Moo.com is a custom printing company that specializes in high quality business cards and "mini-cards". Their latest product is a business card with a writable NFC chip inside. They've taken to calling it the "third side" of the business card.
No technical details or pricing yet, but if you place an order for one of their other products, they'll throw one in for free.
It's simply a NFC tag embedded into the paper. Should not be that expensive.
that is relative damastus. NFC tags are currently about $1 each ordered on ebay from china (anyone found cheaper?)
$1 for an NFC tag is not much $1 for a business card is like buying a solid gold business card. IE you won't be selling too many

Interesting, will see how this works
I only need one card to be NFC enabled, and that'll be in the clear card holder on the front of my binder. Then people can just tap it to add my business contact to their phone.
EDIT: Of course, currently I'm just going to stick a sticker on the back of my current card... But if I can get one free the next time I order cards, might as well.

amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=blank+nfc+stickers&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ablank+nfc+stickers&ajr=0
and rapidnfc.com has wristbands, key fobs, custom printing, and more!
I think i would rather pay pennies to the Chinese to do that for me tho!
Is there any advantage of having NFC enabled business cards when I already have a NFC enabled Phone with a Business card app? I am new to NFC, so its possible I am missing something.
the advantage is you can "do" interesting things with your business card (embed stuff in it electronically)
now you CAN do the exact same thing with QR codes as well (and they are free) but NFC requires ZERO initial input from the user if they are already "set up" to use NFC (it its already turned on etc.. etc..)
just touch the card to the phone and it "does it" while the QR code requires them to install a camera scanner and requires them to load it run it align it with the card get it in focus etc.. etc..
Just a more "transparent" form of QR basically but for some operation that transparency makes the difference between useful and useless.

This I understand. I was just telling that a NFC enabled phone can act as a card, what is the advantage of a separate card.
I am trying to be humurous here
so your just going to hand them your $500 phone and say keep it ? hehe
point i they can take the "card" with them. they can't take your PHONE with them and it retain the NFC active transparent content.
should also be GREAT for word of mouth once NFC is more common place.
let me give you an example. you have a large client who can possibly get your MORE clients. you give them one of these special NFC cards.
now when he see's someone else who also needs XYZ he can say he I know this guy here scan his card and he pulls out your business card and touches it to the back of this other person's phone and poof they got your info too.
lots of interesting usage possibilities. just needs to come down in price.

Portability, mostly. You don't have to fire up your business card app, and hand the phone to someone. I know a salesman who has an NFC tag on his portfolio - at meetings he uses that to share his business info, then gives out business cards. He said it's mostly for the coolness factor, and to break the ice (he sells software to geeks like me )
That said, I don't expect to see these get real popular at $1 a pop. At 10 cents, yes. As someone else pointed out, a QR code is free. Moo will let you add a QR code to a business card or mini card.
q426669 is right, a simple NFC sticker would do the job as well, but this supplier: TapMy.Biz actually managed to integrate the chip inside of the paper itself. So it actually feels like paper and the chip is totally invisible. Price is a little more than 1$ just that you get the mentioned added value I just described. Also they do the encoding for you which saves you time. I tried a few suppliers and they where the only one that actually ship right now, and don't deliver total crap.
Like nerys71 said NFC business cards are a great way to be remembered, so for some it might not be worth it to invest so much in a business card but like he said for some it really pays off. It really just depends in which industry you work in. A flower store for example wont get as much out of, but a grafic designer (links to his online portfolio) or app dev (links to the app in the playstore), or a simple startup (has vcard info on it) might benefit a lot from that. Investing in your business card can pay off. Check out this funny video which fits the subject: youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4YBxeDN4tbk

those are a bit more than $1 they are over $2 a pop even if you order 100 of them (whats $155 Euro's in US $ ?)
155 euro is about 200 usd. If nfc becomes more popular I reckon ways will be found to make it cheaper.

