guide] Epic 4g touch metropcs mms fix - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

This to fix mms messaging on metropcs flashed epic 4g touch your most already be flashed to metropcs with working internet and most have custom recovery simple boot into recovery and flash the zip and reboot. mms should work from first boot after flashing zip it will also still work after wiping data if you ever need to, if you flash a new rom you will have to redo the fix. Also wana add mms doesnt work with wifi on on gingerbread. If your on el29 this should disable system updates if after booting you get the system update notification click on click reboot and install it will fail hold the power button until it reboots it will boott into recovery wipe cache and reboot it shouldnt come back, the ics fix I have tested on ff18 and fi03 but should work for others enjoy
Edit: I was ask to add some detsils as to wat the zips doing and wat I do. I edit the mms-config.xml in the stock Mms.apk/SecMms.apk to settings from verizon which work for metropcs, I also use an apns-conf.xml that I edited for metropcs. the zip will mount data and mount system, it will delete Mms.apk/SecMms.apk and Mms.odex/SecMms.odex, it will delete dalvik-cache for Mms.apk/SecMms.apk, it will delete the telephony.db file in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/ which countains apns. it will replace Mms.apk/SecMms.apk with the one I edited for metropcs it also replaces the apns-conf.xml in /system/etc/ which countains the default apns for the one I edited for metropcs (on first boot the phone will create a new telephony.db with the default apns countained in this apns-conf.xml, that is why this fix lasts thru a datawipe/factory reset). The zip will also delete devicemanager.apk/sprintdevicemanager.apk/sprintdm.apk to remove the activation prompt every boot. For more details take a look at the updater-script. The will also edit the build.prop, changing ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=310120 to ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=310027 this is done using uncorupted's build.prop editor script.
EDIT: As skeletor916 has pointed out the ics fix seems to have an issue with txt not coming thru if u have this problem install a third party message app such as go sms and it should fix the issue sorry i will try to fix this
Thanks to uncorupted for the build.prop editor script

Didnt work on el29. Nor does the system update thing work either.

Amazing! Im on "TEAM REJECTZ REJECTED CRACK STOCKv1.3b [fI03]" Rom on Metro PCS. Ive been looking for a MMS Fix for weeks! Your ICS fix zip worked perfect! I can now send and receive MMS. Seems to work on 3G or Wifi! It was so simple, all I had to do was flash it in recovery. Many Many Thanks.

Thanks!
I'm on The Blu Kuban ICS rom with MetroPCS and was fiddling with all of the fixes/settings I saw previously and none of them really worked. And when I did get it to work, I would always forget exactly what I did and in what order, the APN settings, etc etc etc. Interestingly, when I flashed your ICS fix I could send/receive MMS/picture messages but regular texts weren't working. Installed GO SMS because I was going to use it anyways, and both texts and picture messages started coming through. Kind of odd.
Either way, I'm going to try it on a new/different rom (NEED that volume rocker to change tracks ability) and I'll let you know.... Thanks.

Been on ICS for months spoiled myself and went jellybean got it running good now think you can make one to work for cm10? That would be very cool or maybe would ICS fix work? I've been following you for a long time you kinda disappeared for a bit glad to see you fixing us metro people up again huge thanks since you've been the only one I've seen here that wants to do anything for metro.

Worked like a charm, running Calkulin's 3.0 Gingerbread -- I love this script you just simplified easily one of the most pain in the arse tasks for this process. This should be the first place people get directed to for the Metro MMS fix for this phone. Anyone I direct for an MMS fix will be coming straight here, Awesome work, you're amazing.
Flashed EL29 and flashed this script, worked right off the bat, haven't tested on wifi yet, (but its usually expected it doesnt work with wifi on).

MMS Fix for Boost & Virgin Mobile on CM9 and AOKP

Attached to the bottom of this page is an CWM updater.zip for CM9 and AOKP, flash this after every CM9 update you install. If you do a wipe and restore your data flash this fix AFTER you restore your data as the fix deletes the telephony.db file from the data partition, which stores the APN values. This causes your phone to read the apns-conf.xml and write the correct Virgin Mobile values to the telephony.db on the next boot up.

Yes you could say that except I have been making mms fixes for virgin mobile for much longer than that. I was the one who figured out how to get mms working on cm7/cm9 phones flashed to virgin mobile. The boost script is much more simple, it just gives you the correct apn settings.

Oh most certainly, I just meant if I want to get Virgin Mobile MMS working on a different rom like [Re-Calked ICS] then it would just take following the DYI guide, or is it very complicated to modify the script to work?

Is there a fix anywhere for Pageplus (Verizon Wireless) I want to try something like this for AOSP Jelly Bean ROM for Epic 4G Touch.
Thanks!

