Hello everybody!!
I have a question about setting the default browser on my Galaxy S III, Im currently using Dolphin Browser and I know about the option in the settings to make it the default browser. But when I use the default "Web" Icon on the homescreen it still opens the Browser that came with the phone. I tried downloading apps that "change" the default apps used but still opens the wrong one... I had gotten this to work for my other S III and Galaxy Note before i had to return it due to a dead pixel but ive had no luck in getting it working again... if anybody knows anything on how to get this set correctly i would greatly apprecaite it!!
Thanks in advanced!!

Tried Settings, App Maanger, All, Internet, Clear Defaults?
Yes I have tested that, but when I go to the Internet app it says that their is no default app set

Oh, wait. I think I misunderstood your question. You want the globe icon that says internet to open Dolphin? Not sure if that is very feasible.
That icon is like an icon on your computer (I.e. it is not a shortcut). That icon is specifically for the stock internet app.
But, it's probably possible. I would start a new thread about how to change icons of apps. I use Nova Launcher and I can rename icons, but not change the picture. But, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me know how.
It is possible I've done it before but I am not able to recall how I did it lol

Oh.
Well, if you don't figure it out, I found this today: http://android.appstorm.net/how-to/...guide-to-customizing-your-home-screen-icons/
EDIT:
DesktopVisualizer does exactly this!

Guys please dont kill me.. im a noob when it comes to android
I updated from a Blackberry 9700 to the G2 today, is there an easier way to arrange the apps in the home screen? do i have to click and drag every single app to the location i want/need? Is there something a la itunes (ipod touch) way to do on the computer?
TIA
-FuRBz-
I'm not a n00b and yet the only way I've seen is to have a "free" slot open to on a screen and swap apps in and out of the free space to arrange everything. Lame.

I'm interested in how else you would like the apps arranged, aside from positioning them yourself?

I second this. If you want an Alphabetical list of all your apps, use the main app menu. The home screens don't need to be very / at all populated if you don't want.

Wow, you guys didn't help the man at all!
When you pull up the app drawer, just long-press an icon and you can drag it to any place you want on the home screen of your choice... If you want to remove apps from your home screen just long press it and drag and drop into the little trash can that pops up!
thanks omarsalmin, what i was referring to was in the itunes desktop application you can arrange the icons via your mouse instead of physically clicking and dragging the app on the actual device- i was wondering if android had something similar

No, because unlike the iphone, android apps on the homescreen are shortcuts put their by the user... and all the alphabetized apps are in the app tray... it's not an infinite number of screens holding app upon app, so there's really no need for a computer interface to arrange your 7 or so screens with a handful of apps.
It seems that part of what he's referring to is the ability in the iPhone to drag icons around and the others automatically shift out of the way. Once Android, it's like a game of slide-picture

Ask and you shall receive.. Screencast... about halfway down on that page.
I can't get Screencast to work, it keeps saying unable to start application..
I've installed Android SDK Manager and the latest Java Runtime Environment as well.
Welcome to Anroid! While you question has been answered I would just like to add there is a tutorial built into the phone. You can access it from:

Unread email counter doesnt work with adw launcher. I have tried adw notifier but it only helps on gmail and the other. Its only showing the icon without the counter. I'm using the stock email app and the counter shows just fine in touchwiz. Any know how I can fix this?
Thanks

Doesnt seem to be much in the way of replys on this forum
I have the same problem with Galaxy Tab
Hi,
Anybody figured out how to get the email counter with Adw launcher? I was getting this counter correctly with default Samsung Launcher but not with ADW.
Thanks
Raju
Searching ADW launcher you will find many people with the same complaint. IT just doesnt support it. I have seen reason ranging from they didnt build it that way too Android does not have an open DB connection for it.
No matter what the reason it sucks and the people using the "Stock" apps are screwed unless you get K-9 or us the gmail app itself (which I dont particularly like).
I have found that if you buy tasker you can make build a workaround with that and minimalistic text. But I did not like the way it did it. and it didnt give me a unread count option :\
Wish I could be more help
Thanks,
SoBBie
PS I use a droid incredible.
I just got my e4gt and I thought I saw some phone with it in the messaging app have a custom skin/look. Like a theme for the texting app? I dont see anything like that at all. just curious as if its possible and how?
I use GO SMS PRO currently, and have used HANDCENT in the past. Both have customizable setting that allow you to change just about any part of the app to look exactly how you want it.
Hope that helps.
I use handcent its awesome

I flashed .67 then rooted. Somewhere in the mix I lost the native browser! I would use chrome and move on but chrome isn't allowing me to add bookmark links to the home screen....which is key for me. Anyone know how the native one got hosed?
Chrome is the default browser. Did mean the old stock android "Browser"?

Are you sure?? Chrome lets me add a widget with direct links of my choosing to any screen. Looks exactly like the native browser widget with the only difference being the Chrome sign in the lower right corner.

Thanks all. I meant that in stock form the ZL had a chrome icon and another browser that had a blue globe as an icon. They seemed to be different in the way the operated.
I did figure out how to do the home screen link. It won't offer it if you are in the "star fav's" view of the bookmarks, while the normal bookmark view enabled it. Is there any advantage to the stock android browser? That must be what I thought was the "Sony" browser.

Huh, my ZL never came with android browser, only chrome.
Afaik Chrome is just about better than the stock browser in every way, atleast on the ZL.
Hi all,
My stock browser used to set the homepage to google whenever close it by clicking on the Exit Button, but now it doesn't do it anymore..it opens the last visited page. Is there anyway to get it back as it was? I've checked the homepage settings and it's set to google..all settings look fine to me.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks guys.
Try wiping data of the browser and then set the homepage.