I'm probably going to get a starter pack with 48, 144 and 1k byte sizes but I was wondering what sizes others are using. I'll probably be posting back in a week or so to report how much data my various tags use.
I'm really excited about how powerful NFC could be for making phones easier to use. My only concern is whether or not 48 and 144 byes is enough for some of the things I want to do.
I'm interesting in turning off/on WiFi and Bluetooth when entering/leaving my house. Same with for my car dock but with GPS/Bluetooth. I'll probably put one in my wallet to turn off GPS/Bluetooth/WiFi (as a simpler way to turn off battery wasting signals). I've no doubt that I'll look into other things such as web/app shortcuts and adding contact information. I"m just not sure how much data each tag would take.
Yeah where can I get 5 or more?
I need to be able to write/read. Variety of sizes is good too. Located in Canada.
I'll put one in my locker haha. Disable wifi and go to vibrate and silence all apps with a tap. Then I'll use my "Enable" card to tap for full volume everything and then enable ringer and wifi.
Agreed I'm planning on picking one up and would love to set up NFC tags for everywhere i regularly go
Mine should arrive tomorrow. I haven't decided what do with mine. I use llama for location based changes. I'll turn one into a contact to keep in my wallet for business card data exchange. That leaves 9 blanks. Hmmmm....

Quick question..

144 bytes is probably enough for most things you'd want to do.
Looks like 144 will be enough for you.

Agreed. The only thing I've used the larger tags for was storing a vCard. And if you want to make your scripts even sorter, you can always use NFC to launch a Tasker task which can be as long and complex as you would like.

If you take a look at my picture attached to my earlier post you'll see a list of activities (wifi on, bluetooth on, etc). Those are the things that the phone will do when you hold it near that specific tag. So if I put that tag just inside my door and scan it when I walk into the house the phone would turn on my wifi and bluetooth, check me in on latitude and turn my volume all the way up. You can also have a tag launch a Tasker task.
I've got a few 112byte tags from some ex-library books.
Ive got one as in leave/enter the house to turn off/on wifi. I Also have one on my nightstand to enable silent mode
112b is fine for what I need which is ideal

Is there Cards & Stickers? or is it just different names on the same product?
Could someone point me to a card/sticker that works with our phones?

I think I am going to play around with this. already LOVE Google Wallet. I have three quick questions though.
1. Is it recommend/necessary to purchase pre-formatted tags to use with the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus? I have just switched to Gummy ROM based on 4.0.3 (I know need to update my signature). From what I have read 4.0.3 will support formatting, but is it just easier to purchase pre-formatted tags? Better question: Is there a down side to buying pre-formatted tags?
2. Which app would you recommend to program the tags with?
3. Anyone know a reputable supplier of NFC tags for someone in the U.S.?
I appreciate any advice.
1. The tags I've bought are off of eBay some china seller. They are pre-formatted as NDEF no downside that I can see as they work perfectly
2. I use NFC Task Launcher from the market it works great. Also the NXP apps are good.
3. Everyone seems to say that tag stand.com are good I've never used them as I'm from the UK

1. 4.0.2 and earlier had a bug where they couldn't format tags. Apparently that has been fixed in 4.0.3. I got mine preformatted. the place did it for free.
2. I used NFC task launcher. The free full version posted by the developer is in a thread around here somewhere. It is also on the market for a couple of bucks.
3. I got mine from these guys located in Florida. They shipped fast and used Google Checkout so I didn't have to give them my cc number.
Just ordered some from tagstand.com
I didn't get pre formatted, but they were cheap... I will update when I get them

The secure element is where credit card info is stored I think.

Which is to say "never".
Let me explain a few things:
Credit card schemes (e.g. VISA, Mastercard, Amex) have a whole bunch of security and compatibility requirements for building a payment device, such as a pinpad, or a chipcard. You see credit card companies are not overly concerned with your convenience. They are, however, concerned with fraud, since when some unfortunate merchant leaks a hundred million credit card numbers from some database, they are the one who ultimately have to pay for all the fraudulent charges afterwards. So, they are trying to mandate some sort of trusted party at the point of sale for all in-person credit card payment to go through. The chip on your chip credit card is a big part of this effort: with this chip, no one can economically clone your card.
That "secure element" of Google Wallet is probably a specialized piece of hardware, probably a TPM chip with some mechanism to generate a digital signature complete with state information of some sort (BTW no, it does not have to have your credit card data, it merely has to sign your payments in a way that can be traced back to your device). This is done with the sole purpose to make it impossible for you or anyone else to initiate a valid payment from an unauthorized device, or by bypassing it. You absolutely HAVE to have it, that's the whole point of it: it is built so that you cannot read it without destroying it, and your whole phone with it, and even when you do that, that just one chip you have compromised at a great cost. You won't even break even doing that.
The ultimate goal is to make credit card fraud economically unviable: even if your merchant leaks your credit card number to a credit card fraudster, they have to go out and steal your phone or your physical credit card before they can use it. Now try stealing a hundred million cell phones or credit cards without getting caught.

