It keeps on focus and unfocus for near objects.
I dont think this is the product's defect but it comes with the release.
How u guys solve it or minimize the problem?
Should I go to Sony centre and claim? Cause there will be enough proof and they probably cant answer about it.
You're trying to focus on object closer than the minimum focus length.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
That's called continuous focus and is active when you are on one focus point - if you change to multiple focus points - there will be no continuous focusing, it's your choice.
Hi, I think Pixy132 is right there - sounds like you're trying to focus on something closer than the camera can handle.
tbh the stock camera app is awful. I downloaded Camera FV-5 (paid app but cheap) recently and wouldn't go back to the stock one for all the tea in China.
The dev is good with communication too and I've already helped him iron a couple of bugs out with it ( I have NO affiliation )
The other good camera apps are UCam, lgcamera and Camera MX. All have a decent Macro focus mode that lets you get stuff like the one I've attached (cropped a little but not much!)
hth!
Try using touch focus
It makes the camera focus faster

I see.
What about problems like slow focussing?
Once i press the camera button, It adjusts the focus and take the photo. But sometimes it can't focus properly before the photo was taken.
It happens with all of you right?

Press the focus button first. When its focused, you can take a picture.
You can also use multi focus or touch focus.

How about onscreen shuttle?
Yeah unfortunately this is a problem with the xperia S I still have no idea if its hardware/software or what, but I have raised it many times and got xperiablog to do an article on it http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/09/16/xperia-s-owners-who-has-camera-autofocus-issues/
so hopefully sony will release a statement about it sometime...

There's another issue regarding your suggestion.
When the camera button is gently press (focus), it sometimes lock the focus too early that the image is still blur.

Forget the stock camera app - it's terrible (I'm a photographer and trying to grab snaps with the Xperia was driving me mad).
Any of the ones I listed in the previous post focus quicker and more accurately by far compared to the stock app. Image quality is better too. Seriously, change the app and start enjoying using it!
btw the pic I uploaded seems to have been "softened" by this site. It's much sharper than that!
My Xperia S camera stopped focusing at all
Hi Guys, can any one help me. It was working fine 2 days ago, But it stopped focusing at all.
Does it relates to any physical damage to device as my device slipped out of my hand 2 days ago but i am not sure that it stopped working at that time.

Ok, I'm having a hit or miss problem with the camera. I have fresh 3.1, btw.
I'll try to take a picture of something, for example, I have a rubix cube here. keeping the camera about 8" away from the cube, trying to get a picture of the word "Rubix". I tap the button to take a picture. the camera goes in and out of focus, it focuses the word "Rubix" perfectly, then goes out of focus and snaps the picture. I've tried tapping the screen to focus on the specific area, and it still does it. I've tried holding the button down until the picture takes, but it still goes in and out of focus, then snaps a blurry pic, or at least the area I want focused is blurry. Another issue with the flash... When the flash goes off, the camera will focus in and out on the object, and usually hold until the flashed area is focused and not washed out. But the camera just snaps the picture without focusing.
Like I said, both problems come and go. Any ideas?
I've searched and I still don't see any answers. Anyone?

Indeed Jason, indeed.
The TTF utility is very hit and miss. As is the entire camera functionality.

Sent from my Fresh 3.4 Evo (2nd refurbished unit) with major light leakage, crappy camera, and lag switch enabled.
The camera focusing algorithm appears to be flawed.
It will take someone to completely rewrite the camera app code to make this right with the evo camera.
It's clear to me that the AOSP camera code doesn't work well with the Evo camera. And unfortunately, HTC chose not to use a new code, but rather use the default Froyo code with this new piece of hardware.
Until someone takes the time to write the proper code for focusing the Evo camera, you are stuck with trying to manually focus the camera, multiple times, until the good looking focus is achieved.
It takes me good 5-10 times to manually focus the camera until a good sharp image is seen...
Is there any possebility? It drives me crazy when you try to take a picture of a friend and yourself!
I searched a whole lot, but this "Big Button Camera" App that is out there replaces the normal camera and its not free.
If there would be an App that lays the Shutter on volume Down or Up during camera mode, that would be great! I can zoom (if I need it) on screen...
what did HTC think?

For making pictures of yourself you can use the self-portrait function. The phone then sees your face in the frame and takes a picture. Works quite good.

Yep ... it's awesome.
Face recognition doesn't always work for me.
Another alternative is to set a delay on the photo. Gives you time to position the camera before the picture is taken. Not sure why HTC have only given two options - 2 secs and 10 secs - though...
Try this works very well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464&highlight=desire

I did not make this app!!! Just thought I would share it with you. It is included in my rom and is very good! Link is here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.moblynx.cameraics I really like it. Once again I have nothing to do with this app. Just though I would share it.
Edit: do not ask about my rom please. I am getting flooded with PMs and people should just email me about my rom, not pm or post in a completely unrelated thread. Thank you.

tried your camera ics..
auto focus is bad on it other than that its pretty good.
if you want a good camera use procapture camera
i use my cam alot and i have almost all cam apps from vignette to fxcam to cartoon cam. but the best of the best IMO is procapture for the auto focus and when it takes a pic the screen doesn't go black like in camfx or vignette and yes is has volume keys to take pic.
just my 2cents.

mostly just auto focus not working. the devs of the app said they are working to improve it. Oh i should mention the auto focus is just bad with the volume keys it takes good pics with focus if you touch the red button and hold to focus then release to take pic. but since Samsung couldn't afford to add a dedicated cam button, volume keys to take pic is a must for me.

