I had an HD2 and switched to the Evo about 2 weeks ago, and I know the Evo has a higher res camera and all, however, I have noticed that my HD2 took much better pictures than my Evo.
My Evo's pics come out sort of blurry sometimes, like I'm shaking when I take the pictures, but I'm not. When I had the HD2, I would press to take a picture, and it would focus itself and then take the picture, however, the Evo, I press to take the picture and it doesn't even take a second to focus... It just takes the picture the second I press the button.
Am I doing something wrong?
Simple, because it has a better camera lol.

mine to takes crappy pics, but i heard a 'pop' when i put it down one time...and it seems if i'm angling my camera down at all..it focus's and is crystal clear than in teh last second it falls out of focus.
Have you tried the cm6 camera? IMO it's one of the better choices for the EVO.
Why don't you just use Camera Magic.....It does auto focus....higher quality photos and more lol
While the focus could be better, I have noticed that sometimes the full-size preview of the pic I took appears to be blurry; however, when I zoom in a bit, the image is actually in-focus. I'm not sure if it's just the HTC gallery app or what, but that's how it seems to me. HTC definitely needs to improve the camera/video app. It could be in the works and they're just holding onto it until another update. Kinda like how we finally got the 60 fps unlock that was supposedly a hdmi hardware issue. =D
I'm sorry but EVO takes better pics than HD2 by a long shot. I had the HD2. EVO does auto focus by default. You just have to be very still and let it focus before snapping a shot or yes it'll come out blurry.

I use my Evo camera exactly the same way I used my HD2 camera. I always wait for it to fully focus itself before I press the button, and on my HD2, it would like re-focus itself. The Evo does the initial focus, then I press the button and it just snaps instantly. And the result, a lot of times, is a slightly blurry, grainy picture. Again, I used both cameras exactly the same, never had a problem with my HD2.
On another note, it tried camera magic as someone suggested, and it seems to work a lot better than the stock camera app. I haven't had blurry pics with it! Thanks!

I found that if I hold my camera high and angle down, lighting and focus are much better. It's weird but it works.

I did a test and the camera app beats out camera magic if you can keep you hands steady enough. Camera Magic saves the image in a smaller pixel size and it looks better on the phone because you seen it focus before you snapped. File size was 851kb on best settings. I held my stock camera steady and snapped a shot and when I had both on my computer the camera app won with higher resolution and 2mb file size. Maybe you can just learn to steady ur hands or use camera magic and sacrifice pixel size.

Hey everyone. I've been following the boards for years, literally since I had a win mobile 5 phone back in the day, but I've never posted lol. But my question is, and I've searched everywhere to no avail, would it be possible to port the samsung galaxy or droid x camera apk to the droid inc? I feel like both cameras have their strong points, and are better in some ways than the inc camera. I love the inc camera, but the one and only problem I have is the focus. When taking close up photos, there is no macro setting to get a nice clear close up pic. It will start blurry, focus into a perfectly sharp picture, then go back to blurry and snap the photo. I was boasting to my friend and girlfriend about how awesome my brand new droid inc camera was, but when I went to take a close up pic (about 6 inches away) from a cig pack, it came out blurry every time. My friends iphone 3g and my girlfriends galaxy s both took perfect focused pics. But the inc seems to lack in this department. I know the lens has the ability to focus, but maybe its a software limitation? Are there any better camera apks from other phones that will work on the inc? I've tried almost every app from the market but none offer a macro setting. My moto droid 1, and even lg dare, took great pics and both had a macro setting. And I'm fairly well versed in basic photography. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I tried searching, and I'm sorry if this its in the wrong forum.. Thanks for your help!

If you long press on the screen where you want it to focus, it will focus and snap the photo without pressing the track pack. This works well for close ups but it's limitation seems to be right at six inches or so, any closer and it seems to lose the ability to focus. Hopefully this helps, I'm currently running the Evo camera but if memory serves the Inc was the same way.
Yeah I've tried the evo camera but it seemed to be the same software as the inc except with an added shutter button on the screen. And I always use the touch focus instead of the track ball to snap the photo. I was really hoping someone may have heard of other cameras that were ported to the inc.

