unlocked Note 2 works with AT&T LTE? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

might go back to note again..tried the note 1 but returned it for a GS3 before my 30 days return..i dont normally get first gen devices but i miss the note..
i watched the sammy video and said that it will have 3G/4G LTE support so that means the unlocked version will have 3G/4G LTE or only 3G/4G hsap+ on unlocked..?
how much do unlocked note 2 will sell for?
thanks:good:

Well the one for the UK does not have LTE. The Euro one will have LTE but in the States the LTE will not work (different frequencies for LTE). So before you jump out and buy do your research. Buying a Note2 will be much more confusing this time around.

Will the Note 2 have HSPA 42?
I ask because I plan on using the international version on TMo prepaid once they change their network spectrum.

I am thinking of doing the same thing as you. I live in NY and TMO already starting to change over here.

what data speed will i have if i get the unlocked version on the NOTE 2 running on ATT? hspa+? what are top peek speeds on data on that? if the unlocked NOTE 2 can run on ATT hspa+ network.. 3G is fine on ATT for web/email/msg ect.. but i want to get at least 4G+ speeds for watching videos/downloading bigger files...
thanks..

Does anyone know if I can get my tmobile gs2 to work on AT&T and get there 3G 4G speeds? Thanks
3G yes, 4G or LTE no.
would be please guys define "3G" for att ? up to 6mbps ? more ? or what ?
If an iPhone 4S can get 5mbps in my town and showing 4G on iOS5.1 , what would a T989 with att SIM can get in the same area and moment ?

the t989... I believe has a modem that is 3x faster than the iphone 4s so it should get approximately 10-15mbps.
btw you should come to understand that tmobile 4g is actually just 3g.. well 3.5g
hence the HSPA"+"
the 4g LTE has records of hitting over 60mbps
more reference the max potential for our phone is 42mbps I think, but it is usually half of that. the iphone 4s max potential ~15mbps.
why don't you trade/sell your phone for a skyrocket, it only makes sense to use their 4g lte data and have proper ICS
I was actually thinking about buying a Straighttalk SIM at straighttalksim.com and pick ATT over T-Mobile as it seems ATT gets better coverage in buildings..but was under the impression that I couldn't use my T-Mobile GS2 due to different frequencies?

lol I think many people are thinking the exact same thing , including me
T mobile SUCKS big time and then times ten in my city (and good luck having data at 10 am til 9 pm)... barely getting 1-2 mbps DL with rediculus ping times , my wife iPhone 4S with a ST SIM card att compatible is hitting 5mbps ease everywhere everytime in the day ... Might get a good deal on a used T mobile GS2 and put a new ST SIM att in it ...
And yes the iPhone 4S (which sucks also in every department IMO) has a HSDPA capabillity of 14.4mbps max DL ... But I woulnder if a better "modem" can get better speeds if the original network sucks from the start ...

[Q] 4G speed with att GSM?

Yeah I am trying to figure out if I get an ATT gsm version would I get 4g speeds or would I be stuck with edge? I'm debating if I should do A trade or just go buy a nexus from google play.
You will probably get 3-5 mb/s in non congested area or non peak time. Some areas peak higher. But I wouldn't expect higher than 3 mb/s anytime. And in my area that is stretching it from 8a to 3p.
teach a man to fish, you feed him for life. teach a man to fastboot, and you create competency. and less threads on xda.
I currently have an unlocked GSM version on ATT and I have seen some downloads as high as 8-9mbps down. I average around 3-5.

An ATT specific version does not exist. The GSM Nexus sold in the google play store supports HSPA+ with both ATT and T-Mobile networks.

Oh ok, the guy in the thread said it was an AT&T variant thats why I asked, usually ATT phones only get edge or whatever.
Yeah most phones are that way. The galaxy nexus had a penta-band radio so it supports both.

Huh? not sure what you mean by that... If you have an "AT&T" branded phone and put it on T-Mobile it'll get EDGE only. And vice-versa. There are plenty of unlocked phones that will get HSPA+ on AT&T though, they just have to support the right frequencies (most do).
The GNex supports EDGE/UMTS/HSPA+ on AT&T. You'll get full speeds that any other HSPA+ device will get on their network. You will not get LTE.
You'll also get full HSPA+ support on T-mobile.
it all depends where you live..
Yes you will get 4G ATT speeds on your galaxy nexus... But you wont get LTE Speeds since it don't have a LTE Radio
i can get 5-8Mbps down on a good day..
but i avg about 2.5-4mbps

T-Mobile Note II or AT&T Note II?