Why would you buy Camera ICS? It is a free app but the paid version doesn't have ads. To block ads just get an ad blocker (assuming you have root access) from the market. And this is not "my app". I just wanted to share it with you. It runs with no bugs on my phone and it works flawlessly with my rom. Thank you for the feedback though, guys!

Hi,
my Xperia S in the last months have problems with focus.
Camera photos have focus only in the center and the borders are blurred. Like Photoshop blur filter.
No one have this problems ? May be the rom ? It's stock Rom ICS .55
Before i had no problems.
Thanks for your replies!
LL
ps this is an example ogt my problems. All photos are as this one. Changing scenes or settings doesn't solve problem.
Do you have any case on your xs ? Or something near the camera ?

correct me if im wrong but i think you're using manual settings
now in manual settings dont set your metering to center, set it to average and take a sample shot..and set your focus to multi auto focus
post another sample shot with these settings
Something is disturbing the lens sight. Remove your back cover, clean the lens with a soft cloth and try again without the back cover or anything else.

None of these ....
I've already cleaned the camera with a soft clooth, testing all focus modes , reset phone.
None of these test works. The issue is present from 2 months , before i've no problems.
I think it's an hardware issue ...
Probably i want to upgrade my phone to Galaxy Note 2 so i'm thinking to sell it... what do you think ? Anybody tried the note 2 ?

Just got this Galaxy, amazing phone and whatnot, and installed wicked rom.
Tried all three camera's (GE, stock, moto) and none seem to auto focus right before a snapshot. It only auto focuses while the camera is active not right before taking it its own and this causes me to take blurry pictures (I have horrible steady hands). Basically it focuses only before I click the snap button I want it to do it automatically after I click it.
My old E4GT however does it and it is one thing I loved about it. It would take a second to capture the picture but it would take it in perfect focus because it would automatically detect it right before the shot after I click the snap button.
Any ideas on how I can add that feature to this phone?

Mine auto focus after I hit the "snap" button. I'm on Infamous S4 V4 ROM so I can't speak for Wicked. It shouldn't be any different IMO. Maybe play around with the settings.
I just hold on to the snap button for about a second and that focuses it really good, and that takes really good quality picture.
The camera on the s4 is not as quick to take sharp pictures as my note 2 other s3. I've just learned to tap the screen to focus first before taking a pic. Or I just tap n hold on the screen for a few seconds and once I let go it takes a pic automatically

I'll try that ROM because this is really irritating how my S2 takes better pictures than my S4.
And even stock rom auto focus before you hit the snap not after which is really weird.

I believe I've noticed that if you hold the camera directed towards the focus of your shot for say, 5 to 7 seconds, although delayed, it will adjust by auto-focusing SLIGHTLY. Not as good as just tap on the area of the screen that you want focused.

He is saying he wants it to re-focus AFTER the shutter button is pressed before it actually captures the photo. So the process would go like this:
1. Camera opens
2. Point at subject
3. Auto focus on subject to frame the shot
4. Press shutter button
5. Re-focus
6. Capture image
Plenty of cameras out there do this, and as pointed out, ours do it when the flash is on. They will vary the amount of light from the flash and lens focus simultaneously to capture the best picture quality.
I don't see why it doesn't do this either, my old HTC did the re-focus after the shutter button thing and you get much more clear photos. I sometimes have to try a couple times doing close up shots of things like text on identification tags (so I don't have to write numbers down) with my phone myself, and I have "normal" steadiness hands.

Okay, you want it to focus once, then after its already focused, focus again? Really? Thats kind of defeating the point. You already have focus on the subject why would you need focus on it again? That makes taking pictures much longer a process. However, if it doesn't have focus already, and you press the shutter button, then it takes focus again. But i have no issues taking crystal clear pics unless i accidentally move while its snapping the pic. But the way it focuses now is normal and how it should be. Focusing twice is really pointless..
The OP was asking, not me, and he said he has shaky hands which is why he misses this feature. It only takes a fraction of a second for the camera to do anyway. A lot of phone cameras do this already and you don't notice it. Heck, most hand held digital cameras focus before capturing the image AFTER you press the shutter button.

Lol i wasn't trying to point fingers or anything lol. I am just extremely confused, if my phone doesn't have focus and i press the shutter button, it focuses then takes the pic. but if it does auto focus before i press the shutter button, and i move then immediately press the shutter button, it will refocus.. so i am extremely confused as to what the OP wants..
isn't this marketed as a "feature" called zero shutter lag? I use procapture the majority of the time and it focuses after clicking the shutter.