(ROM) Unofficial MIUIv2.4.20 port/kang [GB 2.3.7]

I was just wandering over http://miuiandroid.com for themes/mods for my MIUI that I came to know about the last GB Rom for Incredible S which was surprisingly 2.4.20!!!
So, thought of porting it to my Incredible 2, but had no idea of porting & everything else... as i was not a dev!!!!
Finally, I got it ported & flashed it on mine Incredible...& everything seems to be working fine..!!!
Hence, thought of sharing it for those who are still using MIUI-GB.....!!!
For those who are using ICS, plz dont get offensive..!! I just wanted to share what I am using...
Features:
Have used latest CM7.2 as base.
Android v2.3.7
Inbuilt FM Radio is working!!!
Bugs:
On long pressing the power button, notification drawer drops down!!
So,in case you want to reboot or power off...lock the screen & long press power button to reboot or for power off! I have no idea how it works & hence no idea about how to fix it!
I would certainly appreciate help from our devs to fix this!!
If you find any other bugs, kindly post it in the thread..someone should certainly be able to fix it.. lol
Points to remember:
I have made two versions of this rom, one for GSM users & other for CDMA users!!!! :highfive:
So, flash GSM version if u r GSM user like me...& for CDMA users kindly flash the CDMA version! (I cant confirm whether CDMA is working bcoz I have no way to test it...better you have backup!)

Always do a nandroid backup before flashing anything!
Wipe system, cache & dalvik before flashing!
Flash the rom..& enjoy!:fingers-crossed:

Well...i have a workaround! Hope that fixes it...
First flash MIUIv1.12.30 from miui.us...once it boots up...u r surely going to have your CDMA network...then reboot in recovery..wipe cache and dalvik (NO SYSTEM WIPE) & just flash this CDMA version over it! I hope that CDMA will work then!!! :fingers-crossed:
So the only real issue is non working CDMA. And that wont take long to fix if a dev would jump in.
Mabey we could extract the CDMA, files from official MIUI, and then out them were need be?

I have had it on my phone for 4 days and it works great. However, there are times when I hit the power button to turn it off and it will not wake up and I have to pull the battery out and reboot my phone. I have had it randomly reboot once, but other than that, it works great and is super fast. I'm impressed.
No need to pull the battery all you need to do is hold down the power button and it should reset

I have been flashing the dailies. Today's worked well. I did have random reboots on 8/20 nightly. Officially they will say it is experimental , but I am also using it as daily driver. Its pretty good. Its definitely the best custom rom out for the SGS3. The one thing that does suck it there is no S-BEAM in CM but its pretty clean otherwise.

I found the below on the Sprint forums. figured i would let ya'll know, if ya didn't already
While that would probably work it won't fix the issue, it just hides it from you.
There are a couple of things that can cause this. Any sort of third party messaging app can cause weird issues like this or if something becomes corrupted for some reason. The messages are normally intercepted by the voicemail app before they get to the messaging app, but if something is not working correctly the voicemail app can miss the message, so it will instead appear in messaging.
1. Open the Sprint Voicemail application
2. Press Menu and choose Compose
3. Record a message that is ~2-3 seconds long, it can be longer but doesn't need to be.
4. Send it to [email protected]
5. Within ~15 minutes your phone will re-register with the Visual Voicemail server and the messages should stop appearing.
That should fix the issue most of the time. This method is similar across all Android visual voicemail phones, and even the Samsung Instinct devices. Blackberries and iPhones have a completely different method.

I too would like to thank you as well. I downloaded it last night and what a
difference it has made all day! Stinks that MIUI has voice mail and not CM.
To answer your question @djayallday I believe that it's a trial for the visual voice to text part.
Voicemail itself should still work without a problem even after the trial period has ended.
Hope that helps

Anytime I try to flash any from besides the stock 4.1.2 my mms no longer works.. I'm using a ics modem as directed. And it still doesn't work anyone know why or know a way to fix this I can't stand stock 4.1.2 "I'm having a relapse from flashing" lol thanks In advance

I am on stock TW but I try to go to aosp such as cm10.1 or bean stalk and my mms no longer works. My texting, calling, and data work though

Check your APN's. Mine got messed up when I flashed an AOSP ROM that had been ported over to sprint. Never really worked right.
So start there maybe that'll be the quickest and easiest fix???
Hope that helps

Voice command..and say open APN's and see if they're right
I will try this also is there any TW4.2.2 from you would recommend. Not trying to start world war 3 nor doubting or asking for favorites more or less opinion.
Edit:
Tried the "open apn" and it just takes me to my call log..
Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using xda premium
I had to be in the aosp ROM to work the apns.
And I've found diff people like diff things
I flashed bean stalk from and there was no "voice command" app also if j can direct me to a stock 4.2.2 with no themed apps, and light weight. I have searched but no luck
Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using xda premium
Don't think we have a "stock" 4.2 2.
Lightest AOSP I've seen is Slim Bean I think

There are no 4.2.2 ports for TW that I'm aware of. And WFTN has voice dialer. Most CM and AOSP roms that I've ran have it.