So is the T-Mobile Note II better than the AT&T one? I know it has a better 3G radio with quad band 3G that does 42mbps rather than the AT&T one that only does 21mbps and is only tri-band. How feasible do you guys think it would be to buy a launch day Note II on contract, immediately sell it on eBay and buy a T-Mobile Note II for the same price?
Plausible if you expect to get $650+tax for the AT&T note.
Is T-Mobile's coverage that bad in your area? If T-Mobile has good coverage in your area then why not just go for T-Mobile? It would make sense to go for Verizon LTE services for the large coverage and high speeds even with the Verizon premium price. But for me it makes no sense in going to AT&T if you have good coverage with T-Mobile. Both the price and speed differences between T-Mobile vs AT&T itself would turn me to T-Mobile and away from AT&T. The only thing that AT&T beats T-mobile is having a larger coverage area. But otherwise there is no reason to go for AT&T.
I just think you are trying to go the long way around. Which is not making sense.

I'm on contract with AT&T for another year so I'd have pay cancellation fees and what not.
And the T-Mobile service isn't very good in my area at all.. atleast it wasn't a year and a half ago.
Not to hog the thread, but, would a T-mobile Note 2 (once unlocked obviously), work on atleast HSPA speeds on AT&T - im not really too bothered about LTE, though obviously don't want the tmobile phone restricted to EDGE on at&t like iphones 4s are on tmobile _ this situation is the reverse of that scenario.
?
I have an option to buy a T-Mobile one for relatively cheap off a colleague, but want to use it on AT&T as thats the contract I have and T-mob don't have great reception in my house!!.
I know the 4G LTE in the T-Mobile Note II is currently disabled but... once enabled would it work on AT&Ts 4G LTE?

If you don't care about LTE, then get the T-Mobile one as that has 42mbps HSPA as opposed to 21mbps of all other Note II versions and it's also pentaband too so it'll work pretty much anywhere around the world

Yes, the T-Mobile phone has AT&T's LTE bands too, although when it will get enabled is still a question

I'm considering the Note2 on all carriers even the international model if Multi-View doesn't come soon but last weekend tested the Note2 in a T-Mobile store & was impressed by the SpeedTest of 20 ( +/- 2) Mbps down & ~ 2 Mbps up (store is in a well covered area) & Friday night I was with someone where I'd more frequently use the Note2 & tested the network down on her original Galaxy S still pulling down ~10 Mbps down (+/- 5 with avg ~ 8 Mbps down-streaming quality video was great which I can't currently do with my Sprint EVO except off their network here on Wi-Fi) & still ~ 2 Mbps up.
So far I like T-Mobile speeds & plans (reasonably priced unlimited option should I need it though I usually but not always have access to fast Wi-Fi) yet I'm concerned they don't have the same coverage as AT&T (I'll also speedtest AT&T locally this week) so was considering getting the Note2 on AT&T & if not satisfied ($300 + $325 ETF) go get service on T-Mobile with option to go back to AT&T should I move. What limitations besides the 21 Mbps HSPA+ would I have if I get the AT&T model which would also offer me LTE ~ 20 miles away?

Here's my experience with T-Mo on a car trip from the NW to Midwest. The data was non-existent except on cities & towns, I'd say over 10,000. Where a data signal was available it was typically very good. I didn't speed test my note 2, but likely =/- 10Mbps. In the NW (Seattle area) I find some rural areas with poor data signal. My daughters house is on the edge of a town with pop of about 5,000. I have to go outside to get a descent data signal while she gets good signal inside with AT&T.
Personally I'm very happy with my T-MO service. I've been with then for 10 years, but only about 2 that I've been concerned with data, whereas previously I used primarily wifi and now using predominately data.
Hope with gives you at least one useful perspective.

I will test to confirm but I think T-Mobile service will be faster on HSPA+ (LTE is 20 miles away & don't expect to get it here soon except for Verizon) & less expensive but I'm starting to suspect the potential for range anxiety (that people with electric cars often feel) when traveling out of metro areas hence consideration of AT&T model (which offers superior coverage as well as LTE in some markets now) to use on T-Mobile if possible?

