I just switched over from Evo LTE to GS3 today.
Is there really no visual voicemail for this phone, or even a voicemail notification alert?? I have to dial my phone number to see if I have any voicemails.
What kinda whack sh*t is this?
Or... is it just my phone is a POS?
FYI: if you wanna be a section Nazi, I did search the Q&A, and saw this poor guy got no replies, so I posted here instead.

I have VVM..you may be alone in this one. Any Sprint stock ROM has VVM and pretty much most of the TouchWiz based roms also have it. AOSP and AOKP roms don't include it tho..

my s3 has the native sprint vvm app. it's like $2 more a month.. totally not worth it considering half the text it displays is wrong.. has anyone managed to unlock the app? that annoying "free" trial is a bit annoying each time the app is opened.

But no worries, I already went ahead and rooted my phone and flashed a Stock rooted rom on.
Thanks for trying anyway.

Could be a network issue. Other wise, make sure you installed the rom fresh from a full wipe.
Yes I've had issues with not being able to send/receive tests. In fact, based on the behavior of the message handling, it seemed like my messages had somehow switched so that they were being sent over the data network. For me this issue was caused by Google Voice.
So, OP, I've got a few questions for you.
1. Are you using Google Voice?
2. If yes, is your Sprint number integrated with Google Voice?
3. What ROM & kernel are you using?
4. What baseband radio version are you using?
5. What hboot version are you using?

No worries man. I used to work 12-14 hours per day at a marketing firm. It gets real old real fast.
Did your messaging issues start after you flashed the ROM? Or did it work fine for a while and then seem to randomly stop working? Since you are using a sense ROM you might want to try the ## codes to reset and verify your network settings. I'm not sure what they are. You may have to look them up on Google or call tech support and ask them.
Ok imma try that first and if that don't do imma hit yall back .......well ill hit yall back ither way...

Try flashing a different ROM and see if the messaging works. I've heard of Infected before but not for the Evo. So I don't know much about it.

Hello,
I have an Epic 4G and am rooted using midNIGHT ROM 5.3 (Froyo). I have been using Fusion VM for awhile with no issues but now I am no longer getting notifications of VM so I'm ready to ditch it.
Want to mention first that I absolutely hated youmail & google whateverthehelltheycallit.
So what I am looking for is the *stock* voicemail apk that will work with Froyo. I have a VVM apk that apparently is not compatible with Froyo and as a result every time I open it I am "told" it is trying to verify my account but it never does. Then I get a message telling me that VVM won't work & will keep trying to verify my account and that regular VM service will continue while they do that...yet I still don't get any notification of messages.
I am in sales and I absolutely, positively NEED my voicemail to work & to notify me when I have messages.
So does anyone have a VM apk that will work? If so would you please share it with me?
A thousand thank yous in advance!
No one? :-(

I did search. Notice I thanked that person for posting? That's the version I have that does not seem to work with Froyo. I am looking for the stock VM apk & not the latest one, like in that thread, because it's not working for me.
Thank you though.

Can you point me to a stable one? I rely on my phone too much to take too many risks.
Also, would the latest version of VVM work then?
Thanks!

Will flashing custom roms remove my carrier settings?
I'm just curious how "am I safe" related to your question haha. But flashing a custom rom made for sprint phones and service is very risky and not a good idea.

Yes, those ROMs are known to destroy lives, kill cats, start fire storms, and all that.
In short, stay away if you want to stay alive

neither of the above users are correct.
It doesn't matter what carrier it is made for, you can use it with MetroPCS. you might want to remove the Sprint specific apks from /system/app, but other than that, it will continue to work with MetroPCS.
I am running Jelly Bomb 7.0 and my wife is running Freeza's LJ7 leak. we both have 3g speeds, internet, mms in/out, voicemail notifications, etc.
If you are missing any of the above, check out my guide on how to get it done on the S3.

Thanks for the informative reply. What about the Sprint JellyBean update?
Sent from my SprintroPCS Samsung GS3.
You said custom roms. If you get the Sprint OTA you will lose root.
Understand that the settings that make your phone connect to MetroPCS,
Send and receive text messages and get 3g access can not be affected or overwritten by flashing any kind of rom or by receiving an ota.
However, mms requires modification to the APN, which requires root access.

BUUUUT I can root Jellybean once I get it.
The reason I asked is because I had an Evo 3D before this, and for some reason, when I would flash an AOSP ROM, my phone would lose its carrier settings and go back to Sprint. I think the phone had a modified or repaired ESN.
I can not believe how mean you guys are. Would you feel good if your Cat got killed just because of a careless ROM flash?

I really am lost here.
Nevermind I took a shot at it and I am happily on CM10 right now. Also, I did the update through ODIN and that worked.
Also on a side note to the rest of you, Don't give me smart ass replies to a simple question. I don't need that. Thanks.
OK, so I have a rooted S3 running the FrostyJB ROM. When I try using the USSD code to check my data usage (#932#), I get a message that my account is not set up for that feature. Also, both the TMO My Account app and the mytmobile website do not show my data usage, although they do show usage for minutes and text messages.
I ran into a TMO store, and they couldn't figure it out but said it may be due to root. Thoughts? I would like to be able to check my data usage, and every time I flash a ROM, it resets the data usage stats on the phone. Very annoying.
Thats weird, both the tmobile apps show my data. I am also rooted amd running frostyjb as well. Whoever told you it was cuz you were rooted is an idiot or just a liar. Even when I was on the 2gb plan it would show
Sent from Flip's S3
I have the same issue. Haven't had time to really dig into it though.
It may be because we are running JB. Or it could be the MyAccount app. If you look at the comments for it on the market, the latest versions are pure junk and cause nothing but problems.
Ill try to remember to look into it some more later.

JellyBeans 14 with Saberkernel 21.
I've tried multiple kernels (Saber/Perseus/Stock) same issue.
This is downright maddening and I recall this even with the Stock ROM but then I assumed my wife accidently copied sent it to herself and me also..... But in fact she did not. She only sent it to me and on receipt it arrives as a mms with a reply list of "Her, Me" ...

Huh - strange that it's happening w/ the stock rom. I am reasonably sure that he put in some of the group messaging stuff that folks have been working on, and I have heard that what you are describing can happen as a result, but that does not explain the behavior if you saw this on stock. In your stock messaging app - have you checked out the settings? I remember when I was messing around w/ group messaging on the stock TW mms there was a setting related to group messaging - might be worth a peek.

I would recommend trying a tmo ROM since you're in tmo now. As a matter of fact tweaked with the AOSP theme is nice with even more customization then beans. I seem to remember that Verizon messaging app handles mms differently, but could be wrong. Also, you may get wifi calling if you go the route I suggested.

Totally agree . LOL I kept the sch-i605 after I switch from vzw to tmo but now am just becoming bothered by the issues with flashing, specific modems etc.
Looked into merging framework2 and wificalling.apk and just gave myself a headache after decompiling and trying to UML the flows.... Rather just buy the TMO variant now with native AWS/LTE / wifi calling and either keep the sch-i605 as a backup or toss it on swappa or ebay.
I figure a bunch of ppl may like a debadged vzw Note II with a new back cover, aluminum home button, flip case and Otterbox Defender especially one that will run on nearly ever network from vzw ->tmo -> att at HSPA+ speeds LOL