I hear you but, having worked with these people, I can see how they think and work. I would be extremely surprised if I see Google Wallet on my phone. I want it no less than you, but in my eyes if Google is to pull this feat off, they would have to go against the entire payment industry all by themselves, or else foot any and all reported cases of fraud themselves. Neither is very likely to happen.
On a brighter note, here is my version of "Google Wallet": I put a paypass card in my wallet and scan it without taking it out. The "Google" part sits in my other pocket.

The one's from here are a little more pricey but they look better and come with a free keychain, which is also an NFC tag itself as well, IIRC.

Tagsfordroid Review
Thanks for the links - cheaper and cooler looking than the ones from Samsung. So these will work with the Samsung NFC app just like the Samsung branded ones would? (I'm new to this whole NFC thing and trying to fully grasp it.)
I know what the tags do, but does anybody actually have a good idea of how to use them?
and just FYI a buck each is a real good deal the AT&T store has a pack of 5 for $15
From looking at that tagstand link, I don't know that I would buy them. They are low memory models that don't seem to be rewritable AND lockable. The TagsforDroid ones are 1K and rewritable and lockable. A bit more expensive but more bang for the buck.

From the size, it would depend on how complex the task is I imagine. I would say it could probably store between 1 and 3 tasks as a guess, depending on complexity.

I don't know if you're aware, but you can create a toggle, instead of using two tags.
like you can put two tasks in the same tag.
I'm really new to nfc, never used it before. I know Samsung released their version of nfc tags called Tectiles but I think they are too over priced for some stickers. I was wondering what size of nfc tags are good to buy and from where do you guys buy your nfc tags for cheap?

Good question if anyone has any experience with NFC and the tectiles please help us out
I've done a little researching on this topic.
The Samsung TecTiles contain a Type 1 MIFARE chip with 1KB of memory.
The Galaxy S3 supports Types 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Type 4 NFC tags are capable of 2KB of memory.
I've found the Type 4 (MIFARE Desfire EV1 2K chip) here:
http://www.identivenfc.com/nfc-tags/google-nfc-tags-type4.htm
Type 1 NFC tags can be found here:
http://www.tagsforandroid.com/tags/Home.html
Beware, cause not all Type 1 NFC tags contain 1KB of memory.
+1 for tagsfordroid
and you get a free nfc keychain with your purchase!
FYI - Here's another thread discussing tectiles and generic nfc tags... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749028

I'm not sure yet how much can fit on the 1K tags, I don't have my S3 yet.
For the price at tags4droid, I went with those to play around with them and see what I can do with them.
The keychain could be used to toggle on/off a car mode (wifi off, gps on, bluetooth on if you have ford sync or similar etc...)
I've bought from tagsfordroid.com and use them with my work phone (HTC One X) at work and at home. I have a tag that silences the phone when I walk into a meeting and one at my desk that turns on wi-fi, bluetooth, starts SiriusXM and sets the volume to a specified level.
I use an app from the Google Market (I can't call it Play - it sounds too stupid) called NFC Task Launcher to program my tags. It's easy and the tags are rewrite-able so you can try out some tasks before settling on them.
I did a good bit of research before buying NFC chips. At $3 a piece, Samsung TecTiles are just 1k Mifare chips that they've branded for Samsung. The tagsfordroids are the same thing with a different sticker. I ended up getting 4k chips from Amazon (www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006K3XWLK/ref=mp_s_a_1?pi=SL75&qid=1348809340&sr=8-1) for less than either of the other guys are selling them.
I'm using one at work to toggle wifi on, bluetooth & gps off, vibrate mode, and all volumes down. Since NFC is relatively new I'm sure more technology will be introduced that requires maximum space to take full advantage of it.
Hope this helps someone.
Here's a couple articles on Rootzwiki about NFC tags/apps. Watching the videos made me want to purchase NFC tags cuz they seem useful:

I watched all these videos, thanks. The general census seems to be that 144 bytes is enough storage, according to these guys. Looks like the 5 tags I bought for about $11 (after shipping) is more than enough.