Any body else severely disappointed in the camera on the Evo? I'm by all means not new to it (had it since August), so its not an epiphany. I think its just finally hit me how bad this camera is. During the day, or with natural lighting (outside shots mostly), yes, it looks absolutely wonderful. But thats where it ends. Anywhere else, its grainy and pixelated. And thats unacceptable to me with the way they were advertising how good the camera is. I know 8mp is no way to measure the resolution, but I've tweaked the settings about every way I can, and I still can not get a good picture unless its a natural setting.
As far as the video recording goes, its even worse. Its supposed to shoot 720p. Which is something I should be able to plug into my tv and look nice. It doesnt even look good on my phone. Again, its grainy and pixelated in non-natural conditions. And the sound quality is absolutely horrible. Mumbled and garbled. Are there any settings for the sound that could make that better? Ive noticed if I kick down the resolution a notch or two, i get better quality. But I should have to. So, im just curious about your opinions of the camera. Have you made it as good as its supposed to be? Or are you just another disappointed customer?
Either I am just, in no way a "videophile" or something is wrong with your phone. Mine seems to work fine...
Probably my low standards though. I mean it is a phone afterall.

I had the iphone 4 before the evo, and I have to say, the iphone 4 has a camera that is so much better than the evo it isn't funny. So yes the evo camera is terrible. HTC went for higher MP vs Quality. It is like comparing a point and shoot to a DSLR
I have a 1970 Chevelle Malibu that I am selling and I originally took pictures of it with my iphone and they look spectacular. I then took pictures with my evo after getting it, and there is no way I'd use those pictures to advertise my car.

yeah. i saw multiple comparisons on various websites between the EVO and iPhone 4 and the iPhone is hands down, better. The colors are more vibrant and crisp. And the video quality and sound makes the evo look like a flip phone
I found if I turn off the auto focus, my pictures are much better. That said, I think the iphone still beats the Evo camera
MIUI 1.2.25 with stock kernel
HW003
Anyway to do this. I like how my evo front facing camera is in full screen and not cropped to a section of the screen.
The Evo FFC is 1.3 mp meaning the resolution captured fills the screen without being stretched while ours is only VGA which is slightly lower than our screen res of 800x480 so it wouldn't scale right, I'm sure it could be done but it wouldn't look pretty.
I see, thanx for the reply.
I wish the front facing camera wouldn't make the person loon sideways.

I wish my front facing camera didn't turn the person into a green blob of unrecognizableness.
Seems typical of samsung quality to have pre-broken hardware in a "new" phone.
The Galaxy S 4g(or vibrant 4g what ever you want to call it) has a full screen ffc, vga also...hmmm it could be a 2.1 thing.
Not a 2.1 thing. Its like this on 2.2

Has anyone noticed that the camera is slower to take pics in the s3 then it was in the s2? It seems that it takes a lot longer to focus and when you take the pic they are not in focus as often.
Is this just me?
First, no, I don't believe the camera is slower. I can take pic after pic after pic. No problems.
Burst mode works great too , but stock camera has it set that the picture settings turn to "fine" instead of superfine.
A problem I have been experiencing however is when I go into my gallery sometimes the picture turn to crap. Blocky and can't zoom etc. Look horrible ! At first I thought I was looking at a dropbox photo but that turned out not to be the case. I can't replicate it all the time , it seems to do this spontaneously. A reset usually clears it up.
I would suggest a power cycle and see if the problems keeps happening.

I did and still do. I gave my S2 to my wife and my daughter has one too. I feel that the S3 camera is much better than the S2. Tap to focus is where it's at. I went to a Counting Crows concert the other day and took some great shots with it. They are not all going to be perfect but for the most part they were good.
Exact opposite for me.
I had the Epic 4G Touch. The S3 takes pictures almost instantly; I can move my hand nearly instantly after clicking the button.
I haven't thoroughly tested, but I can definitely say it's faster at taking pictures. Didn't try the focus yet.

one of the big selling points for the sgs3 was the instant shutter. seems like you're only talking about focus though, not actual shutter speed.