I'm going to look into this further (the T-Mobile pamphlet they gave me last weekend still listed "America's Largest 4G Network) but I'm going to try to check it out again in a T-Mobile store now:
http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/t-mobile-drops-americas-largest-4g-network-claim/2012-07-18

"T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 is the 4G dark horse. It's really fast, covers a lot of the country, and is inexpensive. We found it to be faster than Verizon LTE for downloads in 11 cities (T-Mobile didn't win, though, because Verizon had much faster upload speeds.) Outside cities, where T-Mobile has coverage, it blew away other 3G networks. But that's the key: T-Mobile's truly rural coverage is slimmer than AT&T's or Verizon's."

Verizon Gnote2 on Tmobile?

I have a verizon Gnote 2 that i want to connect on Tmobile but obviously i have a couple question that concern me...
Ive researched as much as i could but still trying to get a clearer answer.
First: To connect verizon Gnote2 on tmobile you just have to put in the tmobile sim card and you get voice calls, sms, but no mms you had to unlock or root it first so you could change the apn's ..
but now with the newest update you dont have to do all that Verizon has made it fully unlocked.. so it easier to change the apns settings (which i still need to find what they are)
I see that the V Gnote 2 supports the 1900 and 2100mhz freq.. but not the 1700 and to be able to have complete LTE or HSPA 42+ connection the phone has to support both 1700 and 2100.. Tmobile is revamping the 1900 to become 4g connection but is not available in all areas so thats a hit or miss.. Heres a map showing an idea of were the 1900 mhz freq is supposively running
So my question on this in the areas where there isnt 1900 mhz band (Which 4g) then when on the other freq then i would be on 3g or 2g(edge) and if on Edge what are Tmobile edge speeds? 1mbps download atleast? or worse
Also Since i would have a GSM sim card in it and on GSM networks you could Talk and Surf the web at the same time then technically i should also be able to as well correct?
Ive read that i believe its on Jelly or Jedi rom it enabels HSPA+ is this true? also im good if i just get H support which is 3g
many more questions but post is getting too long and I know that just going out and getting a T mobile sim will help me get all my answers just dont want to go out and waste money for no reason....

I had a Verizon GN2 that I tried on T-Mo (before trading with someone for an actual t-mo N2) and it was mostly Edge. Edge speeds are total garbage on a phone such as this. It takes 5 minutes just to load facebook.I loved the plan ($30 mo on t-mo) and wanted to keep it so I traded.

No LTE on ATT

Hi, i have a question, I'm on ATT and i can see my phone alway on 4g but not LTE. I'm a little confused on 4G LTE, which one doesn't it suppose to display? Both are two different thing in term of speed? Thank for respond.
If it says 4G you're on HSPA/HSPA+. If it says 4GLTE you're on LTE. LTE has much higher download and upload speeds than HSPA.
4G as at&t likes to call it is. HSPA/HSPA+ =5 to 10 MEGS download
1 to 3 MEGS upload...
4G/LTE =25MEGS DOWNLOAD & 10 MEGS UPLOAD...
When the f*ck did we get ice cream??
Oh.. okay, i'm sure I have LTE capability, so do i go talk to them or get sim card switch out for LTE? Thanks for input guys.
It could be possible your market doesn have lte. At&t has a very small 4g lte coverage compared to the rest but i think sprint is still the smallest. When at&t says they the best 4g coverage their not reffering to their lte coverage. I believe lte is in mostly major cities like Chicago St. Louis NY LA you catch my drift.. if you live in smaller less popular areas your less likely to have LTE.

If you are in Houston you should be on LTE. So just give AT&T a call and tell them to put you on an LTE plan..also if you are on a unlimited data plan.the LTE unlimited data plan does not get throttled until 5 gigs. Instead of three..

Yes, i'm on ATT Phone.
AT&T's LTE in the Boston area is between 5-10 mb down & 1-3mb up. My T-Mobile HSPA+ is pushing out over 15 mb down & 3mb up during the day, T-Mobile LTE is over 30mb down & 8 mb up. Real unlimited data with tethering. Just can't beat that.

Why att wanted to buy T-Mobile. But the FCC said no and so att still had give T-Mobile a whole butt load of money.
That's good that AT&T they can't buy T-Mobile, competition will lower prices. T-Mobile in Houston blows.. Bad signal, low speed, ect.. but they are cheap. Well.. not that cheaper than AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. These days most people use pay as you go or them simple mobile/boost mobile thing. even though those are base off T-mobile which equal same bad quality in Houston.