The reason I opted for the most possible memory is because the task I use daily is a "switch" (changes my settings one way, then changes them all the opposite on the next swipe). Just one of the tasks in this switch is 111 bytes so 144 wouldn't cut it for me:
I'm hoping in the future that these chips will be capable of sharing content. Instead of linking websites and changing settings (which is super cool), actually store pictures, music, files, and upload to thr devices on a swipe. Just a thought, it might not be possible. In any case, I think I'm future proofed af least for a short while LOL.

I bought those a long time ago. I honestly don't know if I could ever find them again. Try searching MiFare 4K tags.

I just need a seller that can ship worldwide to unconfirmed addresses (unless someone can help me out and tell me how to confirm it, specifically, other than already having received items to my address).
Rating looks good, but it says that it ships from hong kong. Not that it's bad, but I have only bought a couple of things off ebay, so I come to you guys who could probably help me.
I realize this is a question but I think it's best suited here.
There's also a seller in the US, who ships internationally, but from taiwan, which makes the whole point of 'buying from a US seller' for me quite pointless. He also demands a confirmed address. So there's that.
Doesn't have to be ebay, either, any seller would work.
I would never buy an SD card from eBay. I've seen way too many horror stories and hardly any good stories.
Have you checked out Amazon.com? It shows they ship international and have legit SD cards.
Samsung 64GB Micro SD Card - $64.99
Sandisk Ultra 64GB Micro SD Card - $50.51

Note the sellers 99.1% positive ratings.
Anything above 99% is good in my books.
I don't think this is a fake, but that's just me.

Can you actually get this shipped to my country? treat me like a retard if necessary, I know nothing of online shopping as here its nonexistent.
edit: I didn't realize there were 3 links, so it would cost me 5 bucks for shipping? I don't want a SanDisk sd card because that's exactly why I'm looking for a new one, my current and last SanDisk died after 4 month, I haven't even filled it completely, not even once. not to ditch the company, but I would like to try Samsung this one time

You can simply purchase one of the above SD cards and just enter in all your information and see what the damage is. Just click Add to Cart then either Sign In or Sign Up for Amazon then enter all your information.

Suppose that doesn't work, will I get charged for it (and then refunded)?
I wouldn't ask if I wasn't living in a police state, hence my concerns.

You could always contact Amazon through phone or email and ask them to make sure. But Amazon is very good with handling these kind of things.

It appears I would have to go through the international delivery section, and they don't have this specific sdxc card with 64GB of storage space.
Back to ebay I guess?
How about this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/190834215562
EDIT: I think the one in the OP is still the best choice, just checked the whole seller's shop and he's sold a lot of these sdxc cards.
You can go with that one in the OP. It seems legit enough. Make sure you read up on the returns just in case!

Returns? Man, you guys have it easy! What returns are you actually talking about? What goes in here, doesn't ever leave the country, EVER. Not kidding! HAHAHA
Went with it anyhow, I'll let you know in a couple of weeks how did it go, thanks for the help .
So, an update to whoever was interested:
- The item arrived today, around 3 weeks since purchase (this is mainly due to customs, not shipping).
- Illustrated size shows 58.5GB (exFAT), with at least 58.4GB usable (didn't bother to fill in the last 100MB). I filled the card with my files (videos, .isos and anything else. All files seem to be readable, not corrupted.
Pic for proof:

- Write speed is around 16MB/s, although this might be faster since I have a really sad card reader. I used h2testw to show the write speed (didn't bother to refill the sdcard once again).
Proof:
And finally, here's packaging for reference (I will remove any unnecessary info from the envelope).
PS: note that the sandisk card on the left is the dead one, and the sandisk adapter is the one that came with it and I'm currently using.
PS2: forgot to add that it includes a funny 'thank you' note in the envelope.
