thanks again guys youve been great
If u mean the app Mybackup.. well thats for backing up apps + data. But u need a root/file explorer. Goto playstore/market and download "solid explorer" and the back up u made is on ur sdcard in a file i think called "reware" also in playstore search superuser and update it. U can delete that zysploit thing too.

You mean make a Nandroid Backup? Just use the "backup" feature in recovery. That will backup your whole phone, and if you break something, that backup will restore your phone to its exact state at the time the backup was made.

Hi, I have a HTC Desire Froyo 2.2 with a HBOOT of 0.920001.
I've tried to see how to root my phone without having to downgrade the android system to 2.1.
I've seen some forums talking about the unrevoked3 that is capable of rooting my phone 2.2 without doing pretty much anything. :3
But in order to root my phone do I have do anything first like backup my software and other things like photos or videos?
How can I root my phone with the file reflash?
Explain to me as if I was pretty ignorant, please.
Use unrevoked 3.2, it will give you root without any data loss.

Do you still need a goldcard for this or can you use it straight away in stock froyo using hboot 0.92?
My phone is t-mobile but their logo doesn't appear on boot up, just the HTC one.
So I dont have to do any sort of backup on my phone if I use unrevoked3 right?
Just to be clear...I only need to plug in my phone and run the unrevoked?
And last thing...it says that I need to be certain that HTC SYNC isn't installed in my pc...why?
Don't know, just remove it and once you're rooted add it again...
As for backup, no you don't but it's best to have the stock RUU to hand incase you ever need to return the phone
you need to remove HTC Sync and install the modified drivers privided by Unrevoked team inside reflash zip(it's a link that says hboot drivers).

1) Connect the phone, run unrevoked, you're rooted
2) You need to remove HTC Sync, because it might want to access your device at the same time with unrevoked

i think they are just covering their asses to make sure you incur no additional problems. they just want to weed out anything that might cause a bump in the road. and therefore, avoid the influx of user emails stating "while i was doing something, windows open htc sync and made my boot screen the theme song to M*A*S*H and when it finally boots up, it's the XBOX game "Me and My Pony 2".

Is it a SLCD desire.?
when flashing did u use the custom file in unrevoked and added the clock work recovery file.?
and did u use rom manager for flashing custom roms.?
pls help
I have the led sreen Desire but it also works for the SLCD.
Just install the unrevoked drivers, download the software and open it.
Just that simple.
As for installing custom roms I use Rom manager and titanium backup for backing up my apps.
After you root your phone download rom manager and backup your current rom before installing a new one.
so should I use the nandriod backup before I root? Can take away the root by just resoter from the backup?
Is unrevoked also install some new recovery image ? Or it just give root access ?

Unrevoked is a rooting process. It just adds a recovery ROM to your device and gives you Superuser access. If you put it on Froyo, you get Froyo, put it on Eclair, you get a rooted Eclair etc..
Once you root with unrevoked, you can backup immediately and restore to that point of time anytime.
If you put a Froyo ROM after rooting, you get a rooted Froyo..
Hi everyone
After I installed Rc3 I decide to try another rom and try to used it via rom manager, when the rom manager try to recovery stuck n the green htc logo. I have to take off that battery and turn on n the regular way.
then I tried to unroot my g2 but, didnt notice that i had to install the preota file via rom manager and just boot the pc1mg and the s is on, after that i reboot my phone and turn on n cyanogen r3 and is rooted.
the problem is that my g2 is working like rooted, but cant change the rom...
theres another way to unroot and start over?
thanks for your help and sorry my English...
Which recovery are you using?
Im using Rom Manager...
but i tried volume buttom down and power and nothing...
can anyone help? anyone know how to fix this? cant reset my phone or cant install another rom

S-OFF hasn't got anything to do with root, other than you need root to get to S-OFF. So your phone has gone back to S-ON but is still rooted, that's why you can't flash any custom ROMs.
How did you get to S-OFF, was that the "old" method of dd'ing the eng hboot ? Or did you use the new gfree method ?
I did the old method, using terminal... do I have to do that again? because im still have cyanogen rc3 up.
There's a new method to do it now, using a program called "gfree". See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764 for the details.
But you're saying you can't boot the phone right now ?

The method of rooting hasn't changed (either Visionary or rage). But there's a new way to get S-OFF, which also gets you other things too (like SIM unlock). The new way (gfree) of getting S-OFF is a lot safer than the old method (less chance of bricking if you flash the wrong ROM, and easier to recover from semi-bricks), so I strongly recommend you go that way.
im on redux 1.1.2 and wanted to make the keyboard manager (found here working.
however moving the .apk from /data/app/ to /system/app doesnt work for whatever reason. i tried root explorer and super manager as well.
cutting out the file and trying to past it in the other folder it seems to work, gives no error message but i cant see the file being moved and when i navigate back to /data/app its still sitting there.
of course, root access is enabled, so that cant be the problem here.
does anyone know how such a basic and simple function continously fails? im absolutely by this and need a solution asap.
Do you have write access to /system?
Year nothing is wrong with root explorer. To test try moving a file from /data/app to sdcard.
But in order to write to /system you need your bootloader to be s-off, and it's surprising how many people don't know this and just try using such apps without thinking.
check that you have enabled "remount as R/W"