Okay. I have tried the cm10.1 wild for the night build. Wiped everything besides sdcard. Flashed ics modem FJ12 flashed 4.2.2 gapps. And still no mms, I can send text, call, and use data.. I also went back to stock updated my profile and prl then flashed wild for the night again and still no luck..

WFTN CM10.1 (and I think most AOSP ROM's) work only with ICS (and below) Modems, such as FL24 or older. I don't remember seeing FJ12 modem. Check the rwilco12's Modems thread in Development section. To get your MMS working with another carrier on AOSP, the easiest way I found is getting an alternate SMS app (Textra and GoSMS are the two I've tried) and changing the MMSC within the apps settings to the one provided by your carrier and rebooting the phone afterwards.
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I ended up flashing beanstalk ROM and then editing my apn-confg.XML file to only VM then rebooted and BAM working MMS

4.4.4 MIUI AOSP based (coming very soon)

Figured i would start a thread so we can share what we know so far. It is getting close and there were a few beta builds but nothing public. Looks like it will make a huge leap currently it is 4.2.2 for v5 but v6 looks to be 4.4!

I am sure the note 2 will get an official release but I doubt it will be our version. We will most likely only get ports for our device. The international versions usually get all the miui goodness.

Well it has been a while since I have been here but figured I would give everyone a little preview. Also I need 5 testers who have sprint service and 4G LTE that can test for me since I am on cricket service. What I have is an AOSP based 4.4.2 MIUI!! Please send me a PM if you want to test. First five who reply will be able to test. I also have one extra spot for someone who has followed my MIUI work and I will shoot you a PM about this.
If you don't get enough testers PM me. I don't have 4g at home and won't be back to work until Tuesday to test those functions but I would be happy to help if needed.

I will hook you up with the next test version. The current one lacks a working dialer but I pushed the aosp dialer and it works so I will use it for now.
Cool. I just tested to make sure I have good backups so I am ready.

Okay here is a new tester. I have included the aosp dialer (miui dialer does not want to work) along with a few other aosp apps. Also miui superuser does not work so you will have to flash supersu if you want root.
Known issues
miui dialer
miui themes
camcorder (settings need to be changed video encoder needs to be mpeg4) change settings before turning on recorder
everything else I have tested works gps, mms, calls, data (on cricket network not sure about sprint users still waiting on feedback)
Extras I have included
AOSP stuff
dialer
music
gallery
nova launcher
trebuchet
beanstalk explorer
terninal C-lock widget
Instructions
1. backup current rom
2. flash rom
3. flash gapps
4. flash supersu
5. boot and enjoy

I don't know if your upload or my download was corrupt on supersu but I had another one and that worked fine.
Install worked great. boot time was reasonable. I couldn't get your dialer to work so I grabbed one from the play store (first one in the list by modohut) worked fine at least for outgoing calls haven't tried calling in yet. I couldn't get sms to work at all so I installed hangouts and that works fine for me(not my preferred app but it works). No other issues so far but I am still testing. Thanks for the upload.

You have working 3g and 4g data?
When you installed you only had one dialer? The posted zip should have miui dialer (not working) and an aosp dialer. The stock SMS/MMS worked for me see pic below. FYI Google xda lg g3 keyboard. Works great on this ROM. Also try out WSM tools along with the mi-tools module. This is a mini version of xposed and works well also.
Last bit of goodness you will find in your inbox in a little while. A modified plasma 2.53 kernel to bring lots of extras to the table.

3G seems to be working I am getting 400k to 600k down, I don't have 4g in my area but I do at my work so I can test that on Tuesday.
There were 2 phone icons one in the dock which is green the other on the desktop which is blue they both force close on me. I used http://www.callmylostphone.com to test incoming calls and I am indeed able to call with the the one I downloaded. I have never used the one from the play store before I just wanted to see if a random one would work.
Not sure why sms didn't work it didn't give any errors but didn't send anything either.
I will try the new kernel and let you know how that goes.

Philz has an option to do a wipe for a rom install, I did that as well as wiping cache and dalvik. Is there anything else you would want me to try? I would be able to try reinstalling tomorrow morning (almost my bed time now). The kernel you PMed me boots and shows in about phone. I downloaded Synapse from the playstore, wow that is a lot of options not sure I should be messing with some of them but I will definitely try a few of them out.

The sms/mms was my fault. It does work I have uninstalled hangouts. The phone I can not get working with the two default ones.
I get a lot of crashes complaining about themes not working even though I haven't tried to set one as you said it was broken.
Off to bed now. Thanks again.