you are onto something. checked my bootloader and that thing is s-on
i could swear it used to be s-off when i checked last time, but yes that was some time ago.
so now its s-on and i need it to be s-off.
found http://alpharev.nl/ and there a hboot reflash utility but ... well i download on ubuntu and all it gives me is an very useless .iso file. extracting contains no file i actually can run.
the website guide couldnt be any worse, black background and small white font, its not what im looking for on a lazy sunday
so in short: is there an easy + fast way to get a s-on device s-off. easy and fast means no nandroid backup, no normal backup, no factory resets or whatever.

.iso is an image file, so you need to burn it onto a cd/bootable use-stick and then boot from it.

First of all, do a nandroid backup, then you keep your data.
It won't give you a command line, it will automatically start the s-off-program. You basically connect your phone, hit Enter, then wait a few minutes and dont touch anything.
But I really recommend some reading about in this forum about this. You might need to get fastboot running on your computer to flash a new recovery, so make sure you have all needed drivers and the recovery image (of the same recovery you are using now, otherwise you probably can't restore nandroid) handy before you start.

i looked arround a bit but found nothing really usefull. googling for fastboot even brings up wrong results things which have definitely nothing to do with htc desire or s-off.
is fastboot that adb thingy i need to get to work and which is said to not work properly on ubuntu 10.10? then i ditch all that stuff and will forget about it.
the lack of answers seems to suggest that no one is really sure if it will work or not.
seems to be a big risk and not worth wasting any more time.
thanks for your help nevertheless.
Well, search for the S-OFF guide in the Developmenet section.

Hey guys.
Just switched from CM7 to Coredroid 5.4. All looking good so far with the exception of SU access. A few programs such as Root Explorer and ROM manager are successfully granted SU permissions. However, I have not been able to grant any further permissions as I'm now told the phone isn't rooted?
Nothing has been changed or deleted in-between the other apps receiving permissions to others being declined SU access. Additionally, the apps already authorised still work and i'm told they have received SU permission via a pop-up each time they're run.
Can't see anything else on this subject, so I am sorry guys if this has been discussed before.
The phone is HTC DHD on T-Mobile UK. The superuser is latest version and auto-installed through Rom installation. Unclear whether I'm missing something, any tips and pointers are greatly appreciated. I'd prefer avoiding a re-flash if possible, oh and its s-eng on.
Thanks guys.

Ok so I've been looking around and can't seem to find really good answers to my questions. First of all I'm wanting to root a Japanese HTC Evo 4G on version 2.3.4 Hboot 2.15. The only way I can really find how to do this is to go through HTCdev and do a bootloader unlock. Now my problem with that is that it says it will wipe all personal information on the phone during this process, which I don't want to have to go through and re-input everything again. All posts I find on this are pretty old and don't seem to apply atm. So I guess basically I have a couple questions. Can you back up this info so that you don't have to back through and manually re-input it all?? Is it safe and good to do for my phone? I'm fairly familiar with the root process as I had an HTC Evo 4G before that I rooted but ended up losing that phone and had to get a new one, that being said it was my first root ever done. Also if anybody knows of roms that work great with the AU mail service?? I had flashed a couple of roms before and couldn't get that service back on the phone no matter what I tried so stayed rooted with just stock rom. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated and links and such. Thank you
Also I should mention that I don't understand or speak enough japanese to actually feel comfortable following a japanese youtube video on how to do this. I watched 1 and understood most of what he was saying but just not comfortable enough to use it as a guide.
Use the Revolutionary tool to root your phone http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
Hmm nope doesn't work. I keep getting Failed to get Root! Not sure what else to do after I punch in the beta key and hit enter it just sits at Zerging Root for about 30 secs then pops that up. Also it appears that maybe the HTCdriver is not working properly? When I look at the drivers from my computer for the phone it says 2.0.7.6 and when I click on the HTCdriver 3.0.0.007 nothing really happens except for asking for permission to run and then I hit run and that's it.
So here's a question now. I see I can delete the driver for this. Should I, then try to run HTCdriver 3.0.0.007?? Not sure what else to do atm.
Try uninstalling the driver and install them with this http://dl3.htc.com/application/sync/htc_sync_3.0.5617_us.exe
Then try using the revolutionary tool

Make sure your driver's are up to date, that HTC Sync is completely uninstalled from your computer, use a good USB cable & make sure the phone is booted to the OS.

You don't by chance have a PC36IMG file on your SD card, do you? I saw where this was causing some issues for others, particularly when the phone reboots to the bootloader. Delete the file if it's there, rename it or move it off the root of your SD card.
Also, make sure you have USB debugging enabled on your phone, and any antivirus software on your computer turned off. I've used Revolutionary to root & S-off 4 different OG EVO's and I've only had an issue once, and it was due to HTC Sync being installed on my laptop (Revolutionary would open and then immediately close).
